- A semi-silly and mostly serious look at three of the most difficult colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. If you played any one of these on hard Time Trial, you should know what I'm talking about.

When you have to shoot Malus on the shoulder with the arrow, you have to stab the right hand with your sword to make the aiming easier so that Malus doesn't move the hand so that it doesn't make it more difficult on you. The game doesn't tell you this though.

Fungo Ah, my bad! You did! My bad for not noticing as it can easily be dismissed, it was just one of my gripes with Malus and something I didn't know even in the PS2 days so I felt the need to mention it.
Thanks tho, i'm gonna do that while i'm stuck on Malus.
I haven't played again in years, but I remember the two small cat like ones were the hardest for me. For whatever reason I had a difficult time getting them to stay still and get on top of them. Apparently most found those pretty easy, but they drove me up the wall. I will say my favorite one was the flying dragon thing that you had to jump onto like an old western train heist. That was wicked.
Phalanx, Cenobia and Celosia
I don't know about hardest but my favorite has always been Phalanx. Running around and holding on to it's back as it soars through the sky is both visually breathtaking and a heart-pounding thrill ride of an experience. It's also accompanied by one of the most epic soundtracks in the game. I like Avion for similar reasons but I think the location of Phalix is what does it for me. Although, the first time you mount Avion is a totally badass moment.
Phalanx always made me feel terribly guilty.
Both those Colossi are my favorites! Too bad I didn't get to talk about them.
Phalanx is the worst. Shooting the airsacks is a bitch and so is jumping off Agro to jump on it

Hilariously enough, I didn't really struggle with any of the Colossi in the remake except for Malus. And for the stupidest reason lol. When getting onto his shoulder and stabbing his vital point to long jump onto his other hand when he brings it close...Wander just flatout would REFUSE to do the long jump to his 2nd hand.
It just wouldn't work.
This resulted in not only me falling down back to the tower climb section MULTIPLE times, but being stuck on the part where you have to jump to his 2nd hand from his shoulder vital...for much longer than I care to admit lol.
It was kind of infuriating.
I eventually got it to work. But until it did, the whole 2nd half of the fight (the climbing section) felt like a legit exercise in tedium and masochism. All because Wander wouldn't do the damn long jump to his 2nd hand lol. Which in any other scenario, would have been simplistic. But nope...no this time, for...whatever reason lol. Once I finally got it, I had never been happier in my life to stab something to death lol.
I always hated the tortoise one. Ugh...
You can swim around Pelagia! Try going through it's left armpit instead of around it's arms.
I've always swam underwater and under pelagia's arm to get to his back works everytime for me

My friend once did enough damage to Avion that his tail & right wing sigils were gone, but it was in a fury because I think the game expects you to do left & right wing before tail and as such he made the fight seemingly unbeatable. He never finished the game and I never could recreate the conditions even on hard mode, no clue how he did that.
3, Gaius and 15, Argus on Hard Time Attack. They are your boys
Dirge might be the hardest cause of the weird machanics that are necessary, and basaran is just hard

Tip for Malus: Trying to stab his head is really hard after he starts shaking it. To save time (and stamina) stab his head and then go and stab the weak spot on his shoulder. This will get him to stop his head shaking animation and he'll put his hand to his shoulder for a bit. Whilst he does this you have plenty of time to go back and stab his head. Do this a few times and he'll be down in no time. Really useful on Time Attack mode! My least favourite Colossi are Phaedra (the horse) because there's a lot of luck involved in getting her to do the right moves, Celosia (the one scared of fire) because she moves around so much when you're trying to hit her, and Basaran because his lazer blasts really drain your health on hard mode.
Good strategy! Thanks for sharing! Yeah, with Phaedra, I usually bait it to the tunnel, arrive on the opposite side, then hide until it starts searching the tunnel. Then I grab on.
Haha. Third Clossi, the knight, impossible to beat on hard time attack on ps3 it was completely bullshit. Might just have been bc I was young(maybe they changed the times), but it was easier on the ps4. I do agree about Argus, but I dont think he's hard its just making him do specific movements is frustrating.

For me, the most difficult was Basaran. Completing the hard time trial actually gave me nightmares.
But I did it. I really beat the bastard! Some nights, I can still hear the geysers . . .
Really nailed it with this list. I think Argus is the most frustrating but only because I've been lucky enough to not have Pelagia get caught up on terrain. Would like to see a list of what you think are the most fun colossi to fight.
Dirge... Ahh that worm thing is an a*****e, having to fire arrows off of a horse backwards into a giant monsters eyes is somehow even harder than it sounds

Hilariously funny! Also, I think Argus is the hardest for me on hard mode. In fact, when me and my mommy first attacked Argus, we battled him 200 times before we figured out how to defeat him. That wasn't even on hard mode! I like the video. It's quite funny as well. (PELAGIA:) "Huh? You talking to meeee?"

1. Celosia (hard and definitely not fair- the first phase is easy but getting a Stab off and stamina conservation is very hard)

Honestly I feel like it's your style that makes this game difficult. You didn't need to keep going on Mallus' shoulder you could've just stood on his head, swimming to Phallus back is pretty easy once you realise distance covered is reduced if you swim towards him instead of around him etc.
Still eagerly awaiting those evil within 2 videos :)

Yeah, I'd agree with you. But my favorite ones as well are, 2, 13 and 16, just because they are super fun even though Malus can really suck. It's just to cool to hate.

I definitely agree that Malus was the Hardest Colossus that you have to fight in game in my opinion, especially if it's your first time.

No! The game still looks amazing on the standard PS4. I still get blown away by how well the game runs.

Honestly, Gaius is hardest for me, both original and remastered. On normal, I hardly have time to stab his head because he always shakes his head. On hard, I always lose stamina when I'm trying to get his arm on top of the fact that his head still shakes. Donmt get me wrong, he's one of the coolest looking colossi, but the hardest colossusto me.
Man, I wish I hadn't spoiled myself the experience before they announced the remake, I never thought I could play it...
at least I played The Last Guardian, I really love that game
Pelagia and Argus are more annoying than hard, and Malus is actually pretty easy, but it's goddamn amazing.
Personally speaking, Gaius was a real piece of work for me; at least for the time trials. The addition of a third vital in hard mode really screwed me up, and it seemed like he would never stop shaking his damn head! Otherwise, I'd probably agree with Argus. He can just be frustrating in how long he takes to perform his actions.
By "Down south" do you mean its belly?
Actually, I watched a friend fight Pelagia in the remake, and he was able to get on Pelagia's back very easily by just swimming around him without having to hide from him at all, as a result of the faster swimming speed in the remake. Really kinda disappointing, and makes the fight way too easy imo.

I cant remember the name but the lion-bull thing really pisses me off. I hate how it hits you and staggers you and continues to do so constantly

That Vital only appears on Hard Difficulty.

I agree with Argus being the hardest colossus but the other two aren't so bad. My second hardest colossus would be the one who falls on his back when geysers shoot in his stomach, that one took me forever to beat and the third hardest is a small colossus resembling a bull who's afraid of fire, he's tough and fast. In a future video you could talk about your three favorite colossi. My favorite is Avion hands down, I can't wait to play this remake just to see how awesome and epic that fight is with updated graphics, and by the way in this video I can see that Wander looks like a zombie by the end of the game XD
