The hallway in the hospital is dark because that’s how it was back then. They had strict visiting hours and insisted on patients getting rest. Now, they leave the lights on and bother you every hour despite more sophisticated monitoring equipment.
I think it varies, though. Around 2015 or so I went to a hospital at around 11:30 PM and it did seem more dimly lit than normal plus there definitely wasn't that much staff present.
21:23 - That is the nurse who was in the car with Dr. Loomis in the first movie when they were driving up to the Mental Hospital and all of the patients were wandering around on the grounds at night in the rain.
She is now referred to as "The Smoking Nurse". He also didn't knew her. She was just a nurse the state assigned to go with him to transfer Michael the night before.
I always thought she was just some lady that worked at the hospital all these years. It wasn't til a few years back I realized it's the same nurse from the first one. I'll need to take a closer gander at her face, cause it's never looked the same to me for some reason.
6:43 - Around this time when this movie came out, there was a real Halloween scare of people slipping pins and razors into apples, knowing that children were going to be bobbing for apples at Halloween parties. This was the director's lil' nod to that very real scare; likely to add to the terror of movie goers.
The scare was real, even if the incidents were myth, and it was definitely propagated in the news, and contributed to the Halloween safety guidelines that persist today about checking the wrapper on a piece of candy before eating it to make sure it's still fully sealed.
That kid with the razor in his gums stems from an old urban legend about someone who use to put razors in apples doing Halloween. Several movies depicted this.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence reuniting at the end always fills me with joy, as does the explosive final scene that feels so beautifully definitive.
I love how you guys are all in on anything you watch, from lofty cinema to popcorn flicks and just fully give yourselves over to the experience without any prejudice going in :)
Good reaction to this video!! Do remember watching this movie in the theater when it first came out and the audience was literally screaming at the characters for the lack of judgement they used. Also, in the scene where the young boy in the pirate costume was bleeding in the hospital parking lot at around the 6:38 mark, you can actually see a RAZORBLADE in his mouth. Back in the 1970s when I was growing up there was an "urban legend" on the loose about checking candy and any fruit for possible tampering with. The most prolific warning was to check APPLES and/or PEARS for any fresh cuts for possible RAZORBLADES being put inside them. Do remember after Trick-or-Treating was over, we would gather our candy together and mom would inspect it. Any damaged candy wrappers were thrown away and any fruit oozing juices were thrown away regardless of how it happened. Also, local TV and Radio stations would remind parents to check candy/fruit before allowing kids to eat the stuff. Think this urban legend began around the 1973 timeframe, maybe earlier or later but it was the 1970s!!! The legend lasted a few years and eventually faded away as far as I am aware. I always thought that that kid in the movie got his teeth knocked out somehow until one year watching this movie, I noticed the RAZORBLADE glistening in the light and thought how awesome it was that John Carpenter included that bit of "legend" in the movie.
John Carpenter originally didn't want to do a sequel to Halloween because he felt that there was no story left to tell. He came up with the idea of an anthology film series set on Halloween with a different story each time, which is why Halloween III: Season of the Witch had no connection to the first film. But the studio wanted a sequel, and Carpenter and his partner, Debra Hill, agreed to work on the sequel since they didn't see much money from the box office returns for the first film. Carpenter's original idea was for Michael Myers to return years later and stalk a 20-something Laurie Strode in an apartment complex, but the studio insisted on a sequel that picked up right where the original left off, so Carpenter and Hill wrote Halloween II as a direct sequel, although Carpenter admitted that he didn't have many ideas and he wrote the script while drinking six packs of beer for inspiration. Rick Rosenthal was hired to direct the sequel as Carpenter was busy working on Escape from New York at the time and had no interest in directing the sequel.
And then Carpenter wasn't happy with Rosenthal's cut, and he personally shot a series of gore inserts to make the killings more "scary". Rosenthal apparently made a more restrained film that Carpenter was looking for...
During a rough cut of the film the producers and Universal studios felt the film was very tame compared to other slashers being made at the time (Carpenter himself said in an interview "the rough cut of Halloween II was as scary as the medical TV show 'Quincy'), so they called John Carpenter back in to direct a series of reshoots to add in more suspense and gore (unbeknownst to director Rick Rosenthal)...so technically, John Carpenter did actually direct some (about 15%) of Halloween II At the same exact time, TV network executives told John Carpenter that they were going have to re-edit and cut out/delete some footage from the original Halloween for television broadcasting (mainly the gore and nudity scenes) however that would make the film's running time shorter than most broadcast running times for films on TV (and it would make it a very difficult sell for syndication as well), so John Carpenter took the film crew from Halloween II (that he was already using for the reshoots) as well as had Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance back (along with calling back P. J. Soles & Nancy Loomis as Linda & Annie) to shoot new additional scenes (to be inserted) for the Halloween television broadcast, to better connect Halloween 1 & 2 as well as pad out the film's running time for the network broadcasters.
See, not DOING another Michael Myers storyline, and saying that story is over wouldn't really make sense... not with that ending to the first Halloween film. I mean, he's shot several times and he falls to the ground from a second story window, Loomis turns his back for mere seconds, but when he turns back Michael's vanished. He just got up, and walked away faster than the Flash runs. Of course there should be at least ONE MORE movie based on Michael's story.
Donald Pleasance, in every Halloween movie, acts like his rent is due. He's at a 10 and then breaks the gauge through Halloween 4, 5 and 6. Dick Warlock (greatest name ever) took over the reigns for Myers. He was Kurt Russell's stunt double for close to 30 years. Carpenter wrote the movie in 3 days and drunk. God bless that man. RIP to Ben Tramer, the great American love story that never came to fruition.
I prefer Nick Castle's take on Myers. Warlock moves too robotic and stiff. The only time Castle's Michael moved like that was when he sat up in the Doyle house, then turned his head to face Laurie.
Fun review, as always. The woman who arrived with the State Trooper was Nurse Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens) -- who'll you recall was the same nurse who drove Dr. Loomis to the asylum at the outset of the first HALLOWEEN (1978). Remember, PART II (1981) chronologically takes place a mere 24 hours after Michael steals their car and escapes. Thank you for presenting PART II in its correct Panavision widescreen aspect ratio. You should also screen HALLOWEEN III, a different take on the holiday mythos by Carpenter and Co.
The teen who they thought was Michael Myers that got hit by the police car was the same person who Laurie's friend tried to set her up with in the first Halloween, Ben Tramer.
Samantha, you are a scream queen. 😆 Another fun reaction guys! Check out Lance Guest (Jimmy) in The Last Starfighter, I think you'll both enjoy the 80s sci-fi adventure.
That lady who told the cops , ITS MICHAEL MYERS JUST GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!! That was Dr. Marion Chambers (played by Nancy Stephens) she was in the first 1978 "Halloween" movie. She's the one who drove in the car that rainy night with Dr. Loomis over to see Michael Myers but he jumped on top of their car, broke the window, then stole their car and escaped. Coincidentally Dr. Chambers was also brought back in "Halloween H20" and also in "Halloween Kills".
36:02, an alternative ending was filmed but cut from the movie, yet it can be found on the Blu Ray Collector's Edition, Spoilers :where Laurie is placed in the ambulance, until she notices the blanket move, revealing that its Jimmy, having survived his head injury, and hs asks what's wrong, Laurie fights back tears in her eyes and says, "We made it." Laurie and Jimmy hold hands as the ambulance drives off, as Laurie stares blankly out the window, seeing an image of Michael burning.
Growing up on Halloween, we were always taught to check our candies for any possible needle holes in case they were poisoned. The kid in this movie must have eaten an apple with a razor blade in it, another fear at the time. We would always sit together after getting our candy haul and check every candy before we started eating them.
@@BigBoss-zi5ss the interesting thing is that there is no record of candy tampering happening until after people started talking about the risk of it. The urban legend inspired people to actually do it.
Carpenter said he wrote this while drinking beer. "We are making the same movie, just not as good", so his heart wasn't in this as much, I think. The first one is superior.
16:40 - You guys may not remember, but "Bennet Traymore" was the guy that Annie said she spoke to on Laurie's behalf (to hook her up with him) in the first movie, and Laurie was embarrassed and mortified, ("Oh Annie, tell me you didn't!"). You know, the scene when they were on the phone when Annie was popping popcorn, and the dog family dog was barking (she thought at her, but it was actually because Michael Meyers was right out the window watching her)?
The woman no one ever seems to recognize who came from Smith's Grove (Mental Institution) with the Marshal, drove the official station wagon in the first movie that Michael climbed on the roof and broke the window with his hand. She wore a nurse's cap in the first movie. She (as does the two young kids) will return in a future Halloween movie so definitely keep your eyes and ears out to hear familiar names if you continue the Michael Meyers franchise.
The kid who was with his mom at the ER, is the same actor who played the radio hosts son in The Fog. The woman who shows up to get Loomis is the nurse that was with him in the first Halloween. She would return in H20 and Halloween Kills.
During the production of Halloween 2, the first movie was set to make its debut on network tv. But so much had to be cut out that it didn't run long enough for a 2 hour TV broadcast. So since the cast was already filming 2, John Carpenter wrote and filmed additional scenes for the first movie in order to fill the network tv run time. Scenes included Dr. Loomis talking to the chief doctors that young Michael should be moved to a maximum security facility, then walking into Michael's room where he's staring out the window and says "You've fooled them Michael. But not me." Another scene for after Michael has escaped and Loomis goes into Michael's room where he's carved "sister" on the back of the door. Also a scene with Laurie and her friend Linda where Laurie says she thinks someone was following her, and Linda laughs it off and asks to borrow Laurie's new sweater for her date that night.
It always bugs me that the scene with Laurie & Linda (& Annie on the phone) is never shown anymore. I feel like it really expanded what we know about the girls & their friendships. Even though it was a later-filmed "filler", it's still a nice scene.
In the scene where Karen is getting scalded to death in the therapy tub by Michael, actress Pamela Susan Shoop said that the water was actually freezing cold and dirty. There were water jets in the tub to make the water appear like it was boiling, but Shoop said that she and actor Leo Rossi (Budd) were actually so cold their teeth were chattering, and she developed an ear infection.
I love the classic VHS Skeleton-Pumpkinhead for this movie. I remember seeing it on the shelf in the video store as a kid. It was freakin me out so much, but still got me very intrigued to watch it. Great movie. Definately one of the best in the series.
There is a story to that that I can not say publicly but I spoke both with Alan Howarth on the phone in 1992 and Dan Wyman in person in the summer of 2000 at San Jose State. Also there is a reason it is always "john Carpenter in association with (someone else)". All I can say is after The Fog Wyman refused to work with Carpenter again.
This movie always reminds me to watch out when eating apples...back in the day (and hopefully not anymore) psychos used to stick razor blades in apples and then give them out to kids on Halloween...that poor kid at the start of the movie at the hospital fell victim to this...Always check your treats before eating anything!
"Recent studies have shown 'being scared' may actually benefit your health. While you exercise, your heart beats faster to pump more blood (which contains important oxygen, fluids and nutrients) to the working muscles. The effects are astonishingly similar when you're frightened." You guys are definitely getting your workout in this month 😂
The reason why John Carpenter didn't want to direct the film is because he wanted the first Halloween to be left on a cliffhanger. He was told that he would be paid a larger amount of money if he wrote the script and got a producing credit along with Debra Hill. Carpenter wrote the script while he was drunk, and couldn't remember what he wrote, so Hill had to do some rewrites.
The reason the hospital looks so gloomy and dark is that Michael cut the power. At least it's implied in the deleted scene. In the scene, Laurie is going crazy and the staff is trying to calm her down. Suddenly, the power goes, and the backup generators kick in.
That is true but my Mom was a graveyard Emergency Room Nurse in 1981 but had also been in nursing school in 1978 and said it was hospital policy to turn the lights down in the hallways after 10 or 11 PM I think (was when visiting hours ended which they were strict on back then) . It was strict policy and only the larger hospitals in larger cities like New York kept their lights on all night as they were busy 24 hours. Haddonfield is a very small city and so it's hospital would have done the same thing.. So you could cut that out, as they did, and still explain why it was so dark.
Lance Guest, who plays EMS driver Jimmy, was later cast in The Last Starfighter by director Nick Castle, who played Michael Myers in the original Halloween. Castle cast Guest after seeing him in Halloween II and felt that he possessed all of the qualities that Castle wanted for the character of Alex Rogan.
I worked at a hospital in the late 80's, sometimes on the night shift. The hallways were, indeed, long & pretty dark. No visitors...just a skeleton crew at each nurses' station...only small, dim lights spaced out along the corridors so patients could (hopefully) sleep..very quiet. It was pretty nice & peaceful up on the floors. The ER, however, was usually a different story.
Future Saturday Night Live comedian and film actor Dana Carvey has a small role in Halloween II as Barry McNichol, a news reporter who is seen being told to get statements from children regardless of whether or not he has the parents permission.
26:11 - To this day, I still wander about Mrs. Alves' death... I strongly lean toward her death being a possible suicide that happened to be in the midst of Michael's murder spree. I mean, the way she died was just not typical Michael Meyers motif. It almost looks like she put the I.V. in her own arm and drained out her own blood. Of course, if she did commit suicide, we have no idea why. And remember, she was gone for a long while. I'm not saying I'm right about that (only the writers and director would know), but that's just my take on Mrs. Alves out of the ordinary 'Halloween death'.
Wow - it's been So long since I saw this I didn't realize who that EMT is that slips on the blood. He stars in a movie called The Last Starfighter - and you should put that on your watchlist. A fun movie in its own right. Fun as usual!
JLC would return first for H2O, the 20th anniversary movie which picks up years after Halloween 2, making it a sort of trilogy around Laurie. But don't skip Halloween 3. It has nothing to do with Mikey, but it's a lot of weird spooky season fun.
28:08 "at least we know Michael Myers never runs." -sam true, but he sometimes teleports. there's a theory that Michael Myers is actually Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler.
Halloween storylines: Timeline 1: H1, H2- Timeline 2: H1, H2, H4, H5, H6- Timeline 3: H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection- Timeline 4: H1, H(2018), H Kills, H Ends H3: Season Of The Witch is a completely different movie because originally the series was meant to be a anthology. Also a director named Rob Zombie made 2 remakes H(2007) and H2(2009). I would say just watch all them and see what you like and don’t like.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is an underrated classic! Shame the Halloween franchise didn't become the Analogy series that John Carpenter envisioned.
Not to mention, it gave us one of the coolest characters in the franchise and in horror, Dr. Dan “the man” Challis played by Tom Atkins. He’s a hard drinking, poon chasing doctor. When he’s not playing grab ass with his nurse or getting the occasional booty call from the medical examiner, he’s locking down some tail from his dead patient’s daughter MY MAN!
films of this period often started with a recap because there was no home video, so people wouldn't have seen the movie since years before. You'll notice Jamie Lee has a wig on because she had cut her hair short.
Glad you both liked it was always a gem few talk about how well it is done. Love the discussion with you and wife Samantha always so fun to see what you both like and disliked
The TV edit is a mess. It does show that Jimmy survived though. I always felt bad for nurse Jill. She was completely oblivious to what was happening and then Michael stabs her in the back.
@@joeyrogers7017- the Blu-ray from Scream Factory has both versions, on 2 separate discs (the theatrical & the TV cut) as well as has all the deleted scenes (including the extended ending) as a separate extra feature on both discs.
Michael did kill his sister Judith Myers in the first Halloween movie when he was 6 years old. Now 15 years later at age 21 Michael came back to kill Laurie, who is Michael's sister in this movie.
That scene at the end where Laurie shoots Michael twice in the eyes, blinding him, has an eerie, almost hauntingly beautiful quality about it, as it appears as if Michael is crying tears of blood.
It's a superb sequence. Always look forward to it on a reactor video. His mask seems to change in the different shots like it's subtly changing expression.
I've always loved this movie, but what's always irked me was that end of the of the first Halloween, Michael feel of the balcony and the end and landed on dirt, but here's we see the outline of his body on grass.
Haha! This movie definitely has a few moments that are a little "convenient" or perhaps hard to swallow, but it's also important to remember that there's a difference between what we know as the audience who gets to witness everything in the story and what the characters know, or even believe for that matter. There's a balance that a filmmaker has to strike, but sometimes the way people act in these movies is simply down to that. They can seem to act foolishly and we get frustrated, but we have the advantage of knowing more than the characters know. I do like this movie, but I think the first film is definitely on a higher level.
At the time, Jamie Lee Curtis said this would be her last horror film. After Halloween, she made The Fog, Terror Train, and Prom Night. She said a sequel to Halloween would be a good place to stop. But, of course, she came back to the role decades later. I guess she didn't specify how many sequels to Halloween that would include. Laurie being Michael's sister was added in this film. When Halloween aired on network TV, I believe NBC, just before this opened, they added new scenes that weren't in the original. One had Donald Pleasence in Michael's room at the asylum and he finds the word "sister" on the wall. These were shot specifically to tie into Halloween II.
Carpenter did not want to make Halloween II. The producer Irwin Yablans wanted it but Carpenter wanted to make The Fog first. So Yablans agreed to make The Fog first with a commitment for Halloween II. He went to Caan's to raise the money for both movies and on the plane talked to Bob Rheme, who ran AVCO Embassy and was also going to Caans. They talked about that he had Carpenter committed for The Fog and Halloween II. He met investors at Caans and came back and was securing the funding for both The Fog and Halloween II when he picked up Variety and saw that Rheme went behind his back and signed Carpenter to make TheFog at AVCO. Yablans sued both Carpenter and Rheme in court and they settled out of court but Carpenter was now court ordered to write and produce Halloween II, which he did not want to do. Yablans talks about it in the documentary for the Scream Factory bluray release titled "The Nightmare Isn't Over - The Making Of Halloween II". It is on youtube and you can see him talking about it from 1:55 - 4:03 of that documentary. He could not direct it as at the same time it was being made he was in pre-production on TheThing and directing Escape From New York. He got drunk every night on Bud Light every night writing the script for Halloween II he still was not finished the night before the court ordered deadline that he had to turn in the script. Bud Light Brasil even made a commercial 4 years ago about it which is on youtube titled "Bud & um clássico do Halloween | #KingOfHalloween #KingOfBeers". Anyway, he was drunk and at writers block and had 4 hours to turn in the final draft and he could not figure out why Michael was chasing Laurie. He said he actually typed out "That girl. That Strode girl. That's Michael Myers sister' not intending too as he was too drunk. He looked at it, got him through the writers block and said "fuck it" and finished the screen play in time to turn it in. When Carpenter saw the directors cut of halloween II he thought it was a scary as an episode of Quincy. Since NBC was paying him and the crew including Dean Cundey to shoot extended scenes for the first time Halloween was on TV, he shot the scene of Michael killing the Elrod's neighbor and the scene where the nurse gives her friend a ride home and Michael bumps into the kid with the boom box and finds out Laurie is at the hospital. That is why Michael in those scenes walks and moves like Nick Castle did as Myers in Halloween 1. Dick Warlock plays him in the whole movie but he told him not to do the slow walking zombie thing and got him to walk and move like Castle did in the first movie. Castle could not reprise his role as he was in pre-production on his first film. The mask is the same mask from 1 but producer Debra Hill took the hero mask home and threw it under her bed. Since she smoked a lot it yellowed and the hair was oily. It also looks different as Warlock's face is wider than Castle's is. Warlock also plays the cop who ran into Dick Bsxter (the kid who the cop car hit him into the van and set him on fire). Carpenter wanted to kill Michael Myers at the end of II so he actually dies at the end of Halloween II. The intention was to make anthology films with the name Halloween to come out every year. That is what Halloween III is. Had that movie been a hit we would have more Halloween films without Michael. But it tanked and so Aakad, who owns the rights, wanted to make Halloween IV. Carpenter submitted a script to be directed by Gremlins Joe Dante, but it was the ghost of Michael Myers coming back from the town banning Halloween after what happened in 1978. Aakad did not like it and so Carpenter and Hill sold their stake in the rights to Aakad. Halloween 4 - 6 is called the Thorn trilogy and is a 2nd timeline. H20 is only tied to Halloween 1 and II. Carpenter was supposed to direct it and Hill was supposed to producer again but they owed money to him from the residuals of 1 and 2 and 3. He set his price for directing it at the amount they owned him and they refused so Curtis got the guy who directed Friday the 13th 1 & 2 who just directed her in a movie to direct it. Her killing Michael at the end was supposed to be killing Michael. After the film was done the producers told her in the contract to make a Halloween film Aakad has a stipulation that they can not officially kill Myers until they make 32 films and that she was obligated to appear in Resurrection. She did so only for a lot of money and they had to kill her in the first 10 minutes. There are now 6 separate timelines for the movies. 1 timeline is the intended one of Halloween 1978 and Halloween II 1981. Timeline 2 is called The Thorn series and that is Halloween 1978, Halloween II 1981, halloween 4, Halloween 5 and Halloween 6. The 3rd timeline is called the Sister Timeline and it is Halloween 1978, Halloween ii 1981, Halloween H20, and Halloween Resurrection. 5th timeline is the Zombie reboot and sequel. The 6th timeline is Halloween 1978, Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. There is now going to be a Halloween TV show that takes place in the Halloween III timeline which is not a part of the Michael Myers timeline and Halloween 1978 and Halloween II are just movies in that separate timeline. As far as 1978 and 1981 (which takes place in 1978) no one really locked their doors back then as you did not have to. My Mom worked as a graveyard emergency room nurse and hospitals, especially in small towns like Haddonfield would turn many of their hallway lights off at night to conserve on power bill as they was not a lot of activity then in 1978. Jimmy is mainly there to give Laurie exposition and so Carpenter had to figure a way to keep him in the plot so made him have a crush on her. In the directors cut Jimmy is in the Ambulance with Laurie at the end. Carpenter had a real problem with the way it was directed but had no time to be on set. He saw the first cut and hated it as it was boring so he had another editor re-edit it and tighten it up and got the money from Universal to shoot the 2 scenes from NBC to shoot them. But Michaelis dead at the end of II.He now regrets not directing it and writing the script drunk and said he would have written it better. Also if you look at the 2 scenes he directed had he done the entire film it would have been way better. Also the kid with the razor blade was a play on a halloween myth that was big back in the day that a few kids somewhere in the US got given apples that had razor blades in them. That is why parents told their kids never to accept apples or candy apples and only store bought and still in the wrapper not messed with candy. Apparently they say that the razor blade thing never happened but I seem to remember it actually did somewhere in the US in the late 60's. But that is why it is in the movie. in the 70's and 80's that was a big thing around Halloween time to never accept apples or candy apples.
I'm glad they made Halloween 2, this is a great sequel. In my opinion this is the best Michael Myers. This is the one that scared the shit out of me when I was growing up.
Halloween 2 was supposed to be the end of the Michael Myer's story, but for financial reasons, they made Halloween 3. However, Halloween 3 is a stand alone, Halloween horror movie, about witchcraft. Halloween 4 - 6 brings back Michael Myers. Halloween H20 and Halloween Resurrection, brings back Jamie Lee Curtis, to conclude the Michael Myers story. Halloween (2007) and Halloween 2 (2008) are remakes by Rob Zombie. Halloween (2018) Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends are reboots, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, where only the events of the first Halloween are canon and act as direct sequels to the 1978 Halloween.
Halloween 4 is one of my favorites in this series. Halloween 3 is very underrated, and I would honestly love to see a remake of that with the intent of making a total of 3 or 4 movies that tell that story the way it shoyld be told. EDIT: Congratulations to the new addition to your family. I'm happy that everyone appears to be safe and healthy. My best wishes to your family. You two seem so cool, and I bet your child will love growing up around you guys.
The woman who came to get the doctor. Was the nurse in the begining of Halloween. When Michael escaped and stole their car. She was that nurse who dropped her Rabbit matches. We saw later in that movie too. The matches were from a bar like Lucky Rabbit/ Bunny or something like that.
Even though, Carpenter didn't want to do Halloween 2, it was a solid sequel. In my opinion, the story could have ended with this film. Plus the theme song is cool.
Very solid sequel to the original. Loved the callbacks at the beginning and this picked up where it left off. Cool intro and the musical score is amazing as usual. Got some good kills and liked that this mostly took place at the hospital. I felt so bad for Loomis. They keep constantly ignoring his warnings about Michael and look what ended up happening. Everyone dies and they keep blaming Loomis for it. Sheriff Brackett really PISSED me off in this movie because of that reason. If they had just listened to him earlier, the people, including his daughter would be ALIVE! Imagine the audacity! But as I got older, I grew up to loathe the twist of them making Michael and Laurie related to each other. To me, they ruined what made Michael scary... by giving him a reason to kill. They didn't need to give him a reason like that, other than just being pure evil. That was all the reason you needed. Glad they fixed that nonsense in the 2018 reboot though!
Jamie Lee Curtis, Pamela Susan Shoop (Karen), and Ana Alicia (Janet) all appeared on the Glen Larson sci-fi television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, and Shoop and Alicia also appeared in Glen Larson's Battlestar Galactica.
The mask that Michael Myers wears was molded off of William Shatner's face. Years later (90s or 2000s) on Conan O'Brien's show, William Shatner couldn't recall which boogeyman franchise villain had used a mold of his face for, I believe he thought it may have been Jason from Friday the 13th movies, which was a hockey mask instead.
Happy Halloween! TBR Schmitt reviews Halloween II! I haven't been like watching your reviews religiously, but I certainly watch some every now and then when something just pops up on my youtube suggestions. And we've got Halloween II pretty close to Halloween. I had to check and see if I had seen your Halloween I; and I hadn't. So, I went ahead and watched that first. And I'll go ahead and leave my notes on episode two here! - Well, I re-watch Halloween religiously every year. My favorites are the first two, H2O and I'm thinking Resurrection(yea, the one with Tyra Banks in it). I first watched these before knowing Jamie Lee Curtis was the daughter of Janet Leigh, who was the girl in Psycho!. Janet Leigh shows up in the Fog, which I noticed you reviewed just a few days ago. So, I'll go and watch that one after I finish watching this Halloween II review. I've watched that one also! I also didn't know Donald Pleasance was in the James Bond movie. But, that's a great tidbit. - Well, I certainly think Halloween II is a great sequel and should have been the last one. Well, I do like H2) and Resurrection. But, logically, this should have been the last Halloween movie. As Nick Castle(who made the Last Starfighter along with Lance Guest in Halloween II here) says "look, they burned him to ashes. How can he come back to life?" Well, maybe Michael Myers could come back to life, but I've thought of another way to permanently end Michael Myers - leave the knife in him. In fact, after you leave the knife hin him, I'd stick a pole straight through him, and hang him up high somewhere.
I don't know what others are going to say, but Halloween III is my favorite of the series post-Halloeen '78. It has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the franchise, but it's a great stand-alone horror film.
*Fun Fact. The director of Halloween 2 Rick Rosenthal Met on set and Married The nurse from H1 & H2 played by Nancy Stephens and they are still married today*
I feel that this is a solid sequel, but the beginning has one of my biggest movie pet peeves. At the start Dr Loomis clearly has a six shooter, but we hear SEVEN shots!
Halloween II was directed by Rick Rosenthal, who basically did a very good John Carpenter impersonation when directing this film. It has been reported that Carpenter was still dissatisfied with Rosenthal's original cut, and was involved in the edited process in post-production. Rick Rosenthal would later go on to direct the juvenile detention center drama Bad Boys (1983) with Sean Penn, and later return to the Halloween franchise to direct Halloween: Resurrection (2002).
@@44excalibur You're also leaving out Rosenthal was way past his prime by the time he directed Resurrection. Seriously do you ever go out to see the sun? I've never seen a d0rk comment so much in 1 thread
@@sychox149 No, the comment you made was a dork comment. Sure, I could have been a jerk and said that Bad Boys with Sean Penn was the only good film that Rick Rosenthal ever made, but considering the crap that Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes were, I chose to let Rosenthal go out quietly. Halloween VI: The Curse of Michael Myers was utter garbage as well, but it's no longer worth complaining about.

The hallway in the hospital is dark because that’s how it was back then. They had strict visiting hours and insisted on patients getting rest. Now, they leave the lights on and bother you every hour despite more sophisticated monitoring equipment.
Facts lmao 😂😂🤣
I think it varies, though. Around 2015 or so I went to a hospital at around 11:30 PM and it did seem more dimly lit than normal plus there definitely wasn't that much staff present.
Thank you for explaining this-l was wondering why the hospital was so dark.
Not where I used to live
In the TV version, is established that Myers cut the power off, so that`s why the Hospital is in darkness, with the emergencies lights only.

Which is why he says "I didn't recognise you" - not in your nurses uniform...
She worked Part time at both places.

6:43 - Around this time when this movie came out, there was a real Halloween scare of people slipping pins and razors into apples, knowing that children were going to be bobbing for apples at Halloween parties. This was the director's lil' nod to that very real scare; likely to add to the terror of movie goers.
It wasn't a very real scare, it was an urban legend.
The scare was real, even if the incidents were myth, and it was definitely propagated in the news, and contributed to the Halloween safety guidelines that persist today about checking the wrapper on a piece of candy before eating it to make sure it's still fully sealed.
@@themoviedealers we had reports in my area of those things happening.
That kid with the razor in his gums stems from an old urban legend about someone who use to put razors in apples doing Halloween. Several movies depicted this.

🔥💯
And then Carpenter wasn't happy with Rosenthal's cut, and he personally shot a series of gore inserts to make the killings more "scary". Rosenthal apparently made a more restrained film that Carpenter was looking for...
During a rough cut of the film the producers and Universal studios felt the film was very tame compared to other slashers being made at the time (Carpenter himself said in an interview "the rough cut of Halloween II was as scary as the medical TV show 'Quincy'), so they called John Carpenter back in to direct a series of reshoots to add in more suspense and gore (unbeknownst to director Rick Rosenthal)...so technically, John Carpenter did actually direct some (about 15%) of Halloween II
At the same exact time, TV network executives told John Carpenter that they were going have to re-edit and cut out/delete some footage from the original Halloween for television broadcasting (mainly the gore and nudity scenes) however that would make the film's running time shorter than most broadcast running times for films on TV (and it would make it a very difficult sell for syndication as well), so John Carpenter took the film crew from Halloween II (that he was already using for the reshoots) as well as had Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance back (along with calling back P.
@@justinplayfair4638 I know, I mentioned this in my other comments.
That's harsh considering Donald pleasance was a fantastic actor
Dick Warlock is not his birth name

I like that ending, it's on the TV version I watch all the time.
Growing up on Halloween, we were always taught to check our candies for any possible needle holes in case they were poisoned. The kid in this movie must have eaten an apple with a razor blade in it, another fear at the time. We would always sit together after getting our candy haul and check every candy before we started eating them.
That is all a myth, no one got a razor in their mouth or poisoned candy. They just went along with that suburban myth.
Yup. Me too. Always remember that as a kid in Richland Center, WI

That's what I like about the TV version, it explains the darkness in the hospital.
@@softscrub88 You're welcome. 😊
In this storyline Laurie was adopted by the Strode family. In a dream flashback her stepmom tells Laurie "I'M NOT YOUR MOTHER".

Excellent sequel. I couldn't get enough of these movies when I was a teenager...and I survived.
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
That scene at the end where Laurie shoots Michael twice in the eyes, blinding him, has an eerie, almost hauntingly beautiful quality about it, as it appears as if Michael is crying tears of blood.
Crazy writer wrote. Halloween 4. In 6 days. He got script in. 2hours before writers strike.
I have a movie recommendation for you to react to: IDENTITY (2003), an intense psychological thriller, with brain-blowing twists, you'll love it
Ohh starring John Cusack right.. wow thats a great thriller 👍
OH GOD NO. One of my most HATED films. Disrespects the audience and stabs them in the back. Also makes zero sense.

I knew that jump @ 6:00 was gonna get Sam lol
15:56, the dentist is Jeffrey Kramer, who played the Deputy Hendricks in JAWS.
Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking Halloween III is underrated!
I love watching you guys react to these classics. Y'all are so awesome.
Y'all gotta squeeze in Halloween 3 by the end of the season. It perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday.
Great sequel saw at the theater with my wife, fun times! Slasher movies were huge back then , thanks Y’all!
Pamela also appeared in the two-hour pilots of the original "Magnum P.I." and "Knight Rider".
@@Madbandit77 I know, but I was mentioning the coincidence that three of the actresses in Halloween II were in Buck Rogers. 😂
I am writing this to help out tbr Schmitt and Samantha and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥰❤️✌️☺️
How can he come back to life?"
Well, maybe Michael Myers could come back to life, but I've thought of another way to permanently end Michael Myers - leave the knife in him. In fact, after you leave the knife hin him, I'd stick a pole straight through him, and hang him up high somewhere.
Robocop approved the random kid getting smoked in the beginning
I don't know what others are going to say, but Halloween III is my favorite of the series post-Halloeen '78. It has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the franchise, but it's a great stand-alone horror film.
Absolutely loved the spooky season videos guys thanks for the laughs and vibes congrats and happy Halloween from Philly!!🎃💖💙
Poor Ben Tramer! Dr. Loomis accidently got Laurie's crush from the first film...well, ,*crushed*. And incinerated of course...
Great reaction 🔥💯
Resurrection might be the worst halloween film of them all.
@@punkem733 This is what happens when Rosenthal doesn't have Carpenter around.
Don't worry...He'll Be BACK!! Check out Jamie Lee in PROM Night (1980) too.
Great reactions guys!!
Love all of your reactions!!
Mike Myers is Wayne Campbell ( From Wayne's World 1 & 2 AND Austin Powers movies)
To be fair, Mike Myers kills me, too.
Happy Halloween to our favorite couple ❤👻🍂🍁💀
