Good content again. Question about seed. Bought some premium seed as fully renovating lawn, but got hit by freezing temps so put the 5kg bag of seed (unopened in hessian bag and box) in to the shed. Went in shed 2 weeks later (yesterday) and I appear to have mice and they've gone to town and burrowed into the box and dug the contents put all over the floor. Is this seed still safe/good to use, despite the mouse droppings. Also what's best way to store seed to avoid mice attacking it.
You should see my shee.. had exactly the same happen to me. I'm still going to show the seeds. They should have kept fairly dry I hope.. unless moisture has gotten in. If dry they should be fine, but if your shee is prone to sweating or having drips come down off the roof perhaps not so good..me personally I'm gonna try them on my own lawn shortly... prob best in a plastic sealer container stored in the dark!
The only need for iron sulphate is to kill moss if you haven't got a scarifier or the moss keeps coming back. I apply it very tentatively with a miracle gro feeder on a hosepipe where it's need. A little at a time until I can see the moss going black the next day. Very little is needed and it is very acidic so the less used the better. Actual miracle gro feed is all you need to revitalise the lawn and the feeder is the easiest way to apply it. One sachet per 100 square metres until it's all gone which takes about fifteen minutes.
Those CP sprayers are the dogs doodahs. I’ve had the CP15 for nearly 20 years and it’s never let me down. Bloody pricey but after 20 years use it’s actually a bargain.
I am a little confused, why does it stain orange/brown if the iron powder you are using is grey or white in colour? Great video, please keep them coming. 🙏
Does anyone know the science behind adding iron to the lawn? What is the biological benefit of adding iron? Other than just making it a darker green is there any real reason to apply it?
Iron is a nutrient that plants do use, its also called a turf hardener.. you can often see lawns that have been treated fair so much better over winter
would it not be easier to mix the solution in the plastic water drum then pour into the sprayer once properly mixed. it means you can put the lid on and give it a good shake without spilling and would reduce the risk of unmixed iron clogging the sprayer.
Hi.. maybe.. I've never done that. Suppose old habits die hard. Iron does stain so I'd prob not want it staining the drums as I also use the drums for water for other treatments such as weedkiller.
Surely its about a given quantity of of product per square meter...not a cocentration ratio, randomly applied..? Watching this- you have no idea how much you actually sprayed to the grassed area....!
Hi it's already calibrated to my own walking speed. Setting sprayers up to deliver the right amount requires knapsack calibration which is already set up for me. Thankfully iron sulphate is a little forgiving if you over apply. So the 1 to 1.2 litres of iron in 20 litres knapsack delivers at the right rate through the right nozzle for me if that makes sense. Everyone elses walking speed and spray width would affect their own particular ratios however with iron its a little more forgiving
I thought the same too. You need to know the area of lawn to determine how much iron to use. The amount of water is almost insignificant, enough to give the lawn a decent drench. Off the top of my head, I tend to use 6/7g of 19% iron for every sqm, for a 100sqm lawn I would use 10l of water with 600/700g when killing moss. I’d also cut the grass first. On very heavy infestations I would also scarify before spraying iron. Another tip is to use an absorbent door mat on hard surfaces to wipe your boots. We all have different methods I suppose, someone will be along to say my methods are wrong too!
Grab the exact same iron sulphate I personally use amzn.to/35J0whF

Do you ever feel the need to double pass in different directions ? I always feel the need to.. obviously half the dose/ just as much applied overall - looking forward to seeing you throughout the season 👍🏼
Hiya mate hope you are well and ready for the season..I've personally never ever double sprayed iron.. not saying it's not agood idea.. maybe I've done it in efficiently over the years, dont know.. might be worth me trying the double pass method .. although that would make me get home later in the day 🤣
@@LawnRight yeah mate just been finishing off some of the paperwork side of things today for new customers that are on treatment plans !
Absolutely, your way is half the time and obviously very affective ! I suppose I have maybe over worried about even application! May take some to a singular pass this season! If I do, you’ll definitely get a shout out 😄💪🏽🌱
Have a great season pal!
@@LawnRight now then wiil that green all the grass up as well killing the moss ?
Do you recommend watering in the Iron sulphate after application?
So, how much per sq meter?
Approx 2g.. I use 800g to 1kg for a 20 litre knapsack and that covers about 400 sq metres so 80g would cover 40 sq metres, 8g 4sqm, 2g per sqm
How the heck didn't that clog up? I'm constantly straining my iron and it still clogs and you just threw the load straight in! 😂 Is it down to the cp3 knapsack?
HI, for me at leats its in the mixing.. I used to shake the sprayer maybe 40 times and it would clog.. I then upped it to 100 times and it very raley clogs.. I remove the filter in the handle/trigger for a clean maybe once a week
Why do you add a drop of washing up liquid?
Hi.. It helps the product get in a little easier thanks
@@LawnRight thanks, I will do that from now on 👍
Good content again.
Hi Shaun. Do you usually rake up the black/dead moss or just leave it?
Hi you would normally rake it out using a springbok or spring tine rake, or scarifying rake or a scarifier/dethatcher thanks
Thanks very much.
5:44 me all the time
The only need for iron sulphate is to kill moss if you haven't got a scarifier or the moss keeps coming back.
Why add washing up liquid?
Hi it helps iron get in and helps keep sprayer bit cleaner
Those CP sprayers are the dogs doodahs. I’ve had the CP15 for nearly 20 years and it’s never let me down. Bloody pricey but after 20 years use it’s actually a bargain.
That's exactly the point. Spot on 😊. Mine have lasted too. Solid units
Made me think of Ghostbusters for some reason. Don't cross the streams!
🤣🤣 I've genuinely earned about 10 million pounds for the number of times I've heard that 🤣🤣🤣
I am a little confused, why does it stain orange/brown if the iron powder you are using is grey or white in colour? Great video, please keep them coming. 🙏
That's a good question.. I honestly dont know!
It oxidises. I.e. literally rusts.
Can you give us a 24 after photo.
Hiya I wont be back at that Garden for another 10 weeks sorry
I would have dethatched the lawn first, then raked it then sprayed it with Iron sulfate.
would it not be easier to mix the solution in the plastic water drum then pour into the sprayer once properly mixed. it means you can put the lid on and give it a good shake without spilling and would reduce the risk of unmixed iron clogging the sprayer.
Hi.. maybe.. I've never done that. Suppose old habits die hard. Iron does stain so I'd prob not want it staining the drums as I also use the drums for water for other treatments such as weedkiller.
one lite jug that lot hi say
👍

Your method is wrong.
