Another great vid. I've had a pot of iron sulphate in the shed for a couple of years. It's in a sealed pot but I can't use it yet as I've just overseeded and done some bare patches.
Hi Shaun I have a 16 month old French bulldog always pees on the lawn I get nothing but dark green patches not yellow 😁👍👍keep up the good work enjoy watching your videos 👍
Good stuff mate. I'm going to start catching up on videos now. Having a new born is taking all my spare time up. Lots of very good information on this video mate. We provide lawncare now only as a add on to regular work. I found it too hard to manage providing a lawncare program in top of all my other commitments
Hi Shaun, great video when you were talking about applying iron, with the green deflector nozzle, I have the dark green one, do I need the light green one instead?
Hi you should be fine .. theres not a lot of uniformity among some lesser known manufacturers so check the specs first.. essentially a heavy output is desired si you'll know if you're pumping hard to keep up
Another good one Shaun. I just bought sprayer bargain buy at supermarket. Would you recommend using seaweed as I have some available. I have lawn about 80 sq meters so not sure how much to use if I get iron. Thanks Shaun
Hi ! Yes seaweed is more of a stimulant and fertiliser whereas iron is a turf gardener. Youd need to check the instructions for the application rate as they will all be different. You can apply both together to save time but I'd prob apply the seaweed first then iron a different day
You can use the same but you'll need to triple rinse it between each use.. make sure to spray clean water out too..(dont spray onto a hard surface as the iron will stain..you need rough ground or pebbles or spray into a container to be removed via a licensed waste removal
Hi JC! Thanks.. I wouldnt say I'd follow the exact same pattern with each white stripe being in the same spot but it may just happen by accident that it happens that way..to define stripe you simply use the roller on the mower.. for a more defined stripe you can go over it a second or third time 😊😊👍
@@LawnRight Hi Shaun, great videos, thank you. I have just seeded and overseeded some areas at beginning of Oct. Based on your reply here I need to wait till mid December to put iron, and I'd like to as I get a lot of moss in a shady area. Is there still benefit in applying iron in mid December / Jan or should I wait till early spring?
@@stuartfoster Hi Stuart, its perfectly fine to apply at any point while moss is around :) I actually go twice with iron to my customers.. once around now and the 2nd one somewhere between January and february
Hi Shaun doesn't that CP3 20L put strain on your back by the end of the day, top of my back kills me is this just me or do you suffer with bad back aswell with all your hard work?. Any advice?
Hi Ian I think I'm used to it after 20 years, but if I'm on a big job keeping it on my back it starts to get uncomfortable ... that said..... I do have back issues I'm dealing with now. One thing you could do is just half fill it but then you're refilling more often.
Shaun looking great, I am curious as to what the cylinder mower you featured in this was? Sorry seen someone asked on the first comment and you have already answered.
Hi Shaun, thanks for another great video. What's a good rate through the year to apply the iron for general upkeep and should it be applied over winter? I've only ever used it 2 weeks prior to scarifying to kill off moss in Spring and autumn this year. Cheers, Mick
Yeah perhaps once every 4 to 8 weeks over winter or as needed.. the odd bit at other times at a much weaker rate for a helping hand in greening up.. so typically 800g in 20 litres water normal maybe 400 to 500 to green up
@@LawnRight thanks for your reply Shaun and my apologies as I somehow missed your reply. I've only just seen it when revisiting your iron application videos, having just done some today on one of our lawns. I think I got it right but time will tell and I'm planning on scarifying the lawn I did anyway, so hopefully I put enough down to kill of the last of the moss 🙂
Am wondering after watching one of your videos were you added spring/summer fertiliser, where you measured it and went over your lawn 3 times with it to use it up. I always just filled hopper and went over the one time and it seemed to do a job. Now Am wondering weather to measure it and just use up what's in the hopper like yourself....maybe I havnt put enough fertiliser down...! Need to measure my lawn!

@@LawnRight hello Shaun I didn't think so. I used iron to green up. So I wait till March or April to put down Nitrogen and a week after a little iron to really green up. What Nitrogen is best to use. Thanks Vic

Hi grassthief.. so you should be fine with the iron if the sod was installed in Junethats plenty of time to get itself fairly well established. And yes you def have the temps and right conditions (8 inches of water.. omg!).. so nothing wrong with a lighter dose..do it and see what it looks like few days after you can always apply again if desired 😊👍

We’ve recently (around a month ago) reseeded our lawn it was approximately 90% dead from leatherjacket damage. The seeded grass is going well and we will be over seeding a couple of patches in the next week or so. Can we use iron or nitrogen fertiliser at this point?
Hi def no to the iron as mentioned by MW. A preseed fert is best however I've had good results with a general balanced fertiliser as a light dusting.. you could also use an autumn fert if theres no iron in it as that helps support root development
Hi Shaun, any tips to deal with shallow grass roots? First time this week I used a core aerator and noticed non of the grass roots actually go down into the soil
Hi.. so any autumn fertilizer will help the roots.. however be interesting to find out why it's not developed.. could be the case if youve only recently reseeded.. in which case it's just a case of waiting... could it be that you've just had a chafer grub issue who have eaten some roots... it could also be a load of hardcore just beneath the surface.. it could be a thatch lawn on very sandy soil and struggling with heat ants etc. Possibly it could be clay boggy soil with a high water table in which case it would get worse each winter and thin out and go boggy
Gotta water deeply and infrequently. Make those roots chase the water. Try using a soil softner as well. Works incredibly well. Loosens was deeper than any aerator. Simply green makes it. Twice per year. Roots be deeeeepppp
Hi it's best in a sprayer to be fair.have you mixed the iron with warm water? It's best with warm water..however I never do as I'm out working so it's always cold water.. I use a green fast flowingdeflector nozzle..when mixing I rock the sprayer back and forth 100 times and that usually works almost always to avoid clogging.. now clogging itll happen eventually no matter what. Where the lance meets the trigger, if you unscrew the trigger from the hose (this is what I do in my cooper regular sprayer) there will be a plastic mesh which will be crushed up with brown grey iron sludge.. a good tap or wire brush will clear it..and youll prob have to do if a couple of times a week if you use it regularly

Worth mixing a small bit together in a jar or tub first just to check they don't form lumps which would clog the sprayer
