      That is an error you can get, usually, when there isn't a database entry for the camera and sensor your photographs were taken with. Meshroom needs that data in order to run its calculations. You may need to input it manually into the database.

      So, you will need to check a few things:
      - Make sure your graphics driver is up to date!
      - Make sure your files are all saved locally. Don't work off external drives or anything like that.
      - Make sure your photos don't have underscores (_) in the naming, especially as the first character.
      - If none of that helped then try this: make a backup of your files, then delete all the folders in the Meshroom project from depthmap onwards. Launch Meshroom and try it again.
      If that doesn't work, copy the command prompt error data along with your system specs into a pastebin/hastebin and link it to me, and I'll try to debug it.
      Some of my students have had similar issues, but what I've suggested has gotten everyone through the project so far.

      This happens sometimes. There are a few things that could be going wrong.
      Firstly, ensure that all your photos and your project are saved onto the hard drive of the computer you're working on. That means no using photos or project files that are saved onto SD cards or external drives.
      Secondly, try to remove spaces in file names and if the file starts with an underscore, remove the underscore.
      If none of these things work, you may need to start a new project.
      Also, make sure you're using a CUDA enabled GPU and that your GPU driver is up to date.

I have no idea why it's not moving past that step-- and why whatever the issue is won't display in the command prompt. Every time I click start it moves past the Camera Init step, and then I get the spinning mouse icon, and then the program crashes leaving the command prompt open. Nothing changes in the command prompt-- and then that closes as well. I'm completely stumped.

    What in the case of taking photos with smartphone with unknown sensor width? And unknown camera brand? So far have no problem with new Meshroom 2019, but also did not tried yet my Motorola smartphone, which is more handy for some situations. Thanks.

    • @Crompwell
      @Crompwell  4 года назад

      I have run into this problem. You will need to find out the sensor width of the camera you are using. This can usually be done with a quick google search. Next you will need to look into the meshroom files for the camera sensor DB file. You can locate it here: Meshroom-2019.2.0\aliceVision\share\aliceVision\cameraSensors.db
      Open this file with a text editor and append your camera with brand, model, and sensor width (The command prompt/error log of meshroom should give you the camera model/brand). There are plenty of entries there for you to base your entry on. This should enable Meshroom to process the images you take with that camera.

    • @Crompwell
      @Crompwell  3 года назад

      This is an issue that a few of my students have run into. First, make a backup of your project folder!
      One of the common fixes is to see where the process stopped. For example, if it stopped at "depth map," then go into your meshroom project folder and delete each folder corresponding to the process nodes where it was stopped or has not yet been computed. Then close and reopen meshroom and your project. That usually allows you to start the project again.
      If not, you will need to look at your photos and if they are saved locally or are being read from an external source such as an SD card or external storage. You SHOULD NOT be running meshroom if your photos are not stored locally on your machine.
      Otherwise, you may want to check issue tickets on the meshroom repository or submit your own.
      I hope this helps. Best of luck!

    Mr. Cromwell, I'm a new subscriber. I am very interested in the Forensic use of Meshroom and programs like it. One thing of immediate interest to me is scaling a point cloud to get measurements. For example if I do a photo series on a tire impression that includes an ABFO scale along the edge and it is part of the generated point cloud, how can I use that to set a scale within the cloud points that I use elsewhere? You can find me on LinkedIn or reply here.

    • @Crompwell
      @Crompwell  5 лет назад

      I'm not sure how I missed this comment, my apologies. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with the concept of manipulating point cloud data, as I'm more of a designer than an engineer.
      Regardless, I would have to venture to guess that, providing the data is as accurate as possible, one might be able to generate a mesh of the tire impression and compare that against the provided ABFO scale. Depending on the software used to manage the point cloud data, it may be possible to set the overall scene scale to ensure the data is presented accurately in the software. If not, the scale can also be set properly within 3D software like Blender, for example.
      With a little math, this might be enough information to recreate the forward surface of the tire and tread. However, the difficulty in accurately reconstructing the tire will be determining the circumference based on the tread pattern. If there is enough data to clearly indicate a repetition in the tread, that may help find the circumference.
      I hope that helps in some way.

    • @MilanKarakas
      @MilanKarakas 4 года назад

      @@Crompwell I had simple problem where Meshroom said that focal length is unknown, but processed photos anyway. Just in blender it is somewhat wrong scale. It is easy to fix by using scale for x,y and z coordinates. For calibrating, also it is possible to 3D model ruler sitting on the table for example. Then just adjust scale so that next time we know how to measure features on 3D model. I am also more interested in 3D art than forensic, but that may help reconstruct the scene.

    • @Crompwell
      @Crompwell  4 года назад

      @@MilanKarakas Hmm, accurately replicating scale in 3D is somewhat finicky. Photogrammetry replicates the proportions of objects with as much fidelity as your images can provide, however, matching scale is usually something that needs to be done in the software after the photo-scanning. Using a ruler may help provide you with a good reference to scale, so long as you can read it. It's very common for people working in forensics to include some kind of measuring instrument in their photos, so this seems in line with your goals.

    Hello!
    I have a problem. Meshroom stops at texturing. What should I do?

    • @Crompwell
      @Crompwell  4 года назад

      Save the file and try to relaunch meshroom. If that doesn't work, make a backup copy, delete everything in the texturing folder and try again. Otherwise, try it on a different machine or new project. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

      @@Crompwell why dont the programmers just do the small job of making the software intuitive? they could even charge for it

      @@Crompwell oh. yes. constructive. Get a non nerd on the team. anytime there is doubt of what to do, just obviate that problem by making an in problem instruction. cannot compute? tell us why. also guide us to do it right the first time. like when installing a new app and it guides you through your first use.
      if an image cannot be used, tell us up front before computing (by computing) and tell us why. people just want to snap pictures and get a 3d model out. make it simple.
      also the gui was unintelligible the first time.
      why the squares at the bottom? should have been explained by a wizard. a literal virtualone that walks you through the gui if it is complex.

    0:50 how do you open the window?

      Typically, it opens with the application. I click on the taskbar icon and navigate to the second window.

      Are you trying to drag them in from an external drive? Because if you are, it won't work. You must first transfer the photos onto your machine, then drag them in.

      Please make sure the photos are saved locally, onto your HDD. If you are trying to add them to Meshroom from an external drive or SD card, it will not work.

      After the point cloud is calculated you need to create the mesh. There should be a button in the 3D viewer window.

      you will need to check a few things:
      I would also recommend trying the newest version of Meshroom (as of now should be 2019 version)
