Can’t believe I messed that up at the start haha. If you watch later on the video I said the trade correctly. I don’t know how I missed that in the watch over
@@SSHockey No worries. I read the trade correctly the first time I saw it and I still read it as Montreal sending the 2nd rounder. It just felt like more of a plausible trade to me. The fact that Montreal got a second round pick and Patrik Laine is absolutely unbelievable.

I'm 44 years old and A Habs fan since I was 13 and saw Patrick wink at Sandstrom. Lot of GM's over that time, Serge Savard, Gainey, Andre Savard, Rejean FOOL, Gautier, Bergevin, and I've never seen a GM put together a more complete offseason. No stupid 5 year deal to a 30 year old for 2 mil too much, no reaching for the 20th ranked player at the 5th pick, no prove it deals to your best young players, no head scratching deal of your best young defenceman for a small french canadian who you hope and pray can be a center, no media hostility with a stubborn my way or the highway head coach who believes allowing 40 shots against with 20 for is a good win when your all-star goalie is literally carrying you, as the same head coach bashes anyone who tries to score as lazy, no thinking that it's sustainable to try and compete without having anyone who can score a point a game or god forbid 40 goals, no burying your best young prospect on the 3rd line playing 12 minutes a night, no we drafted these kids they're adults and on their own and we shouldn't try and support and coach and grow and they if they don't succeed it's their fault, no spending right up to the cap with any change in his pocket every freaking year, throwing good money after bad, None of that. He did the exact opposite of that, which is a minor miracle. Even if this doesn't work this year I'm so happy to have a GM that every move he's made for going on a year, I agree with and in some cases shocked he pulled off. Bravo Gorton, Bravo Hughes, one more year like this and the Habs will be contenders.
It’s such a big difference compared to the last regime controlling the team. The roster seems much more well thought out, deep prospect wise at every position. The Habs are gonna be great!
totally agree. what I like about Hughe / Gortons is that they been faithful to their plan from the get go. They told the fans "its a reconstruction, so next few seasons will be ugly, brace youself". They did not try to satisfy the media by doing stupid trades, they focused on drafting and took every opportunity they could with dach, newhook, and now laine. If we make the playoff this year, im happy. then in 25-26 or 26-27, ill hope for a cup.
@@KobeToddirt I don’t think the Habs make the playoffs this year, I hope I’m wrong but I think that’s still a year away. My positivity stems from the fact that this rebuild looks like a well executed plan without panic that modernizes every facet of this organization. We as fans like to believe we could do it better if they just listened to us, of course if it’s done well we’re probably wrong.
At first I was also sure Columbus was getting the second. Crazy that it's the Habs that got it. A pure salary dump. I like it for MTL big time!! Good video btw.
Thank you very much! Ya I thought the Jackets got the 2nd originally. Couldn’t even catch that I said the Habs gave it up in the watch through. Excellent trade for Hughes!
Harris is a stalwarth young man with a good head on his shoulders, CBJ will love him. A solid bottom four defensive defensemen with some offensive upside.
Already said in here but Habs got Laine and a 2 rd pick which is were Harris was picked and an expandable defense considering how stacked is their defense and just opening a spot for one of the current rookies situation on the blue line
As a fellow Finn, I love the guy WHEN he's going. I think he needs to improve his skating, but he is really really good on his shots. I hope he takes this opportunity and really shines in Montreal.
I hope so as well! I’m a neutral fan with Montreal, but it’s always awesome to see guys with all the talent in the world succeeding. Especially considering what he’s been through. Side note, pretty cool moment having someone from Finland see this!
Laine will flourish under St Louis, his guidance as well as his patient approach in teaching without adding pressure while learning a new system. Laine will love his new team, he will quickly fit in and thrive under St Louis who as we all know has a nack for moulding players the right way.
One important thing to keep in mind. Most people radically change when they're young. They mature. They learn from their mistakes. They seek redemption. Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt in that respect instead of agonizing (like Habs fans are wont to do) over the potential (not PROBABLE) doom and gloom. Life is more fun this way.
Its a great exchange harris to a 2nd round in 2026 Laine will wake up he was having personal problems have to respect that He got 2 years to prove himself and get a big contract after that i believe he will show his value to get a big contract either with montreal or another team im really happy with the trade specially with a big talent player like Laine
Laine could be a key power play element for habs. lets hope this will materialise on the ice. not just on paper. But we can look forward to seeing Laine score many goals if chemestry bounds with whoever clic on the ice. As long as the results are there. And if Josh Anderson finds his game back this also can give a boost to the Mtl Canadians. Positive thinking guys :)
Does Laine make you a cup contender? It makes the team better but Montreal is not in a position to.want to be better yet. Just seems like a bad shortcut to me
Definitely not a contender yet. But Laine’s contract expires in two years when they will probably be entering their competitive window. By that point, he could either be worth the $8.7M or re-sign at a cheaper deal. Win win either way in my opinion considering they also got a 2nd and only had to give up Harris
In my opinion, Laine makes the team better when they don't want to be better. I think Montreal will flip him at the deadline for picks or prospects because I don't think he'll get them in the playoffs. He will however get them close to the playoffs which will make their picks lower in the draft and I think Laine is a bad guy to have in the room with a bunch of young impressionable players. I believe the Habs would have been better off taking on good character players that are playing below what their contracts are worth as well as acquiring the prospects and picks that go with them, those guys are very valuable at the deadline as well
