Hi folks! Experimented a little bit with the video. I’m hoping for better weather for the future camps. Recent weather has not been great and I hope everyone is doing well with the storms. Cheers
@@ellem2293 Thankfully settled weather seems to be due in Scotland for at least the next week. No doubt the met office will change that though. ATB Gaz
Completely forgot I caught you dropping your phone until I reviewed all my videos from this trip. Just happy the phone still works and you got a good video done too. ATB Gaz👍
Brutal winds, no issues for the tent though of course. You might perhaps reduce flapping of the inner tent, by double looping the toggles used to attach the inner.
That was a pretty wild night Gaz! Glad to see that Monty's tent held up in the end. We've walked there and that's a pretty boggy section to get across before the main climb. Wouldn't have fancied it after the weather we have had recently so fair play to you both. You really see how impressive Ben Lawers is from there. Hope you get calmer conditions for your next outing. Atb Kev
Thanks Kevin. I’ve done Meall Corranaich twice now and the first time I had good views of Ben Lawers. It’s an impressive summit with good views of the surrounding area. Boggy part was bad but the path higher up helped. ATB Gaz
Just got to trust the tents in poor weather. The visibility had me worried a little when trying to find my Soulo in the evening. Enjoyed the challenge the bad weather provided though. ATB Gaz
@@GazTheExplorer No one can ever call you a wimp!! You & Monty are so brave IMO I was thinking... Monty's tent will soon be gone but no it withstood & yeh I was thinking where tf is his tent it was pitch black! Deffo think your tent was better or in a better position. But I would want a stronger tent with a wind breaker for me lol
There's no hiding places up there should your gear fail, fair play to you guys for getting out there & putting trust in your shelter's..the Soulo certainly proves to be a friend indeed when needed.. brilliant video, stay safe out there matey.
Nice to hear about your Terra Nova performing well in poor conditions. The Soulo is small but does the job it’s supposed to do really well. Hoping to put the Nallo GT through similar conditions at some point this winter too. ATB Gaz
Cheers mate. I climbed it years ago but couldn't remember it. Had to check my old Munro map. Looks like a good top for a tent pitch so I'll try out my new tent on it. Carry on with the excellent videos bud🤜🤛
Thanks Geoff, my wee tent was loud at times but happy to say it done the job again. Monty’s tent is a lot quieter than my tent even though it did cave in a lot throughout the night. Both tents should do the job this winter. ATB Gaz
Aww yes Gaz, what an awesome vid, I really loved the way you filmed the wind battering the tent from all of the angles..like being there but not having to get cold or wet haha, your videography was excellent as always. Good to see you and Monty have a good wild weather camp in the Scottish autumnal weather 😂
Thanks Susz. Looking back at the trip it was worth getting soaked and dealing with the wind. Happy with the performance of the tents. Enjoyed filming different angles of both tents dealing with the wind. Good laugh with Monty too. Hopefully more camps like this one to come. ATB Gaz
Great to see you both out and a good test for both Tents. Definitely need ear plugs in weather like that. Great job Gaz look forward to seeing your next trip. 👍🏻🍻
Glad I brought my earplugs for this trip Rich. Definitely helped get some sleep throughout the night. Worst bit of the night was dealing with a small slope. Thought the ground was flat. Too windy to try and move the tent to another location on the summit. Happy it was just the one night. Still hoping to do a two night camp before the end of the year. ATB Gaz
First tent I had was a 3 season wild Country, it got flattened next to Caringorm during autumn in an 80mph forecast storm. Didn't want that to happen again , so got a Hillebeg Tarra. The deformation of the tent you had , dont think that is possible with the tarra the way it is designed, the only part of it that deforms is the windward porche.
Like the look of the Tarra. The Cairngorm is apparently bad for exposure to the wind. I've had some windy camps but I think I've never camped in 80mph before. Hiked up Carnethy hill in 75mph winds but never had camping gear that day. ATB Gaz
I don't know much about it, but do they not make tents out of quieter materials than that? The material sounds like applause when it blows about and not sure how you can sleep in that. There's got to be some kind of waterproof material that mutes sound and if there isn't there sure as hell should be.
Just the zips on the inner of the tent that makes that annoying noise. Can’t fault it’s strength but it’s very loud. Tents will always be loud in the wind no matter what tent a wild camper uses. Unfortunately some are louder than others of course. ATB
Watched Monty's video of this camp just before. I saw you took the suolo this time. Going to save this to watch after my tea. Already gets a thumbs up before I've even watched it just know it's going to be good👍
@@christopherlucas892 Earplugs helped with the noise. Worst part of the evening and night was the uneven ground the tent was on. Sleeping mat kept slipping down the tent to the other side. Trekker chair from thermarest helped with the sleep. ATB Gaz
Probably having delta pegs would of helped with Monty’s tent. I’ve been very happy with the MSR tent pegs that I’ve been using for the last 4 years. ATB Gaz
Good tae see the Hildebeast in it's natural environment........ Absolutely f*^%)£g mental weather! And Monty, what a trooper. 🙂 I love the Thermarest Trekker chair, I've got the 20 & the 25, boss piece of kit, weighs nowt and hardly takes-up any room in the bag. We've got 90+mph winds forecast for tonight from 9pm here in Jersey........ Mrs just asked if I'm pitching the tent in the garden....... I'm kinda tempted to. ATB
Hoping to show the chair more on a settled camp but I did really like using it on this camping trip. Just nice to have a comfy chair that I can use inside the inner of a small tent. Think England has a storm coming over the next two days. Thankfully it’s not to be as bad as storm Babet was in Scotland earlier last month. ATB Gaz
Wow - been over in Argyll doing vaguely outdoors and this weekend seemed better than the last few. Not that good for you though! Well done on the video and surviving 👍👍
Thankfully looking at the forecast more settled weather is due. Long May it continue👍 As for this trip, I enjoyed it most of the time. Pitching and taking down the tent were the hard bits. Apart from that the camp was fairly good and straightforward I guess. ATB Gaz
Yeah Craig I agree that the first few camps should be done in fair weather conditions. Hope you enjoy your camps when you get around to doing it. ATB Gaz
I'm in the market for a Hilleberg tent, I was wondering if you have tried double polling this or other HB tents in these winds as they suggest, winds are also my biggest enemy when camping, so its something I'd like to see tested, when I order what ever model I decide on, I'll be ordering extras for this purpose! Also has the quality of the tents been maintained since they moved production from Estonia to Vietnam,? awesome test though and wikid conditions guys impressive.🤟

What a camp man. Probably My favourite on 2023 looking back.
My favourite trip was the brothers ridge last May. Such an enjoyable night before the hike.

Hi Gaz, I couldn't make out what the name of the mountain was that you were pitched on. Can you spell it for me. Cheers bud.
