a quick question for you have you ever tried the Ducati street fighter V2 it’s similar money the Suzuki GSX S1000 and the same engine power but the engine sounds very similar to the Ducati panigale V4 but without quite so much power and a good size fuel tank it might worth looking at especially as the Ducati has Quick shift as standard on those bikes including the V4 and the V4S and there’s another two models in that bike
This was a bike in my list , but didn’t end up test riding it due to the premium price Ducati ask for their bikes. So it was a decision between the new MT09 and KTM890 Duke. Test Rode the MT09 and such a big improvement over the premium generation. Almost put my money down then and there , but so glad I didn’t. As soon as I rode the KTM 890 Duke I fell in love. 6 months on ,and now 10k later I find it hard to fault. I commute , tour and it’s also my weekend weapon around the twisties. Best bike I’ve ever owned. Love watching your reviews. Keep up the great work 👍
Since you’re video on the Ducati Monster they have added other options for the exhausts which are a bit more more noisy and more like a Ducati should sound like
Yes far too quiet for a Ducati bike but at least they give you the option of different exhausts which add 4 bhp to the engine and more torque to the engine it might be worth your time trying one with that option
I will say one thing you’re right about the fact that the Ducati Monster is quite expensive for the sort of bike especially when there’s other bikes that have more power and more options on the bike so Ducati needs to upgrade the bike more in order for people to consider buying it when the Ducati Monster is still more expensive than the Suzuki GSX1000
Another great review. Nice bike BUT, it is expensive. In the recent past you have reviewed the GSX-1000, the Trident, and we have seen quite a bit of the CB650R. There is also the MT09 and the Duke. In the bottom line this is one more naked bike. I don't think the extra cost worth it.
It is not expensive. Itried to configure basic Duke890 with same accessories like Monster have from stock and it costs even more. Yep, MT09 or Suzuki couldnt be beaten from price perspective but F900R, Triumph RS, Duke…they all are on very similar price level. I do not regret any penny spent on my Monster. That machine feels premium, has outstanding agility and handling, is sexy and still has some feel of an exclusivity.

S750 is a great bike but lacks low down power, where the Monster excels. The S1000 fills the torque void a bit over the S750 but I was more talking about for similar money I'd pick the S1000.
A couple things I’ve gathered from this video: -My 2017 SV650 looks more Monster than the new Monster -Would I really want to get an Italian MT09 without cruise control?
Exactly. I got my 797 in 2020 and you wouldn't believe how happy I was to still get one on them compared to this new...monster. Might not be a bad bike, not at all, but it forgot to be a proper monster. I rode it, and the whole muscle bike thing is just gone, too clean, too boring, visually as well as while riding it. And then the price? Nah. Just nah.
And as for the frame, I rode the old model when I was shopping for a new bike in 2020. It felt like a tractor. I ended up on a BMW F900R which rides like a well engineered Monster.
Hi Dan! Amazing review of a pretty awesome looking bike. Thank you so much. I was curious whether you would also consider doing reviews of older model bikes? Say mid 2000s/2010s?
Thanks! Insurance is the biggest issue. I simply can't get insured for business use on other people's bikes, unless it's on their company insurance. That said I was lucky enough to have a Suzuki bike from 2000 late last year. Look out for the review soon. 😁

@@legitrides8261 It might be how it is on that bike but it's a poor implementation of it. So many other bikes, twins too, work really well in 1st gear.
Ducati made the bike lighter and more powerful, which is cool, but at the sacrifice of looks. The previous model is much better looking and the one i would buy. If i want performance i would go for a sports bike
The problem is, all the competitors have made their naked bikes lighter and more powerful. So Ducati have to follow suit or not compete. I know for a fact had they gone the other way, I'd be reading comments like "yeah lovely looking but it's too heavy". Guaranteed.
About the price, if you want to buy a mercedes you not going to buy a vw because it is cheaper , about the sound it is stock much better ween you ride it than it sounds on RUclips Mine has a full termi and it sounds great And a suzuki is better because the handling is not so good but has more power , i don’t know how fast you ride on a public road in the uk but if you use those hp you are much much to fast
Let's be honest, even 111bhp is overkill for legal speeds on the road. I think Ducati should put louder pipes on. Look at the Aprilia Tuono 660. Sounds so good stock that I wouldn't get an aftermarket system at all.
Thank you Dan! Well, if you want good handling, the only "threat" comes from the KTM 890 Duke. Beleive me, I just love the MT09, always have, but every time I testride one, I get disappointed. Hard riding through curves makes it sway. Weight a minute! Yes, the weight makes a hugh difference. I rather have good handling, low weight and less power. Makes the ride better. So there went the GSX1000 in the bin! But that's me! Go out and test them all. Listen to your heart and convince your wallet. Be happy! No pockets in your final suit.
Agreed. I was so impressed with the 890 but not as much with the new Monster-the lumpy clatter at low speeds was odd. With a better can on it I’d like another go. The 890 seemed almost perfect power to weight ratio (if you can ignore the orange horror!). I’m a relatively new rider though so I know v little!
@@Englishbikerdan The new design of Yamahas is questionable indeed, for instance the new MT-09 looks awful in my opinion, hence I went now for the MT-07, eventhough I had a 2018 MT-09SP before, which I had to sold last year. Thank you for your response anyway!
For a Ducatista thats not à Monster, hope that Ducati gets his error and fixe it next bike but Well Nice bike but I would prefer buy the streetfighter between both models
My gosh, does that need some cans on it. It sounds really terrible. The original Monstro was a cheap(ish) bike in the context of Ducatis.. I think this new one has kinda missed the point.
Euro5 has hit once again. Was it a cheap bike though, relatively? I still thought it was fairly premium priced. In my eyes, they've made it lighter and better handling, to keep up with the competition. They've sacrificed looks, sure. Very un Italian but they are learning!
Overpriced bike like all Ducati products. The only advantage the Monster had versus the Suzuki SV (aesthetic), is gone with the removal of the old frame. I wish they sell it a lot but its competence has good value for money: MT07, CB 650, Trident, Suzuki SV...
Well, I mean the advantage it has over those bikes you mentioned are that it's faster, lighter and much better specced. However when you compare it to the same bikes in the class, MT09, KTM890 etc, it starts to even out some.
@@Englishbikerdan I haven’t ridden one but I might try and get a test ride booked. It’s so hard to overcome the sound though, at the best of times a twin sounds like 125, that’s definitely where the STRS shines though! Also looks wise I reckon the Triumph, well, triumphs. Also the quick shifter is flawless, I haven’t experienced the Ducati as I said so I’m not sure if it even has qs down or autoblipping…

The engine sounds terrible. Was there any oil in it?
Vegetable oil!
Dear Triumph, notice how fvcking easy it is to read the Ducati screen.
A couple things I’ve gathered from this video:
-My 2017 SV650 looks more Monster than the new Monster
-Would I really want to get an Italian MT09 without cruise control?
Haha, spot on about that 650!
Nah. Just nah.
@@mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm234 it’s lost it’s appeal from a visual standpoint. I cant see it as any more than a FZ09 with expensive service
@@Otterplus Totally agree. Then again, I know a few people who got a new monster and they're rwlly happy with it. Good for them. I guess.
How bad are the vibes at freeway motorway speeds again?
It felt reasonable to me.
And as for the frame, I rode the old model when I was shopping for a new bike in 2020.
It felt like a tractor. I ended up on a BMW F900R which rides like a well engineered Monster.
That euro 5 bikes are so strangled.😭
outside of Europe or California they sound great with Termi or Akra
Is it just me or have they made it look more like a Suzuki Gladius? Would still love one!
Haha, I see the resemblance!
Eek! Me too 🙈
could you try the Kawasaki ninja 1000SX?
Sadly not, I can't ride any Kawasaki machines.
@@Englishbikerdan why?
@@toldenfr All their dealers around here are owned by Kawasaki UK, and they don't allow small content creators to make videos on their bikes. There are a few non-Kwak owned dealers around the country but they are too far away for me to test ride for an hour.
@@Englishbikerdan thank you for your answer, very appreciated. Maybe you can try a new bike own by one of your followers?
@@toldenfr Sadly not due to insurance. As what I do is considered work, I'd need to buy business insurance to cover me and it's far too expensive to cover other bikes.
I don't think quick shifters are there so you can smash it from 1st to 2nd without the clutch. Some mechanical sympathy is required.
That's literally their job. My Tiger does it with no issues, as do many other bikes.
He's actually right. I have a new Monster. It likes the clutch from 1st to 2nd. After that the quickshifter can be used
@@legitrides8261 It might be how it is on that bike but it's a poor implementation of it. So many other bikes, twins too, work really well in 1st gear.
换代后舍弃了钢管编制车架之后,外观来讲并不如老款monster 821那么饱满,没有肌肉感
Ducati made the bike lighter and more powerful, which is cool, but at the sacrifice of looks. The previous model is much better looking and the one i would buy. If i want performance i would go for a sports bike
The problem is, all the competitors have made their naked bikes lighter and more powerful. So Ducati have to follow suit or not compete. I know for a fact had they gone the other way, I'd be reading comments like "yeah lovely looking but it's too heavy". Guaranteed.
Never been a fan of the urinal-shaped headlight.
😂
I gotta say, for somebody that does not care about the badge, this thing is quite overpriced if you look at the competition where I live.
well if you look at Triumph Speed Twin or St.Twin I wouldn't call the Monster overpriced...
At 18k miles that'd be the Desmo I guess
About the price, if you want to buy a mercedes you not going to buy a vw because it is cheaper , about the sound it is stock much better ween you ride it than it sounds on RUclips
Mine has a full termi and it sounds great
And a suzuki is better because the handling is not so good but has more power , i don’t know how fast you ride on a public road in the uk but if you use those hp you are much much to fast
So which do you like and buy?
@@dry509 I keep my lovely KTM 690 Duke for now😀
@@dry509 Of those two? The KTM
I guess you haven`t tried the new Mt09 then, it`s absolutely bonkers ! Especially Mt09-SP
The sex appeal is no long there❗
If I was purchasing another ducati, it would be the DesertX‼️
Oh you're talking about the bike! Phew. 😂
@@Englishbikerdan
Yep
Oh my lord.. That's a good argument right there.
Nice bike but I prefer the older one with the frame . Especially the stealth edition
Yep, many miss the trellis frame. 👍
as a 1200s owner. it just needs a v4 to make it more of a monster.
Now we're talking!
Watching videos where someone is driving on the left side of the street makes me nervous .. ;)
It's all good!
@@Englishbikerdan Most likely I will get my brandnew Ducati Monster from the dealer today. 😃
We’ve arrived to the point where an MT-07 looks better than a Ducati:D
I'd have to disagree there but taste is a personal thing. I can't stand Yamaha design language, save for the R1 and R7.
@@Englishbikerdan The new design of Yamahas is questionable indeed, for instance the new MT-09 looks awful in my opinion, hence I went now for the MT-07, eventhough I had a 2018 MT-09SP before, which I had to sold last year.
Thank you for your response anyway!
lmao, that ugly cyclop mt07
For a Ducatista thats not à Monster, hope that Ducati gets his error and fixe it next bike but Well Nice bike but I would prefer buy the streetfighter between both models
The engine noise sounds like a 125
That’s the exhaust you hear buddy… she’s being choked by cats
Seriously don’t understand how people can prefer this over the trellis... or even say its a good looker! Im shocked
If we all liked the same thing, the world would be a little dull.
….not sure about the look of this bike , might be the perellio tyres putting me off 😂👍🏻
Bloody Pirellioooo 😂
I know I prefer Micelin to
@@c.g.c2067 *too
Actually Pirelli are great tyres to be honest 👍🏻
@@c.g.c2067 I've tried a few, I really like the Diablo Rosso III, great in the wet too!
There's no pipe under the seat, it's not panigale
No it's a Monster. But the pipe is pretty close to the seat.
Is it just me, or do Ducatis sound like there's marbles in the engine? They sound terrible in my opinion.
They just need aftermarket pipes.
So that's another 2 grand!
Ride the Yamaha R7
Sound like tractor,what is that?
The exhaust is quiet, we need to hear the beautiful v2 sing. Fully silenced engines just sound weird.
It still looks good. Cheaper to service now with the longer intervals and a lot lighter. I wouldn't buy a Ducati, though.
They need to get rid of the desmo valvetrain like they did with the V4.
Third! Where's my medal? Jk 😅😂 Ride safe always mate.
It’s nice but no monster.
Is a too neat.
When you can get a brand new Street Triple RS for the same money, you’d be mad to buy this.
I would say, it rides every bit as good, better in terms of pure agility than the STRS. Just my opinion.
Sorry Dan, if you would change gear a little more it would make it a far better review in my opinion. Thanks anyway.
Why?
They should have left the monster with the trellis frame as it was and call this monstrosity an MT 09 in Italian. They even already have naked biker the streetfighter. Why why why.
The monster icon is gone now.
I don't think Ducati are trying to win over those customers that loved the old Monster.
Light is better than cute
I hate that people park all over the place front to back back to front in the UK!
I hate dog poo. Worse substance in the world. I'd ban it if I could.
All these "how dare they improve weight and performance by taking away some of the visual aesthetics that I liked" people. haha.
