Thanks for watching guys 💕What do you think is making you hold onto unworn items in your wardrobe? Do they have sentimental value? Are you worried you might regret decluttering them? Do you love them, but you just don't know how to wear them? I'd love to know!
Yes!! So many “massive decluttering” videos are just followed by a “shopping haul”, thrift or otherwise. I’d rather take my time figuring out what I actually love. I’d like to see a follow up that shows more of your system. Thanks!
Thanks for the 3 month tip- I’m a forgetful person, out of sight out of mind, so all those channels suggesting I throw clothes I like out because I haven’t worn them were really frustrating. I like your idea of getting reacquainted and feeling happy seeing clothes again
I am exactly the same!!! That is why I thought there must be more to it. Just a little bit of distance from our clothes can give a lot of clarity. Glad you like it and hope you find it helpful xox
I'm happy to put away items for years if I like them, they are in good quality, in condition and they suit me. Colours and styles go in cycles. I regret finally getting rid of my brown tops and coat just before it came back into fashion, but at least I kept my brown wool wide leg trousers and shoes. Evening and party wear items also may not get worn for a few years, beach or snow wear, useful outfits for weddings and funerals. Some items I keep as eventual replacements and some to use up wearing round the house or for dirty jobs. If you sell directly to someone the item may get a bit more wear, but too often good clothes end up being shredded for recycling or in landfill.
I have repurposed some of my wardrobe items that I haven't worn to my grandma wardrobe. I wear these pieces because I don't have to worry if my grandkids get messy with me. I also have kept this beautiful silk/linen blazer and trouser outfit that is probably over 20 years old. I may wear it to my niece's wedding.
My clothes used to take up two wardrobes full in my house, I get it 🩷 One step at a time, break it up into little pieces. Maybe one hanger every day? 🌷✨ x
Yes. I have found what works for me is to store away items that I like but am not chosing and then pull them out when the appropriate season rocks around again. I often put them into rotation again and it feels like new clothes.
The get rid of it if you haven't worn it for12 months rule is so artificial. To me it's more about considering why you haven't worn it. I like your 3 month idea
One thing I've started doing is putting together outfits with my items and creating a folder on my phone because I just get SO distracted and genuinely forget I have certain items. It's like finding a brand-new item all over again !
I choose different accessories and it makes the outfit new again, a belt, a necklace. And sometimes, I never tried other matches with what I already own and I surprise myself that I never though of that possibility. So take your time getting rid of clothes that you paid for or made yourself. The only way I donate my clothes is when it doesn't suit my age anymore or that I will never again fit in a garment. I rarely shop for clothes, I just replace undergarments. I found my style.
Great suggestion with the maybe pile- I never thought to look at it that way but it makes sense! I find that it's kind of similar to when you see your seasonal (winter or summer) clothes again after storing those away for a few months and then there are pieces in there that you'll be happy to see again and a few that you don't care for anymore. Lovely video!
Answering comment question - my solution for "sentimental value" items - I have a separate big storage box for them that I keep under the bed. Taking no wardrobe space, doesn’t interfere with everyday dressing and yet I can always reach out and recreate something, go sentimental when I feel like it 🥰
Thank you, this is useful information. A channel called the minimal mom, calls this the time will tell bin. Yes, this concept has worked for me as well.
Omg I used to watch the minimal mum all the time! This is where I must have first heard it! Thank youuuu!!! I can at least give her credit next time 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing the mind map - that’s really useful! I’ve decluttered things in the past that I’ve then regretted, so I’m much more mindful about what I declutter now. I often rest things I’ve not worn for a while but that still fit/I like/ are in good condition, and come back to them at a later date. Now I really only declutter things that are worn out ! I think I’ve got used to my style now, so I’m very considered about what I buy and think about how I’m going to wear things before I buy. I’m retired now, so don’t have to follow a dress code and that has freed me to only wear what I really love, rather than compromise on things that were kinda my style, but a watered down version that had to be practical for my job as a primary school teacher. I decluttered a lot of the work pieces that I’d bought specifically for school, but wouldn’t wear in my downtime, so that has left me with things that work for my current lifestyle. I do have lots of items in my wardrobe that are 10, 15, even 20+ years old, but because I’ve always leant towards quite timeless pieces, I can incorporate them in outfits with newer items. 😊
Love this so much. Congrats on your retirement! So true that working in a job with a dress code can cause a lot of confusion. Mindful declutters all the way. Glad you liked the mindmap! 💕🙏 x
I stopped watching this and your previous video as I found the repetitiveness of opening the closet doors and pulling out items off-putting and time waisting. Rosie 👩🦳 75 Toronto 🇨🇦

Yessss! Taking your time makes such a big difference. I talk about "going slow" with your style in my next video! xx

New subscriber - great video! Just downloaded the decision map, thank you 🙏
I think you need to just wear it and see if you like it or not and if not you can let it go

Great suggestions: thank you. Just gotta muster the energy to dive into my wardrobe where each hanger holds at least 3 items 😫

Clever ideas Emily! I'm going to try storing some clothes for 3 months and see how I go. 🤩
Thank you! Glad you liked it and I hope it works for you too 😌🙏💕 x

Good suggestion regarding a maybe pile.
You look sunny and beautiful in that yellow dress! I like the method to put away some clothes for a while and see I feel about them.
Aw. Thank you!! I wear it a lot!!!! 😆🥰🙏 Good luck with the trial separation from your clothes 😋🌟💕x
Oh I like this idea! Thanks ☺️

great video! I found myself pausing and going back to see some of the outfits you flashed past. I'd love to get a longer look at them one by one.
I'm excited to try this!
The link to the yellow dress isn't working for me 😢
Hi love. That's so strange, it's working on my end. Give it a try again and if it doesn't work I'll try something else 🥰 xx thanks for watching x
