  • In this episode of our off grid cabin build series we are installing the OSB sheathing on an exterior wall. On our first wall we installed the OSB sheathing before we raised the wall, but on this one we are installing the OSB sheathing after having raised the exterior wall. It made it a whole lot lighter!

Hey, I found your channel couple days ago and for now I love it, great project your family will grow so much from it.
Just a couple little thing, from a house builder here in Canada. I know code is not the same in the US but i’m sure sheating has to line-up with studs, you should let the first sheet pass the corner of the wall and cut it later. Also I know it’s too late but putting the headers just under the top plates is now the prefer way to build.
Other than this, you are doing incredibly well for someone that learn as he go with book.
    I’ll keep watching you 👍

Martin, next time you are in Post Falls Idaho, stop at Ziggy's lumber store and pick up 3 books. They have a wealth of information and only cost around $7.00 each. There's one book for installing drywall, one for plumbing and the best book on electrical I have read. All are well written and easy to understand. They are available at the main counter in the store. You won't be disappointed.

@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving I do ! after today's video, seeing the bathtub, I suggest you put in extra floor joist`s under the tub, so they are on 8" centers, like I saw others suggest under the parallel ( to the joist) walls, because you support one end with hangers, it should not be to difficult to do after the fact. I do not understand the weather where you are at, but I fear that the 4 pairs of vents for the crawlspace, are to close together, and will vent from one to the nearest other, and not throughout the whole space, you should research that locally. One last thing, before you fill in around the foundation I would lay down drain tile, draining downhill to daylight, I would also have done that on the inside of the foundation, but that is to late now, or your son is going to earn his keep, for a long time. Looking forward to the next video PS. PM me if you want something specific.

Use a drill to put a hole in each corner of a window instead of a screw. One less step. Also when hanging wall sheathing/osb, place 2 nails partially driven into the bottom of the rim board to support the weight of the panel while it is being installed. Pull nails when done. And lastly, see if your nail gun will bump fire. That means holding the trigger down and bumping the nose of the gun into the wood/sheathing without releasing the trigger for each nail . The gun will fire a nail each time the nose makes contact. Be VERY careful using this method because when the trigger is held down the gun will shoot nails into anything that bumps into the nose including knees, hands and workers. Only ADULTS should use this method. Keep your finger off the trigger when you are not nailing. Test this method on a scrap 2x6 to get comfortable with this style of nailing. And NEVER,NEVER,NEVER have anyone stand behind the wall that you are nailing off in case a nail misses and sails through the air and be careful on a ladder when nailing. WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN NAILING!!! Not only for ricocheted nails, but tool exhaust with oil. Very dangerous to eyes. This will speed up wall sheathing.

equipment can malfunction and damage a person much more than a piece of wood.
