    I just bought my first sailboat, a Hunter 28.5, my first sail on her was in 20-25 knot winds and 5-6ft seas with a 1 min interval, like you said in the beginning "you will give out before your boat does" I found this to be very true, my Hunter may not be a blue water craft but she can handle the rough weather better than I can lol!

    Thanks for the tour. Cecelia is a very nice boat! Pay no attention to the trolls, I get them every now and then on my 2 YT channels and I leave the stupid comments up so the trolls are exposed and make themselves look silly. If the trolls are nasty in their comments, I simply delete their comments and block them from my channels. I think your videos are very well done and continually improve. Thanks, folks!

    Hi, Happened across your channel quite by accident. I subscribed immediately! Loved the boat tour and your realistic views on sailing which translate down to your boat selection. Well Done! If I could, I would buy that very boat! Unfortunately, I am now partially disabled and have had to leave my first love of sailing and look towards a trawler for my future boat. I was probably never going to cross and ocean, but loved the romantic idea of being able to. (I crossed a couple of times already while serving in the US Navy so at least I can say I did it) Looking forward to binge watching your past episodes and your new ones. Thanks Bill S.

    So love this episode. My bride and I bought a new Hunter 36 in 1985. Totally loved this boat ‼️‼️ sailed fast when needed, and not so fast when just cruising. Sweet spot was at 12-18 degree heal. After about 8- years,we redid the interior with wood ceilings on the hull and cabin top. Made the boat warmer and quieter. We sale the coast of New England and offshore from Canada to Cape Cod. We sold her to move from Maine to Arizona in 2003. You didn't pass us on the water unless your tongue was hanging out. 🙂 LOL There is a much bigger story here, yet Hunters are great boats ‼️✨🌊⛵️🏝👙🌞🍷✨

    I'm new to the channel but have you done a video on the various costs associated with living on a boat? Things like upkeep budget, mooring fees, etc.
    I used to have a 1982 NACRA 5.8 catamaran (bought it new and named it 'Little Deuce Sloop' after the Beach Boys song) I raced out of Long Beach, CA (aka Hurricane Alley) and Dana Point. In the 70's I learned to sail at the OCC Sailing Center in Newport where I sailed on everything from the Sabot, and Lido 14, up to my favorite, the 30' Shields (keel racing sloop).
    I live in the middle of the desert in SW Utah, weird since I thought I'd retire to someplace by the water like Washington State, not Washington, UT.
    Watching your videos brought back that feeling of being on the water, the quietness of being pushed by the wind and all you hear is the water rushing by the hull and the chiming of the rigging.

    • @SailAwayVlog
      @SailAwayVlog  3 года назад +1

    FYI youd Be smart to move at least one battery up out on the bilge area it you start taking water and it over takes the pumps and shorts battery's below the cabin sole your screwed but if your pump battery's are above the bilge level you can still run pumps and give yourself a chance , check out sailing zingaro it just happened to him , he almost lost the boat the water flow overpowered the pumps and drowned his batteries and he lost all his pumps , luckily rescues got to him and passed him some gas powered pumps they save the boat

    i appreciate what you are saying.. i like all the boats; cats included .. i think the "tank" boats with a full keel are just easier to live with (less worry). weather windows dont really matter so much.. rudder protection which for a world cruiser is paramount.. . production boats mean a little more awareness which is off set with more performance.. after a while performance wont matter so much..

    I like production boats too. I'm looking at Catalinas and Hunters. Your pride and confidence in your boat are perfect to allay a lot of concerns arising, I think, from a lack of familiarity with production boats. Your video bridges that gap in knowledge. In mast furling and an electric winch sure make sail handling easier. Thanks

    Don't use roach spray. Get some Combat Roach Bait Stations, or even better, Advion Roach Gel Bait, that stuff is magic. You put on little pieces of cardboard and tuck under cabinets and out of the way areas where you don't have to worry about kids or dogs getting at it. It attracts the roaches, they bring it back to their nest and it then kills a bunch of the other roaches. I tried it for the first time last year. Living in new housing that is surrounded by undeveloped land meant roaches came through my yard like Los Angeles freeway traffic. That is until I put out the bait. I used to find sometimes dozens of roaches outside my front and back doors or garage floor. Now I hardly ever see one and the ones I do come across are dead or dying.

    • @SailAwayVlog
      @SailAwayVlog  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Luckily we've never had to use the roach spray, we've just had that can for years. We also have some of the powder, which is used sorta like the gel, but keep your fingers crossed our luck holds.

    Hunters has come a long way, some of their late 70's -80's did Not age well.
    I tried to get project atticus to at least look at a more modern design with , wide transom, swim platform and probably twin aft double cabins. I had use of a 42'-1994 Jenneau in ‘96 and it was such an easy boat to live with , similar to you Hunter.
    The sailing speed of the modern designs is 25% or more that the older designs too....
    The one thing I don’t get is so many people have Jerry cans on side decks ..... is there no storage anywhere else?
    Nice tour guys great livable boat! , cheers Warren

    • @SailAwayVlog
      @SailAwayVlog  3 года назад

      Thanks! We sure like her. I think some folks are missing out as well, but to each his own. As for the jerry cans, generally we (and others) don't like storing them in hatches in case one should leak or break. Plus the deeper hatches usually have a lot of stuff that comes in and out a lot, so the cans would be in the way. Thanks for watching!

    Someone on another channel picked up a load of Containers with lids of dry useful sizes, very cheap from IKEA. You like Spicy Sauces ? Have you tried Encona West Indian Hot Pepper Sauce? It’s nice even on Cheese Sandwiches, in Cup of Soups, Noodles, warming up Winter Stews, and it’s bad news when I run Out. Love the Galley by the way, linear ones for me, have been really bad news even when strapped in. Those Companionway Stairs, are the sort of angle disabled me has to have to use safely, with secure handholds both sides, and waist height ish handholds to both port and starboard to and from the Companionway down below. 15 out of 10 so far. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟

    You're talking about the same sailing strategies that people used thousands of years ago. Sailing with the seasonal winds. Following the currents. Knowing which way to go which time of the year. They did those things before we had goes and weather channels. They built up data from captains logs and personal experience.

    • @SailAwayVlog
      @SailAwayVlog  2 года назад

      Yep, very true. Plus now we layer on the benefit of being able to foresee bad weather very reliably when it’s just a few days out particularly. Not to mention hurricane tracking. There’s a wealth of knowledge available for good decision making.

    Really amazes me how many of these sailing video's are on youtube with couples and families sailing away on their dream and monetizing it. I remember when my wife and I were only 20 years old and restored an old sailboat what it took both in time and in finances. We did not have this opportunity of the internet to help finance our dream. It took good old fashion hard work during the day as my wife waited on tables and I would do manual labor on other people's boat just so we could work on ours at night. It took 4 years working in this manner before we completed our boat and start our circumnavigation. Then every port we landed at we would have to get jobs just to get to the next. That was 40 years ago and to this day we still live aboard. And no, we still do not have a youtube channel asking others to help pay.

    • @SailAwayVlog
      @SailAwayVlog  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching! That's a great way to approach this lifestyle and many cruisers still do that. Or they save most everything they need beforehand. That said, I think your notion of what it takes to have a successful RUclips channel is very incorrect. It also sounds like you know very little about our personal story. There are literally thousands of people out here living the cruising life and only a very small percentage make videos about it. Among those, most do it just for fun and so their families and friends can see what they're up to (which is why we started our channel as well). A much much smaller percentage of channels have developed any appreciable viewership. Our videos (like most) are 100% free to watch. We're happy to say we have Patreons who appreciate our work, but our videos never ask for people to "give us money". I (Eric) still work full time aboard the boat in the same career I had before we left land as an audiobook narrator. Loren puts in countless hours to construct quality, entertaining videos that people enjoy watching (doing this well takes a LOT of work to learn and execute...have you tried it?), which is finally, after 4 years of doing this, making us a little bit of money. So I guess my point is - we and other channels like us are usually still working other jobs remotely or on land and ALSO putting in a ton of work to make quality FREE videos for people to enjoy...and most are still making very little or nothing from it. So while the way you managed this life is fine and admirable, you clearly don't know enough about what it requires to do it the way we do it to criticize it or suggest we're doing it "wrong". Cheers!

    The larger Hunters are as you say… so blue water boats... but I'm convinced only non sailors ever really say a boat isn't blue water.
