Cancel Culture in science is a strange thing. It seems okay to rename the scholarship, but it is important to learn about where and how the field developed... We are all adults who can deal with challenging material. I really hope you continue this series! I used the iris dataset to learn clustering, and have seen it in pretty much every statistics textbook I have, but I didn't know its connection to Fisher. In particular, I would love to learn about the major Statisticians who developed the field, or something like a survey of its history.

Cancel culture is usually bad because it lacks nuance and perspective. The very name "eugenics" will be forever stigmatized, even though its central idea - that of the betterment of genetic potential will become more and more relevant with improvements in technology. The word will be canceled, the idea will prevail. For better, for worse.

Words and names are themselves interesting in their own right. "Racist", "cancel culture", and "eugenics" are three names that themselves carry or include ... additional meanings or associations.
"War on Christmas" was a name that first brought this to my attention a few years ago; it is a name for something that may or may not exist, but which people were very vocal and concerned about. Once there is a name, we often presume that the name has a referent, that it names _SOMEthing_. And some names are sort of "trigger" names, that set people off (on both sides of the political spectrum).
As the other commenter said, nuance and perspective are often lacking.
There is not a name-free zone (a "safe space" I suppose) where people can communicate, transact and interact without using names and triggering each other ("abortion", "freedom", "climate change", "COVID", "racism", "Jesus", "Trump", "Hillary", etc.).
Thanks Alex for your comment, sorry if I hijacked it. 🙂

Should we rename F-statistics/distribution as well?

Undoubtedly all kinds of racism should be condemned, but overall Fisher's contribution to humanity outweighs his eugenics.
