As legions of birds fall from New Delhi's skies and the city smolders with social unrest, two brothers race to save one of the casualties: a majestic black kite, a bird of prey essential to their city's ecosystem.
Release date: 14 October 2022 (UK)
    Director: Shaunak Sen
Editors: Vedant Joshi, Charlotte Munch Bengtsen
Cast: Nadeem Shehzad, Mohammad Saud, Salik Rehman
All That Breathes, directed by Shaunak Sen follows two brothers who run a bird hospital dedicated to rescuing injured black kites, a staple in the skies of New Delhi, India.
In one of the world’s most populated cities, where cows, rats, monkeys, frogs, and hogs jostle cheek-by-jowl with people, the “Kite Brothers” care for thousands of these mesmerizing creatures that drop daily from New Delhi’s smog-choked skies.
As environmental toxicity and civil unrest escalate, the relationship between this family and the neglected kites forms a poetic chronicle of the city’s collapsing ecology and deepening social fault lines.

‘.....deliciously disregardful of your designs’, the alliteration!
Sen’s a poet himself and hence the poetry in the film that you talk about, both literally and in its images.

Great interview and a lovely background design - following Sucharita's grey and Shaunak's green. It shows you put in a lot of thought to make the interview holistic😊

So I've got two things to say:
    1. Congratulations Shaunak for all the nominations and recognition that you and your film is getting right now. And best of luck for the Oscars. As Sucharita has said, we all are rooting for you brother.
    2. Thank you Sucharita for doing this interview. It's hard to explain but I hope understand that how such interviews are nothing but little treasure boxes for any beginners who want to dive into the intense world of storytelling.
Thank you to both of you.

Thank you so much Sucharita for the wonderful interview 🙏 it gave so much context, background and depth to the story and film making. I will definitely come back and watch the interview again after viewing the film. It was also my first RUclips live stream session I joined and it was a great experience to hear your thoughts while seeing the interview

Technically, Shaunak Sen should take a picture with Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Anurag Basu or anyone associated with ‘Kites’. Although Hawk is also a bird of prey so Ethan Hawke is ok too.

I watched this in DIFF, while there was QnA, I think, what was missing was Shaunak's presence. This video felt like that missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle which after fitting in, gives a sense of satisfaction :)

Shaunak has real chance to win. But will have tough competition from all the beauty and bloodshed i.e. an absolute masterpiece. Tough competition but these two are frontrumners all that breathes and all the beauty and bloodshed. I think all that breathes can win bafta bcz British critics have absolute loved his film. Not sure about oscar though bcz it has american bias like last year writing with fire lost to summer of saul based on black history. Great interview and insight though

Didn't want to make a sweet film about nice people doing good things.
    Anti-goalposts
The people of Delhi are 'sensorially weighed down by this grey, opaque [miasma] coating your life'.
The picture postcard of Delhi is this dystopic greyness that's laminating your life.
The grubby, industrial, tiny, cramped, dank basement devoid of natural light is inherently cinematic due to the salient bipolarity of that space that's so industrially decayed while, at the same time you have these monumental birds fluttering past. The dense, mise en scene has qualities of Tarkovsky.
You can see Sen has the worplay down to pat after a bajillion interviews, although he does slip into pompous territory with the colloquial *and* vernacular, tiny *and* cramped, grey coating your life *and* dystopic greyness laminating it. It's like he thinks of a better articulation of what was previously said and goes ahead and verbalises anyway.
Well done to him and the 'directorial team'. I wish we could see some kind of collaboration between his team and the brain behind Joyland. Two different types of cinema, I wonder what the twain would produce. It's unlikely though, given that guy's on the wrong side of the border.
