Well I am apologizing for what i am about to say right now. I have a theory and it is dark. At the ending, Bhootnath actually got salvation and the child got sad. He may have some mental disorder from that incident. Actually so sad that he hallucinated Bhootnath coming back to him. It is kind of clear that Bhootnath told him not to tell anyone that he came back in the end. And the child will live rest of his live with that hallucination.
I am sorry for this, it just that ran into my mind and I wanted to share.
