    Thank you for your kind reply. I am a 38 yr semi retired tech/shop owner living now in the Philippines. We have reopened our auto repair shop here after seeing huge need and lack of knowledge here on the newer systems. Your videos helped me greatly learning about key transponders. And now CVT ,that I see is being sold by Nissan here in the Phils. Thank you so much for your efforts in making your wonderful videos.

    Fantastic logic on your part. The TCM uses the pressure sensors (primary and secondary) to know if there's a slip. Please, take a peek at our other videos in this series "CVT Transmission". Go to our channel "ADPTraining" and see the PLAYLIST. One of our videos cover a little more about pressure sensors. There'll be a future video on this subject. Each pulley also has a speed sensor. TCM uses all these to work the pulleys. Press. sensors are used to detect a slipping belt. Thanks for posting.

      Anything on P0841 code? I have this on rogue 2015. Car works perfectly fine at lower speed however going to highway speed it would jump RPM. It is little better after two flush where after initial 5/10 min of rpm jumping, it won’t do it any more

    I really enjoyed this video. I love the CVT in our 2008 Nissan Rogue. We already have 120K miles, we bought it used, and it was a rental. Nothing more than a CVT fluid change has been required thus far. I hope CVT technology continues to advance, IMHO it is the most ideal transmission..great for going fast and for getting peak economy.

    Thanks, my car does not have the right fluid it needs a thicker ns-2 fluid but when my car broke down the power output was in at a stop light, car stumbles then gives it power, (took a turn) then i gave it gas it had power for a little then power was completely cut off and i had to pull on to a shoulder. I had burning smell beforehand and the cvt was quite low on fluid. I had to get replaced but like i said wrong one so i need to buy new fluid and drain the replaced incorrect fluid. There arent many thing that can stop a cvt vehicle from moving entirely one of few mechanical issues my bet is something in the valve body, the fluid(as its responsible for the transmissions capacity for functioning), electronically could be the tcm, wiring harness that attaches to the cvt and to the tcm or the power. My codes that i will say dont seem likely to be the problem but electrical symptoms are p0725,p0836, p1701.
    Root codes being
    And the same p0744 torque converter circuit intermittent
    p0744 a/t torque converter clutch solenoid valve function
    Abs c1109 vehicle battery voltage abnormal.
    The battery light isnt on.

      Same with mine but my car broke down and doesnt move idk if it just needs a proper fluid change as it did burn the fluid down to bone dry pretty much or if it may need a valve body replacement which the autozone test performed before my car broke down said i should do that.

    I can assume there would be great damage to the pulleys if the steel belt were to start to slip due to lack of clamping force. Does the computer have a way of sensing this? to prevent this damage. Like ABS speed sensors, or the like?

    You can't use the same scooter technology on cars. It has nothing to do with money. It has to do with torque, matching engine power to the wheels. It has to do with economy too. The other alternative is to put more gears into an automatic. Mercedes developed the 1st 7 speed automatic and now working on a 9 speed auto. That's great but more costly. CVTs are a great cost effective answer to matching torque to power the tires. Thanks.

  • @ADPTraining
    @ADPTraining  12 лет назад

    Thanks, the CVT videos will become a 30+ videos SERIES, so stay tuned. Yes, it is a cost effective transmission to make and maintain. The high costs of rebuilding is associated with the fact that few techs know how to work on them. It is very simple to work on them, but it's a new technology. Thanks for sharing and supporting.

  • @ADPTraining

    Not the voltmeter. TO test the stepper motor you need a stepper controller module or circuit. These units don't operate on voltage alone, they work on pulses, similar to robotics.

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  28 дней назад

      I had a customer with this issue and I did this. The stepper motor is tied to a ratio control valve on top of the valve body. In my case, you get code P1778 and the car performed like it was stuck in gear. It can get stuck in any gear ratio. I replaced the valve body (which includes a new stepper motor). The ratio control valve was stuck on mine, so it didn't allow the stepper motor to move and do what it needed to do (change the ratio in order to "shift gears").
      If your car is stuck in that one ratio and isn't just sometimes getting stuck, then my best guess at solutions are:
      A) Take the valve body off and see if it is the motor or the ratio control valve next to it. The valve is spring loaded. If you are able to push the rod for that valve in and have it spring back, then my guess would be that it is the stepper motor and you could just replace it.
      B) If it is the ratio control valve, then there is a chance you could disassemble it and see if you could get it to move freely. I couldn't find the parts online to replace the parts for the ratio control valve, but if anyone knows of a source, I'd like to have that.
      C) You can buy a whole different valve body, which includes the stepper motor and ratio control valve. The reason I did this is because I figured a car with 120K miles probably could benefit from a remanufactured valve body, where the solenoids and other valves had been cleaned and tested and replaced with other parts that were operating at spec.
      Afterwards problem solved.

    Scooters and the like use this technology,and it's nothing new.We had these transmissions on our snowmobiles back in the 60's.If you kept the engine aligned,and didn't have any oil leaks,the belt (looked like an overgrown fan belt)would last the whole season,running as hard as you could.If you took it easy and sprayed belt dressing on it once and a while,you could get 2 seasons easily.Belt cost:$25.00.Some sleds you could change the belt in 15 min.Now, too complex so they can make money, money!

      Yeah no the belt is actually built stupid tough because they new that becoming a failure point would have discredited them as a car company like wholesale. So they went with other failure points. Also lying about the cvt fluid service intervals so that they can justify charging crazy sky high prices to replace the transmission when it inevitably goes super bad because its not being serviced correctly as in on a 25k or 30k miles basis. The worst these cvt’s can get is yes a complete snap of the belt but i have not read one instance of that happening. They could probably go with a rubber polymer belt and make it have an easy access point to replace it if it snaps and use probably the same fluid and the car would be just as if not more reliable with less issues the only thing would be the belt which they could produce or other companies could make after market and engineer them to prevent slippage a WHOLE LOT MORE and with easy access point and an engineered easy way to install even from home this could probably be the perfect transmission.
