    Both athletes were really good sports, not trying to prove a point. Heather could have programmed a 10k and Jamie could have brought out the barbell. I was most impressed that Heather managed to beat Jamie on a 2k row! Kudos - 7 minutes is a Crossfit time domain!

      first: crossfit def has workouts thats way longer than 7 minutes.
      second: rowing favors bigger and longer athletes. if they both have similar aerobic capacity, the taller would have a bigger advantage.

    It's just wonderful that Heather endured this, as I think that it was not that difficult to guess the outcome. But it was fun to watch; thank you Heather! The things that did surprise me were pull-ups, where Heather's performance was just superb, given that she hadn't been training it, and ski erg, where I would've expected her to perform a bit better, but I guess that the latter was too much on the sprint side.
    Also, the transition race was a nice touch! Jamie putting shoes on before her helmet was certainly something that a triathlete would never do, given the no bike touching without helmet rule.

      Wall Walks are great. They are generally considered to be a "scaled" movement in CrossFit so when it showed up in the Open they wrecked a lot of the pros because they don't do them. Wall walks are a good safe way to get the same stimulus you would get from handstand pushups or handstand walks but without the risks of those movements.

    Looking through these comments, and am ecstatic I see so many positive comments (most likely from endurance athletes) about this comparison, and giving the ladies kudos on their efforts. Too often, when CF is compared to another sport in a video, the fans of "the other sport" just deride CF without acknowledging the competitiveness it actually offers their respective sport.

I feel like this is a really good test of both endurance in terms of breathing capacity and max strength in one workout.

    I like crossfit after a fashion. I'm all for the exercises just not the timed aspect - by making it a race like event you ruin it. I would happily train all the crossfit workouts but instead of "as many as I can In a certain time" work till failure with strict (correct) form for as long as it takes.

    • @TacticallyFitOfficial
      @TacticallyFitOfficial 3 года назад +2

      You misunderstand the purpose of the timer. Look up: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Research moving large loads long distances quickly. Understand the basic equation in physics for work.

    • @ice4142
      @ice4142 3 года назад +1

      @@TacticallyFitOfficial I assume A C4th comments is a reference to the well documented cases of amateur crossfit athletes sacrificing technique and form to go faster resulting in injury. You are correct the doing work more quickly involves more power. It is important to maintain proper technique. The professional crossfit athletes generally don't suffer from this problem (at least with barbell movements) but they are professional after all.

    So funny, Jaime "hurt her shoulder, so no swimming" but they walk up on her doing cleans, then they do bodyweight shoulder presses, rowing and pull-ups... Sounds like someone was scared of the fact that she can't swim for shit.
    This challenge also suited the crossfitter, in that the run was a mile and everything endurance based was too short to actually be a test of endurance at all. It was a test of who is better at crossfit; a crossfitter or a triathlete/decathlete and frankly, Heather put up a better showing, relatively speaking, than Jaime.
    How about next time the run is at least a 10k, you swim a couple miles and do a long, hilly bike ride?

      guessing they didn't want to have to leave the gym to complete the game of HORSE. It seems like you are clearly biased towards the distance events, but I assure you that Jamie can swim very well.
      You know they each got to pick the events right? Jamie could've picked something technical like a barbell lift or an exercise on the rings. Maybe you should rewatch the video, Jamie clearly didn't want to embarrass her to she cruised on the row and run so it wasn't a clean sweep.
      Jamie could run 10k, swim a few miles, and bike hills a heck of a lot easier than Heather could C&J 205 lbs....or even 105 lbs.

      according to University of Essex School of Sport (published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport) runners really do work about 30 percent harder on the curved, non-motorized treadmills. The runners perceived they were working an average of 27 percent harder when they ran on the curved treadmill, and physiologically, their symptoms matched: They consumed an average of 32 percent more oxygen and had 16 percent higher heart rates, 2.5 percent higher running cadence, and 38 percent worse running economy

    Triathlete vs crossfitter indoors on a bunch of anaerobic gym activities? It says a lot about how poor crossfit is that it wasn't HORSE to 0 in a bunch of activities made for crossfit. Every other activity should have been at minimum 30-minute endurance activities. Even a Sprint Triathlon contains more endurance than most people can handle without specific endurance training.

    • @wleng
      @wleng 3 года назад

      Don’t think you realised how basic those movements are in CrossFit terms? They are mainly beginner level stuff, not exactly the type of stuff that would showcase Jamie’s prowess

    • @Shevock
      @Shevock 3 года назад

      @@wleng You miss the point. CrossFit is an anaerobic hobby. Triathlon (even Sprints) are an aerobic activity. All of the activities done in this video are anaerobic, and none were aerobic. It has nothing to do with the complexity or simplicity of activity. Do the same things, just each one for an hour, and turn them into aerobic activities, then you will be on endurance athletes ground. Or take a classic crossfit workout and turn it into an aerobic activity and it will be won by the triathlete. E.g., the Murph might become: 13 mile run, 2000 supported pull ups, 4000 low weight chest presses, 5000 low weight leg presses, 13 mile run.

    • @wleng
      @wleng 3 года назад +4

      @@Shevock I was a triathlete before I started CrossFit so I am pretty sure I understand both sports well. Jamie loss the 1km run, 2km row and the transition. Neither 1km run nor 2km row are anaerobic activities and she was never going to win the transition. Even then she barely loss in the run or row. I am pretty sure a triathlete is going to be better than a CF athlete in any runs short of a sprint! Also, CF is not exclusively an anaerobic activities. When we test for strength or sprints, then yes they are anaerobic. Maybe you need to check what an anaerobic activity is. I think you might mean longer aerobic events. In any case, a CF athlete is going to easily win the extended Murph example you gave there. A triathlete can’t do that many pull ups and push ups full stop.

    • @wleng

      Also I don’t think you actually know what a CF Games athlete like Jamie does at the CF Games lol. A sprint triathlon? Lol I don’t think any Games athlete would even blink at that. Sure they won’t be as fast as Heather but she can’t deadlift 190-200kg either can she.
