- I am giving you some tips so you don't have any accidents at all. I had a couple just because it is difficult to get used to a new system. And those mistakes may be embarrasing!

Hi Nana, I recommend it because except for the day you have to empty it, you just don't think about it for 4, 5 or 6 days!!! Today I was at a parking lot at a visitor center and I thought of using their bathrooms but there was a long line to the bathroom. So I just put my window covers up and used my own, clean toilet. It is a real luxury to be able to do that! 😉

I bought a porta potty very much like this one before I took my trip back from Reno NV to The Irish Hills in
MI . I bought the RV chemical and RV TP at Walmart. My trip was during covid, 2020, so I did not want to use public facilities, this potty solved all my fears . I clean mine all over with Clorox wipes. 💞🐢
Exactly!!! Clorox wipes do the job fantastically! And I agree, I'm so happy I don't need to use those vault toilets at trail heads or campgrounds, they always smell and are usually full of flies. Having my own toilet I save myself that bad moment. I can totally understand your relief during 2020!!! Congrats!!!

Good video. You make a number of good suggestions. More than hating my cassette porta potty.. I hate porta-johns like those used as rentals at outdoor events, construction sites. Much rather use my own thetford cassette. Never have seen those enzyme packets before. I just normally pour a little of the liquid enzymes in the water tank. But I prefer your idea of spraying the disinfectant instead of using the water tank... Other than what you have shown I would spray & wipe the dump pipe & cap
before I reassemble it.
As to traveling in high mountains ...YES the pressure can cause leaks. There is a popular RUclipsr that had his Explode and spray all over his van! GROSS ... so empty it before going up elevation. Leave the holding tank opened a slight crack to account for pressure . Use a strong air freshener. i will look for the link to his video. Thanks for sharing this necessary info.
Hi Judy, and yes!!!!!!! Those porta potties at sport events are disgusting. Having our own private toilet is a luxury I highly appreciate!
I get my enzymes at Walmart, in the RV section. I prefer lavender because any citric aroma is very similar to stale urine, I don't know, weird associations my nose makes!

Hi Virginia!!! I used to do the same until I realized I was working for the toilet!!! Then I came up with a couple of hacks but it's way easier with the cleaner! Or, sometimes, at night, if I brush my teeth, I pour the little cup of water in the toilet and leave it there until the morning. It gets slightly minty. 🤣😊
After you showed me your toilet in your van it convinced me to get one. I really loved how compact it was and that cute little cover you have on it is a good way to hide it.

I had fun creating that thumbnail, it was not easy to see my own head popping out of a toilet! 🤣🤣🤣 just remember this is the 345, there is a slightly higher one in case you have knee issues. I wanted that one but I'm glad I got the smaller one, it gives me more headroom and it's not as heavy 😊

@@mygypsyadventure3610 please remember that if you get that one you will need to empty it every 4 to 6 days anyway (otherwise it will get a little too heavy)
And: you may want to position it closer to the sliding door so you have more headroom, otherwise you will bump your head every time!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Leilani! I feel like skipping every time I empty the toilet because I know I can forget about it for 5 or 6 days!!! Yayyy
As for the cover: I bought a 20 inch round fabric ottoman pouf at TJMaxx but you know how they are, you never find the same thing twice there!
I cut open the bottom of it, discarded the filling in a trash bag and attached a cushion insert inside so I can sit on top and use it as a little stool if needed.
I am giving you a couple of links for square poufs just as inspiration. You will need to check the dimensions of the toilet you choose and then buy the cover accordingly.

I'm not the only one who had to psych myself up dump it 🤣🤣🤣. And I don't use the flush system either. I'd rather pee be the liquid. I had to track down some real chemicals though because "natural" doesn't get it for me. Urine neutralizes formaldehyde so if you only use a little bit, an ounce or two with a liter of water in the holding tank, and fill the rest with pee, especially morning pee, you won't be dumping an excess of chemicals toxic to the environment because it's such a concentrated mess.
That is why I use enzymes and I pour it in toilets, at least it will end up in a processing plant somewhere. Enzymes are a good thing.
When I go number 2 - I always pee too. Kind of hard not to. And you look really pretty. Looks like your losing weight. Be safe. ❤️❤️

Do you not rinse the tank after you empty it? I wondered about that because it would mean I would have to carry even more water.
No I don't. The enzymes do a great job at decomposing everything and eliminating smells. It's just emptying it and adding the next packet of enzymes. There's no smell at all.
I don't use toilet paper either, just the wipes that I dispose off of in the little basket. So, everything in the toilet is digested by the enzymes. Only once I did rinse it but I did not notice any advantage by doing so, the results were the same. 😉
I wash it every time. Takes a minute. Refill with chemicals.

Hi CC, I don't use toilet paper because it is too bulky. New rolls take a lot of space and used paper does too. I get wipes at the baby section at Walmart. My favorite is unscented "Parent's choice". And it gives me a cleaner feel. Then I place the wipes in my little basket with lid that I find soooooo helpful, lined with a tiny plastic bag that keeps me free of smells and messes. Whatever you put in it will take space and you will have to go empty it more frequently. I empty mine every 4 or 5 days and I don't want to do it more frequently 🤣 besides paper or wet wipes (which is what I use since showers are a luxury out here and toilet paper rolls take too much space in my van) they could clog the toilet and that is not a sweet dream of mine! 🤣🤣🤣
@@Manyroadsnorules your enzymes destroy the paper( completely dissolve the paper, actually) So if I dump every 5 days, your saying if I did it your way I could go every six days ( hypothetically?) less paper and less water?? For the luxury, I'll just dump every 5 days and use it the way it was designed. Seems too minuscule to change my style after 76 years. Been using my thetford for 28 years. Most people don't like their bodily fluids. Get used to it. It's yours! lol.

Hi, that is a great question! You made me realize I didn't include that important detail in that video! Thank you! I will make a new video, hopefully better.
To your question: since it is so important to be clean when you live in a small space with a more limited access to showers, every step has to help keep us clean. I find toilet paper really inconvenient for several reasons: when it is new, it takes a lot of room in your vehicle and when you use it, it doesn't really clean you. So I use unscented moist swipes I got from Walmart. They are a great substitute for daily showers too! And, I have a tiny este basket that works at keeping those out os sight until I dispuse with them. Those are not flushable so I can't use them in this toilet because I will then empty this toilet in a regular one and I will probably be creating a problem for that other toilet. Too messy. Besides, anything you put in this toilet takes room in its little tank. I'd rather just use it for just 1 and 2 so I only have to empty it every 4 or 5 days and not more frequently. There's a larger capacity toilet but that is too heavy for me to carry and it is larger, it takes more room in the vehicle.

Her porta potty is the Thetford 365. There are many different companies that have Cassette Toilets. As she said some are higher and more comfortable if a person has problems with their knees.

I checked out some more videos and saw someone dumping into a pipe into the ground. That was helpful. I think you said something about connecting to a hose?

Thetford had engineers, consumers and wives research this entire toilet function. Use it the way it was designed you’ll find your own bodily fluids are no big deal. Put your enzymes in, cup or two of water, fill your top reserve tank and go. You now have the luxury of going to the toilet ( without a line to stand in) anytime you desire. It’ll last several days and if you need to go at 2 a.m. you don’t have to worry about dumping a plastic bag. Use toilet paper. It’s really no big deal. The benefits far outweigh the downsides. Been using this thetford for 28 years . Plastic luggable loo’s no thanks.

I put the enzymes in the tank, I don't use the flushing tank (it only adds more volume therfore you have to empty more frequently) and I put my words in a bag for later disposal so, again, I don't add volume. Those engineers are not boondockers! 🤣🤣🤣
