Really appreciate talking about the "toilet situation" in a straightforward way.
I put Purex Crystals in my Stansport toilet. I put my bag in, 1 cup of horse bedding pellets, then i sprinkle some Purex Crystals on top. Then use it . I only add pellets after each use. Keeps it smelling fresh! I throw the bag away every morning.
I've never camp in my life, but I've noticed I've been watching a lot of vanlife for the last 4 years. It is very interesting to me, because I keep telling myself when I retire from my job this is what I am planning to do. Just get me a camper van and just go across the U.S. Toilet is my biggest thing I gotta have, especially for night time.
I understand wanting a toilet for the convenience, especially to use at night or if you are sick, but, if you’re out in the middle of nowhere, I wouldn’t have driven out MILES to get to a restroom, I would have just dug a whole and gone there.
I like the price of Trobolo, the fact that the separator is all round curves, therefore easy to clean and that it's designed in a way less likely to get poop on it. I have the Trelino toilet, which is very very similar, but much more expensive. I don't like about Trobolo that it is only small, while the Trelino comes in a regular size as well. We are a couple living in the RV and we are using the Trelino for 100% of the time, and the 2.5 gallon pee tank of the Trelino is a must. I'm using corn starch bags for the poop(from amazon), which are plenty resilient, but I am unsure about how compostable they are. We are disposing of those poop bags in public large trash bin that you can find usually around business, and we are double bagging to prevent the smell from disturbing the people who use the same trash bins. Even so, it's better to choose bins that are not covered with the lid (they're open) so that the smell doesn't accumulate inside and hit the next person disposing of trash.
The smell of tying up the poop bag is manageable: it can only be done outdoor, and its better with a breeze around or you'd better be quick about it. One more note: most of the compostable toilet have small poop openings and poop will get on it, and will require cleaning each time you use it. The Trelino and even more likely this Trobolo are quite good in this regard.

5 gallon bucket with toilet seat is the way to go! I keep mine lined with a bag full of TP, wet wipes, and disinfectant wipes. It's cheap, clean, and simple.
I went with Trelino, because it is super easy to clean.
I definitely like the height adjustment option. We had a cassette toilet aka porta potti 😂😂 for our sailboat ⛵️ and it was so low. Worked space wise, but not real convenient to use. I will miss this unfinished van once it’s done. Have a fabulous day Tory 🚽 😃

I have a loo seat on a tubular chrome frame. I think it's for the elderly or infirm, it's large and sturdy. A handful of pine pellets, or wood shavings, or soil in a plastic bag takes care of business and can be disposed of at the next convenient point. The seat folds for easy storage and is used as an outdoor seat when parked.
I have been living in my car for 3 months. I am thankful for this bathroom location is open all night, i get there at 5am take care of my business.. if I'm not at at area i have a 24oz container with a lid.. and i have a Rubbermaid small trash can for emergency or no bathroom around.
One of the grosses things to do. But like you said most bathrooms are disgusting I'd rather take care of business in my car. It's a hard life living in your car.

Hello Tory, once you start to design your living space the top priority will be the stink, so say you incorporate your shower with a water-tight seal type of seat or Mimi bench, all you need is standing room only well then once you lift the vinyl DYI thingy where you can store and use your Toilet with a little hidden vent just to the side for stink and conditions. a really effective odor/waste treatment for RV. toilets is a brand called CAMCO TST MAX.......drop in packets. really works.

We use Citric acid it works really good and I brewer the smell of it over vinegar

I have a handicap toilet it’s adjustable in, which is perfect. It also takes a little bag for trash. This is perfect. Every time I go I change the bag. I put it into a big garbage can with a bigger bag heavy duty. This works really well for me I’m a guy so I pee in a bucket with a lid with stuff in it so it doesn’t smell. I don’t about once a week, the pellets work really well for the bucket. I love what you do. I hope you have the best day ever. Keep up the great work.

Have you tried toilet stamps? I love using them on our toilets at home to keep the smell fresh, the ones we get are lysol I think, so you might find some that match the scent of your cleaner

can confirm we love our envirnment in nz. there are over 300 camp grounds with amenities in nz. if you camp somewhere else in 2025 you are required to have a toilet that can hold 3 litres per person. so consider the size including friends n family/ number of beds. yes you need to pass a certification but theres cheap to not so cheap options. ive been waiting for ya pooper product review and its been super helpful. vinegar is also a natural cleaner but yes ya going to have that smell. i still want to figure out how i can grow an ornamental lemon tree...they grow better with a little #1.

The "Pee Purse" got me laughing but to be honest...sounds like a great idea for concealing carrying a Pee jug in a public setting. Personally...I haven't addressed my toilet options in my build but I do not want a black ever. This looks like an affordable option to handle the tasks but I think I would still add a vent hose and 12 volt inline fan if I bought this product for my application. Good job...God Bless...Stay safe

I’ve been researching van life. I really really considered it. I decided I’m gonna buy undeveloped land and go the homesteading route instead. Still completely off grid just a little different.
I have never been more fascinated by a lecture on going No. 1 & 2. When I was a kid, we had a metal bucket with toilet seat and lid for our pop-up tent trailer.

The two compartments inside a box is a nice option. The plastic bottoms of those portable toilets can crack due to heat, friction of sliding around, and weight. Don't ask me how I know lol.

There is a RUclipsr (Jarrod Tocci) who built an electric incinerator toilet into his van. It uses a lot of power, and cost $6000. Some operate on gas.
I've heard that the compositing toilet with the handle or crank last a long time before you have to empty it, some say 20 days and can use coconut husks for bedding you just crank the handle and it mixes the poo with the husk and it will compost faster. get a shovel and bury the treasure but there is a rule on where how deep and how much you'd have to look into that
I remember living in a motor home with my parents and one time we left the bottom open on the toilet to the outside. People were so mad at us and we couldn’t figure out why…now as a trucker when in need and no where to go a gallon plastic bag from Walmart and a 1 gallon empty plastic jug. 88 from Walmart easy to pour out and solid plastic. $4 a gallon but in desperate times desperate measures.

Aspirin tablets instead of vinegar for the urinal, shown by another RUclipsr a few years ago. Just drop a few in at the start and again a few days later. Much easier and cheaper than using vinegar, and unlike vinegar those aspirin tablets add zero fluid to the urinal and require almost zero storage space. Not sure why aspirin (a.k.a., acetylsalicylic acid) works, but probably because it creates an acidic solution when dissolved in water, like vinegar, and the acidic environment is not favorable to bacterial growth.
Tory Delury. You have just attended a 3 day master Jedi van-lifer course with Bob Wells. Using your newly acquired Jedi mind skills you must convince the next three random van-lifers to tell you how they go to the toilet OR you can roll a number 2 to proceed to the next stage of your van build.
This is not an actual composting toilet. The composting toilets mix liquids and solids, literally mix with the medium they add. This is simply a separating system. But solids need to be covered. Have you tried coconut coir as a cover? It’s very effective and comes in small bricks. You add a little bit of moisture to the brick and it will expand, you can keep it in a separate container to add to cover all your deposits to the toilet. I appreciate your review. I think this company has a well designed system that is about 1/2 the price of their competitors.

Get a water bottle mister, and put your vinegar in there, and just spray every time you use it.

You can use male urinal bottles with a funnel. You can find them at a pharmacy. They are very sturdy and do not puncture/leak.
That’s kind of what I have been using for the first 3 years in my van, I just was looking to feel more like I live in a house 😅

Could potentially use a rubber seal on the lid of the seat for extra anti-smell protection.
Im kind of surprised you didnt try the 5 gallon bucket, lined with a 7 gallon garbage bag, and put a gallon or two of kitty litter in it. Also put a lid on the bucket, to keep the smell down.
I just really wanted something that felt similar to a house feel!
I'm not about to buy a pee purse because I'm a 50 something guy... Straight but I did buy an Orange, large lid water bottle at REI, it's like a liter maybe more but because it's orange, also no one knows when I take it into the bathroom with me, I wound up buying 2 more for those long weekends at Lovers Point in Monterey, otherwise I work a full-time job, on the road, driving and training, at least they put me in hotels for about 50 weeks out of the year, finishing my box truck build is taking forever, but I'm in no rush.. Other than that, I'm gonna try your cleaning tips and I wanted to say, ( I know you're young and I'm old and shouldn't say it but ..) you are packin' some incredible heat, So Gorgeous, why would you quit modeling ?? anyway love your stuff, can't wait to see the finished product and what you do to the van

OK commercial, hope they paid you well. We use the Trelino Evo-L. Urine diverting toilets are the way to go. Wish people would stop calling these toilets “composting”. Moab, UT prohibits solid human waste disposal in garbage. Glad you covered the regulation issue.

What about cleaning it at a car wash ???
Before you enjoy a pooh with a view, put a drone up to make sure there is no one within 1/4 mile by foot or within sight of the drone if you're near a road. You can always count on unexpected visitors at precisely the wrong moment. Had the misfortune of using the industrial version of an incinerator toilet. Everyone within 1/2 mile of you is going to know what you did. Not recommended.

Don't use the ones with Bags that you Throw Away in the Garbage. I did and after a Few Months, my Garbage Men told me if I keep doing it, they will Stop Collecting my garbage.. The Bags POP!. So I started throwing them away in the Garbage at the Gas Station down the road from me.. I am Banned from that Station..
So now, I just LEGALLY ( I live outside City Limits ) just toss it out in Random spots in my Yard.. City/County says it is No Different than a Wild Animal or Pet doing their stuff in the yard.. Can't Afford that $20,000 Above Ground System I was Suppose to put in..

Well, you know they have pee gels when you urinate in it it just turns to gel there’s no real mess unless you use it three times 😂 and it tips over. twice is fine. And then you just zip it close. And you tossed it in the trash. And a good Home Depot bucket with kitty litter in it. 🤙
5 gallon bucket is better i currently using it as a truck driver. Get rid if the poop real quick.

I have the same toilet different brand but same idea… I actually put a different plastic tub in there that will hold a Ziploc bag…… that way every time I use it it’s clean and I can just zip it up … then put it in a regular trash bag … then one of the blue dog bags like I use for my dog and throw it away in the same place you can throw away a baby diaper or one of your dog bags…… it’s supposed to be a composting toilet, but I don’t use it like that. I use it like a bag toilet
Much cleaner if I get a new bag each time … no compost smell… and I use a spray cleaner to clean the diverter every time

I don’t understand you say it’s gross to clean I thought it had liners for the number 2 .. Yesss, what a game changer. I dump fluids into storm drains in parking lots instead of paying 40 dollars just to dump my suitcase. I still use bathrooms when doing my solids. Only during emergencyies I will solid in my cassette.
Humans have made going to the bathroom so complicated. All these devices. The animals don't worry about it. They just go wherever they are. I used to think of the ocean as one big toilet because of all the fish in it. I remember as a kid going on a train and flushing the toilet and I could see the train tracks. At time because I was a small kid I thought that could be me on the tracks.😮
I know a guy whose job was to suck the train containers full of shit at the train station. A TOTALLY superfluous 💩 job quite literally. Whereas in the olden days it just went on the tracks they only asked people to not do it at the stations. (Then again i think the problem was that people just didnt heed it and shat and pi$$ed whenever they wanted. But it's sooo easily solvable by simply not letting people in at the inappropriate time by locking the toilet. Or making a dump mechanism that only dumps in the good places.)
You must check out the “Icybreeze” 12V portable AC unit & cooler. Operates on 12v and has optional battery available. I am NOT paid by them. I follow a couple other “Van life” people and also let them know. Looks like the real thing for a Portable ac unit. Good luck.

Those are coolers with a blower. 100% useless for van life. I use a cooler with a marine blower to cool down my dog's kennel when I go mountain biking. Lasts about 2 hours and spent $80 total. Let me say that again, 2 hours for a dog kennel. And to make it worse, I need to make sure that my blue ice has been in the freezer over night.
This is NOT a “swamp cooler”but brings outside air in and puts it through a heat exchanger that is indeed chilled by the cold water in the bottom. Not a wet cold air that comes out. Also can use an optional rechargeable battery or 12v. Not just a cooler with a fan on it. 😎

This is a separating toilet, not a composting toilet. Nothing is composted for 12 months inside this toilet, you simply drop the #2 in the trash.
Isn't it funny that all society has done for us is making going for a wee really complicated and sometimes expensive? I mean, it's something animals did for millions of years, for free, where ever they needed, and now the smartest of all animals has to do it somewhere hidden and into a bucket, like we are all cats in someone elses home?
