The Trelino is a disrupter and I dunno why others would even consider other composting toilet that require power. Also for rvers or campers it just makes sense to use this because there isnt a chance of it breaking and having your house smelling of poop

I have had disasters with compostable bags - disintegrating before time to throw away. Ugh! Thank you for doing the research on dumping waste in the garbage. I do wish they had an option of a narrower one. Their size variations are just in height.

Great video! People should use one even in a sticks and bricks. Add up all the gallons of treated DRINKING water flushed down the drain every year. Boggles the mind! Even if people have one in case of emergencies that would be the smart thing to do.

Absolutely concur!! I live in a regular house with a flush toilet, which my housemates use.
I have a Trelino in my guest room for backup use -- as a guest toilet, hurricane toilet, and demo of an eco-friendly stylish toilet. (I myself use a basic Jenkins bucket system for now, but I may treat myself to an additional Trelino for my own use in my garage/studio offgrid glamp-partment as well!)

A woman who travels in a van through Scotland (Aisling something or other) posted a review of this toilet (she also really likes it). One thing she does which I think is a nice idea is that she has an additional reusable shopping bag that she puts the pee container in when she takes it somewhere to dump it so that it is even more discrete. Her bag is also more than large enough to fit a couple of solid bags as well so she can toss them in a trashcan on the way to the public bathroom to dump her liquids. She also purchased an additional liquid container as an emergency backup just in case. This is also probably a pretty good idea.

Just in time Carolyn! I have been eyeing this toilet for the past few weeks. I am no longer in my class C full time so I am trip camping in my suv. I plan to take out the seat behind the drivers seat to make room for this or for the slightly smaller $300 model. I also did a lot of research and this looks to be the smartest design of them all. Cheers!

Yeah that seems like the best option especially the water savings and no smell, and if you are in the back country and bury it without plastic it would probably decompose faster with the organic matter added and there are choices of organic matter some would probably be better than others burying it in the wild. I Bury my stool away from campsites or water where it's left alone to do it's shit

One concern my husband has for our overland vehicle (which does NOT have a holding tank for sewage) is where do we store that large 5 gallon bucket of organic material (hydrated coconut coir)? It would take up a lot of room. Also, since you are not really "composting" your solids, could you use something like kitty litter? It's easy to find and desiccates solid waste. Thanks for video on the Terlino. We currently have a flushable / chemical porta-potty in our overland vehicle and it's pretty good, but it's heavy and clean out is not fun. Looking for alternatives, so thank you for video, I'm considering this toilet!

Instead of coconut coir (I started with that), I use ashes (cooled) and sand/dirt, sometimes my composting worms. Once you seal the bag, no more composting because no more oxygen. I bungee a screen over the commode and set it in discreet space. Also a female urinal that goes into recycled laundry bottle. Basically you want solution that separates.

I like composting toilets just for the water savings if nothing else and I think more and more innovation is coming with them. One thing I recently saw was on a new Airstream where the liquids still go into the black tank and the solids are in the composting bucket so you don’t have to fill the black tank with water and chemicals, and you don’t have to empty the small liquid bottle every day or two.
That liquid container looks larger than many others and I would probably buy a spare for just in case you fill it in the middle of the night. I had seen another brand with a display light when the liquids were getting full. I don’t remember if it ran by its own battery, or it was connected to the RV battery, but it would be nice to know how full it is without disassembling the toilet.

My thing is it's easy to use a trash bag for solids cause you can throw it into a trash big without bringing attention to you, but the liquid would be very obvious in emptying it. I rather having a composting toilet, for everything instead of a urine diverter into a trash bag, you can just drop it off info a trash bins, and leave before anyone notices you dropped everything into a trashbin

Thanks for the info. I am currently building a van and have decided I am going with a Laveo Dry Flush toilet. It will have an extra cost for the bags that go in it, but from my research it doesn’t smell, I never have to see any waste at all and it’s electric. Not too expensive but not dirt cheap. Once I start using it, I will let you know!

Put small chunks of lump charcoal in the urine container to neutralize odors.

I’ve been using a C-Head compost toilet for three years now. It’s different and takes some getting used to…but NOT having to dump!! Yes!!

I have a composting toilet , i bought as a kit. Uses a five gallon bucket. Has the diverter for the pee bottle.
I bought cedar to build a box seat around the bucket with a top that folds down over the seat and put a cushion on top with velcro.
I love it. Sure beats having to go pay to dump the tank at our local camlground

I would've loved to have had one of these a few years back when we had back to back hurricanes and were without electricity for 2 weeks. I used a luggable loo instead. I've always been curious how people who were living in their car for a year or two could manage that. It's next to impossible to use it in a space that small, so they'd have to take it out into the parking lot, or wherever they're staying, and sit on it outdoors to use. Nice.

Some people use the pop up shower stalls as toilet rooms too. So if you are camping in a car or tent, that’s a solution.

I’ve been thinking about the Trelino for my conversion. Thanks for reviewing it. Also looking at Boxio.

I don’t understand the hype about the Trelino
toilet. I just got one, put it in my van and used it and within one day the van smells. with my chemical toilet it smells after like three days but it’s a chemical smell. With this toilet. I put peat Moss down and after use I put more peat Moss down and the whole van smells now. so I don’t get the hype. It smells far worse than my chemical toilet, which only smells like chemicals and only when I lift the lid, and only after 3 days or so. I was really hoping this toilet would work. Not only does it not work but it is made of very thin plastic and costs 400$ for the smaller one. I’m thinking you also have to use coffee grinds or I just return this toilet . I was expecting it to be at least the grade of plastic that is in the 5 gallon water jugs. It is not. It is very very thin.

I was thinking about taking my toilet out of my rv and replace it with a composting toilet, did you do that or are you hauling the toilet in your bathroom or storage area. And ya when I was looking into it, very expensive. I'm going to look into it. Give us the link please

So what about when you're not near a restroom to empty the urine? Do you empty it on the ground or what. Seems like very hands on method of waste disposal. Does it add to the time between disposal... like where do you keep these bags and filled urine containers (I find I "pee" about a half gallon a day. How much does the liquid container hold?) until you go back to town?

Well okay, I see you have the same brand of toilet we got 6 months ago. We love ours. I consider it a great investment. Hope you have a similar experience. 👍🏾💯 If we ever cross paths down the road I'll share some alternatives to the bricks. Much smaller and or best a probable smell remediation.

One more question, are you planning on removing your RV toilet? I would like to put this where my existing toilet is if that's possible. Space is a premium for me (24' C). 😂
