      @@stephenbennett4265 Cornwell sang 70 songs on their first 10 most successful period albums before he quit JJ only sang 25 and Dave 5.Both Burnel & Dave gave up lead vocals totally when Roberts & Ellis joined..Have you heard Burnel trying to sing Thrown Away or Something better Change live? (Painful) They were a spent force even before Cornwell quit. & the reason he quit goes back to the Rome 1985 back stage incident with Burnel..Who'd blame him for quitting? I do agree that Cornwell's material & live shows are lack lustre but Burnel still using the Stranglers Moniker Playing Billy Butlins & Israel now carrying on without the great Dave Greenfield is shameful.

      @@ghmusic8116 Having grown up with the band i am aware Cornwell sung majority of songs ! Still doesn't get away from the fact that Hughs versions of Stranglers songs are awful 🙉 The Roberts, Ellis era did not interest me at all it was only when they left i rekindled my interest on greatest hits tour 2008-2009. Iv'e seen the band on several occassions since and have never come away feeling dissapointed or that as a band they'ed lost it .
      Seems to me you don't like JJ Burnel . They were a spent force after the Aural Sculpture , neither Dreamtime or 10 were good albums .
      If Rome was one of the reasons for Hugh quitting why did he wait 5yrs ?
      It was no secret the 2 didn't get on and you don't push ya luck with a young agressive Burnel . As for the band carrying on i feel they should packed in when Jet retired ! The latest album was almost finished and farwell tour already rubber stamped before Dave passed and JJ and Baz have said they felt duty bound to finish the album and do the tour as it would been wot Dave wanted ! On they're last tour 2019 they were still playing to thousands most nights in sold out venues all over the world and laughing all the way to the bank as has always been the case.
      Wot was bitter Hugh doing ? Scraping a living Playing to a couple of hundred people in shitty venues on a covers tour with another loser
      John Cooper Clarke. Never quite worked out for him did it

      @ghmusic8116 3 года назад +1

      @@stephenbennett4265 Agree with a lot of what you say but bare in mind around the time of the Rome incident in 85 They'd already started the Dreamtime recording sessions with producer Laurie Latham & were under contractual agreement with Epic/CBS for another album so had to follow through on that They basically broke up after Dreamtime's release in 86 for the next 3 years (Hiatus) so it wasn't really 5 years after that incident. Burnel actually quit during the making of Aural Sculpture But was persuaded back by Cornwell. Why do you think Cornwell is bitter? I've met him plenty of times down through the years & he's always been amicable I just find Burnel Naïve & Chauvinistic an opportunist that has successfully managed to turn a lot of people against his former friend & colleague which i do not like about the guy imho for me they ceased being The Stranglers after August 1990 Both Cornwell & the so called Stranglers became 2 totally different artists there after ..And your right that Cornwell /Cooper Clarke Collab was an embarrassment to say the least.
