    I'm having troubles.. as I put too much pressure every time I pass on the smoother to the sides .. so it scrapes lots of buttercream and I have to put some more every time .. then I feel like stuck in this loop 😂 of scraping and putting more .. then scraping and putting more 🤣🤣 .. and if I scrape gently .. I feel like doing nothing at all 🤔... am I dum or does anyone face the same problem here 🤣 and how to fix that pleaaaase tell me

    • @BritishGirlBakes
      @BritishGirlBakes  3 года назад +16

      I scrape lightly but several times... the whole process of scraping, touching up by spreading more onto indents and then scraping scraping scraping takes maybe 15 minutes

    I got so cross with my icing last night. My stand mixer kenwood ring broke, so had to use a hand mixer for huge amount. It was hot and humid, so it got too soft. Realise did not use enough frosting and cake recipe I use is just not firm enough, also I need smaller tins so can practice. Who knew cake decorating could be so stressful!

    Thank you. I think my biggest challenge was stacking the cakes so that the cake looks straight. And the top also doesnt look as smooth as the sides do. Any suggestions on what i can do there? I usually end up decorating the top to cover it up just so it doesnt show :D

    • @lamyaandadam
      @lamyaandadam 3 года назад +3

      If you have trouble with stacking straight cakes, try filling your cake in the pan using acetate collar, it is game changing.
      The best way to get a straight top is actually straighten them smooth as best as you can before moving to the sides. After frosting and smoothing the sides, freeze or chill ur cake till the icing is super cold and completely solid then cut the lip of frosting with a hot sharp knife

    One thing I don't understand is I put a generous amount of frosting and you still see the cake peeking through. Is there a reason why that is happening

    • @BritishGirlBakes
      @BritishGirlBakes  2 года назад

      Is it happening all over the cake or only in a certain place? If it's only in one area, it could be that the cake is leaning slightly and then your cake comb will scrape off the frosting and expose the cake underneath. I shared a tutorial a few weeks ago on how to fix a leaning cake that might help! ruclips.net/video/0QqDL8iKtok/видео.html

    If we put cake in refrigerator, doesn't it loose moisture and becomes harden?

    • @BritishGirlBakes
      @BritishGirlBakes  2 года назад

      Not if it's sealed with cling film/Saran Wrap or if it's already been frosted, because that will also seal the moisture. When you take it out of the fridge, wait until it comes to room temperature before you eat it, which will take 2-4 hours, and that's when it will taste the best! I honestly can't tell the difference between cakes baked on the same day and cakes that have been frozen and defrosted.
