Nearly 300 peaceful protesters were arrested over the weekend as student-led Gaza solidarity encampments across U.S. university and college campuses face an intensifying crackdown. Democracy Now! spoke with Columbia University professors and students Monday as they were threatened with suspension but voted to continue the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, which began almost two weeks ago. "Hundreds of our students have been disciplined in the past six months on unfair premises," said Sueda Polat, a Columbia student organizer who is studying human rights. "We are willing to put a lot on the line for this cause. My right to education shouldn't come before the right to education of Gazans."

To be honest, I wasn’t with the college premises being used for protests. Seeing the young students continue to stand together after all this, makes my mind change. But why don’t the students bring all this to the streets? There are other students who might not want to participate but have to experience classes being canceled. 'Feeling unsafe' is not necessarily 'being unsafe'. The perception of danger is not the same as actual danger. There are thousands (maybe millions?) of people with a crippling fear of flying who would never voluntarily get on a plane. Yet flying commercially is one of the safest things anybody could ever do. At the same time, I have never heard of anyone having a fear of driving, one of the most dangerous things people do on a daily basis.
I fear driving, especially at night, but I also have a neurological condition that effects my fine motor skills, focus, the way I process stimuli, etc. I was an overnighter up until recently, and driving down the interstate at night used to fill me with so much dread and anxiety.
I think that fearing my own driving, however, actually makes me safer than a lot of folks out there. Too many people are far too confident in their skills.
Tell this to the SJWs who make everyone on these campuses take trainings on microaggressions and claim that speech is violence.

At least these kids are getting arrested for what they believe in, which is more than I can say about any of the smug naysayers.
It actually makes sense to protest here. For one thing, a bunch of protestors isn't going to sway an unhinged lunatic who's willing to kill 35000 civilians and hundreds of humanitarian aid workers. Secondly, our government is not only not adequately condemning the genocide, but is spending tax dollars to fund it. It's our bombs that are killing children over there, so it makes perfect sense to hold our own politicians accountable and hold their feet to the fire. Biden needs to step the f-ck up.
