I saw it on Friday and loved it! I thought she was perfect. Loved her singing. I also loved Javier Bardem's Triton. He added such depth. It makes so much more sense having the sisters represent the different corners of the Earth. Sebastian was great as well. Much better than the animated version.

By ‘encounters’ I think you mean strategically calculated PR moves for photographs with black kids to promote and highlight Halles skin color even though it’s not supposed to be an issue and we are supposed to see past it…
You mixing a lot of things up there. No one is trying to hide Halle’s skin colour. It’s something to be celebrated. But ya, you shouldn’t take “issue” with a Black woman playing a fictionous mermaid (who also don’t exist in real life). You only have to look passed her skin colour if you have a negative reaction to seeing it. And yes, the children didn’t just happened to be sitting on Tamron’s or GMA’s set. They were brought in to meet Halle 🙄
@@GraemeONeil It’s so hypocritical for people to say ‘oh she’s a fictional mermaid, it doesn’t matter what race she is’ but then say ‘representation matters 😭 Ariel is black now get over it, it’s so important that Ariel is black’. I wouldn’t have minded as much if it was consistent. I thought they were going to pick Terry Crews to be Triton which would’ve been epic. I saw the movie and I just didn’t buy the ending. Halle and Havier clearly don’t look like father and daughter and don’t get me started on the sisters 😂 They had the chance to make a perfect Disney live action and they totally blew it. Vanessa is way prettier than Ariel in the movie 😂. Halle was recently angry at an interviewer in Mexico who said that they didn’t see her skin colour, they just had to look into her eyes and they saw Ariel. It was a very sincere comment but Halle complained to Disney that she now doesn’t want unprepared interviews. It just goes to show what she’s really like. That comment was positive, not negative, but her only character trait and talent is her skin colour apparently. I saw the movie and it was rubbish. I hated all of the changes. The only part I genuinely liked was when Ariel showed Eric how to use his sea treasures.
