Your videos are great. I got put in a position where I have to DIY a lot of things with two left hands lol but so far so good and grown in confidence, currently laying slabs for my patio in the garden and watching you and the crew work is great, get to see little techniques and how things are done, almost like being on a job site. So thank you for your time to show us. Bless up
Whoa! Darren, you got nuf certificate to print off tonight. "Chief Block Cutter", "Chief Block Holder", Chief Site Chatta". Tristan stacking up the accolades, soon be running the Site. 😂
It's nice to see (Tristan?) getting his hands on laying some blocks. I'm a mechanic by trade, and remember my first tentative shaky steps getting on the tools and just trying to get through the job at hand and seeing him on the tools brings it back for me. Soon he'll be slinging the muck down in no time
Mikey here, looking good, nice to see you all get on well, good atmosphere & jokes, & the guy are lucky gaining lots of knowledge & experience, which is priceless Best wishes,…Mikey Borehamwood
I am looking to build a shed with the first 600mm above ground level made of concrete blocks, the rest up to roof height will be wooden framed. The back wall of the shed is going to be all block as it will be inaccessible in the future. Could I safely use a single skin of concrete blocks to reach a height of 1.8m above ground level or should I lie them flat? The wall in question will be 5.2m long. If it was single skin I was intending on having a pier in the middle. Thanks in advance and thanks for the inspiration videos.
Hi Darren where the outside walls meet the vertical steel beams. You have exposed steel, are you rendering both side or bricking it up? Bearing in mind you have a soil stack down one side. Looking forward in seeing your solutions 👍❤️
great videos. could you tell us what size those beams are you put in and what they span for the back wall? Why is it this steel sits on the post whilst in other builds the cross beam bolts into the side upright posts?
Great progress. It's nice to see you train the apprentices on new skills. I was wondering yesterday why you omitted the block laying of the external walls - sorry you forgot to hit record.
Thanks for answering my question regarding wall starters. I assume you bought some jobbers drills for that task as i dont thing one drill bit would last long 😀
Couldn't help noticing you're using 2 different strength Thermalites as indicated by the scratch mark patterns.Hopefully not a problem. Really enjoyable content.
@darrenthebuilder I noticed a few with equally spaced scratches, which are 7N, but most have the scratches in pairs, which are 3.6 N. I doubt it's a problem in one or 2 storey buildings, but it's worth bearing in mind. 7N blocks are a lot more expensive, so you probably got a bargain 🤣
I know I'm gonna get slated for this comment as I did a few months ago when I said I wouldn't let them lads lay lego blocks ,and I still stand by my comment the lad in grey who's eating while trying to lay blocks is a joke ,you never see that on a building site surely it's cheaper to pay a time severed brickie to do the work ,I awaite all the slagging off oh and by the way I have been in the building game for 50yrs .
NO ones gonna slag you off mate as you're entitled to your view, but what I will give is a different perspective. To start off its my job so I decide who I hire and it doesn't cost anyone but me as I'm on price. Its called investing in people. The problem with a lot of tradesmen from your generation is that everything is about ££ and how quick you can earn it and less about training others. This is why the UK currently has no trades men because of the lack of apprenticeships and companies not willing to invest in people. Thankfully I'm a patient person who isn't driven by money. If you don't have people you have nothing. Also find me a "time served" brickie in London that is available to work or who can fit in to this squad and isn't going to moan all day and only care about money. We love our crew the way it is, so that wont change. Also older gentlemen like you should look at ways you can invest in the youngers rather than trying to replace them due to their lack of experience for older trades men who have already benefitted from the trades. This is my perspective, I hope it makes sense to you. Bless
I agree. If you train younger people it's better for you and them . I tell people I can't pay big wages but will train people to do there own work. I would happily lay bricks / blocks for you but if I'm busy and you sat at home waiting for me it would cost you money.
@@darrenthebuildernicely put Darren, consecutive governments have neglected training apprentices and now think the answer is people in rubber boats. All the world tradespeople are queuing up in France to work here.
Darren firstly I respect your view I totally agree there should be more trades available but that's not down to other trades not doing there bit in helping them, if I was still self employed I couldn't afford to send a young person to day release at college then have them working for me showing them the ropes for how ever long a trade is now mine was 5yrs, like you I was on price work as you know you got to cover wages first and if I priced it for say 3 days then it took 4 who pays the extra for showing the kid the rights from wrong I would of never survived and yes it is about ponds shillings and pence you price it you go over your loss it's the government who are at fault not giving these kids the chance to learn a trade regards jeff

Darren, wouldnt it have been easier to build the external skin 1st from the inside then build the inside skin rather than sqeezing down the side
Racing ahead!👌
Tristan on the blocks nice
Great vlog Darren and the lads kept life happy all day, lol. Stay well.

They all came in one order should all be the same. I’m not sure what different ones you saw though.

It’s called a wall starter. It’s used to connect the wall to the building
@@darrenthebuilder legend. Can it be used on a wall rather than a steel too?
Yes, 9 times out of ten it’s used on walls. This case here is rare
Cutter certification 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great watching but if there was less chatter you could have finished all the courses.
And we’d be miserable like a lot of people at work lol. The other courses can be finished another day. The blocks will be there waiting for us 🤣
