To answer why Capelli had a change of heart was because he saw how far Hale was willing to go no matter what the cost. He ended up respecting him because in the last mission he's with you the entire way pretty much , sees what Hale went through to stop the Chimera. I liked their arc. Agree with this! The change from how he was in 2 to how he became in 3 sounded nice if I could SEE IT instead of IMPLIED with how the story ended! Frankly a part of me feels if they remake the trilogy. They should give you points in 2 where you play as him, get to SEE his character development from the hardass jackass you meet at the start of the second game (and why he's acting as such) to turning into the individual he became at the end to make his transition to 3 Capelli feel more EARNED! Also if they remake 2, remove the two weapon limit and those FUCKING INVISIBILE ONE HIT KILL enemies! They were never interesting OR fun! They're just there to be a PLAGUE! Never was a fan of ONE HIT KILL enemies unless it's MELEE and it's a sequence like that giant who eats you if you forgot to save a rocket....speaking of which I cannot fathom WHY the developers didn't just give you a free Rocket for that sequence separate from your remaining rounds to PREVENT yourself from being eaten! It's more example that they wanted to copy Halo like everyone else started doing with that STUPID two weapon limit without thinking about AMMO which should have just been UNIVERSAL at that point! Basically you're RESTRICTED to the ammo max of the two you have, But enemies will drop ammo that fills BOTH of them and their SEPERATED from each other! Grab a new weapon, it resets for that AMMO max amount that can be carried or HALF of it is! Either way, better then STARVING for AMMO in a game that loves throwing BULLET SPONGES in MASS! But then I feel a Remake of 2 should just do what the first AND Third game did and leave the segments of Health! Hell you can mix it in the story by removing the Health gauge and aiding Regenerating health and RED SCREEN when near death for the later half as Hale is in the final stage to showcase this. Health Packs still heal as they did in the first game because the Chimera are using them so it has to be something they use as well. But you get where I'm going with this! SHOW how powerful Hale is becoming as he slowly is losing himself and let us BENEFIT off of it! Since we're suppose to like him. And DON'T have him constantly refusing to take his meds for the sake of FORCING that ending, it makes Hale looks VERY stupid and I get it, meant to make him EDGY cause the time of the game, EVERYONE was getting that treatment. But a Remake REALLY needs to make his character LESS this and not abuse PTSD to justify VERY Stupid decisions that have nothing to do with PTSD!)
Of the handful of people I know who actually played this series, they always talk highly of resistance 2. I didn't think so many people were disliking it. I had a great time playing it and I love all of them.
I think R2 suffers from what I like to call internet opinion because I'm with you I thought everyone loved this game until I started revisiting this series. The community (the internet opinion) is that this game is the worst which I don't agree with but saying that it wasn't as good as I remembered. I think the limit on weapons dampens my personal love for this game though
I feel like Resistance 2 lost a lot of its identity by removing the weapon wheel, the health packs, and focusing on ADS. It felt closer to a CoD clone than the first and third Resistance.
One note: Daedalus is not the end result of just not taking the inhibitors, Daedalus was spliced with Pure Chimeran dna, not just the virus like Capelli, and the rest of the squad, however Hale is was also injected with the same Pure Chimeran dna just like Shepard was back then, but Hale's infection became dormant until he got actually infected in the first game awakening the Pure Chimeran Genes, which is also why he was able to resist the call of the angels in the first game since he was of the one strain higher than all other chimera
This series multi-player was a tonne of fun, even Retribution on the PSP. It's a great series I'd love to see Sony bring it back for this generation of consoles!
For me personally, Resistance 2 is my favorite game in the series. It's just such a crazy heart pumping trill ride and it's so much fun. Sure the Call of Duty influence is painfully obvious and it ditches the slower paced strategic style that Fall of Man did so well but for me personally made up with that with much more exciting gameplay. Sure the story is basically an Alien invasion movie of B quality but it does the job well enough. The environments really do mix things and inject some much needed color that Fall of Man was severely lacking. Great game doesn't get enough credit.
Resistance 2 is my favorite. The Soundtrack, the feelings, the plot, the weapons... it was perfect. The only issue was the limited weappns you can carry, but except for that I loved it
Having gotten to play the resistance series sine the beginning on the original ps3, these games were very fun, but resistance 2 and 3 imo is where they shined.
The whole thing I loved about Resistance was carrying a dozen different badass weapons I could switch between at will. I did not give a damn that it was unrealistic. When I realized R2 had a two weapon limit, I stopped playing and returned the game. Never made it past level 1.
In my head canon Hale never took the inhibitors because once he started missing doses his mind started turning toward the Chimera and he didn't actually want to take them. The virus was giving him urges to skip the meds. Edit: Just found your channel tonight and I'm really enjoying these Resistance vids and I put them and 3 or 4 other videos from your catalog in my bedtime playlist so I'm listening to them now and I definitely subscribed
Resistance 2 was the first PS3 game I ever played. I was completely blown away when I saw the Goliath in the first level and I remember everything that happened in the campaign like the back of my hand because I played it so much. Daedalus was a fantastic antagonist and I loved that he was essnetially the voice of the Chimera. Resistance 2 did borrow some aspects from other fps games that came out at the time such as the two weapon limit and the health regen that kicks in if you don't take damage but given that Hale has the Chimeran healing factor, the CoD-style regen in R2 is honestly the only instance where it makes sense. If I had any talent for game programming, I would love to make a remastered version of this game with the Fall of Man style weapon wheel so you can use the full arsenal and I would completly overhaul the final fight against Daedalus, which was always a letdown for me, to make it more of a challenge.
For me, this is a fundamentally good game at heart that is overwhelmed by the accumulation of small problems. When I think about the parts I like vs the parts I don't, the parts I like take up more time in the experience, but the parts that I don't like just kill the momentum and take the wind out of my sails to the point that I'm no longer in the right mindset to enjoy the rest unless I stop frequently. I can't make a logical case that it's a bad game, but I rarely come away from it particularly enthused. This game is one I've only ever experienced as less than the sum of its parts.
Very well said mate and I do agree that I wouldn't say this is a bad game like many fans but it has the potential to be great but just has too many detractors.
It was described in game the inhibitors had to be administered into the neck at the base of the brain. There is a temporary inhibitor you breathe in, but it only lasts 2-3 hours
My feeling the whole time was "this is Sony's Halo" at least the second game, the first didn't feel like that, but this one had a lot of Halo inspiration

I think you're right.. I loved all 3 games because the first game made such and impact on me when it released. I purchased the ps3 at launch and the games available at that time were all pretty underwhelming but then I got resistance and it made me feel better about my purchase because I knew it had potential. So I was willing to overlook many of the short comings and I embraced the strengths because I was invested in the story. Also the online play was a good time. I think people hated it because it was so disappointing. Fall of man was such a strong opening act that if they improved in all the same areas they did and left everything else alone it would have been a huge hit. People just got mad they ruined things they loved about the first game while fixing the things they didn't like. It's kinda like we traded one set of flaws for a different set and overall the outcome was worse.
I always felt like Resistance 2 is a failed experiment. The changes it made stemmed from copying Call of Duty when what made the first game appealing was the weapon wheel and a "Doom" like feel to the gameplay, although slower in pace. It felt like its own game and gave the imprint of what a Resistance game feels like. Resistance fall of man felt and played differently from Killzone, which felt and played differently from COD, etc. The variety was a good thing. When Resistance 2 came out, it didn't feel like a Resistance game at all, but a game trying to copy COD using Resistance characters. Also, not taking the inhibitors was just such an unforgivable plot-hole. A good story has characters making believable decisions. Nothing in Hale's actions was believable. It was like the writers needed Hale to be killed at the end and just created a path to lead to that end without submitting the draft to an editor.
Resistance 2 doesn't seem to be a popular a entry in the series, at least from what I have garnered whilst covering the series. I actually agree with what you're saying though, it does lose it's identity a little bit and the story for why Hale goes full Chimera just makes no sense. As a game, I still really enjoyed myself and think there is a lot to like about Resistance 2 but I can see why people don't enjoy it, especially fans.
Resistance 2 is honestly one of my favorite games ever it gave you innovative multiplayer 60 player competitive matches and a unique co-op campaign while not neglecting single player at all giving us enormous boss battles that dwarf most enemies in games today in terms of size and it was just such an epic plot to take part in, very few games today offer this much and give you such a complete package
Resistance 2 had one of THE BEST marketing campaigns ever. The "What Is Project Abraham" website, the puzzles, videos and recordings - hell, I was at work and one of the Characters from Project Abraham had a recording and they called as part of the whole lead up to R2. It was fantastic and SO well done. You make some solid points that I can agree with. In spite of some of the downgrades of the weapon wheel and others, I still loved SO much of this game. I still play coop locally as a single from time to time! R3, was brilliantly well told and really hit the tone and atmosphere well. R2 showed the scale of the Chimera amazingly well and made you feel overwhelmed and small. R3's campaign does a fantastic job of making you feel hopeless and trying to live some kind of life under the Chimeran rule while the multiplayer unfortunately fell very flat compared to R1 and R2's multiplayer. R3's campaign deserved wayyy more credit. I'm hoping someday, they'll remaster R1 - R3 and the PSP entry (not the PS VITA one). Until then, I'll be trying to beat coop levels solo hehe.
I remember when this game came out I could not wait to get a copy of it. My wife and I had just had the hoot and a half playing the first one on that co-op split screen only for me to find out this game did not seem to offer that. I remember feeling deflated and ejecting the disc putting it in its box and I never touched it again.
Pretty sure they stated just after Hale's surgery was done that the Inhibitors (Or at least the new ones) didnt work for Hale. So as far as Hale was concerned the inhibitors were useless.
The marksman is one of my favorite weapons in all of gaming.....up there with the pimpernel and lyuda. Cool weapons and crazy enemies made the resistamce series fun....the film like visualization drew you in.....and all your points were pretty accurate. I may get a ps3 again just to break out my orange box.....thanks for the reason
Watching these I realized I never did play #3 and I can't believe it! I guess I was in grade 12 when it came out and my priorities changed but i feel like because I played 1 and 2 and loved them.. I need to play #3 now.
I loved this one the most out of the series. Gameplay wise, it was horrifying fighting the grims in the dark hallways in Chicago or the backyards of Twin Falls. The grims were my favorite enemy cause of how dangerous they were in hordes while rushing you. I never had an issue with ammo, cause a neat little trick I learned was using a gun till it was low or out of ammo then dropping it for another gun and switching again when I found a another just like the one I ditched. When you do that you get full load out of ammo including your secondaries. The guns were at their best and the combat was intense. Another thing I liked was coming across a radio once in while and listening to the DJ slowly lose his mind as the battle raged on throughout the game. The atmosphere was so thick and the game was as grim as they come. This my favorite in the series. Fall of man was second favorite, for many of the same reasons. It wasn't quite as scary as Resistance 2 but the battles were insanely good! Fall of Man was best played in split screen co-op. Something Resistance 2 should've had but didnt. But the co-op they did have was amazing in its own right. And the pvp multi-player was fun as hell too.
I still enjoyed 2, played it many times, my gripe also the strange decision to remove the weapon wheel, that was really the only thing (for me) holding it back from being a proper sequel, other than that, it was a fun time.
Personally, I thought the story of R2 had more potential than R3. R3 felt like they scaled things down too much and it turned into a survival/apocalypse story. R2 ended at a point in the story where the universe could've had a major expansion into the deeper lore around the Chimera war with the other mysterious race. Like a full on space opera with humanity being caught in the middle.
I think you're right, R2 set up a whole lot of potential to go nuts with the Chimera I think maybe that gets overlooked because most think R3 is just better the R2 so certain things like that get overlooked
Recently replayed this game not long ago on the second highest difficulty and it definitely showed it's age. I still love the story and the series, but damn the downgrades did hurt when playing though it. I'll never be able to platinum this game, but the trophies I can get will still be a challenge. If any in the series need a remake it's definitely this one.
Good series so far. I enjoyed Resistance 1 and 2 quite a bit and can remember a decent amount from them, and when it came to 3... I really can't recall what my issues were specifically but I can very distinctly remember feeling really damn bored throughout and just slogged my way through. Very interested in seeing you cover the next game and wondering if I'll come away wanting to give it another shot or not.
Totally agree with your views, I enjoyed it and completed it in a couple of sit-downs but I had that feeling the went so "Halo" that the essence of the first game was somewhat lost.
I feel like the campaign would've been more enjoyable if they kept the coop option the other 2 have. The multiplayer was something else, I was so sad when I heard the servers went down because that was some of the most fun gameplay I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing
This game made my middle/high school times. I loved the story, adored the co-op, was fascinated by the aliens. In all honesty, I feel that R3 had the weakest story, even if R2 had some REALLY stupid writing decisions (Hale sacrificing himself for the sake of the mission, how Daedalus escapes, teammates have no personality beyond stock action sidekick tropes). Because of all the unanswered/ignored/poorly answered questions.
Just finished Resistance 2, it seems the soldiers being infected is mostly just a macguffin excuse to have soldier drama. I believe Hale being infected and being taken over by the hive mind is why he ignores the inhibitor treatment. Hale also likely has a personal vendetta against Daedeulus since it's basically a glimpse into the future for Hale. Hale looses all of his men and his squad. All dead because of his leadership. That's gotta sting. I think Hale secretly wanted to die, it must be hell to constantly resist an alien virus and knowingly be used by the country and planet you swore to protect. Capelli is freaking out and very antisocial because of his infection as well but I only learned that from an intel file. I like R2 but I don't love it. It really stings that the coop and multiplayer servers are dead as well. I'm sure this game was legendary in it's prime. Too bad I was on Xbox, man times have changed. I'd love a remaster 7/10 (Singleplayer)
This is a really good game but the visual style of the first one can’t be beat. I also think the enemy design and animations were better. That along with the weapon wheel and more horror vibe makes fall of man a masterpiece imo
That was an issue I noticed more now that I replayed Resistance 3 at least in regards to aesthetics. I think with the criticism's of Fall of Man being very bleak and brown they tried to brighten the game up a bit but may have gotten carried away. I do miss the narration though

I know that this is an old video and I know that this is an old videogame but really it’s a shame well that the main character from the first game dies at the end of the game and literally this franchise got forgotten for years back
Out of the 3 main games, Resistance 2 is the one I like the least. No health bar, just 2 weapons and no split screen for the campaign set it apart from the first and third game in negative ways. It would be interesting to see that if the Resistance games ever got a Remastered Collection, if Resistance 2 could be changed to include a health bar and carrying all weapons at the same time. Of course with toggles to turn them off for those who liked the original game as it is.
I'd like to hope if they remade or remastered the trilogy they could add and improve on some much needed features but we'll have to wait and see if they're even interested in that project
This was the first Resistance game i played when in was a young kid. But holy shit is this game is flawed. Its not the worst game ever, it had some cool things (new chimera types, soundtrack, etc) but not enough to make it as good as the first game. Ps: i can't talk about the multiplayer since i never got to try it myself.
100% Resistance 2 is flawed and I agree ultimately despite the improvements it does lose out to Fall of Man overall. The multiplayer was Resistance 2's big improvement over the original. Overall though, whilst I think Fall of Man is better I still had a blast replaying Resistance 2 flaws and all 😊

Plz plz plz plz review the resistance games on the PSP in the PS Vita. I just got into the series, beat the first game, almost at the end of the 2nd and about the play the 3rd. I really enjoy the series, I would love the watch the reviews on your opinion on the PSP and the vita version.
Different strokes for different folks right. Personally, I enjoyed 2 but I thought FOM and 3 were better simply due to the freedom with the full arsenal as opposed to the 2 weapon limit. 2 is a fun game though
I played the resistante saga back in the day and I gotta say, the saga hasn't aged pretty well (especially resistance 1), there's still some things that the 1st, 2d and 3rd game do well (especially the 2nd and 3rd) but overall, its such a waste bc some ideas and concepts if they were just executed better, this could have been a great saga. If you ask me, the first resistance should have take the point of view of the human/chimera war of the 3rd game, with this I mean a more realistic and human perspective, a more human component since the first game could have made a better story, and more interesting characters.
I miss the old ps3 days... Games which includes a cool campaign and fun multiplayer/coop. Today we pay 80€ for a only-singleplayer game 🥲 I never played Fall of Men but 2 and 3 are one of my favorite games on ps3. It makes fun, looks good, setting, enemy design, weapons... everything is so interesting. Why we dont get a good Remastered Trilogy or a Reboot??
IMO I always found Resistance 2 to be better than the first game. Sure R2 has its drawbacks such as the 2 weapon limit which kinda sucks, thus making it kind of a clone of Call of Duty 4, or Call of Resistance as you could call it lol. But controls and gameplay wise, it does play like COD which does have the right formula for the way a tactical FPS game should play. So I always found R2 to be more enjoyable, simply because I found the game to have better gameplay than R1, and not to mention that R2 had much less drab and gray color and graphics, it’s more visually appealing, and doesn’t look quite as dated. If you go back to R1 and look at the graphics, it does have that early PS3 game look to it if you know what I mean. Not to mention about R1, I kinda find that the game drags on in length compared to the other games. So with all these things, gameplay, graphics, and too long of length, I always found that R1 is the one Resistance game that I have a hard time going back and revisiting. R2 and R3 are personally games where they made improvements upon the first game. R2 is not perfect, and is essentially the Resistance COD clone, but R3 is where they make the best of both worlds. They bring back the weapon wheel, and they bring back the health bar, which I’m finding with the later, I’m beginning to prefer FPS games where you have a health bar, such as Wolfenstein and Doom. I find it adds to the challenge.
Playing through this for the first time and I'm about halfway through. Honestly, not enjoying it. The sound and creepy atmosphere are amazing, and the gunplay is really good especially considering its age, but i find the enemies bullet spongey, and not satisfying to put down. The game seems to hold alot of nostalgia for the now young adult crowd, and criticisms are met with a fair bit of internet hostility lol. I don't care though, everyone's taste is different. Maybe my opinion will change once i complete the campaign, but for now on a "is it fun" scale, I'd rate it a 6/10.
Resistance 2 was not as good as 1 because of no weapon wheel, the healing is different and co op different. Should have kept it the same as the first one with updated graphics and new weapon and story then perfect. Part 3 really took a slide back.
So I'm replaying Resistance 2, and wanted to hear someone else's thoughts on the game. You wanted to know why some consider it bad, so I will explain. I consider it bad because many aspects of its design are frustrating to deal with, rather than being fun to engage with. The two weapon limit doesn't just preclude experimenting, it removes combat and gameplay options when you desperately need them. So many encounters that are already poorly thought out, become nightmares with limited weapon choice. The checkpoints don't make these cheap deaths any less maddening. The 3 titans in the park is one example of an atrociously designed fight. If there's a rocket launcher available for that, I never found it. That's also not the only fight with instant death exploding cars placed everywhere. The limited gameplay, cheap level design/enemy placement, and molasses movement speed just make this game a tiresome slog. There's also less intel to pick up, so isn't even much lore for me to chew on. You also touched on the limited ammo, but didn't mention that returning weapons from the first game have had magazine size and max ammo reduced. The carbine and bullseye have had the mag size halved. So dying because you need to reload your tiny 30 round magazine happens a lot. You generally die very quickly so it just makes the gameplay very passive hiding behind cover and hoping you don't die randomly before the slow health regen kicks in. You can also just die instantly even if you're at full health. This happens a lot and is not what I consider fun. I'm at the Iceland tower now which is past the point where the game introduces any new weapons or enemies. Its all the same shit going forward and I'm sick of it.
Yeah, this is the worst of the series for me personally... while the campaign had a decent structure, I really didn't like most combat encounters, as enemies are too spongy that make some weapons (which you can carry only two at a time) feel useless, and visuals seemed too confusing due to the highly saturated colors and contrast. Co-op is fun, though.
Resistance 2 def has one of the best endings in gaming ever but also has the most generic gameplay out of the 3 games. Removing the weapon wheel and focusing on CoD style ADS shooting killed a lot of the soul.
It’s a bad game compared to the first. It’s 2 weapon limit, overly linear, hand holding, placing set pieces and set piece weapons. It was basically a COD game. I still own it, but it’s very predictable and corny. I like FOM and 3 much better

obviously capelli didnt trust hale at first and after all the battles they fought in the end he respected him as a his leader and was sorry he had to take him out and wished it could have been different thats why he said its been an honor this game is anazing they should do a reboot from russian perspective of how they tried to fight and lost because in every game they loose the british loose the americans loose you can expand upon this game so much

One note: Daedalus is not the end result of just not taking the inhibitors, Daedalus was spliced with Pure Chimeran dna, not just the virus like Capelli, and the rest of the squad, however Hale is was also injected with the same Pure Chimeran dna just like Shepard was back then, but Hale's infection became dormant until he got actually infected in the first game awakening the Pure Chimeran Genes, which is also why he was able to resist the call of the angels in the first game since he was of the one strain higher than all other chimera

This series multi-player was a tonne of fun, even Retribution on the PSP. It's a great series I'd love to see Sony bring it back for this generation of consoles!
Back in those days, wifi tech was worse so I sadly missed the multiplayer as well. It was a shame.
Resistance 2 is my favorite platinum without question. The CO-OP is the best in the series sadly I'm not sure if it is even functional offline.

For me personally, Resistance 2 is my favorite game in the series. It's just such a crazy heart pumping trill ride and it's so much fun. Sure the Call of Duty influence is painfully obvious and it ditches the slower paced strategic style that Fall of Man did so well but for me personally made up with that with much more exciting gameplay. Sure the story is basically an Alien invasion movie of B quality but it does the job well enough. The environments really do mix things and inject some much needed color that Fall of Man was severely lacking. Great game doesn't get enough credit.
Resistance 2 is my favorite. The Soundtrack, the feelings, the plot, the weapons... it was perfect. The only issue was the limited weappns you can carry, but except for that I loved it
Having gotten to play the resistance series sine the beginning on the original ps3, these games were very fun, but resistance 2 and 3 imo is where they shined.
The whole thing I loved about Resistance was carrying a dozen different badass weapons I could switch between at will. I did not give a damn that it was unrealistic. When I realized R2 had a two weapon limit, I stopped playing and returned the game. Never made it past level 1.
The coop and pvp in this game was peak. Used to play it with my brothers after school.
In my head canon Hale never took the inhibitors because once he started missing doses his mind started turning toward the Chimera and he didn't actually want to take them. The virus was giving him urges to skip the meds.

Resistance 2 was the first PS3 game I ever played. I was completely blown away when I saw the Goliath in the first level and I remember everything that happened in the campaign like the back of my hand because I played it so much. Daedalus was a fantastic antagonist and I loved that he was essnetially the voice of the Chimera. Resistance 2 did borrow some aspects from other fps games that came out at the time such as the two weapon limit and the health regen that kicks in if you don't take damage but given that Hale has the Chimeran healing factor, the CoD-style regen in R2 is honestly the only instance where it makes sense.
If I had any talent for game programming, I would love to make a remastered version of this game with the Fall of Man style weapon wheel so you can use the full arsenal and I would completly overhaul the final fight against Daedalus, which was always a letdown for me, to make it more of a challenge.
For me, this is a fundamentally good game at heart that is overwhelmed by the accumulation of small problems. When I think about the parts I like vs the parts I don't, the parts I like take up more time in the experience, but the parts that I don't like just kill the momentum and take the wind out of my sails to the point that I'm no longer in the right mindset to enjoy the rest unless I stop frequently. I can't make a logical case that it's a bad game, but I rarely come away from it particularly enthused. This game is one I've only ever experienced as less than the sum of its parts.

It was described in game the inhibitors had to be administered into the neck at the base of the brain. There is a temporary inhibitor you breathe in, but it only lasts 2-3 hours

I think you're right.. I loved all 3 games because the first game made such and impact on me when it released. I purchased the ps3 at launch and the games available at that time were all pretty underwhelming but then I got resistance and it made me feel better about my purchase because I knew it had potential. So I was willing to overlook many of the short comings and I embraced the strengths because I was invested in the story. Also the online play was a good time. I think people hated it because it was so disappointing. Fall of man was such a strong opening act that if they improved in all the same areas they did and left everything else alone it would have been a huge hit. People just got mad they ruined things they loved about the first game while fixing the things they didn't like. It's kinda like we traded one set of flaws for a different set and overall the outcome was worse.

I always felt like Resistance 2 is a failed experiment. The changes it made stemmed from copying Call of Duty when what made the first game appealing was the weapon wheel and a "Doom" like feel to the gameplay, although slower in pace. It felt like its own game and gave the imprint of what a Resistance game feels like. Resistance fall of man felt and played differently from Killzone, which felt and played differently from COD, etc. The variety was a good thing. When Resistance 2 came out, it didn't feel like a Resistance game at all, but a game trying to copy COD using Resistance characters. Also, not taking the inhibitors was just such an unforgivable plot-hole. A good story has characters making believable decisions. Nothing in Hale's actions was believable. It was like the writers needed Hale to be killed at the end and just created a path to lead to that end without submitting the draft to an editor.
Resistance 2 doesn't seem to be a popular a entry in the series, at least from what I have garnered whilst covering the series. I actually agree with what you're saying though, it does lose it's identity a little bit and the story for why Hale goes full Chimera just makes no sense. As a game, I still really enjoyed myself and think there is a lot to like about Resistance 2 but I can see why people don't enjoy it, especially fans.

Resistance 2 is honestly one of my favorite games ever it gave you innovative multiplayer 60 player competitive matches and a unique co-op campaign while not neglecting single player at all giving us enormous boss battles that dwarf most enemies in games today in terms of size and it was just such an epic plot to take part in, very few games today offer this much and give you such a complete package
Resistance 2 had one of THE BEST marketing campaigns ever. The "What Is Project Abraham" website, the puzzles, videos and recordings - hell, I was at work and one of the Characters from Project Abraham had a recording and they called as part of the whole lead up to R2. It was fantastic and SO well done. You make some solid points that I can agree with. In spite of some of the downgrades of the weapon wheel and others, I still loved SO much of this game. I still play coop locally as a single from time to time! R3, was brilliantly well told and really hit the tone and atmosphere well. R2 showed the scale of the Chimera amazingly well and made you feel overwhelmed and small. R3's campaign does a fantastic job of making you feel hopeless and trying to live some kind of life under the Chimeran rule while the multiplayer unfortunately fell very flat compared to R1 and R2's multiplayer. R3's campaign deserved wayyy more credit. I'm hoping someday, they'll remaster R1 - R3 and the PSP entry (not the PS VITA one). Until then, I'll be trying to beat coop levels solo hehe.

I remember when this game came out I could not wait to get a copy of it. My wife and I had just had the hoot and a half playing the first one on that co-op split screen only for me to find out this game did not seem to offer that. I remember feeling deflated and ejecting the disc putting it in its box and I never touched it again.
Resistence is a series with spider tanks.

Pretty sure they stated just after Hale's surgery was done that the Inhibitors (Or at least the new ones) didnt work for Hale. So as far as Hale was concerned the inhibitors were useless.

The marksman is one of my favorite weapons in all of gaming.....up there with the pimpernel and lyuda. Cool weapons and crazy enemies made the resistamce series fun....the film like visualization drew you in.....and all your points were pretty accurate. Watching these I realized I never did play #3 and I can't believe it! I guess I was in grade 12 when it came out and my priorities changed but i feel like because I played 1 and 2 and loved them.. I need to play #3 now.
I loved this one the most out of the series. Gameplay wise, it was horrifying fighting the grims in the dark hallways in Chicago or the backyards of Twin Falls. The grims were my favorite enemy cause of how dangerous they were in hordes while rushing you. I never had an issue with ammo, cause a neat little trick I learned was using a gun till it was low or out of ammo then dropping it for another gun and switching again when I found a another just like the one I ditched. When you do that you get full load out of ammo including your secondaries. The guns were at their best and the combat was intense. Another thing I liked was coming across a radio once in while and listening to the DJ slowly lose his mind as the battle raged on throughout the game. The atmosphere was so thick and the game was as grim as they come. This my favorite in the series.
Fall of man was second favorite, for many of the same reasons. It wasn't quite as scary as Resistance 2 but the battles were insanely good! Fall of Man was best played in split screen co-op. Something Resistance 2 should've had but didnt. But the co-op they did have was amazing in its own right. And the pvp multi-player was fun as hell too.
biggest problem in this game that wouldve fixed some criticism was the removal of the weapon wheel and usage of a 2 weapon system which blew ass

I still enjoyed 2, played it many times, my gripe also the strange decision to remove the weapon wheel, that was really the only thing (for me) holding it back from being a proper sequel, other than that, it was a fun time.
Personally, I thought the story of R2 had more potential than R3. R3 felt like they scaled things down too much and it turned into a survival/apocalypse story. R2 ended at a point in the story where the universe could've had a major expansion into the deeper lore around the Chimera war with the other mysterious race. Like a full on space opera with humanity being caught in the middle.
I think you're right, R2 set up a whole lot of potential to go nuts with the Chimera I think maybe that gets overlooked because most think R3 is just better the R2 so certain things like that get overlooked

Recently replayed this game not long ago on the second highest difficulty and it definitely showed it's age.
I still love the story and the series, but damn the downgrades did hurt when playing though it.
I'll never be able to platinum this game, but the trophies I can get will still be a challenge.
If any in the series need a remake it's definitely this one.

I enjoyed Resistance 1 and 2 quite a bit and can remember a decent amount from them, and when it came to 3... I really can't recall what my issues were specifically but I can very distinctly remember feeling really damn bored throughout and just slogged my way through.
Very interested in seeing you cover the next game and wondering if I'll come away wanting to give it another shot or not.

Totally agree with your views, I enjoyed it and completed it in a couple of sit-downs but I had that feeling the went so "Halo" that the essence of the first game was somewhat lost.
I feel like the campaign would've been more enjoyable if they kept the coop option the other 2 have. The multiplayer was something else, I was so sad when I heard the servers went down because that was some of the most fun gameplay I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing

This game made my middle/high school times. I loved the story, adored the co-op, was fascinated by the aliens.
In all honesty, I feel that R3 had the weakest story, even if R2 had some REALLY stupid writing decisions (Hale sacrificing himself for the sake of the mission, how Daedalus escapes, teammates have no personality beyond stock action sidekick tropes). Because of all the unanswered/ignored/poorly answered questions.

Just finished Resistance 2, it seems the soldiers being infected is mostly just a macguffin excuse to have soldier drama.
I believe Hale being infected and being taken over by the hive mind is why he ignores the inhibitor treatment. Hale also likely has a personal vendetta against Daedeulus since it's basically a glimpse into the future for Hale.
Hale looses all of his men and his squad. All dead because of his leadership. That's gotta sting. I think Hale secretly wanted to die, it must be hell to constantly resist an alien virus and knowingly be used by the country and planet you swore to protect.
Capelli is freaking out and very antisocial because of his infection as well but I only learned that from an intel file.
I like R2 but I don't love it. It really stings that the coop and multiplayer servers are dead as well. I'm sure this game was legendary in it's prime. Too bad I was on Xbox, man times have changed. I'd love a remaster

This is a really good game but the visual style of the first one can’t be beat. I also think the enemy design and animations were better. That along with the weapon wheel and more horror vibe makes fall of man a masterpiece imo
Really didn't like how resistance 2 didn't have the world war 2 aesthetic and narration that the first game had.
That was an issue I noticed more now that I replayed Resistance 3 at least in regards to aesthetics. I think with the criticism's of Fall of Man being very bleak and brown they tried to brighten the game up a bit but may have gotten carried away. I do miss the narration though

I know that this is an old video and I know that this is an old videogame but really it’s a shame well that the main character from the first game dies at the end of the game and literally this franchise got forgotten for years back
Out of the 3 main games, Resistance 2 is the one I like the least.
No health bar, just 2 weapons and no split screen for the campaign set it apart from the first and third game in negative ways.
It would be interesting to see that if the Resistance games ever got a Remastered Collection, if Resistance 2 could be changed to include a health bar and carrying all weapons at the same time.
Of course with toggles to turn them off for those who liked the original game as it is.
I'd like to hope if they remade or remastered the trilogy they could add and improve on some much needed features but we'll have to wait and see if they're even interested in that project

This was the first Resistance game i played when in was a young kid. But holy shit is this game is flawed. Its not the worst game ever, it had some cool things (new chimera types, soundtrack, etc) but not enough to make it as good as the first game.
Ps: i can't talk about the multiplayer since i never got to try it myself.
100% Resistance 2 is flawed and I agree ultimately despite the improvements it does lose out to Fall of Man overall. The multiplayer was Resistance 2's big improvement over the original. Overall though, whilst I think Fall of Man is better I still had a blast replaying Resistance 2 flaws and all 😊
@@MayorHairBear I'm not going to lie, while i don't really enjoy Resistance 2 as much as i did when is was a kid, there's some cool sections in the game. That battle in Chicago were you fight alongside the SRPA is really cool.

Plz plz plz plz review the resistance games on the PSP in the PS Vita. I just got into the series, beat the first game, almost at the end of the 2nd and about the play the 3rd. I really enjoy the series, I would love the watch the reviews on your opinion on the PSP and the vita version.

I played the resistante saga back in the day and I gotta say, the saga hasn't aged pretty well (especially resistance 1), there's still some things that the 1st, 2d and 3rd game do well (especially the 2nd and 3rd) but overall, its such a waste bc some ideas and concepts if they were just executed better, this could have been a great saga. If you ask me, the first resistance should have take the point of view of the human/chimera war of the 3rd game, with this I mean a more realistic and human perspective, a more human component since the first game could have made a better story, and more interesting characters.
I miss the old ps3 days... Games which includes a cool campaign and fun multiplayer/coop.

I never played Fall of Men but 2 and 3 are one of my favorite games on ps3. It makes fun, looks good, setting, enemy design, weapons... everything is so interesting.

IMO I always found Resistance 2 to be better than the first game. Sure R2 has its drawbacks such as the 2 weapon limit which kinda sucks, thus making it kind of a clone of Call of Duty 4, or Call of Resistance as you could call it lol. But controls and gameplay wise, it does play like COD which does have the right formula for the way a tactical FPS game should play. So I always found R2 to be more enjoyable, simply because I found the game to have better gameplay than R1, and not to mention that R2 had much less drab and gray color and graphics, it’s more visually appealing, and doesn’t look quite as dated. If you go back to R1 and look at the graphics, it does have that early PS3 game look to it if you know what I mean. Not to mention about R1, I kinda find that the game drags on in length compared to the other games. So with all these things, gameplay, graphics, and too long of length, I always found that R1 is the one Resistance game that I have a hard time going back and revisiting. R2 and R3 are personally games where they made improvements upon the first game. R2 is not perfect, and is essentially the Resistance COD clone, but R3 is where they make the best of both worlds. They bring back the weapon wheel, and they bring back the health bar, which I’m finding with the later, I’m beginning to prefer FPS games where you have a health bar, such as Wolfenstein and Doom. I find it adds to the challenge.

Playing through this for the first time and I'm about halfway through. Honestly, not enjoying it. The sound and creepy atmosphere are amazing, and the gunplay is really good especially considering its age, but i find the enemies bullet spongey, and not satisfying to put down. The game seems to hold alot of nostalgia for the now young adult crowd, and criticisms are met with a fair bit of internet hostility lol. I don't care though, everyone's taste is different. Maybe my opinion will change once i complete the campaign, but for now on a "is it fun" scale, I'd rate it a 6/10.

Resistance 2 was not as good as 1 because of no weapon wheel, the healing is different and co op different. Should have kept it the same as the first one with updated graphics and new weapon and story then perfect. Part 3 really took a slide back.

Resistance 2 felt unfinished to me
So I'm replaying Resistance 2, and wanted to hear someone else's thoughts on the game. You wanted to know why some consider it bad, so I will explain. I consider it bad because many aspects of its design are frustrating to deal with, rather than being fun to engage with. The two weapon limit doesn't just preclude experimenting, it removes combat and gameplay options when you desperately need them. So many encounters that are already poorly thought out, become nightmares with limited weapon choice. The checkpoints don't make these cheap deaths any less maddening. The 3 titans in the park is one example of an atrociously designed fight. If there's a rocket launcher available for that, I never found it. That's also not the only fight with instant death exploding cars placed everywhere. The limited gameplay, cheap level design/enemy placement, and molasses movement speed just make this game a tiresome slog. There's also less intel to pick up, so isn't even much lore for me to chew on. You also touched on the limited ammo, but didn't mention that returning weapons from the first game have had magazine size and max ammo reduced. The carbine and bullseye have had the mag size halved. So dying because you need to reload your tiny 30 round magazine happens a lot. You generally die very quickly so it just makes the gameplay very passive hiding behind cover and hoping you don't die randomly before the slow health regen kicks in. You can also just die instantly even if you're at full health. This happens a lot and is not what I consider fun. I'm at the Iceland tower now which is past the point where the game introduces any new weapons or enemies. Its all the same shit going forward and I'm sick of it.
Yeah, this is the worst of the series for me personally... while the campaign had a decent structure, I really didn't like most combat encounters, as enemies are too spongy that make some weapons (which you can carry only two at a time) feel useless, and visuals seemed too confusing due to the highly saturated colors and contrast. Co-op is fun, though.
Yeah this one was a let down, I still enjoyed the game (wish I could have revisited the multi-player!) but yeah a disappointing revisit for sure

Resistance 2 def has one of the best endings in gaming ever but also has the most generic gameplay out of the 3 games. Removing the weapon wheel and focusing on CoD style ADS shooting killed a lot of the soul.
Beating Resistance 2 in Normal Difficulty was one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

obviously capelli didnt trust hale at first and after all the battles they fought in the end he respected him as a his leader and was sorry he had to take him out and wished it could have been different thats why he said its been an honor this game is anazing they should do a reboot from russian perspective of how they tried to fight and lost because in every game they loose the british loose the americans loose you can expand upon this game so much
