My idea for Athena’s change in personality is that she was just always like that. She like the other gods used kratos and didn’t give him what he wanted in return. She needed to be on kratos’ good side so she can use him to get what she wants. The reason why she doesn’t just let him kill Zeus in 2 is because she needs him to get rid of all of the gods and if he killed Zeus there, he would’ve stopped. she needs all of the gods gone so she can use Pandora’s box to essentially rebuild Olympus in her image and have full control
Another reason I think she sacrificed herself is because she thought kratos didn't have the power of hope and if kratos killed zeus he would've come back in his spirit form and demolish kratos
It's refreshing to see someone who adores this game as much as I do, by far my favourite PS4 game (alongside Bloodborne). The newer GOW games don't hold a candle to it

Just the sheer magnitude of how permanent Kratos intends to put the gods out of their corrupt misery. at the time me beating this game I had no Knowledge of the Lore at the time. But I wanted Kratos to enact his vengeance so much. I cheered this boy before I knew who he was.
GOW3 is not only one of my favourite games ever made, but it is one of my favourite pieces of entertainment ever produced. I'm not talking about just games, I'm talking overall, it's one of the best artistic pursuits I've ever come across. I've watched many movies/tv series, read many books/manga/comics, and played many games. I'd put GOW3 there as my favourite entertainment product. GOW3 did everything right for me. It hit every personal chord in my heart. As a fan of Greek mythology, I appreciate it so much.
Great and detailed review, this game really is an absolute tour de force of epic spectacular action and brutal, violent combat. GOW 3, along with GOW 2, are hands down the best GOW games.
Admittedly this is where I left the series. Never played Ascension, and I tried the 2018 game and couldn't get into it. Leaving it here though was probably for the best.
I think if you were to walk away from the series after GOW 3 makes sense but personally I really enjoyed the series afterwards as well. God of War 2018 like yourself I struggled to get into personally but Ascension and Ghost of Sparta I had a good time with back in the day

after recently completing bloodborne finally. 1st FromSoft game beaten right....im 38. I loved it because of the sound, gore, lighting, level design, etc. I just watched GOW retrospectives of 1-2 w both psp versions as well. THIS CAME OUT and it was lighting n shadows plus gore and EVERYTHING AT ITS BEST
To me, this game felt like a true cinematic experience. It was at its all time high: bigger stakes, more grandious setpieces, the locations and the characters, the heart-pumping vocals and music. If there is one word that truly describes GOW3, it would be: EPIC. And by that, I mean the original meaning: long, grand, definitive. It was a game of its time: one of the best hack-n-slashes and a great conclusion to the trilogy of the main GOW titles. To this day, we still dont know what happened with Kratos after he disappeared from that cliff at the end. Awesome review as always, bud. You didnt disappoint and the game sure did not disappoint you, haha! I hope you had an amazing time with Kratos as he finished his vengeance. Next up is Ghost of Sparta, I hope. Which to me felt like a true main title, even if it was originally on the PSP. We see more unique locations, characters, Kratos grows as a character, its all great fun. Cant wait!

After the epic finale of GOW3, we had Ascension which felt 'odd'. The best way I could describe Ascension is like its an older title, with GOW3 graphics. It will be interesting to see yours viewpoints on that game as a whole. Interesting, that's for sure.

I still remember getting a PS3 with God of War 3 for Christmas and spending half a day just going through it. Marveling at the the graphics and the aura of epicness that oozed out of it. It was probably the best Christmas I've had. So maybe it's a little bit of nostalgia speaking, but GoW3 is my fave out of the series and right after it I would place the PSP GoWs. Daaaamn were they fun!

I remember i had a bug during a fight with Zeus inside of Gaya. He started cloning himself non stop. So after 15 minutes of fighting clones of Zeus i noticed smth wasn't right cuz it was my 5th or 6th playthrough. And such my playthrough ended because next time i tried launching it, i noticed that CD has been damaged;( What a great game👌
some pointers: the weapons are all similar so that it'd be easier to code and animate them, given that they already have a framework with the blades of exile (gauntlets included) The Claws' soul summons don't have an AI, they're meant to be more of a disjointed attack to lengthen a combo or to hit enemies while you're already focusing on another one I feel the complaint of not knowing the new weapons is moot, as it'd apply to every game that has appeared in the series: sure the blades of exile are reliable since you had the chance to learn their combos in the previous games, but it doesn't change the fact the new weapons are there to vary the experience and give the player a toolkit to perform lobger and stronger combos by employing each weapon's specialty, like the Claws' great single-target damage and the Whip's ability to stunlock enemies, its counter and its mobile attacks and the Nemean Gauntlets' grapple attacks and AOE slams
Man. This game reminds me when I bought the game in the bundle of 5 freaking games for $20. Good times. Wrecking havoc with the fists is always a good memory.
Man I remember my friends and I being SO pumped for this game. I introduced them all to gaming in general when RE4 came out and showed them God of War. Everyone fell in love with it and we were counting down the days. I still remember how excited everyone was with every new gory death and new weapon. Years later I found out my current girlfriend loves this game and we play them together now. And geez, the graphics on this have held up remarkably well over the years. It still looks absolutely phenomenal.

Question: at the very end of god of war 3 (playing through for the first time and going for the platinum) when ur fighting Zeus in his second faze at the top of mount Olympus Gaia shows up and starts yapping but Zeus says in the cut scene .He says ur pawn didn’t work you should’ve chosen the other one. Is he talking about Krato’s brother ?
After playing all main GoW games, I can tell GoW3 is my favourite one. It’s rather a personal pick, but anyways I see this game as a very special experience. It makes me revive my Ps3 era where I started playing videogames, also the messages of hope and revenge are very strong even if the plot is a bit off sometimes… I spare so many things of this game, and still it’s got something very special

Adult me is ashamed to think kid me thought Ares was the hardest final boss in the series. Sure I had a rage montage during the illusion segment, but Zeus was literally healing mid fight…and he was moving faster than my TV’s frame rate could display (which reminds me I need to upgrade)
Nah, as someone who has played the whole series recently (apart from Ascension), Ares WAS the hardest boss fight lol. Specifically the 3rd phase, where you have to use the bridge-sword. I played on normal, and I almost threw the controller. I played GoW 3 and psp games on hard for achievements, and while they were challenging at least they were, mostly, fair. While the Ares fight, you made one mistake, and he had full healtbar again while you were almost dying
God of War 3 was the first game with this kind of perspective i have played on my uncle's PS3. And also the first game i experienced in game nudity with Aphrodite. But also the first game i had to watch a video for on how to unlock the achievement where you needed to reach a certain combo and it was only possible with the claws of hades
Pandoras Box poisoned all/most the gods, I think. Zeus with fear, Athena with greed, Hera with gluttony ( i think) etc. There was a whole list somewhere around the internet but I can't remember it right now
Real talk is this games opening potentially the best opening to a game? Like ever?! Because at the time I remember this game also being one of the best looking games created to that point. If you had the 55in 1080p screen you was feeling extra dope playing that Poseidon scene out. Agreed the most insane L3 + R3 we’ve gotten yet 😂
I still say 2 was better. 3 had the best combat,but 2 was superior in exploring,story and enemy variety. let's hope ragnarok reach at least close to that number.

Hades was fine in gow 1 to kratos for killing persephone because persephone literally tried to destroy olympus, but then after he got corrupted by evils of pandora's box he became insane

I do prefer the Norse GoW games for the controls/camera as well as the depth and detail of the world and its inhabitants, but out of any hack n slash the GoW trilogy is definitely the best. Such a great character, so much dramatic flair ^^

I just realized giving the power of hope to humanity means humans can surpass the gods. Atheism. Also, is it possible that Kratos killing himself only meant he removed hades' soul thus Kratos lives? Was Hera drunk over Hephaestus' death?
I am interested in playing the God of War trilogy. My only issue is I only have a PS4 and due to that I only have access to 3 from the classic trilogy. I usually have a hard time just playing a random game in franchise especially when they are connected. Part of me wonders if I should just play 3 or just wait for the trilogy to eventually get rereleased again. I’d love to hear your opinion or thoughts.
I think you can easily jump right into 3 and have a great time. Obviously I recommend if you want to get into the series to play the lot if possible but if not, 3 is in my opinion the one that needs to be played

I still personally think god of war 2 is better. The combat, the pacing, the resolution (as in the story) it feels more thightly enclosed together. But god of war 3 is indeed, objectively the best one. But subjectively, I much rather prefer god of war 2
That's completely understandable mate, God of War 2 is an incredible game and I'd actually put it just under God of War 3 personally which wasn't the case before I started revisiting the series. The series has some great games though and everyone's personal favourite is going to be different.

So just today I beat God of War 3, and....well I think the game is......um....... Ok I just gonna drop the ball and just let it out right now, O did not enjoy God of War 3, as a matter of fact, its not only my least favorite game in the God of War Trilogy, but it's also one of my least favorite games in general, the story gets unpleasant at times, its weapon selection feels ruth, the level design is Sonic Unleashed (as in the X-Box version) levels of pure bullshit and rage, and its difficulty is pure brutal, heck the last three bosses, Skorpius, Cerberus and Zeus were HUMANGUST pains in the asses and took me Mutiple tries to beat, and I was playing this game on the NORMAL difficulty. I'm sorry if you guys love this game, if you all love Gpd of Wart 3, that's fine I totally get it, and I really did want to like this game, I REALLY really did, but this game has many moments that really drove me nuts, and while I might replay this game, I think I'm gonna stick with God of Wars 1 & 2.

For me, Hades fight is the best and most memorable in the whole series. The set up, the tension and how Hades start the fight is really stunning. ❤️

Unfortunately this was my first god of war game that I beat. It set my standards so high that God of War 1 and 2 didn't impress me as much.

Adult me is ashamed to think kid me thought Ares was the hardest final boss in the series. Sure I had a rage montage during the illusion segment, but Zeus was literally healing mid fight…and he was moving faster than my TV’s frame rate could display (which reminds me I need to upgrade)
The hardest final boss for me was Persephone in Chains of Olympus. She was so cheap!
Nah, as someone who has played the whole series recently (apart from Ascension), Ares WAS the hardest boss fight lol. Specifically the 3rd phase, where you have to use the bridge-sword. I played on normal, and I almost threw the controller. I played GoW 3 and psp games on hard for achievements, and while they were challenging at least they were, mostly, fair. While the Ares fight, you made one mistake, and he had full healtbar again while you were almost dying
God of War 3 was the first game with this kind of perspective i have played on my uncle's PS3. And also the first game i experienced in game nudity with Aphrodite. But also the first game i had to watch a video for on how to unlock the achievement where you needed to reach a certain combo and it was only possible with the claws of hades

Pandoras Box poisoned all/most the gods, I think. Zeus with fear, Athena with greed, Hera with gluttony ( i think) etc. There was a whole list somewhere around the internet but I can't remember it right now

Real talk is this games opening potentially the best opening to a game? Like ever?! Because at the time I remember this game also being one of the best looking games created to that point. If you had the 55in 1080p screen you was feeling extra dope playing that Poseidon scene out. Agreed the most insane L3 + R3 we’ve gotten yet 😂

The boss fights are much better on the Very Hard game mode, hell this games combat is much better too

Hades was fine in gow 1 to kratos for killing persephone because persephone literally tried to destroy olympus, but then after he got corrupted by evils of pandora's box he became insane

In regards to scores, that's not really my style as then despite how glowing or less so I am about a game people just focus on the number which is just not worth the trouble. With that being said I will be ranking the series once we've wrapped up with God of War 2018
I do prefer the Norse GoW games for the controls/camera as well as the depth and detail of the world and its inhabitants, but out of any hack n slash the GoW trilogy is definitely the best. Such a great character, so much dramatic flair ^^

@@MayorHairBear as I was watching it I just never noticed that I never realized the similarities in blood graphics and shadows to something like bloodborne. Its totally the darkest and most mature looking. Never put together that none of the others were so colorful compared

I am interested in playing the God of War trilogy. My only issue is I only have a PS4 and due to that I only have access to 3 from the classic trilogy. I usually have a hard time just playing a random game in franchise especially when they are connected. Part of me wonders if I should just play 3 or just wait for the trilogy to eventually get rereleased again. I’d love to hear your opinion or thoughts.
I think you can easily jump right into 3 and have a great time. Obviously I recommend if you want to get into the series to play the lot if possible but if not, 3 is in my opinion the one that needs to be played
Use emulators to play GoW 1 and 2. Vimm is the best and safest place to geg games and emulators.
Buy yourself a PS3, they're cheap as chips and a blu ray player to boot

Honestly what set me off from GOW Norse is the soundtrack. There is no memorable soundtrack. Combat in norse is great though.

I still personally think god of war 2 is better. The combat, the pacing, the resolution (as in the story) it feels more thightly enclosed together. But god of war 3 is indeed, objectively the best one. But subjectively, I much rather prefer god of war 2
That's completely understandable mate, God of War 2 is an incredible game and I'd actually put it just under God of War 3 personally which wasn't the case before I started revisiting the series. The series has some great games though and everyone's personal favourite is going to be different.
I agree Gow 3 has better gameplay and graphics but 2 has a way better story and slightly better boss battles as well imo.

So just today I beat God of War 3, and....well I think the game is......um.......
Ok I just gonna drop the ball and just let it out right now, O did not enjoy God of War 3, as a matter of fact, its not only my least favorite game in the God of War Trilogy, but it's also one of my least favorite games in general, the story gets unpleasant at times, its weapon selection feels ruth, the level design is Sonic Unleashed (as in the X-Box version) levels of pure bullshit and rage, and its difficulty is pure brutal, heck the last three bosses, Skorpius, Cerberus and Zeus were HUMANGUST pains in the asses and took me Mutiple tries to beat, and I was playing this game on the NORMAL difficulty.
I'm sorry if you guys love this game, if you all love Gpd of Wart 3, that's fine I totally get it, and I really did want to like this game, I REALLY really did, but this game has many moments that really drove me nuts, and while I might replay this game, I think I'm gonna stick with God of Wars 1 & 2.
