    I switched from a cintiq 13hd to a xp-pen artist 15.6 pro a few years ago and honestly haven't thought about going back to Wacom since. I've even had a chance to demo the cintiq 16 in person and while it is quite nice it's just simply not worth the massive price jump imo, especially having to pay extra for a stand and lacking physical keys. The physical dial for zooming on the XP-Pen is also really satisfying and nice to work with. Wacom is pretty much the Apple of the drawing tablet industry, super overpriced.

    • @mikeymegamega
      @mikeymegamega  2 года назад +25

      yeah XP really stepped up over the last 4 years - I enjoyed the super thin innovator 16 of theirs too! the problem is that Wacom still lead when it comes to the feeling of the pen on the screen when working!

      @@mikeymegamega Agreed, I do feel like the pressure sensitivity on the Wacom tablets feels slightly more nuanced and the matte film on the Cintiq 16 is much nicer to draw on than the stock XP-Pen gloss. Nothing compares to the etched glass on the Cintiq Pro tablets, but replacing the stock film on my XP-Pen with a scratch resistant paper/matte texture one from Photodon made it feel great to work on. Putting it on took some skill and effort but it's worth the upgrade imo. Both tablets definitely have their pros and cons, some healthy competition is a good thing ;)

    I've got a Wacom cintiq 16 last year, and I'm a part time digital artist so I use it a lot. Only issues I've found with mine,besides those you already had mentioned (stand, glove etc) I feel like the default screen texture wears out too quickly when getting constantly used, the nibs are very fragile and wear off much faster on the texturized screen. I started panicking because I thought I had been applying too much pressure and lowered the strength settings so it gets lighter on touch, i use most precision with Lineart but it didn't make sense to me on how the screen was starting to look worn in less than a week. So i got a screen protector and it has been sparing the nibs but loses that texture feel. Besides these 2 issues i think it's a great device and I absolutely love mine, the compatibility with all drawing software I use is amazing, the strokes are smooth and I love the lines that this pen is able to make, unlike my old Wacom bamboo. I highly recommend this tablet for more advanced art.

    I grew up with a Wacom, the intuos to be precise. I recall having a great time with it before Wacom got their not so good reputation. So it is kinda sad to see them becoming the thing they are now. It does not help that the next tablet I used was a BOSTO 16HD which honestly after a while the driver died on me 6 times and the color was bad then I switch to XP PEN and while it was good, the pen delay, driver and etc just made me wish I used a wacom. I went back to my old wacom and one of my lads even lend me his Wacom cintiq 16 for a while and I honestly love it. Basically, I want to love Wacom, but they are not making it easy for me.

  • @deina_r

    I just upgraded my Wacom Intuos small to Intuos Pro medium. I tested it right away by drawing over a sketch to compare the lines, and I don’t know if I should regret it or not. There is no difference, and the old tablet worked just as well. I only noticed that Intuos Pro only has better pen pressure, so I don’t have to draw over again several times.
    But I might aswell just have bought a Cintiq 16 😐

    After using this tablet for about a year, I can tell anyone... Stay away from this model. My setup is mostly about being mobile so that I can move around the house. it is a pain; the tablet itself is bulky and heavy, and the pen is very inaccurate in terms of pressure control. The connecter cable is a joke with a separate HDMI , USB, and proprietary power connector instead of a USB-C. The tilt is pretty good, though. I had to spend a good amount of time to calibrate everything as it should be. The resolution is full HD, which is not bad for a tablet this size, but when I've used it for a bit, I whished for more screen real estate and a higher resolution. Also, it's not all that cheap; you're paying premium just for the Wacom logo.
    TLDR;
    Stay away from this one, buy an XP-Pen or Huion, and you'll get a better deal in this price range.

  • @nikolaikai940
    @nikolaikai940 2 года назад +5

    Paying a premium price and then getting that kind of incompetent (if not malicious with the blocking) customer service and the lack of peripherals kinda goes to show Wacom's feeling the pressure from Huion and XP-Pen and is learning _all_ the wrong lessons from it.

    • @mikeymegamega
      @mikeymegamega  2 года назад +4

      not malicious, but I got the feeling that the staff are trained to challenge any complaints first before then addressing them - but thats just the vibe I got, i dont know that for a fact!

      @nikolaikai940 2 года назад +3

      @@mikeymegamega I've seen other companies' customer "support" pull stunts like that. Solving the problem by gaslighting the customer into thinking there isn't one tells me they're more concerned with keeping costly repairs and replacements down, rather than customer satisfaction up. Especially in combination with their twitter staff blocking customers who voice complaints that's not a good look.
      Malicious might be too strong a word for that, but to me that's anti-customer behavior that indicates they're trying to get away with some underhanded business practices, coasting on their shiny brand name, instead of doing the right thing putting their paying customer first.
      I'm happy XP-Pen and Huion have really stepped up the last couple of years in terms of closing the tech gap between them and Wacom. Hopefully they'll soon reach the same level of being a household name, finally lighting a fire under Wacom's ass to get their shit together.

  • @SilvyReacts
    @SilvyReacts 2 года назад +5

    Honestly, ever since I have used Huion, going back to Wacom just seems so unnecessary given the price difference. And that sentiment seems to be quite common these days as Huion and XP-Pen have really stepped up their game and caught up quite close with Wacom.

    • @mikeymegamega
      @mikeymegamega  2 года назад +2

      it was the low pressure feather light touch that was the pen problem, but the replacement they sent was fine. as for the stand you're right it does indeed 'click' into place i wasn't clear - but it does not snap/lock in securely, it all still flexes under weight!

    I bought Cintiq 16 over two years ago. As much as I enjoy using it, after a year it got a cloud of stuck pixels in the place where your hand usually is. I got it replaced and then, a year later, the same thing happened. I had no issues in getting the replacements, but I'm not really looking forward to going through the process every year. I hear the newest version might not have this issue, but I'll probably be saving money to buy a different one if this thing happens again.
    Other than that, the display is really good and I like that it's touchscreen, but there's no doubt a lot of the price is for the Wacom name itself. Whenever I decide to buy a bigger one, it's probably going to be an XP Pen.

    I got a chance to use this tablet for a week before as well, and I guess my way of drawing or something must be different than a lot of other reviewers because honestly, I couldn't understand why anyone would say it was better than competitors. The Huion tablet i was using at that time felt exactly the same, while also including shortcut keys, a smudge glove, a stand, and a pen that works right out of the box. Not sure if it's just me, but after trying multiple Wacom products over my career, both older models like the original Cintiq 22, it's replacement, the 13hd, the Wacom One, and then this tablet, i can honestly say i have no need to ever switch to Wacom. I'd be more likely to just continue to upgrade with Huion, who has become my favorite. Guess it just comes down to personal differences in drawing feel, not sure, just been my experience over my career.

    At the beginning of the year I decided to finally upgrade from my Wacom Intuos Small Pen and Touch to a Pen Display. When making big purchases I look at every product around the budget I had and take my time watching reviews, finding problems etc.
    I had a choice between Wacom Cintiq 16 and Huion 22 Plus (they cost about the same)
    I almost bought the Wacom Cintiq 16 but the fact that it came with no stand was a deal breaker I also wanted more screen space
    The only problem with the Huion is that some of the blue hues a little bit off but besides that I am happy with It.
    I always wanted a Cintiq but I just couldn't afford one, they are expensive and so are their peripherals.

      Yeah i have one currently and i do personally agree with ur choice. Its a great tablet but it has its flaws. Like sometimes when you connect it to a windows device it sometimes looks a bit foggy, of course you can change that in settings but it still might look the same, (it might take some time for ur eyes to adjust to). And of course the un-inclusion of a proper stand, art glove and certain wires like usb-c for PC's that might not have an hdmi, (i had to purchase on twice cause the first one didn't fit 😭)

    I've been wathcing a lot of your videos today, i really like the reference points, shapes and all the guides you make in your sketches, i was traying to put them in practice but at sertain point i tryed to draw a widespread pose, and the guides you used in your videos about how to draw hips, waist and thighs, actually don't work in that specific pose, i would really love a tuto of how to draw a widespread pose, although i already managed to draw it, it took me a bit more of time than usual, i ereased and ctrl+z a hundred of times XD, so yeah, thanks if yo do so.

    Mikey is not a sellout, he tells the truth of any product he reviews. I think Wacom is the equivalent of Apple when it comes to prices, yes they have the best quality but is not worth it for that huge price difference imo.

    I own one but haven't used it in two years. My navigation on CSP and set up was full of mistakes while my drawing skill from paper and pencil was like a 7 at best I immediately dropped down to a one and felt bitter. I want to get back into using it again and following guides on my errors but work and college made it difficult to fix my problems.
    Personally I'm happy it got a positive review from you and many others so my investment doesn't feel wasted. I know digital art is the future when you want to get into commissions and making your own professional work. I'm done with college this summer so hoping to fix my issues with all the available time.

    Amazing review! I was actually thinking of getting a 16 inch tablet to upgrade from my 13 inch one I have right now. I was looking at getting the xp pen artist pro 16 or possibly saving up a little more for the cintiq 16. Which one should I spend my money on?

    Hey Mikey. I've got the same tablet. The antigloss/protective layer above the screen, the very thin plastic or something, wears down quite quickly, and it has a slight texture change. Both in feel, and and in gloss. I can now see my reflection if the background is black, and it is quite scratched. Not sure if its only mine, or if you notice this too? I've taken extra care to be careful with it, and to keep it clean (wipe it down before use etc).

    This is actually my first Tablet, I don't have much knowledge about drawing tablets in terms of difference and quality but I'd find it smooth to use causally and great for drawing.
    How I got it is a good friend of mine recommended the cintiq for me and at the time I was in luck because it was on a special sale.
    I do have some minor concerns but overall it was great!

    I had this one for a short while and sold it. It is really cumbersome to use, because on a screen this compact the pen lag and screen gap really make the drawing experience uncomfortable. I'd recommend the 22 of this same product line, though I've seen some reviews say that the screen wears out badly in the middle, so maybe not that either. Personally I'm waiting for some other brands to catch up, because I think Wacom has gotten too comfortable at the top lately and hasn't done any solid innovating in a while.
