Its funny how nobody mentions how these fall out in their videos. Thanks for showing the solution.
I don’t get it either. Just better to be honest and try to come up with a fix.
Nicely done! Nice touch on adding the tabs, it seems like Lippert would add them. Danny and Lynn
Thanks guys! Nice channel! I subbed, check our other videos out and if you enjoy them we would love to have you as a sub!
Thank you for this! We need this! Great idea on the filler pieces! I’m glad you told us how to measure it too! Perfect! Thanks
Thanks guys!
Excellent video! I bought this before seeing this video and almost trashed it because it would not stay in the door. I made these modifications you show here and it stays now! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Awesome idea for the tabs on the filler piece! I was going to use a small screw to lock it in place but I like your idea way better.
Glad it helped Andrew.
Great tips with the tabs and measuring
Thank you, hope it helps and thanks for watching guys.
Thank you! I was having same issue with screen protector popping out when we would close the door. I figured if it’s that easy to come off, the dog will surely pull it off by scratching at it. So I did the tab trick and it worked great. 👍👍
Glad it worked, thanks Joshua.
Fantastic video and exactly what I was looking for to hold the bottom piece in place. Thanks
Glad it helped
IF we had that kind of door we would definitely look into this. Thanks for the information Coming from FB! 👍 21
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the added tip regarding adding the tabs to the plastic spacers. I used your tip and it worked great.
Glad it helped, its odd though right? it just doesnt stay in the door, im surprised nobody has have talked about this.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Yup totally agree with you.
Great simple mod. I’m sure I’ll have to do the same. Thx!
Great video. Appreciate the tip, literally just did this and worked great. Thank you
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for posting!
You bet!
Fantastic Video ,Thanks .
Our pleasure!
genius! I thought I installed wrong because the stupid pieces popped out!
glad to help!
My compliments to your video and a little creativity to resolve an issue! One thing you didn't mention was the size of your door which is about 27 1/2 inches and didn't state that you went with a 28 inch screen. I have a 23 inch on my RV and from what I'm gathering a 24 inch would work. There's a problem that has come to question. I've read reviews on Amazon and many comments were the Lippert screen defender, only fits on RV's that have Lippert RV screen doors. I looked at the label on my screen door and it just has the RV manufacturers name. Online shopping has it's drawbacks because, there's no customer service with knowledgeable people that can give the answer we need! Maybe, I can contact Lippert, directly for a definitive answer?
I like the idea, and it seems more elegant than some other ideas I've had. But I'm left with questions.
Is this a replacement for the existing screen? The online manual isn't clear.
Are Lippert doors labelled as such? Or will this work for other makes? (We have a 22' 2021 Jayflight and I don't know the door manufacturer.)
Is it mosquito, fly, and wasp proof?
the existing screen will remain on the door. Im not sure if this will work on screen doors that are not made by Lippert, thats a great question. the screen defender is not bug proof, the holes are larger than the factory screen, but since the factory screen stays in, you still wont have to worry about bugs. Thanks for watching and commenting Jeff!
Great video and a handy tip. I just installed the screen. But, I am not sure I will need to add the DIY tabs. Before I locked in the top tabs of the screen, I pressed the bottom rail of the screen tight into the channel on top of the spacer. I slammed the screen door hard a couple of times and the spacer stayed in place. I'll give it a little time and see if holds. If not, it's nice to have a backup plan.
Thanks Mike. I did that too, for some reason the spacer at the bottom of the door was actually the part that was coming out. Glad it worked for you. Thanks for watching bud.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I think I see the difference in how you used spacers vs how I did. The kit I got had 4 total spacers. There was a male/female pair of each size. When I stop your video at the 1:54 mark, it looks like you are using 2 large FEMALE spacers and put the front part of the channel into the bottom of the top female spacer. Because I have only 1 large female spacer, I couldn't create the same configuration.
its odd right Mike? i think the different factory door sizes makes this installation different for some folks. i wanted the top of the fence to be all the way at the highest point it could go, so I had to use what I used, and couldnt use anything more or less. i've been a DIY guy my whole life and no other combination worked for covering the whole area and staying in the door.
Thank you for the video! I have to use the 2 big pieces as my height difference is 3 7/8". How and where did you get the spacers from? I tried to cut the smaller piece but it is so small and very hard to cut. Thank you
Edward, everything I used in that video came with the screen, except the glue. I’ve heard from a few people that parts have been missing too.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I had 4 pieces. 2 large and 2 small ones. Used the 2 large for the opening and had to cut a small one but it’s like a sliver. Just went to Lowes and bought gorilla glue to fasten the small sliver. Thank you. Excellent video.
glad you got it figured out!
I have a pit bull who loves people but is reactive to some (but not all) dogs. Is this screen saver strong enough to keep her from going through the screen? (I'm adding a lock to keep the door closed.)
Hey Susan, I couldn’t confidently tell you how much force it would need to bust through that screen, but the way that it locks in there and with the modification I show in the video I would imagine it would take some serious pressure to break that thing. As you mentioned, I would be more concerned with the door opening before the screen broke. So your idea of putting a lock on the screen door is great. Another little trick is to collapse your handle so it’s in front of the screen door so if it does open it will only open so far. Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching!
My screen door frame measures 25 inches. Would the 26 inch fit?
correct, this one should do it! amzn.to/369PIXa
So I know it’s width but where do you measure to and from? I went across and got 22 3/4 inches from one inside to the other does that mean it’s a 23 because of the grooves?
Jamb to jamb like I measured in the video. You will need a 24”.
I purchased one from the dealer. They measured and ordered it. I got a 24" . After watching your video I took my own measurement of the door opening. It measured 25 1/2"
by rounding up I would need a 26" protector. Correct? Secondly my screen on a challenger door, is splined on the inside of the door where the protector should slide in. Am I missing something on the install other that size
Is your door manufactured by LCI (Lippert)?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS no it is not. It's a Challenger door
John, it might not work if it doesn’t look like the door in the video, unfortunately.
Great fix for the problem. The slightest hard slam of the screen door and the plastic spacer falls out
hope it helped!
We measured the door and the screen appears to be the right width, but the guides in the side are too small for the screen defender tabs. Any ideas?
Join RV tips and travels on FB, then post a picture of the guides next to the door so I can figure something out for you.
Same problem on my 2022 Northern Spirit. Bottom tabs are a tad too short!! Bummer
I measure 27 1/4 door opening do I need a 28' kit
yes
Just recieved the Screen Defender yesterday. Im so upset, the filler pieces were cut short and at an angle. You were right about it falling out. You would think for a price of over 60.00, they would have designed something better
Send it back and get another Carol! I agree for the money these should be built better.
I contacted Lippert, and sent pictures and proof of purchase. We will see if they replace the parts or not.
How do I replace a short screen door sweep?
Rose, would probably be better if I could see it, can you send a couple pictures to rvtipsandtravels@gmail.com
I have an imagine as well I wonder in the doors are the same size... what size did you buy if you don’t mind me asking. I’m going to be measuring mine tonight and ordering next week as I had to return the crap one I ordered that required drilling and were not stable at all. Not to mention my puppy could still tear straight through the others. Super excited to order these for my two doors!
Amanda, as I did in the video, measure your door jamb and respond back with the measurements. I’ll give you direct links to the sizes you need.
Very good video. But my Rv has the slips on outside of the screen so this product doesn’t work
Thanks for watching Brent.
Was told by several people that this would work on a dexter door and it doesn’t, just letting everyone know. My frame opening is 29 1/4” I choose the 30” kippers defense screen and it’s 1/4” to big
Thanks for the input Brian, definitely needs to be a Lippert manufactured door from what I understand.
I just put a thin layer of clear gorilla glue on bottom edge of door...holds adapter in solid
I’ve ordered one of these and measured the door frame but the bottom tabs are still about 1/4 too short and I can’t get the bottom to lock in. The top sliders work perfect. Might have to engineer something I think.
thats odd since they should stick out at the same width. Let me know what you come up with or if you need help.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS will do! Going to attempt today again and will get some video! You’re on FB?

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I posted in your face book group with some pics and details!
Simply fit the plastic adapters together that you need then reverse them inside out when you install them.
Hey Jason, I tried that too. They still popped out on the other side. Plus the back of the plastic pieces were visible inside the rv being that they were reversed and it looked like crap.
I bought one, it is to heavy for the door. I sent it back, bought some hardware cloth and screwed it over the screen after repairing it. I have two Jack Russell who tore up the screen.
you bought the lippert one? mine is extremely light, its all plastic, even the screen.
My rv doesn't have a kick plate so what do you do? I called camping world and they were like yeah, that sucks!
Joe, what do you mean by kick plate? Do you mean the threshold on the floor?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS yes, the plate at the bottom of the screen door, my door is entirely screen
What year make and model do you have, I’ll look it up.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS 2022 mallard m26
I’ll see what I can find
Is there not a DIY for this??
yes, some people use mesh screens and cut them to fit.
Good job, but customers should not have to reengineer a product sold for a specific product made by the same manufacturer.
totally agree, thats why I made the video. Some folks may be out of the return period so this will get them up and running for a product they already paid for.
These directions are wrong. The screen comes with 4 inset pieces. 2 male and 2 female. Pick which of the two sizes you want to use and slide them together. Then place them in the opening. They will never fall out.
They dont lock into the bottom of the door. I know what you’re saying, and the screen sets into the filler pieces, but the filler pieces fall out of the bottom of the door. Also, any other combination of pieces would not fit in my door and completely cover the entire space. Maybe it’s my door size as I’ve seen many others where the screen alone fills the gap, and also 1 filler piece fills the gap. On my door you can clearly see that both large pieces are needed, and nothing else will fit in addition to those pieces. If I did what you’re sayin mg to do on my door I have a gap which defeats the purpose of a screen. Hope that makes sense.
