Oh boy, 17 years after I went from 15 to 32 and this guy gave me joy to encounter locals. That I did for 10 years. I just miss Tokyo and Brisbane.. This guy did that before even smartphone and 3G were there...
Wow thanks for sharing. I was 21 when I saw this back then and am now almost 40 years old... really puts things in perspective... Everyone should see this and travel to at least 5 countries as a requirement, but unfortunately it can't happen...
I know a lot of great things have happened over the last two decades... but there's a big part of me that wishes it stayed like this for just a little longer.
Back in the good old days of RUclips. Everyone was doing it for fun and it wasn’t all just a massive profit game like it is today. I feel like the only real competition was a friendly challenge, to see who could make the coolest and most creative video, with the most effort put into it. I would say, Matt definitely wins with this timeless masterpiece!
It's a bit more complicated then that. There were RUclipsrs interested in profit but it wasn't their motive. On top of that it didn't feel like anyone was trying to discredit anyone else. Drama, political, and conspiracy channels are bloody everywhere these days and they always seem to rely on propaganda to push their ideals. Put simply, they're channels that cause damage but believe they're preventing it. Thankfully, wholesome videos like Matts are still around but they don't get as much publicity as the videos that make people angry, which is a crying shame to say the least. Mr Safety still uploads to SMPFilms as well as LiveEachDay and generally his videos are wholesome and, as of recent, educational (he has started teaching 3D animation).
Back when RUclips was a place to go to make your day better to inspire creativity with no stress no fakeness and most importantly NO DRAMA!!!!. This man has touched me emotionally. I miss this RUclips, LONG LIVE MATT HARDING AND RUclips 2006!!!! you have infected me with the travel bug.
I was 20 when I first saw this. 5 years later I started traveling the world, each trip pushing my boundaries to the unknown. I owe much of my curiosity to this video. Thanks Matt.
Man I was 15 when I first came across this and it had such a profound effect on me. Watched it at least once a month for years and was so determined that I wanted to spend my 20's essentially being a travelling nomad. Wanted first and foremost to go to South America but met and fell in love with a Colombian at home before I could go.. so a part of South America came to me in the end. haha.
Me too. I found my way to London and then Paris and then in Germany I picked up the _Hippie Trail..._ 2 years later and nearly 30lbs lighter I made it all the way to Goa! Thank you Matt!! (I wouldn't even think about trying the Khyber Pass again, not these days!!)
California was last weekend, just happened ( I couldn't make it... :( ). I think there s some west coast ones planned in coming weeks but I dont have the details.
These are a part of my life. Growing up to these. The music - so nostalgic. At 12 i’d sit and watch these for hours on repeat. Never knew why. Now i see. Simplicity is beautiful
I remember this was one of the videos I watched that made me want to create my own profile - legitimately, I made my profile after seeing this in 06'. I was a freshman in high school. Crazy to think that was over 15 years ago
Damn what a massive throwback. I was in middle school playing RuneScape when I came across this wonderful video. I remember constantly replaying it because of how amazing the video was and still is. The music truly brings me to tears from all the nostalgia. I’m 28 now and lived quiet the trip but watching this video reminds me of all the great times I had.
Best idea ever on youtube ! It´s so feeling pure humanity . I think you've got the best life ever lived of this century Matt. Good job dude ! Just Magic
I love how open-minded he is, becoming friends with people from different cultures. It's inspiring. I want to travel like that - not just see the sights, but meet the locals, too. :)
Matt, your video was a catalyst that transformed my wanderlust from mere fantasy into tangible reality. Prior to stumbling upon your awe-inspiring content, my travel experience was limited to Thailand and Italy, despite residing in the United States. However, your video ignited a fervor in me to explore every corner of the globe. Today, after 1,100 flights, I can proudly say I've traversed all 50 states, visited 110 countries, and set foot in 1,100 diverse locations worldwide. Moreover, you've inspired me to commit to a bold endeavor: exploring every continent and seeing at least 12 countries a year. The journey wasn't effortless, but leveraging airline miles and fostering international friendships have made this globe-trotting lifestyle both affordable and attainable. Your video didn't just inspire me-it revolutionized my life.
One day, I was bored and searched for videos on RUclips as usual. When I accidentally searched for this video, firstly I was attracted by the music, and secondly, I was surprised by the release time of this video. It was filmed in 2006. , then this video left a deep impression in my mind, there was a time when I couldn't find this video, thank god for letting me find this video again today❤️
I watched this as a junior in High School in America and when I graduated in 07, I decided to travel the world a bit, like Matt, and after a month-long trip, ended up moving to South Korea where I got to dance in the video that he made in 08. This video made a big impact on my life.
The music brings me back. Even decades later. This was such an iconic moment of internet history, but most of all I remember being in a tough moment in my life, and now I look back and realize I was happy. I just didn’t know it. But for a brief moment it’s like I’m back there, with people I’ve lost, places that no longer exist. But I’m there.
I have seen 59 years. I am now several months into my 60th year of life experience. I have seen a lot of video in my life. Of very many different venues and focuses. This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen, in my opinion. Oh, wait a minute, "in my opinion" means I am the only one voting. I guess I get to say "This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen regardless of length or purpose or economic input or any other factors I may have overlooked" :) .
Matt…. Where are you now ? My science teacher shown us this video back in 2006 when I was 13…. I’m now 30 with 3 kids and still watch it time to time and puts a smile on my face. Now my 8 year old son has watched it and has shown his friends…. Still blows my mind to this day. Absolutely amazing Matt 👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧
So many years later....I still thank you for the energy, fun and delight from each of your inspiring, silly stomps!!!! And i still enjoy revisiting your dancing expressions.
Holy moly. For some unknown reason in the middle of the night this video just popped in my mind. I think I have watched in for the first time around 2008. And what I remember is that for another unknown reason - it made me cry. Doesn't do that now, but god damn time passed by.
Even though I only saw this once or twice, it's extremely nostalgic and perfectly captures the old days of RUclips. Who else is watching this with heavy emotion?
Ha.. Matt, I became so much a different person now after 15 years because of your video thank you so much One good creative idea can save so many people
Thank you! This video inspired me to do my own round the world trip in mid 2010 - perhaps one of the most memorable things I have ever done in my life! I visited 23 countries and spent close to a year on the road feeling like a true explorer.
18 Years ago, Wow. I still remember watching the videos on a random whim and enjoying the music so much i began to play them while i played other games. so nostalgic. so beautiful.
This started it all. After a massive breakup. I was 24. I said let’s do it. I’m 43 now. 65 countries. Just had a son and we’re gonna do em all again, together
every now and again i come back to this video to remind me what youtube youtube used to be like when in the good old days before influencers. thanks matt

I was born in February 1990 and I finished school on Friday the 30th June 2006, 10 days after this was posted (we finish school at 16 in the UK). I remember on my last day my form (homeroom) teacher was scrolling through RUclips to find something for us to watch and this video popped up and we spent the rest of the day watching it over and over tryna get the dance right lol
I would love to know if it is Matt's work that takes him to all those places, because he must live an incredible life that allows him to travel like that!
Matt Harding was one of the main guys responsible for Destroy All Humans, a classic game for the PS2. So he decided to travel the world. Later when this video was put on youtube, it went viral, and companies decided to offer to sponsor Matt to do another trip, and another, and another... XD
I was 41 and beyond moved by this. What a moment. Now 58 and have a big smile on my face. Thank you again, Matt.

11 years late
lol
I was born in February 1990 and I finished school on Friday the 30th June 2006, 10 days after this was posted (we finish school at 16 in the UK). I remember on my last day my form (homeroom) teacher was scrolling through RUclips to find something for us to watch and this video popped up and we spent the rest of the day watching it over and over tryna get the dance right lol
This, Canon Rock & The Evolution of Dance.
The good old days, before RUclips was destroyed by desperate and talentless 'Vloggers'
James McKay Except Casey Neistat of course :)
I would love to know if it is Matt's work that takes him to all those places, because he must live an incredible life that allows him to travel like that!
I have read, he had found sponsors for making these videos, exept the first...
cool!
Matt Harding was one of the main guys responsible for Destroy All Humans, a classic game for the PS2. So he decided to travel the world. Later when this video was put on youtube, it went viral, and companies decided to offer to sponsor Matt to do another trip, and another, and another... XD
Where the hell is Matt in 2023?
Remember seeing this when I briefly backpacked in Asia many years ago always brings back good memories
this is the only reason i wanna travel around the world.
Back when the internet was good

I'd love to see this video in an upscaled version. Every time I see it again it gives me peace and happiness. The world is really our paradise.
