My group loves using the StarFinder system. We often like to recreate different Sci-Movies and shows as well as make up our own story arcs. Our favorite session was when our ship was over run by tribbles and Vesk tribble exterminators.
Thanks, Devin! That sounds awesome! I've been looking over the various official adventure paths to decide where to start! And that sounds like a fantastic session. ;-) Did you by chance watch the new Star Trek - Short Trek that released a few weeks ago. Sounds right up your alley. :-) -Theo
Thanks, Gamarishi! Yes, we're trying to broaden our horizons! I just need to put together groups to run three different campaigns (D&D, Pathfinder, and Starfinder!) And I need to have more time in the day! -Theo
It’s crazy you’re reviewing this. I’ve had this item in and out of my shopping cart online. I think the mini line they are hinting about may make my mine up. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for this review! I just bought this tought it would work like the Essentials kit fron Dungeons and Dragons but got suprised by this “mini” adventure
An yeah. It’s a bit different. Hoping for some more intro to Starfinder content sometime. Check out Starfinder Junker’s Delight for a fun one-shot adventure to get you going. -Theo
Great review as always! I DMastered 3.5 many years ago and this game is an evolution of it (as it comes from pathfinder). 3.5 was a more complex system than 5e but it was a very good one. The full rules of Starfinder reflect that. In my opinion, the only bad thing of this starter set is that the adventure is really short. I’d appreciate something as Phandelver or the new Icepeak Spire. By the way, I love tribbles!
Thanks, Roberto! I think we agree. The more complex rules system seems great for people who aren't intimidated by that, and it should open up options for more character differentiation. Yeah, I do wish the adventure was longer too, but they are really encouraging you to extend the adventure yourself, and they do give quite a few ideas and resources to help you do that. As someone who tends to prefer working off of published adventures instead of designing things out of whole cloth, I'll probably just move on to one of their official adventure paths instead. Hehe, you know, I love Tribbles too. ;-) Thank you! -Theo
The Gallant Goblin They say that the best adventure path to introduce players in the Starfinder lore and worlds is Dead Suns. I also like working off of a written adventure 😃
That's the one I was leaning toward myself. Starting on Absalom station and venturing out from there seems like a good introduction to the universe. Thanks! -Theo
I‘ve noticed you have little figurines sitting on the Deck of many Boxes in you recent videos. Where are they from? Is there a theme? Some of them seem familiar.
Haha, yes. Most of them are just Funko Pop figures. I try to tie them in thematically to the content I'm talking about, but sometimes I just include ones I like. The two in this video are Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy and Tom Servo from Mystery Science Theater 3000. I just pick them up in book stores, collectible stores, or online. -Theo
I really wonder if people are going to have any tribble converting those character sheets from beginner box to full. I think that may have been a mistake. If Paizo updates this, hopefully they'll either use the full sheet or spend a little more effort on making the character conversion easier.
No, though you can get the regular Core Rulebook, the Core Rulebook pawn collection, and a couple of Starfinder flip-mats to create a similar experience if you like. -Theo
Glad you enjoyed it! I've transitioned from D&D to Starfinder recently. These days, I've got one ongoing D&D campaign and TWO Starfinder campaigns! Look for more Starfinder coverage soon! -Theo
I'm hoping Wizkids make a sci fi system like the d&d adventure game series with premium painted minis. So far, Onslaught and Trials of Tempus have shown how good the prepainted minis can get. I would love to see the solo sci fi equivalent....Spelljammer?...
I come from playing Mechwarrior Destiny that is the simplest system to role play. Creating characters can be done very quickly so no eternal setup, and information about the Battletech universe is widely available at the internet as background info to create your adventures. And the galaxy is vast. No aliens. No wizards or magic.Just giant robots. Correct me if I am wrong but Starfinder is a starbase crawler game. Right? What exciting things can be done in Starfinder? Isnt it just a dungeon crawler in space? Are you just crawling inside a station instead of exploring the galaxy?
Hey hey! Good to know about Mechwarrior. I enjoyed their computer games back in the day. Mm... no, Starfinder is definitely not a staircase crawler. Adventures take place on starbases, space ships, alien worlds, in other realities, any place really. It's basically D&D / Pathfinder set in the future of the Pathfinder universe. So you might do some hex crawling exploration of an alien world, or you might engage in some starship combat, or you might be investigating a murder on a luxury space ship, or negotiating a treaty between warring factions on a strange world, or delving into ancient tombs to learn information about a lost civilization, or preventing an invasion by creatures from the realm of fire, or just trying to earn enough money doing odd jobs for your corporate sponsors so you can throw off the reins and call your own shots on your own ship. The options are pretty unlimited. You can see some of the pre-written adventures for Starfinder here to get a sense of it: paizo.com/store/starfinder/adventures/adventurePath. And we have more information in more recent Starfinder videos. -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin Mechwarrior games come from a tabletop game called Battletech. A mechwarrior is the pilot of a mech in the Battletech universe. The tabletop game can be found in Barnes and Noble physical stores. The ship problem caused a temporary disruption in supply and Battletech is no exception but it may be solved soon. Battletech is a simulator of giant robot combat in tabletop format. The rules in text format could be intimidating but "battletech fan" channel made a visual guide. I have some tabletop games on queue and this Starfinder looks at least interesting.
We bought the source books a few months ago actually, but we haven’t had time to learn it. It’s on our list along with Delta Green and Vampire: The Masquerade.
Excellent detailed review as always. I had no idea that Paizo had a Science Fiction game out. Not a fan of mixing sci-fi with magic though. Psionic is okay. The races available look interesting. Any tribbles in there?
Heh, I believe Arthur C. Clarke said any sufficiently advanced technology will look like magic, but I get your point. Starfinder being essentially a direct sequel to Pathfinder makes it hard for it to cut out magic or rebrand it. Even many of the gods from Pathfinder are still around and kicking. That said, Starfinder definitely feels more sci-fi than fantasy, unlike say Spelljammer which is basically fantasy in spaaaaace. -Grady
I do not agree with considering intimidation as a skill. For interrogation, the most professional interrogators appear vulnerable, like Black Widow in Avengers movie. And to get things with interrogation, it certainly will not be easy to intimidate a warrior. Strong will can defeat fear, and without fear, intimidation is not possible.

I’ve only played 5e and recently got curious about Starfinder. This video has me sold. I’ll definitely be picking up this boxed set.
very cool lore for Starfinder. Seems like I'd have no tribble joining a game with this beginner box.
Hehe, very nice. Looking forward to sharing more lore with you all! Thanks for watching! -Theo
Thanks for the review as usual. I was curious about this beginners box
I'm so glad to see that you covered this one too! My youngest fell in love with Skittermanders, so queue new TTRPG to add to our list 🤩
Try the 4 Skittermander adventures!
I felt so dumb looking at their D4. You read it on the bottom instead of the top like normal.
I stared at it for so long before I figured it out.
Pro-Tip: Before popping out the tokens I like to give one side a quick watered down black wash to indicate it is the back of the critter.

Agreed. I understand the reasoning behind it, but the modified rules and character sheet are a bit problematic.
I love how you got into rpgs by Harmonquest proof that you should be Jim rash’s character from the second d&d episode
congrats on the good review! Is there similar box with the regular rulebook and rules?
