The crit system in Pathfinder 2e is much more thought through than the traditional system. Casting Guidance for +1 on Attack to assist your allies is now immensely impactful because it increases the crit chance. Now you can basically calculate what you need to gain the crit instead of just relying on luck.
We are very much in favor of that, haha! It’s always good to try a few different systems anyway, if only to be able to take cool ideas from various ones back to your favorite!
Great breakdown of the box. I loved hearing the reactions of your players and the comparisons between this and D&D. Been wanting to check out Pathfinder for a while and this seems like a nice entry point.
Having played Pathfinder for the first time by jumping straight in to "Rise of the Rune Lords" I can see why playing this box set first is a great idea! :) great vid Theo!
Well, Wizkids is starting to get in the 2D acrylic mini biz. It's not quite the same as having all the pawns you need in one nice package for an adventure path, but it's a start! -Theo
They used to include similar tokens in a lot of the old 4e box sets, but like a lot of the other good ideas from that edition, those got dropped fast because so many folks strongly disliked all things 4e.
@@Dyundu They should've kept that aspect of it. 4e had some serious issues and it came out at a bad time, but there's no downside to giving you minis or a battle mat.
This box is a great production (the video too!). I especially liked the connection of the sections of the character sheet to the rules. This together with reference cards should be standard for RPGs.
I've been debating whether I want to switch to Pathfinder 2e, as I've been a Pathfinder 1e, then D&D 5e DM. But this video convinced me to give the system another look. Geat job guys!
@@TheGallantGoblin XD of course it's the dragon. My players got bit impatient and wandered into the cave without preparation. Took only 3 rounds to kill them all XD
We need more pawn reviews. I need to know what I'm getting in a big box. I need more Halflings and Gnomes! The Pawn set they have for that is not in stock to buy any more.
Paizo has unfortunately discontinued their pawns line. There are third parties that produce pawns or 2D minis though they will likely not be as comprehensive for Pathfinder-skinny minis from dungeon in a box, arcknight, idols of the realms (D&D) from WizKids, the cards from tome of summoning, etc.
@@TheGallantGoblin Discontinued? OK, that explains the almost 55% sale they have on the current Pawns on their site. I got my announcement email for this 12FEB24. I need people like you to tell me about these deals! Plus Bundle of Holding, and that other one that I can never remember the name, so that's what I need you folks for! Dang, paid more in shipping than for the dang pawns.
I hear ya! I try to post the sales I catch on Twitter. I know there are folks on our Discord who catch sales too. If I had the funds for it, I'd get myself a social media manager so I wouldn't miss anything! But yeah, I'll try to be better about reposting deals when I see them! :-)
Forget the obvious comparison to 5e. Imho, this box set is one of the best, if not THE best intros to RPGs there is. If you wanted to get a group of 5 or so from zero experience through a good full adventure on their own.... This can actually pull that off. Tons of content for the money ... Honest contender for best intro to RPGs there is. Stupid value for a box set, about 7x the content ... And about 5 more pounds* of actual shit in the box compared to 5e equivalent box set. Paizo nailed it here. *2.27 kilos
I understand. This was, of course, before any of the controversy came to light. We were hired as writers on the book and I ran a pretty fun short actual play series to promote it, Song for the Shadows. Hopefully Satine and Jamison's involvement won't sully your enjoyment of our little actual play that we worked hard on, or of course The Pathfinder Beginner Box which they had nothing to do with. -Theo
I think the very intuitive and straightforward three action economy is going to be one of my favorite parts of PF2e, as compared to D&D 5e. I just bought the Beginner's box, haven't played yet, but in 5e, I often felt, both as a player and GM, that the flow of the game was negatively effected by the simultaneously vague and unguided, yet complex action system of 5e. My first impression is that the three action economy system will help remedy that and result in simpler, smoother and more engaging game play, with less dead time trying to figure out what to do on your turn, because you have to spend less time figuring out what you even "can" do, and how it all links together with actions, bonus actions, reactions, etc. Three actions, and that's that. And the fact that you can "buff" actions like healing by spending more action economy on them is awesome! It's my favorite "first impression" difference between the two systems. Edit: Also, this was a great video, and what convinced me to give PF2e a shot. Thanks!

Coming back a year later to take another look at Pathfinder and give it serious consideration for future long term play.
I’m sure you know why.

Holy cow the production value in the beginning was incredible! Wonderful to hear everyone's thoughts on the system. :)

Thanks, Jeff!! Yeah, too bad this wasn't out yet when you all got started! -Theo
Great video. Thanks for getting friends and running it before the review. I appreciate you!
Thanks for watching, Casey! -Theo
Why oh why does WoTC not make these standees (pawns) for 5E?

Just bought this set after Christmas I had not opened it yet. This video inspired me to do so, Thank you very much.

Thank you kindly! The character sheets were amazing! And I do love me some reference cards! -Theo
Uploaded 6 seconds ago.. the timing is impeccable
This is a really thorough review, really good content!
Nice video guys and girl. I'm even more hooked on Pathfinder now.
Excellent! Hope you're enjoying! -Theo

Amazing video like always
Thank you, Felipe! -Theo
Old school d4, I'll probably never get used to it being on the top.
I'll probably never get used to them being on the bottom. 🤣
I love this boxset. All accessories are awesome. Would be great if it's easier though XD had my first tpk in 2 years yesterday.
Oh my!! What encounter overwhelmed y'all? -Theo

Damn I was interested until Gilding Light. Satine is an instant no from me.

What was the controversy there? I haven't heard the story.
