Those trees look like softwood invasive species, they typically take over when the ecology is out of balance and they would have been heavy water consumers. They serve little purpose other than as firewood or chipped composting. You should consider clearing out the whole plantation over time and replanting with indigenous flora (trees, shrubs, grass in appropriate proportions) which will attract natural fauna. We did a project like this over a few years and water levels have since risen and insects & birds species started returning. Having said that, best to do an informed ecological plan for your property taking all aspects into account. Subscribed :-)
Those sorts of trees can be used as simple timber for small structures too, plus fencing :D Theres also some gum trees in this video too, which make some really nice long lasting timber.
Black Wattle is a curse in South Africa. For us it was an invader plant, brought in for using the bark in tanneries. If a thicket burns down, it makes a raging fire in impenetrable bush. The next season a veritable haze of young saplings come up. They have to be pulled out by the roots. Nothing indigenous can grow between them. All you hear in those thickets are insects, no birds or wildlife.
Your project is a real life adventure. Transforming the wilderness into a slightly tamed version of itself. I stumbled upon your channel by accident of YT-algorithm. Now you got me 🪝ed. My adventure-neurons go in resonance. Lots of rewards in any possible way for you all and your project of dedication towards a sustainable way of living. Freshly greetings from the Baltic Sea 🌊⚓️
that's an amazing amount of green wood chips if you can find a wood chipper to chop it. Mix it up with manure and you have an amaznig input to fertilize your fields in 12-18 months
It would be interesting to understand how the lake is part of the water system on your land, especially in the context of the earlier videos. And how the whole system could be systematically improved to store excess water for dry periods.
Looks good! You could use the dead trees and chopped stems to make a composting area for the leaves and waterplants that you removed from the lake. Use an auger to drill some postholes and braid the bendy limbs through them to make some walls!
All the wood you have removed from the lake should be used for fences and firewood for the winter months, it is a good suggestion to compost all the leaves if you can. keep up the good work and Videos!
That was a lot of work. I really hope you'll do something good with all the wood you chopped. Let it dry properly and use it as building material. Don't use everything for camp fires, nor burn it down, just to get rid of it.
You have the perfect conditions and material for a dream project of hugelkultur in/and or swales. In your area, it means almost no watering. No worries and work about watering is a big deal. Good work.
Most important thing to know about chainsaws is that flesh cuts easier than wood, so be careful! Second thing is sharp and oily is always better than dull and dry. Third is buy more batteries. Doesn't matter how many you have now; you can always use more. 🙂 Last, rather than try to filter out the pond water, why not dig a shallow well near over towards your basecamp? The soil will filter the water for you, and you'll be able to prevent nasties from getting in it.
🤣 you guys make me laugh! Scuba gear to find scissors!! Haha! Great to see that you are all having such fun clearing your land. PS… call it what you will, a lake or a pond, if it’s spring fed, it’ll be there forever!
Hello team awesome. Those look like the wattles that we have growing in the northern parts of South Africa. Well done 👏 The locals put the stems to good use, making lattices, screens, garden things. Really innovative. Excited to see what you do with this and all of your projects. Love your channel. All of the best from RSA
Beautiful video! What a difference! With a lot of work and determination you all are slowly revealing the treasures your land has to offer. I can hardly wait for the next update. Cheers!
Hi ! I'm loving project kamp , I'm from Brazil and lived in Portugal for 16 years, part of my family is still in Portugal . My full support for all of you and I hope to visit y'all some day :D
Thank you for sharing this video would love to see an update in the lake it will be amazing to see you guys clear even more and get it cleaned up completely where you can dive in it or swim
In America, we would call that a pond rather than a lake. It's on the smallish side for a lake, here. But all that matters is if you can get potable water and occasionally take a dip. Congratulations!
Awesome chainsaw!! I have two!! I live in a forest too about 10,000 miles from you!! A chainsaw is as essential as water!! I ❤️ you and your amazing team. Love love these adventures.
I've been cutting invasive trees on my land for a few years. I'm trying to restore a chunk of oak savanna habitat in Wisconsin (US). I find that it is far easier to use a brushwhacker with a saw blade on those little trees. You can do a big area in no time. Be warned though that cutting those trees down does not kill them, they will resprout from the stump/root and it will be many times denser when they grow back. You need to kill the stumps as well.
So hüggel beds or benjim hedges or mushroom logs? Benjim hedges are just long piles of brush wood preferably on contour. Preferably within 30 meters of where you cut the tree down. Make them chest high and weave the brush together and jump on the pile from time to time to compact it. This is the cheapest way to use what you’ve got. It creates home for all sorts of small animals. It also can protect small saplings from deer. As you are cutting do keep an eye out for any useful trees you might want to save. The tool you really need. A mid sized excavator. Good luck with your project. It looks like a lot of potential
wow well done guys, you're working really hard and making excellent progress! the lake is looking very nice and inviting. you will be so happy to have a place to swim in the coming months, i'm sure! keep it up!
I was watching one of my other channels, Land To House, and I was reminded about his ram pumps. He sells them on his website and Amazon. All that's needed to operate is a positive head pressure. He has over 100 videos on the subject. Perfect for watering the future garden.
With all this wood, you now can construct simple wooden structures for the camp, for example a pavilion, a shelter for the summer that offers some shadow or a primitive roof for the containers.
Awesome! please be aware to not take the litle green leaves that are above the water because it's an indicator of pure water and actually is one of the things that prevents the water from getting "rotten" as it blocks the sun light and also helps to mantain the temperature of the water!
Hi man I'm from São Joaninho, another "freguesia" of Santa Comba Dão, sometime around the end of the month I will swing by and bring you some lemons :D
Awesome job guys…I love those kind of jobs that you keep working at to reveal the landscape. It must be a pair of clippers or shears that you lost…not ‘scissors’ ?
Great job, Dave & company! Wow, that was a lot of hard work but boy is it worth it! I can't wait to see how you utilize all of that free lumber! Perhaps a wood kiln would be a great first project on the property to dry it all out so that you can use it on your future builds. Btw, has the workshop+support containers arrived yet? Would love to see how it fits in your Kamp. ;)
Excellent video and great progress! Something to consider; the remaining trees are going to suck up your water and lots of it. You might want to cut down more trees in order to retain more water over the dry season.
Just found your channel / project tonight (have watched 1/2 of the videos so far and am enjoying very much. As others have stated utilize as much of the wood (dead and alive / fresh cut/cleared) as it is a valuable resource! Lots of materials for building covered areas walls and fences, I see LOTS of good firewood (nothing like a campfire outside your van on nice evenings! Check out "bushcraft" shelter builds to get some ideas on what structures you could put up (even if only short term) with the wood and trees you've been clearing out. See some nice (mostly) straight new growth thats been removed that would be great to work with. Also see you taking out lots of "standing deadwood" which makes great firewood and even a little lean to type shelter along with a back packers stove can be nice and cozy and warm giving somewhere to spend time outside of the camper van. I would also invest in a good machete for dealing with the scrub brush, small 1-2 inch new growth and thorn bushes. You would clear paths etc much faster than with the little saw and clippers - which definitely have their uses. Living in BC Canada and basically in a rain forrest invest in good rain gear and footwear as soon as you can! Its worth it! Maybe when "the lake" is brought back to life you could stock it with some trout and have fresh fish supply??!? Good luck and looking forward to seeing more and liking what I've seen you do so far.
Woodward. Really cool chain soar. I would like to see reviews about it! Because fuel ⛽️ In Ukraine started to be super super expensive and limited by government.
Cleaning the lake would be the next step forward. I think you can make a super cheap floating filtration system. You can check out some RUclips videos on how to clean the lake sustainably.
The lake/pond is probably better for swimming and maybe placing a sauna there you can enjoy more of the year. Maybe also placing some air stones to clear the water. I would just go for well water, as it would be safer and probably cleaner water also.
Well, a review for a saw like this is that it is delivering an output of about 1100 watts. And with a 2x18Vx5Ah battery pack you have available 180Wh, or 10800 Wmin . So if you make it work hard on a proper tree, you can go full throttle for about 10 mins before you need to charge the batteries. An ideal tool for people that don't want to work, but enjoy long breaks during the day.

They could also have gotten a bunch of batteries and keep recharging them as they go.
I'm waiting for you to utilise the green sapling trees to make wicket panels for fences, gates and shade structures. They are not difficult and use the resources on site.
What a great amenity to have on your land. Do you know about the wood you are cutting back? It looks like that invasive wattle or false acacia which is an absolute bugger to eradicate. It spreads if you cut it all down. But I guess you know that. Good luck.

Hi There, just wanted to point out their are water based plants that have natural antibiotic and natural disinfect that will help clean and keep your spring clean, also look at water snails for cleaning,
I admire all your hard work next time you have the scissor attach a good strong nylon string and loop it around the wrist and attach it to the scissor so if it does slip you don’t actually lose it in the water.🥰
I doubt it would be a big impact as Mat revealed that it was fairly deep (so more water to heat up) plus it depends on how the lake is oriented to the sun's path as the canopy Dave & his crew left on the oposite bank could serve as a good shade & help keep the overall water temp low.

This reminds me of the time when i found out that I had a small lake on my property. I started cleaning it out and all but to find out that an alligator lives in it. That Florida for you.

More of a pond than a lake. Lakes would be much bigger. Well done for clearing it all. You all work so hard
wouldnt even call it a pond. It's a watering hole (probably for cattle or other hearding animals)

Save as much of that wood for firewood later on, you just need to cut it up into manageable lengths and stack it somewhere to dry under cover.
Totally agree, it would be a total waste to burn it all, sure the small saplings but the bigger trees would cut up nicely for firewood in the future
All the wood you have removed from the lake should be used for fences and firewood for the winter months, it is a good suggestion to compost all the leaves if you can. keep up the good work and Videos!
Would make a good video too

Maybe stack the large pieces of wood in wood piles to sell for fire places or wood burning stoves. To make extra money for equipment

Wow! Great work folks. What a great resource on the land.

👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 haven't even seen the video! But how nice are Mondays now! So happy about the new video! I've been waiting for this one!
Adding some rope, with handles, and using a timber hitch might make your tree dragons easier.
Love what you’re doing!!!
I bet it was a hard task! Awesome to follow your project guys! I hope I can visit Project Kamp some day.
Goth how lucky you are wattle trees are great fire logs and lots of good poles to build with its a score!!

Try to fish with a neodymium magnet...
Maybe you find even more than the scissors ✂️
Excellent idea! Neodymium magnets are extremely strong and once they latch onto something metallic it's ready to retrieve.
But scuba suit sounds much better! 😎😂
Defo give a magnet a go. I’ll send you one
@@MaacAbra magnet whilst wearing scuba gear.

Lol....I think that kind of battery powered chainsaw it´s good for light work...when put to maximum stress it cries like a baby....😂
Very nice team work guys. I'm very surprised there were no critters in there....
in future you could use shredder for making wood chips that cover ground and paths against growing plants as well as covering plants from drying out
You should get the use of a wood chipper so you can use the trees as wood chips.
"Leaning on the everlasting arms" - great gospel song
Dave please use glooves (like Matia) when you work in forest and on the ground in general.
And never forget a helmet and possibly a bullet-proof vest! ...oh wait, it's not the US! 😉
I thought he lost a phone, not scissors haha. That's a lot of work, but you now have a nice little pond there.

другой берег тоже необходимо почистить от деревьев - иначе листва будет падать в воду и заиливаться дно, тем более водоём не проточный(вроде). Удачи!
You should dig that "lake" out and make a big pond that you have fish in. That way you always have fresh fish for dinner if you like.
You should stock some fish in it to keep it clean and for another food Source also... Just came across your channel so keep up the great work..

Good work, might want to consider expanding that body of water in the future eh. That is definitely not a Lake, may be a little pond.
Love to see this project grow
lot's of firewood for winter...maybe a neighbour has a shredder to do mulching wood chips
I‘m not an expert. But i can imagine that a lot more water will evaporate now that the shadow sfrom the trees are gone.
I doubt it would be a big impact as Mat revealed that it was fairly deep (so more water to heat up) plus it depends on how the lake is oriented to the sun's path as the canopy Dave & his crew left on the oposite bank could serve as a good shade & help keep the overall water temp low.
