Thank you for posting this video, my Taranis began displaying this message today and now I know what to do. Its rather annoying that FrSky didn't put this battery in an externally accessible compartment or otherwise make it easier to change because they will need replacement eventually.
this is great! mine started this error last week, and I was thinking it meant the 18500 cells were having issues. Now I know better and how to fix it! Many Thanks!!
Thank you for making this video. Dug mine out recently and had no idea what this error was. No documentation on it from FrSky. Your video was my first search result. Managed to get mind replaced tho did snap two of the shell clips in the process. It would be nice if these radio manufacturers put these in a user accessible spot. A bay under the rear external RF port would have been a perfect spot!
You can check Rtc battery status under hardware menu 6 that say check RTC and see live Rtc battery voltage and if is low you just unchecked box so radio don’t warning you about it or instill you replace the battery.
A little late on the reply but if that rtc battery goes out does it turn off the entire radio? I could care less about the rtc battery showing the date and time I just don’t want it shutting off the controller mid flight one day
Good video, and I like your approach of separating the halves at the rear panel instead of at the battery holes. Gotta keep the old girl going. As much as I hate FrSky for the last few years, I like this form-factor, and if you're ever going to try out 3D (quadcopter) flying, having a centered, sprung throttly makes it a million times easier, and to my knowledge, this is the only one that lets you quickly and easily do that.

Thank you for this video, I also need to replace RTC battery of my radio; but wondering what happens if I decide not to replace RTC battery? Will anything else malfunction besides the date? Thank You again.
@@Painless360 and also, perhaps the battery will eventually start to leak (?) though I don't know how long this would take to happen and also if this happens for a battery which is 'in use' i.e. with the radio being turned on and off, despite it being flat...
I love the ability to remove that primary batteries... is this still worth getting today for whoop racing using elrs with a module? Everything that is coming out now has internal batteries and buttons instead of switches. I have that TX16s but need a grab and go radio for those times where I just want to get out and rip a few packs.
@@Painless360 Would love to use the zorro... but the battery is my only reason for not buying it. Also I have an frsky dongle for my sim so this would work for a grab and go and a sim controller. Thank you for this video. keeps it future proof.
I've had the BetaFPV stuff in here and have some others on the way too. After some of the struggle I've had, I could have been tempted to wait for V1.1 or V2 of the hardware from most of the vendors..
Is this your favorite of the game controller style transmitters? I'm using a TX16s and want to try one of these, but I'm kind of overwhelmed by the choices. I like the size/layout of this one the best, but it looks like just the newer ACCESS version is available. It's not a deal breaker if this is the best of the small radios, but all my FrSky quads are currently ACCST.
Very strange I was subscribed to your channel for a long time and for some reason i didn't see any vids from you, I wondered if you stoped uploading and I could not find you on my list of subs, so I typed your channel name on youtube and you came up and I'm no longer a subscriber!!!.......why is that?

Literally my radio started doing that last week! Thanks for the help!
Thank you, last time I disassembled my X-Lite, years ago, I broke some plastics. Starting by the top was very easy ! Battery replaced succesfully 👍

Noticed an opentx bug fix for excessive battery drain on 2.3.14. Probably a good idea to update this too.

It will still work but the date will always be reset on power off and you'll get the error.

I've not used mine with ELRS here. There are modern versions of the radio like the RadioMaster Zorro that will work with ELRS... Best of luck

Great info as usual nice to see these old radios becoming useful again with ExpressLRS ... which module do you like I’m looking at the betaFPV 👍

Every FM radio I owned could to that
Fantastic, Lee! Thanks a lot! 😃
But... FrSky could've put it in an easier place, hum? 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Now would also be a good time to spray some CorrosionX in there to waterproof it.
Those little coin cells, often in hard to reach places, have to wonder if such engineering is built-in obsolescence? Take care.
