It's amazing how much of a network philly already has sometimes. And what's really cool is how many of these routes are planned for upgrades and expansions. Regional rail has 2 lines with planned expansions underway and a few stations are remodeled every year to be Ada compliant. Patco has had rumored expansions for a while now, who knows if that will happen. The trolleys have a planned 1 billion dollar modernization plan, which involves street scape redesigns and top of the Line equipment. Norristown line is expanding to king of Prussia, the riverline to Glassboro and the busses are getting a redesign as well
I’ve done this many times in the past when I lived in Central Jersey. I would always come down to Philadelphia for work. Last stayed there in 2017 and I look forward to going up there again next year in 2023. I’m very familiar with the mass transit system of Philadelphia
Travelled from Australia in 2000 to "do" all the lines. Amazing. Stayed at Media which was an interesting experience. And the people's Philadelphia accent was so easy for an Australian to understand! The 15 line came later.
I rode the riverline before and would love to ride the Patco High speed line. I would also love to ride the Atlantic City line because it's so isolated from the rest of New Jersey Transit, connecting you to 30th Street Station for bus routes, Amtrak, Septa Regional Rail, Market Frankford line and trolley routes, as well as connecting you at Pennsauken with the riverline and at Lindenwold with the Patco High speed line. Living in Jersey City and being used to public transportation in the NYC metro area, I've always wanted to be more in the Philadelphia metro area. So far I've only ridden the riverline. One thing I don't like about the riverline is how extremely noisy it is from the inside. They even have a sign saying not to go through the cars while the train is in operation as it'll cause hearing damage.
Great video, very informative and entertaining. I lived in Philadelphia for 30 years, to get to work and for pleasure. It is one of the transit systems in the US. Thank you for sharing.
Oh,yes, many years ago,I did ride Philly transit, and updated later on! What exists now,is a shadow,of what was! There was a time, that you could go from READING TERMINAL to New York,on the Crusader, and bypass the Corridor, alas,no longer! And if you went out of 69th Street, you could go to Allentown[LVT],also gone!! And don't forget all the READING Company lines, and PRR branches, and mainlines, mainline, abandoned! The network was rather dense, now??? Thanks for the information and updated operations! 👍!!
Very informative review of Philadelphia's transit network. The system offers a plethora of transportation options. I live in Philadelphia and have ridden most of these lines. Thanks Tim for presenting the Philadelphian transportation network to your subscribers!!😀😀♥️♥️
@@riley8280 Thanks Riley for your intention of moving to Philadelphia. I live in the southern section of the city where you may find reasonable rents and fairly low crime. The central part of the city would probably be beyond your means. I would recommend a visit to Philadelphia to scout around. I'm a senior citizen and live in an apartment building offering lower rents. Is your move in conjunction with your job?
@@riley8280 In my opinion Philadelphia would offer you a lot more opportunities.. Our transportation system is is larger than Cleveland especially if you don't have a car. I grew up in Philadelphia in an area where public transit was abundant. We had one car which my Dad used to get to work. Although he could use public transit to get to work. I still would encourage you to visit Philadelphia before you accept a job here.
During my time in Philadelphia I got to see plenty of regional rail, some trolleys, A few market Frankford line trains, New Jersey transit, and Amtrak. All in 27 hours!
I like the variety. I've only travelled with NJT NY - Princeton (2000) and Amtrak Toronto - Niagara Falls (1996) and Toronto - New York (2000) Philly is on my to visit list
Again, even though a lot of Philadelphia may be pretty grim these days, the trains and subways and so on seem to be kept very smart and clean and graffiti-free
@@timosha21 I will try my best to remember that. If possible, please give us some on the Philly PCCs. There is also an old trolley line for tourists in Minneapolis - do you have a video for that?

we have quite the expansive network with good bones here. hoenstly i know there has also been a proposed extension of the el to go up towards the boulevard and honestly i'm down for that. the el serves the lower northeast part of the city with the further section being served by regional rail or bus to the terminal and then the el.
@@timosha21 the line was originally called the ridge avenue subway (bc its mostly under ridge) and designed to be part of a center city loop, except the rest was never built. even today its really more of a separate stub 3rd subway line that serves the purpose of a direct connection between the broad street subway and the el/patco at 8th st. It used to have an additional station at spring garden thats since closed which would have given it two unique stations rather than just the one today. i think its branded under the broad street subway for simplicity/ease of use. given this, would you disagree with me? love your videos bro! thanks again
I always wonder why the river line wasn't turned into a heavy rail with commuter style service to center city ? After all, they use freight ROW most of the way.

The funny thing about the SEPTA routes is that they've actually shrunk! The expansion is more of a Re-expansion and I am 110% on board with it. 👍🏾
You filmed at Broad street line North Philadelphia station? Brave man! lol Some of those locations you were filming are dicey areas.
Great video. As a lifelong Philadelphian and a railfan, I think you covered the region well. Thank you for doing us justice.

Here's a video idea: PATH vs PATCO trains. Talk about their similarities and differences.

Honestly, with how well integrated our metro system is, I think all the lines should have some smart new engines to suit it.

funny how I get the notification for the video well AFTER the premiere is over
I'm adding a new video almost everyday, which premieres at 11am(ET)

I don't care what everyone else calls them. In Philadelphia they are called Trackless Trolleys.
Just like in Boston!
Great video. Thanks.

thank u for making this video about my hometown... just wanted to say though you forgot the broad ridge spur
Could you give me the reasons on why this should be included (I could be persuaded) since it is part of the Broad Street Line...

That network is a fragmented mess
