      13 inch more portable in terms of width and weight for a backpack imo. ALL Mac computers should come with a minimum of 16 GB internal ram entry level. The white at the end of the colored magsafe cable looks so out of place. Interesting with the new M2 chip Macbook air 13 and 15 inch still only 18 hours of battery life, but the M1 Macbook Pro gets 20 hours and is 3 years old. I would think with then newer chip and technology battery life would improve, especially the 15 inch Macbook Air.

      16 inch 2021 Pro is my absolute favourite! laptop but also a desktop when it needs to be. I tried the 14 inch pro and it's a sweet size if you're using it as a laptop but can get cramped on the desk. I just hope they shift to OLEDs on these Airs in the future, then it would be a real consideration for me. That LCD is just sooo old.

    Battery King, Easily work 2 days or 16 hours on single charge, I charged the laptop to 100% at 10.00PM, then closed the lid without turning it off, then on next day morning at 11.00AM I started working on website development with 50% brightness [ no music etc. running in background ], then stopped for 2 hours from 4.00PM to 6.00PM again closed the lid didn't turn off, then again worked from 6.00PM to 9.00PM, and closed the lid with 55% battery left, then on next day again started work again at 11.00AM with same schedule and at 7.00PM battery was at 10% plugged the charger by the time I am done working battery was again at 100%

    Great assessment Aaron, thank you! Watching on my new MacBook Air 15" (Space Gray, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD), which I received yesterday. I traded up from a MacBook Air 13" M1 (2020), which I loved, but I always regretted not having a larger screen. This new system fits my needs very well; I'm not a power user or creator, but I do like having a larger screen. I also increased memory to 16GB vs. my 8GB M1 Air, as I frequently received memory pressure notifications. I left the SSD at 256GB, as I don't need the extra internal space. This new Air feels faster. I realize that may be my imagination, as the tests don't show it is significantly different. But it feels peppy! The migration from my 13" Air did NOT go smoothly, to my great surprise -- I skipped the OS upgrade (as you did), and after all my files migrated, the System would not recognize any of my iCloud credentials. Very frustrating. I could see that OS 13.4 was already installed, but I decided the see if the new build revision cured the problem, and it did. I wondered if you had any of the same issues, as I could see at one point in your video in your System Preferences that it may have been asking you to re-validate your iCloud, as it did with me. With the updated 13.4 build, everything was validated successfully. Enjoying my new Air!

      Any noticeable performance boosts? I'm on the M1 2020 Air right now and I'm not sure if I should upgrade

    • @williambradford1467
      @williambradford1467 Год назад

      @@FactFlix3 I can’t quantify any specific performance improvements; it just feels snappier, e.g. apps opening, videos starting. I’m quite pleased so far, although I realize the big difference is simply the larger screen. I used a 15” screen when I was working/traveling. When I retired, I couldn’t afford (and didn’t need) a MacBook Pro, and until now that was the only way to get a bigger screen. So I settled for the 13” M1. Very glad to have the new 15” Air; if you like the M1 Air 2020, I think you’ll love the 15”.

  • @BellaNC

    Looks good! The debate within myself, is 13” for easy portability, or the fun of a new 15” to help this old lady (me - 71 years old!)? Still thinking! I have iPhones and iPads, so I am going to get a Mac next! 😊

  • @feversol
    @feversol Год назад +8

    As a long retired person with no real need for a laptop, I have been considering switching to the Air from a Pro and I have wondered what the real difference is. I’m still not fully understanding what makes one different other than size and bulkiness. Price should be less, but if I upgrade an Air to a price point of a similar Pro it seems logical to just get the more powerful machine whether it is needed or not. I’ve been getting the smaller 13” for traveling ease and using a large monitor at home. It just doesn’t seem apparent the difference in machines.

  • @WillWatchAnything
    @WillWatchAnything Год назад +101

    This looks like an impressive machine however you do have to be careful once you start adding more RAM and storage. For the price of the upgrades you’re approaching Pro territory which might be the better deal. But at its base configuration its absolutely worth it.

    • @spencercarruth9706
      @spencercarruth9706 Год назад +10

      So long as the 15” Air is cheaper than the 16” MacBook Pro that won’t really matter. This machine exists to give people access to a cheaper large screen laptop running macOS that doesn’t weigh a whole lot.

    It gets very pricey if you go for 16Gb and 512Gb storage. But the base model is good value. MacOS is so well optimised so even the base model should last 6 years or more, but I’m wondering when Apple will move to 16Gb as base, as we’ve had 8Gb / 256Gb base configuration since the 12” MacBook which came in 2015. Maybe when they will need to add more AI functions?

    I just purchased my first MacBook Air. Bought a used one. Excellent condition, 2015 air with 8GB ram. Only 240 charge cycles (out of 1000) it’s super fast, battery lasts around 8 hours on regular use, it’s lightweight, beautiful screen, and I only paid $140.00. I’m still using my 256GB iPhone 8 Plus that I bought second hand this year to replace my 7 plus. I think most people buy the latest and greatest and they really have no reason outside of just having to have new all the time. Apple products are built to last. Their computers last sometimes 10 years and their iPhones can last 6-7 years typically. Really the only people that need the power of the new MacBooks are super heavy gamers and video editors.

    What is crazy to me is that a channel that has grown to where this one has, with a reviewer who focuses primarily on Apple devices (though not exclusively), covers them well and fairly --- Aaron how are you not getting review units from Apple? I'm not sure how it works, if they would need to reach out to you or vice versa, but c'mon, channels a quarter the size of yours are getting review units. It just seems odd to me. @@zollotech Yeah, my point about size is the audience reach. I guess Apple's assuming viewers watching Zollo are watching MKBHD and Dave2D, etc., so maybe you're right about size not mattering as much. It's just, a lot of channels crap on Apple products to get clicks. This one doesn't. I just thought it's a great marketing opportunity for Apple (not b/c your view would be slanted positively but rather b/c you aren't deliberately negative) and also pretty cool for you. Anyway man, have a great night.

    I decided on midnight, 16gb of ram and 1tb hard drive. I got the education discount, sold my old macbook, and used some gift cards and walked out with it for basically $1000 out of pocket. Should last me a good long while, my previous macbook served me well for a decade. Love this thing, it’s perfect for my needs and powerful enough for tinkering. I’m a writer who loves emulating retro games, and this thing is powerful enough to handle anything I throw at it. Currently playing some ps2 with my macbook hooked up to my CRT. Do I wish it had the pro-line screeen? Sure. But if the tradeoff is a sleek, light, beautiful fanless chassis, then it’s a small price to pay. I can use it on my bed without having to worry about it overheating, and the screen is still amazing. Ventura has some…quirks (settings app organization is nonsensical, and the complete lack of software support for dynamically moving things around the notch is very un-apple) but with some deep tweaking I’ve got it exactly how I like it. I was worried about the midnight color after seeing it look like a light dusty blue in the flourescent light of the apple store, but it looks black in the soft lighting in my apartment. Thanks for the rec, Zollo! Very happy with my new toy

      @Watching Videos plus people are saying they love how portable it is and how it doesn’t flex as much as this new one so I think I’m gonna go with the M1 air. I was a little bit worried about software support, but Macs usually get like 9 to 10 years of updates. 849 brand new sealed in the box on Amazon is a heck of a deal.

    13 inch more portable in terms of size for a backpack and traveling imo.

    Very helpful, thanks! I’ll probably end up getting a 13” M2 Air later this year, but this has me curious. My old personal Mac laptop (from 2013!) is a 13” and my work laptop is a 14” Mac Pro.

    In my country this McBook Air is only available with 8 GB of RAM and you can choose between 256 of GB storage or 512 GB of storage. So many options in the US.
    I'm watching this from my MacBook Air 2023 15 inch screen with 512 GB or storage. But I wanted 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
    Oh well, I guess this will do.
