*were. They weren't actually. Koshiro ripped of a lot of Eurodance acts for the SoR games. There's almost identical copies of songs by Technotronic, The Shamen, The Prodigy, and many others in there. Granted, he did it well, and it was a stroke of genius to sample the drum sounds, but they were in no way original, as that style of electronic music had been doing the rounds for a few years in Europe.
Oh man, the memories I have of playing this game. I was born in 1990 but as a little kid my cousin gave me his Sega and I was always playing it. This was one of my favourite games to play on it. So awesome. I was always Blaze xD
Same. My parents owned a NES and had a Genesis for a while. I always liked Sega more for it had great graphics for the time. Street fighter 2 was great and other games like that.
Yuzo Koshiro is one of the best in the industry. I'm always blown away by the diversity he's put into so many different game soundtracks through so many different styles, from RPGs to beat 'em ups!
YES!!! SORs I and II probably have the best and most memorable soundtracks of my childhood, and I am glad that the soundtracks for all three games are now on iTunes... :D
It's so good embracing our childhood memories on videos like this, beautiful. I remember at the level at 16:00, I would grab everyone and flip them into the hole as much as possible with 'em all lol.
These games were responsible for strengthening sibling relationships for decades to come. How many brotherhoods were forged stronger than steel by playing through this series?
Recently started playing this with my six year old on the Mega Drive and been having a great time. I get to about stage six before my knees buckle. RickyC played it really good--pretty much showed me how to beat all those hard bosses. Super enjoyable to watch as well. Cheers!
The early 90s was the shit, as an 80s baby playing this in real time was amazing. That intro and outro music is nostalgic heaven. Remember me and all my cousins all of us born in the 80s ages ranging from 8-12 will be cooped up in the room playing this game all day at family functions. I was the only girl cousin hanging with all the boys and the only cousin out of all them the past level 5. I remember beating the evil Blaze twins with the hardest thing and me being a girl being the first to pass that level who's the major accomplishment for a 8-10 year old. My strategy was getting one of the twins as soon as they come down from their jump kick I always got that b**** first. That drop sound when you get that extra life was everything when you're entering a new level in the game. It was a good time back then we would just be trash-talking each other like a game of dirty dozen's. In win the multi controller for Sega came out so it was a wrap! Now that was fun because you can play with four characters in total I did that before my cousin's house. I never personally had a Sega to myself( when I turn 30 back in the mid 2010's I went to retro game shop in LA called NexGen and finally bought myself a Sega and few games, it was so satisfying cuz i was indigent as a child) but when my relatives was living with me and my grandmother they brought over there game. I remember the only two games that we had was Streets of Rage 1 and Sonic the Hedgehog one and we would just play that over and over. And when other kids would come over like cousins and stuff we'll get excited because they always bring their Sega cartridge and would play their games until it's time for him to leave. Oh it was good times we were so on it that are people's with busting on us and tell us to go outside and play basketball and then we will play a game called "Around the World" all night during family gatherings. My 80s babies know, y'all remember that game?! The soundtrack to Streets of Rage one is literally nostalgic therapy for me. My favorite tracks would be stage 7, which is my favorite and stage 3 and then the intro and outro music when you pass the whole game. I used to low-key freestyle to the outro music yuzo koshiro definitely did that! I'm not even surprised because I do listen to 70s Japanese Jazz sometimes like hiroshi Suzuki and Ryo Fukui and that shit is fire y'all got to get into it. Everything they do is on point abd from the heart. I do hear some elements in of japanese jazz in there. Them niggas got SOUL! 😂 anyway thanks for posting this video I know it's old, I came to get my early 90s childhood nostalgic fix and I'm ODing
ne of the first games I ever played, used to play with my Granda who died recently. It was really nice to be able to watch this and think of those memories, thanks for uploading it man
The section from the end screen of Stage 4, through the extra life sound bite, to the beginning of Stage 5: Beatnik on the Ship is a little piece of auditory heaven. Brings back memories, especially since Blaze was always my fav character, such speed!
Man, I hate those whip ladies clad in black. Sometimes when you attack them by hand, they feign defeat in a stupid crouching position until you distance yourself away from them and then they quickly get up and try to whip you. So glad when I manage to get a weapon to smack them around with!
Dude how you defeated the acrobatic duo really shocked me. I grab them after one of them pull off a jump kick. You on the other hand, did a side kick after she did a jump kick. They're the toughest bosses to face since they constantly dodge your attacks. As for the other bosses, I do the same strategy as you when playing as Blaze except for that wrestler I constantly jump kick in his face when he comes charging at me.
I didn't know that reinforcements can stop spawning once you defeat enough of them at the final boss. Btw, nice playthrough Ricky!! You're the man!! :D
'Ric' Very well done lol. never got to the last stage and thought I'd never see what happens in the end. Thanks for the vid :D Got the love the good old days :]
You know what's funny. I never thought of this when I played this game when I was little. Isn't it overkill to use the bazooka to kill the bosses? LOL.
I actually grew up playing the Final Fight series, and wasn't introduced to this until I got older, but lemme tell you something. Streets of Rage is where it's at! This series is superior in every way tbh.
This game was THE FUCKING ACE. Me and my bro got Sega Mega drive for Christmas, this was back in 93 or so I guess. This game came with the console and boy did we fucking rock it for days and weeks and months and maybe even years
Learnt many move on this lambada dancer thx to you. I finished this game like 100 times and yet didn't know it was possible to counter a punk / girl boss throw. You made my day ;) Oh and I don't understand why you don't fight the fire eater boss like this : grab him, two kicks, release him (repeat 10 times).
ANOTHER OF THE GREAT SEGA GENESIS CLASSICS!!! Excellent title... 1. Excellent argument. 2. Excellent soundtrack. 3. Excellent gameplay. 4. Excellent graphics engine. OMG! This game reminds me to my childhood! My grandmother had it and ever that I stayed at her house I played it :) Last time that I played this was 16 years ago
The way the bosses show up in this game is so fucking awesome. The screen stops scrolling, the level music fades out, dead silence for a few seconds, then that low, bassy drone kicks in under a rising synth tone like a siren, and finally, the biggest motherfucker you've ever seen walks in to start beating the shit out of you. THAT'S how you start a god damn boss fight.
I just played through this on the 3DS for the first time and my god this is up there with Turtles in Time as one of the best beat em up games even over Final Fight (but I still love Final Fight)
I can't ever get Enough of this game and the rest of there Series. My favorite Character is Blaze. I love her Shear Force and Power she has. Axel's Fire Punch is just so way out of any gamers abilities to handle Because Axel kick*ss Period. Adam Well Watch out or he just might put you down to sleep. I love there abilities and how this games Rocks. I think in the future they should remake it for future Consoles and OF COURSE add more Characters and boss's to there story line to make it even more exquisite. i KNOW without a doubt this game has alot more to offer for the future. :D

I used to spend hours playing this with my dad whilst my mum watched crappy soap operas downstairs
This takes me back to my childhood. I played this SO MUCH on the 6-Pack!
The best intro ever. That´s awesome
If this was a movie, Jaden Smith can play Adam Hunter, Selena Gomez can be Blaze Fielding, and Ross Lynch can be Axel Stone.
For the time the music used for this game was almost similar to what you heard in the charts. One of the best console games of the 1990s
It wasn't "almost" similar. Some tracks were direct rip offs of many UK and Eurodance acts.
She's breaking phone boots with her bare hands--she's a badass!

Not only that, she's fighting in an impossibly short mini-skirt.

How did he beat the two Blazes on level 5 without taking any damage?? They use to be the biggest nightmare in this game.
that and the fat guys who breathe fire those were a pain to fight no matter which character anyone used
Yeah, they're almost impossible without cheats and harder than the final boss in my opinion.
