  • MotoMan returns to the Volvo XC60 Crossover - but this time the Twin Engine, T8 Plug In Hybrid EV version in and around Jefferson County - outside Denver - Colorado. The goal for today’s drive is simple: We already learned the Volvo XC60 is a bit more successful in terms for driving dynamics than its large Volvo Scalable Product Architecture SUV sister, the XC90 - however how does it work with an extra 554 pounds and a second propulsion system?

    T8 for sure. This looks great, looks luxurious inside and I would feel stupid not to have a plug-in today (for gas, the environment, etc.) if available, since I have a lesser cost plug-in now and realize that for my driving, I get near 100 miles to the gallon when I have even 25 miles available daily. Can't yet afford a new I-Pace yet, which will be 90K like the model s (but you get SUV styling), so this is the next best bet. This is why BMW sold so many plug-ins this year. You can't quite make the case for gas vs cost yet in most cases, but conscious customers want the electric, which is so nice a ride in electric mode, BTW, especially for in-city driving. Love the look of Macan, but just too small on the inside.

    I have a 2015 XC60 T6 R Polestar.... picked it up used last year and I'm loving it. Love the style and look so I would have to say I'd go with the XC60 T8. The extra weight here in alaska would help in the winters.

    T8 gives one access to HOV lane in California and that means time saved everyday. Few questions that would be nice to be covered: 1)what is gas mileage on hybrid use when battery is charged
    2) how long does battery remain charged in hybrid use?
    3) what is gas mileage after battery is discharged considering the extra weight? (long trips)
    4) how well does all wheel drive work when battery is discharged?

      @tt55k 6 лет назад

      101 miles to the gallon , you can drive for around 4 hours in eco or comfort , a little more in eco . If you are highway driving , why not eco right. In cities breaking or not hitting the petal charges the battery so it doesn’t lose much battery power.

    • @tt55k
      @tt55k 6 лет назад

      How you drive means everything , what mode , are you heavy on the petal etc.

    XC60 T8. I don't want a sports car, I want a luxurious, comfortable, safe cross over that has the power to get out of its own way and can do most of my driving at least 50% on battery. This should do closer to 80%. The fact that it's better looking than the others is just icing on the cake.

    Nice review. I still see the Mercedes as an old man's car, the Macan is good looking car, sounds great but doesn't have a hybrid drive train. I chose the T8 R Design for 3 reasons, I wanted to be greener (I can travel to and from work on the electric motor), the design is stunning (I'm coming from the Audi SQ5), third reason is the government incentives (in Canada we get $15k off the purchase price). I take delivery of my car in October.

    got it now for 3 weeks and drove it about 3000 km in germany and down to greece. I am very excited about. - the consumption for the first 1500 km around my home in Munich was 3.5 l per 100 km - now after driving about 1000 km on the Highway (between 100 and 140 kmh) the display shows 7.5 L per 100 kmh. The reason is, that battery was low of course. But even in idle mode or downwards you save a lot of gas. Here in greece in my holiday home where i stay about 2 month I won´t need to drive to a gas station at all for my daily use.
    Compared with my old XC90 elk diesel it uses the the half (the average of the diesel - 163 PS - has been around 8 Liters)
    The only thing which does not work relieable is the speech communication - destinations are often not understood.
    The accelaration is brute and you better keep both hands on the steering wheel!

    I can speak about the Twin Engine feature as I drive a V60 D6 Phev. The 0-100 km/h is mind blowing, it really does the 6 seconds. The torque is the same as a Ferrari California, 610 torque if I'm not mistaken. What is not referenced often is the fact that on a 350 to 400 meters straight road, going slightly up hill, it does 210 Km/h. Friends say it goes like an aeroplane going for takeoff. It certainly pulls like an air bus for the first 20 seconds of the pedal to the metal. Perhaps you should try a D6 just for fun! :) Peace

    Hello, great video. I have a Mercedes GLC 350 e (plug in-Hybrid). I understand that when you have no more electric battery the consumption might go high (9-10 l/100 km) after more than 100-150 km in highways or long course drive. But i don´t understand why thisplun-in hybrid cars are not as equal efficient as a normal hybrid car. For instance: if i have no electric baterry left, and if i have to drive 10 km in the center of the city, the consumption can go to 12-13l / 100 km for an avergage speed of 20km/h. In other cars, like lexus, consuption inside the city is much lower and they can´t plug their cars. Why do you thinks this happens? Are the plugin-Hybrid cars also Hybrids or they simply have a petrol engine and an electric engine that work worst when compared to a normal hybrid car?

    In Norway they have 2000 preorders on the XC60 over 95% of them are the T8 model. This is due to tax discount for hybrid.

    I love Porsche but I will choose the Volvo XC60 T8 over the basic Macan any day, mainly due to fuel economy, the interior and exterior design and the Bowers and Wilkins sound system which I suppose is available standard in the T8 version ( if not I will pay extra)

    This reviewer completely misses the point of the vehicle. Why does every reviewer talk about acceleration and handling with EVERY vehicle when that is clearly not the focus of the manufacturer. They talk about 0 to 60 times and drive on curvy mountain roads, when the reality is I'm driving from one stop light to the next in the city. A race car should be fast and handle well: a minivan doesn't need to. I'm buying this car, and not because it has a lot of horsepower and handles the best, but because it has great features, design and comfort and is better than all of its competitors at that. Once all cars become autonomous these performance metrics should become irrelevant.

    I would not pay more for a more powerful electric application. Rather the price must go down (at least 10%) to be a attractiv solution for myself. In order to be practible the milage on battery should be around 60 miles.

    I'm very curious the electric range-I'm not doing all gas cars from now on so plugin hybrids or EVs. I would pay up to $3600 more for 20-25 more miles. My logic is this - if I get a free gallon of gas if range every day that's around $100 a month or 3600 for a 3 years. Personally I would rather drive that 20-25 miles electrically than gas, so it doesn't have to be cheaper just a wash after 3 years... the Tesla model 3 is $100 per additional mile of range so I'm suggesting Volvo could get away $140-180 per additional mile of range. They could even do small medium large 20, 30, 40 mi of electric?

  • @kevin84lee

    I pick the t8 hands down. I grew up in Volvo's. Within my immediate family, Volvo ownership included the models 240, to 740, 850 turbo to 960 wagon, c70 convertible, to xc70 cross country. Not only have they maintained passenger safety as top priority in all these years, each generation sees them upping their game, consistently, and with confidence with each generation, progressed with the proper balance of style, features and upgrades to their design language. The aura surrounding the Volvo brand is unmatched to me and personally, this is how I feel. Since you asked about the glc 43 or Macan. Well, at the level that we are talking (glc's and macans), those who choose glc's and macans cross me as being so nouveaux riche; Benz buyers being bitchy and pompous, Porsche purchasers, pretentious. (Like that alliteration there? Haha). If you ask me, real porsche drivers won't get in anything unless it's at least a Carrera or Carrera 4s, as for Mercedes, unless you're looking for a g wagon or buying yourself an s class for your chauffeur to drive you around, who wants a glc?!

    for the price, GLC 43! the engine note and responsiveness are way ahead of the T8. While I do like Volvo's interior, I like the MB also. The MB simply feels more special for the money. The Volvo feels like an Acura...

      With the $5k tax credit in the US, the price difference between T6 and T8 is only $3k. Even ignoring the extra horsepower, it seems like a moot point on a $50k+ SUV where you could easily spend more on options like massaging seats.

    Ok, I looked at the Macan Sport and GTS, dealer knocked off $6000. ~$58K for the Sport, $78K for the GTS. Nice car but I don't need another car that wants to be a sports car. Own a 911 GTS C4! MB series is just to small and not interested in the MB. Would have to go AMG and at that point I'd buy the Macan GTS! Best car in the group but you pay for it! The GTS is pure Porsche! The MB has a stupid clock! Hate the clock! MB ins't Porsche! The Volvo is loaded with safety features and seem cutting edge at the price point! The Porsche Macan is getting a major change for 2019 and the 2018 Macan's aren't moving off the lots. Plus Porsche has the new 2019 Macan on their website and this is killing the current Macan sales and future prices!! Who wants the old body style! Porsche was out from that point forward! This was a 4th car in the family and with kids driving it the cutting edge safety and design plus the price really is cheap for what you get. It's a nice riding car. It's not the Macan but it's cheaper for a reason. It's a really nice Mini SUV that's cool and looks nice and refined! IMHO This is way we added the XC60! I wanted the Macan for the record. My buddy said it best. "Why do you need a sports car when you own a 911? The Volvo isn't a sports car by any means. I do like the car!!

    My choice is Volvo. Like Patrick Koeppli, I think the image is neutral. Audi's and Merc's are on every corner here. Sick of the site of them.

    Xc60 is a more all around car. The only thing is better in merc 43 is the sound of the engine. I actually put money in the xc60 t8. In my country is also better about taxes...

    The GLC 43 my 1st choice..The XC60 T6 2nd... Rational? The GLC is a Mercedes!

      headcas620 turbocharged, supercharged, and electric....0-60 in 4.9 seconds. What uniquely powered vehicle do you drive exactly that has more "character"?
