Refined avocado oil has a higher smoke point than olive oil at 270°C (520°F); rapeseed oil has a smoke point of 230°C (446°F) and rapeseed is grown in the UK, so far fewer air miles. Extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point in the region of 190-207°C (374-405°F); extra virgin should be used as a dressing or to make mayonnaise with, whilst virgin olive oil can be used to cook with.
Yeah, my smoke detector would go off with this much smoke even if the fan over the stove was on high. Light olive oil has a higher smoke point as is made for sauteeing.

Hi Richie, loving your channel here in Australia! I’ve been watching all your Thermomix vids and they’re so informative. My TM6 arrives next week so I’m dead excited to try out the Sous vide steak. QQ if I wanted to make the mash in the thermy as well for a meal would it be best to cook the steak first and put in a thermoserver to keep warm or mash first and possibly reheat? I like the idea of preparing a whole meal with the thermy - any advice would be great 👍🏻
Hi Simon. Thanks very much for your positive feedback, it makes all of the hard work worth it. I’m happy you find my videos informative, that’s what I set out to do. Ohh, you’re in for a treat when you start to cook sous vide, steak, chicken and vegetables are on another level! I’d sear the steak with veg oil or sunflower oil or anything with a high smoke point. I used olive oil here as it’s all I had. If you’re happy the thermoserver will keep everything hot enough, I’d go for that. To be honest, I’m not a fan of thermie mash, not keen on the texture. Thanks again for stopping by and showing your support. Keep me posted if you would please 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF

@Richard Pearson - there’s no set time really mate. I will note that the machine isn’t exactly quiet. Does it make that annoying noise everytime you use it? That going in for several hours slow cooking I. The background would drive me mad. I want one but not sure I could live with that noise

That’s a very good point. Sous vide gives your steak a different texture, it’s much better in my opinion. If you’ve had steak in a good restaurant, you’ve probably had it sous vide. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. It’s much appreciated 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Thanks for this vid, and for your thermomix Content in general. Really appreciate it as a newbie to the tm6! A Q for you, do you think you could sous vide x4 sirloin steaks at the same time or would they not fit? Thanks in advance! Keep up the good work mate
@Nick Jewell you’re very welcome, glad you’re enjoying the content. You’re a newbie then! How are you finding it? I think you’d be pushing it fitting 4 steaks in mate. You could always cook 2 ahead and keep them in the fridge. Cool them with ice water first though, and remember to remove them from the fridge at least 30 minutes before searing them. To be honest, I love sous vide that much, I bought a stand alone machine for larger cooks. Any more questions, I’m happy to answer 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
@@RichieTheFoodie Thanks very much for the prompt response! Yes a brand newbie too. My sister sold the idea to me when i saw it enabled her to produce decent food haha. @@njewell07175 no worries at all. Anyone who takes the time to watch and comment on my content, the very least I can do is take the time myself to respond. @@RichieTheFoodie I will be checking out the sriracha chicken video for sure. I have a cote de boeuf joint here which I am planning to sous vide today... any suggestions in terms of time to cook? Its a biggie, its 1kg. So I have cut the bone off to make sure it fits. TIA.
@@njewell07175 hi Nick. Sorry, I might be a little late with this reply for you. That’s a rib eye with out the bone then. For 1kg I’d sprinkle with salt and pepper, some garlic powder and cook at 55c for 4 hours. Let me know what your tried and how it turned out mate. 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
That looks delicious, thanks for sharing. Are you still really enjoying your TM6? I am still on the fence - it is such a hard decision to make. Would you say that this device is suitable for a person living on their own that doesn’t very often cook - at least, not very imaginably!
@Toira Summers - Hi there. Thanks very much, it’s tasted good 😊 I am indeed, I’ve owned it for 16 months or so. I’m always using it for something, either thorough Cookidoo or using it to help me prep. It is a very difficult decision as it’s not cheap! I’d highly recommend it even if you live alone. @@RichieTheFoodie Thanks for that Richie. The only thing that troubles me slightly is the power side - if Wi-Fi goes down, can you save recipes off-line and with the cost of energy rising as well, that’s also a consideration because presumably it needs to be plugged in and on all the time. i’ve seen a few other demonstrations but it would be nice to see it in the flesh and luckily there is a Vorwerk office very close to my home 😀😀
@Toria Summers, it has the function to change portion size for recipes. So you won’t have any problems of making too much. Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m an advisor for Thermomix.

Thanks Richie - We have a TM5 and will have a TM6 soon and can't wait to try the Sous Vide. How did you purchase your TM6? I understand that Vorwerk are the only suppliers but keep seeing far cheaper prices on Thermoworld and Etsy. They look a bit suspicious.... do you have any opinion on how to buy?
@dave noble - once you’ve tried sous vide cooking, there is absolutely no going back! It produces stunning food with little effort. Regarding your purchase, I’m not an advisor, but me personally, I’d buy direct from Vorwerk. This appliance is simply too expensive to take the risk. Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to hearing about some of your sous vide adventures. Please share them with us here on the channel. 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
@Dave noble, the best way to get one is from the advisors (such as me) 😉 because you will get the best customer care afterwards. We help you with any questions you have, also the company only do direct sale.
Someone is having a laugh here, fillet steaks in hour and a half, and then pan shear them, come on frying pan, sear them, pre-set oven 15 to 20 mins, done plus less the cost of a TM6, i could cook them with in 15 to 20 mins just in a frying pan, depending how you like to cook them, i.e., rare to well done.
@Geoff Riley- I fully appreciate what you’re saying. The sous vide function is just one of the many functions on the TM6. You can buy a stand alone sous vide unit for a fraction of the cost. If you’ve eaten steak in a top restaurant, there’s a high chance that it’s been sous vide. Thanks very much for watching and stopping by to leave a comment 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
@Aminar Mansour in my opinion, it is absolutely worth it. It all depends on what you want from the appliance. It certainly opens you up to different types of cuisine. Hi, it’s definitely worth it. You won’t need other appliances! It’ll save you so much space and you’ll use it daily like I do! I’m an advisor for Thermomix. Let me know if you have any more questions. X
Hi Richie, my TM6 is due next week so I’m binge watching Thermomix videos! Like yourself I’m a keen home cook with most of the typical “gadgets” (blender, magimix etc!), so I’m looking forward to seeing how the TM 6 can enhance my cooking further 🤞 Enjoying your videos as they’re not “flowery” like some when showing the working of the Thermomix, and you give some good advice along the way. A quick question on steaks, I’m wondering if you’ve tried the sous vide method and then finished them off on the bbq? Looking forward to further TM 6 recipes from your kitchen!
@Kev, UK Hiya mate. Firstly, may I say, it’s comments like this and others that not only inspire me to create more content for RUclips, but more TM6 content for RUclips. A lot of TM6 content on here is made by consultants, so I guess that’s why mine seems a bit different. I’d happily flog this wonderful gadget, but haven’t got the spare time! The TM6 will change the way you cook, it’s such a piece of kit! I would not be without it. Be careful though pal, if you’re a keen cook, it can make you very lazy. Use it in the week, but always try and cook traditionally when you can to keep your skills up, but even when you do that, the TM6 can be your commis chef 👩🍳 it is that versatile. As for steaks, I have a Weber kettle bbq with a lid, so if I’m using the bbq for a steak, I’ll cook it all on the bbq for the benefit of smoking it. There’s nothing stopping you from sous vide cooking your steak and finishing it on the grill though, just pre heat it to RED hot, smear your steak with a little oil, and sear it for a minute per side. I’d really like to hear about your journey with the TM6, so do keep in touch! And of course, any more questions, I’m more than happy to help 😀 Lots more TM6 content planned, so I hope you’ve hit the subscribe button 😆. Thanks again for the comment 👍🏻 RTF
@@RichieTheFoodie Thanks for the quick reply! Tbh some of the consultant content is somewhat ott😄 Obviously they’re aiming at their core market of busy mums, which is fine, but I think they probably do the TM6 an injustice for the more experienced cook and what it can do for them. After all it’s quite an outlay, I have a couple of friends who are also keen cooks, but I think I already know what their reaction will be when I tell them what I’ve bought……”not another gadget Kev! Why do want one of those?!” 😄 I’ll let you know how I get on, it certainly looks like a different style of cooking. When I bought it the offer was a half price “friend” so I’ve gone in at the deep end😂 I’ve just retired, so hopefully I’m looking forward to a long lasting relationship with TM6 (especially as my other half has never cooked!) I’m already clearing my worktop in anticipation! I’m half hoping it might even inspire her to have a go at cooking the odd thing….but why change the habit of a lifetime🤣🤣

I don’t have the thermomix friend at the moment. As for the wife, mine would confess she’s not a great cook, but if I’m running late at work, she’ll happily cook a tm6 dinner, and it turns out exactly the same as if I’d have cooked it! She loves it. Ah, I hope you enjoyed your retirement. You’ll have lots of time make all of the pastries, pasta dough etc. Again, please keep me posted, Kev. I’ll look forward to it. All the best, RTF

May I say, once you go sous vide, there’s no going back! It takes all of the guess work away. Let me know how it goes, and thanks for supporting my channel. RTF 🙋🏻♂️😀
Thank you!
You’re more than welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and hope it helps. Thanks very much for supporting my channel 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
beautifully cooked steak!
@Alex - thanks very much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Where do get those bags you used with handy plunger
Hello there, I got them from Amazon, they are reasonably priced too. Thanks for stopping by 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Looks scrumptious…thanks so much
Hi Ann. Oh my gosh! It absolutely is. Thanks so much for the lovely comment 😀🙋🏻♂️ RTF
@@RichieTheFoodie I’m checking out your videos and I’m thinking about subscribing.
I’m not a person that subscribes to everything for the hell of it. I have to really be interested and actually learning or involved in a group where we are all teaching the other members. All group members are equal in most of my groups.
Even if I don’t subscribe just yet, I like the videos I’ve seen so far and you seem like a really cool man.
This looks great. I’d love own one with every option available.
In the future, I’ll be looking forward to seeing the new updated devices as I can see this device only getting better like each suit Tony Stark built only got better and better, with the exception of the Mark 42…. But, that particular suit saved everyone’s live. Lol, but fact!
Great video bro!
I’m looking for your rice recipe without this device and I can’t seem to find it.
I’m always looking for the best ideas and processes in the kitchen.
I love cooking with rice as I see it as limitless.
@@MrBraddyman Hi Brad. Yes I know what you mean, I have to really like a channel to hit the sub button, otherwise you get bogged down.
I try to be as honest as I can. There’s nothing in it for me promoting the TM6, I just think it’s an amazing piece of kit, so love to share it. Everyone should own one in my opinion lol. And sure, with regular software updates, plus regular new recipes, this thing will always get better.
I do hope you’ll consider subscribing in the near future, but hey, either way do continue watching. Yours, and everyone else’s wonderful support sure does mean a lot to me. Particularly when you stop by and say hi! Keep in touch, and thanks 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Ma 1er vue👍🔔bon continuation
@Doja cuisine thanks very much! Your comment is appreciated 👍🏻😀
Okay this looks banging👌 A friend has a thermomix but for sous vide, and other functions doesn't seem worth it as the capacity seems rather small. Lovely steak.
@Ron Dren - I do have to agree with you on this. I have mentioned on several of my videos, the TM6 is great to get you into sous vide, but the bowl size really limits you, I went ahead and bought a stand alone separate sous vide unit! Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Great video. Do you have a recipe and video for preparing this sauce in a Thermomix ?
Hi Philip. I haven’t actually, but I can’t see any reason why this wouldn’t convert to the TM6. I’ll definitely look into this, great idea. The hob version isn’t overly difficult and there’s a video here on the channel. Thanks for taking the time to post a comment, I appreciate the support 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Hello! Where did you get these vacuum bags from?
Hi there. I bought mine from Amazon. I’ve taken a look and the type I use here don’t seem to be available anymore! You should be able to find them easily enough though. I use a vacuum sealer now, definitely worth the investment. Thanks very much for stopping by and supporting the channel 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Beautiful video. Thank you so much. I'm thinking to buy but now I definitely will. But how I see its small for 4 adults. What do you think?
@Nails 4U you’re more than welcome, thanks for stopping by and taking a look. It’s only small when using the sous vide or slow cooker function. Other than that, there are 1000s of recipes which will feed 4 adults. If you need any more help, please ask. I appreciate your support 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF

Have you got a tm6 or are you considering buying one? I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for supporting my channel. It means a lot. 😀👍🏻RTF
Hi can you tell me where you got the sous vide bags and pump please?
@Jill Sample - hello. The original ones arrived with my sous vide machine. I buy these ones now, they are very similar. Here’s my affiliate link if that’s ok - amzn.to/3yhCWmw

@Kenneth Foster Morris yes indeed, they are all included, minus the sous vide bags and the blade cover 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
what is max time tm6 can sous vide for mate?
@Richard Pearson - there’s no set time really mate. I will note that the machine isn’t exactly quiet. Long term sous vide could become slightly annoying depending on where your machine is in your house. The TM6 got me hooked on sous vide cooking which justified me buying a stand alone sous vide machine for larger, longer cooks.
I hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Does it make that annoying noise everytime you use it? That going in for several hours slow cooking I. The background would drive me mad. I want one but not sure I could live with that noise
Depending on what mode it’s in, but yes, virtually all of the time, one of the downsides. I agree, it’s very annoying! I love sous vide cooking that much, I ended up buying a stand alone unit. Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel, I appreciate it. Any more questions, be sure to shout up! 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Hi, how many lb beef?
Hello there. It shouldn’t really matter when cooking sous vide. In this case the meat was 3/4 lb. I hope this helps. Any more questions, please ask. Thanks for stopping by 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Wow
Thanks!
Im a big fan of the tm6 but it seems like it wouldve been a lot quicker cooking the steak on a pan.
Had ours just a few days, and so far have been blown away at the consistency that you rightly refer to. Risottos for our 2 young kids have been a hit, and so easy to do. Even being able to do the porridge in morning and walk away for 15 mins is a game changer for us. Thanks for the advice on the steaks, i think cooking them in advance and keeping chilled is the way forward. Have subbed so look forward to any TM6 videos in the future. Cheers
@@njewell07175 no worries at all. Anyone who takes the time to watch and comment on my content, the very least I can do is take the time myself to respond. You’re right, consistency is key with the TM6. A complete novice could knock up a very decent dish. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Another tip for the steaks, sear in veg or sunflower oil, not olive oil like I used in the video (long story)
Thanks for the sub! Coming up on Sunday is Sriracha Chicken sous vide. A restaurant standard dish made simple. Thanks for your support 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
You try things you’d never think of. The majority of stuff I cook in it batch freezes really well. Thanks for stopping by and supporting my channel. Any help or more questions, please ask 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Also it’ll still work without WiFi. There is way to do it.
I just bought one... may not afford food now, but hey....LOL
Haha, the irony lol. I hope you get some good use out of it. Cooking a steak sous vide is an absolute game changer. Enjoy and thanks very much for stopping by, Luke 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
A bit like Kirby Cleaners in the olden days £2k for a plastic vacume cleaner or look at the king look at the king in THE KINGS CLOTHES 90 Minutes for a medium rare fillet steak 🤣
Thanks for taking your valuable time to add the most original and brilliant comment! I really appreciate it man! You take care now. Sending much love and light 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Good grief... love my BBQ.
Me too! However, I do love to sous vide cook sometimes too. Thanks for stopping by 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
I am thinking about buying a thermomix. Is it worth it ? I have a lot of appliances in the kitchen
@Aminar Mansour in my opinion, it is absolutely worth it. It all depends on what you want from the appliance. It certainly opens you up to different types of cuisine.
If you like to cook traditionally, it then becomes a very reliable sous chef. Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel 🙋🏻♂️😀RTF
Like yourself I’m a keen home cook with most of the typical “gadgets” (blender, magimix etc!), so I’m looking forward to seeing how the TM 6 can enhance my cooking further 🤞
Enjoying your videos as they’re not “flowery” like some when showing the working of the Thermomix, and you give some good advice along the way.
And of course, any more questions, I’m more than happy to help 😀
Lots more TM6 content planned, so I hope you’ve hit the subscribe button 😆.
Why do want one of those?!” 😄
I’ll let you know how I get on, it certainly looks like a different style of cooking.
@Kev, UK no problem at all, it’s the least I can do when someone interacts with my channel 😀
Your mates will say you’re crazy spending that amount of money! Mine certainly did lol.

Thats not sous vide, its just boil in the bag! It has to be completely vacuumed or it defeats the whole purpose of under vacuum cooking.

Your pan's not flat, hence the oil moving away from the center and your beef sticking. You moved it a bit too soon.
