I think Elena freed Damon because if she doesn't he'll hurt so much involuntarily because she's in love with him ❤️💗 ,She chose not to hurt him any more regardless of the correctness of her decision All this is her reaction and She is completely unaware or i think Elena lied to herself 🙄😭
