Hi Traveler. Well, they knew you were flying today, so they rolled out a special airplane from the hanger for you !! Aw, the sticker on the fuselage was hidden !! It's very cool flying at night and getting to cross the transition between night and morning. Welcome to the land of Fire an Ice. Where Iceland is Green and Greenland is Ice !!
I never know what to do when the sticker is hidden haha! And almost a full transition from night to morning. As is often the case. The flight attendants turned on the interior cabin lights right before dawn. Which, of course, means you suddenly can't see anything outside because of the interior reflection on the window. So, I had to cut out the first bit of dawn until the lights were turned back off. Thanks for watching my friend!
Love the channel but this particular video is many hours of sheer darkness, nothing can be seen until 4:38, and finally 4:47:44 when the light changes and the really stunning visuals present themselves, the combination of grey and blue shades and cloud formations and then dashes of gold, typical of the Northern Skies until the landing really makes up for the pitch black middle portion.
That is what happens when flying over the North Atlantic at night haha. If I didn’t show the whole thing then people would be mad that it wasn’t the full flight 😂. Thanks for watching my friend.
I am forever amazed by your video quality. To say it's the nearest thing to being on these flights without actually being there is no overstatement. The detail of everything being passed upon take off is one of those details. The other, however, just barely noticeable, at 36:11, just as the plane has leveled, you see the faintest colors of remaining day to the west. By 38:11, you can squint and just barely see a hint of remaining blue but that day had all but officially ended completely as according to light & dark.
@Skylite Productions Indeed they are! I access YT on the tube via Roku. I really enjoy your videos, takeoff & landing, my favorite parts, but more than that, the ambient sound of flight I frequently leave playing low volume. My cats literally fall asleep in seconds and are so peaceful with such a calming background.
Hadn't been to JFK in a while but those angled windows at the BA terminal sure brings back memories. ATC brought you right over the top of JFK off RW31L ( 35:05 & 35:40 ). Quite a common routing. Thanks for sharing!
Brought back memories for me too, I always hunkered down in one of those narrow corridors between those angled windows and whatever power outlet my laptop was charged into!
Well, you're in luck. I leave on Monday for a 10-day international flight extravaganza. I'll be flying to Germany, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands on this trip.
This will probably sound silly, but I am a very nervous flyer. I am taking a very similar trip in a couple days. This was so great for me to be able to watch and prepare as I was pretending I was there. Thank you so much
Not silly at all my friend. You’re one of many people now who have commented similar things on my videos. So you’re not alone! This is not something I ever considered my videos would be used for, but I’m so glad they can help you and others like this. Thanks for watching!
Used to love leaving JFK at night. Thanks, as always, for sharing! Your videos really got me through 2 years of lockdowns here in Australia, and also help me at night with my insomnia and OCD. Even though our borders are back open now and I'm finally flying again soon (787-9, can't wait) this channel will continue to be a staple for me!
I'm glad to hear my videos helped you though the last two years my friend. I'm also glad you found the channel to start with, and are continuing to watch! Thanks my friend!
Congratulations for yet another upgrade! Fantastic video. I wish I could have heard the PA announcements a bit better, but man I love the sound of those engines! Keep up the great work!
@35:06: That's the perfect nighttime wallpaper for my Android ☺. Have you done international overnight flights longer than this? Reason I ask, is I would like to fly to maybe South Africa, but I think it might be around 16 hours (can't recall exactly). I'm nervous about flying at night for that long. Thanks.
Great video, now you will have to travel to my country of origin on Air New Zealand, they are flying B789’s currently from LAX and soon to start from JFK (or maybe EWR given their Star Alliance connection with United). The terrain around KEF reminded my of Kona (KOA).
Gotta admit... Not the original intention of my videos... But many people have left similar comments, and as the parent of a 4-year-old, I understand haha. I'm glad they are able to help with that my friend!
Thanks my friend. Yes, so starting with my trip to Iceland last month, I have upped the quality level of my videos once again. I’m always striving to have the best quality aviation content on RUclips. That now includes having new uploads be available at 4K60fps, as well as them being shot in full HDR, and having enhanced audio. I still have a lot of footage to post from before I made the change, so not all uploads are going to be at this level yet. But eventually, they will all be at this level.
This is the exact flight that I will probably have to take to get to Iceland and then from Keflavík I guess I can go to other cities in the country? Also, I feel like the takeoff was the same as with the Frankfurt, Germany from 2022 but in this one after takeoff it starts to head further north.
And good grief how long is the taxi to takeoff? 😜 Also amazing in that the Winglet on the 767 is 11” tall. Yikes 😳 thanks for your diligence holding the camera for these long flights. I so commend you 🙏🏻
Yeah, so the one real shortcoming iPhone cameras have is that they are horrible when it comes to slowly changing light. Like that at dawn or dusk. So, I had to wait a few minutes between dark to dawn before the camera would focus correctly.
Thank you. Having just returned from Iceland, it brought me right back. Question, you don't happen to know the name of the soundtrack onboard? It was Iceland Easy listening. Wish I would have taken a picture of it. Would love to hear it again.
I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend and I'm glad it could re-kindle those memories. As for the soundtrack onboard. I do not know the answer to that question.
Well, I haven't ever made a video about it, but I have posted stuff about my equipment on Instagram and there community tab before. As far as my setup goes, it's pretty simple. I use iPhones to film. I currently travel with one 1TB iPhone 13 Pro, and two 512GB iPhone 12 Pros. I then hold the camera by hand to film. Sometimes the best results are achieved by the simplest means.
Yep, you can't beat New York when it some to spectacular nighttime city views. It used to be that Manhattan was the blazing bright spot in NY. But today, your night flight shows the truth: the other boroughs and New Jersey are a lot brighter than Manhattan! I've watched other night flights of NY and you see the same thing. Now, I need to rest up from the jetlag from losing 4 hours of time.
You and me both on the jet lag. As we've discussed in the past, flying east is always harder. Not only did I take this flight, but then I had an hour bus ride to the domestic airport, a 6 hour layover, and another hour flight before I got to my hotel. It was a LONG day.
I haven't had too many night flights recently, but I can confidently say I've always enjoyed the breathtaking night lights of cities. Filming part though? Not so much... Videos being too dark on past iPhones, reflections from the cabin, etc -- and I've always gotten irritated and ended up avoiding night flights when possible. I recall your community post from not too long ago about finding a solution to this challenge, and I must say this is indeed impressive. The fact that it's a 767 makes it even better. What changes did you have to make to get such nice results, if you don't mind?
I see this is an old comment but I'm guessing he covers the window with something, so that reflections from the cabin don't appear in the window. He could also be using a CPL filter
Yes, I showed it right as I was boarding. This one's name is Svörtuborgir. Which according to google translates to English as Black Fortress. It is the name of a row of volcanic craters west of Námafjall near Lake Mývatn.
Well, that's kind of hard to do now. Considering they're very rare and almost no one flies them haha. Believe me, I would if I could. I loved the MD-80/90. But they're not really easy to find anymore.
I definitely don't talk. That just leads to a lot more work for me when editing haha. I definitely don't sleep, as I've yet to master filming while sleeping haha. But I do take a quick break if I need to use the restroom from time to time and I do eat. I just do that with my free hand haha.
Great fly! Have you ever seen KLM's "100" temporary livery? It was a livery with "100" painted on it to celebrate KLM's 100th anniversary in 2019 and it is the oldest airline that is still operating today under the original name.
