And Justice For All always was one of my favourite tracks , and since it's so long i never realised that the intro was this long. Even with that i still think it's an underrated song.
I think every dream theater song has a very long intro, usually longer than tallica. Especially tracks like a change of seasons, count of tuscany, octavarium, best of times, glass prison and others. They only have vocals early in their ballads
I think some of DT's intros could be standalone songs on their own just because of how long they are
Honestly, Inamorata was the song I looked forward to the most in 72 Seasons, maybe it will be another banger like Outlaw, Bleeding, or Fixxxer. Then I listened to it, it was amazing, then after the solo, I expected maybe another verse perhaps? But they stretched it out to 11 mins, and this is just my opinion, but they could've made it a bit more special
I…kinda agree. I love the song, but it feels like there could’ve been more to it. A great example that comes to mind is “The Edge of The World” by DragonForce. Go check it out and compare it to Inamorata.
Honestly? I do prefer the extended harmony/solo over another verse in this case.
Having another verse would've been super boring. They used the 11 minutes really well IMO, everything after the first solo feels really fresh and the final 6 minutes fly by.
In my opinion the "Room of Mirrors" music video is the best one they've made ever
For me it's One or All Nightmare Long, those are both iconic and just awesome respectively
Same. It give extra feeling to the song
Yeah, especially since I think that was the first animated music video they've done (at least to my knowledge) so that definitely adds to the overall badass factor of the song
@@andrewpappas9311 the first one was Here Comes Revenge, but I agree.
@@sancamilobad Oh it was Revenge, admittedly I haven't seen the video for that song but cool to know that was the first one
for me, the worst part of met is kirk. from 2016 actually, death magnetic had some good lead parts
I don't understand why Kirk always do the same thing, because he prooved that he could have good lead ideas with his EP.
Pink Floyd - Time
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Progsters have long intros: Rush, Yes, Genesis.
You mentioned the music videos being bad and I was immediately reminded of Too Far Gone's first music video. The damn thing was so bad they made a second one, LOL!
Slayer Hell Awaits - vocals starts at 3:20
Lmao i like to play hell awaits on guitar and i never noticed that
4:00 my favorite track
I do have to admit that while they do some long intros really well there are some songs that do get kinda tedious like you said, and while I'm definitely happy to hear mention of Shine On (one of my favourite lengthy songs/Floyd songs in general) the band that comes to mind with long intros is Deep Purple with "Lazy" which comes in at the 4:22 mark (the song is 7:22 so Ian Gillan's vocals come in when there's only three minutes left in the song) and lasts for only about a minute and a half with only two verses, but the opening jam session at the start is totally worth it because the soloing between Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord is just fucking awesome
Nice example
I'm surprised you didn't mention 72 Seasons, since a lot of people complain about how it's "too long", so I calculated how long they play until James sings since you didn't.
72 Seasons - 1:35
Shadows Follow - 1:03
Screaming Suicide - 0:56
Sleepwalk My Life Away - 1:14
You Must Burn! - 0:49
Lux Æterna - 0:32
Crown of Barbed Wire - 1:05
Chasing Light - 0:00
If Darkness Had a Son - 1:22
Too Far Gone? - 0:47
Room of Mirrors - 0:38
Inamorata - 1:13
The amount of time they played before James sang from longest to shortest
1. 72 Seasons
2. If Darkness Had a Son
3. Sleepwalk My Life Away
4. Inamorata
5. Crown of Barbed Wire
6. Shadows Follow
7. Screaming Suicide
8. You Must Burn!
9. Too Far Gone?
10. Room of Mirrors
11. Lux Æterna
12. Chasing Light
About Metallica overlong song writting per album:
From KEA to The Black Album: Absolutly justified, don´t changue a note, music wise is just too good
Load: Mostly justified, tbh the issue ain´t the lenght of songs, or intros, but overall lenght of the album, at least one or two songs can be cuted.
Reload: same as above, but about 4 songs can be cuted
st Anger: Injustified, the lenght of some of the tracks, for what they offered was just too much
Death Magnetic: Mostly justified, seems like something could be cuted, but al around it was enough
HTSD: Mostly justified, again is the lenght of the album what punches it, but here i do belive one intro (and outro) shall be cuted, in Confusion
72S: Injustified, issue is, it didn´t changued a thing since the last album, so it feels way long and a lot sould been cuted honestly
Would you count Annihilator - Crystal Ann/Alison Hell?
opeth does have a really long intro on "the apostle in triumph" where they don´t sing until 2.17 or something
Mikael from Opeth recently apologyses for making such long intros. He was talking about the song "To bid you farewell"
I'd say it's being typically limitede to E standard tuning.
🤘🤘🤘
Sonic youth / pink steam. Vocals start at 5.09 in a 6.57 track
i would say some kind of monster was 2:07 I just checked it right now.
I can't believe I'm saying this but Black Metal intros are surprisingly short in comparison to Metallica.
The longest one I can even think of is Destruktor - Forever The Blood Shall Flow where the vocals come in at 2:37, but that's the only above 2 min song I know in my head.
LOL, you can have the opposite... Like a punk bank I knew who had a song called 'a sip of beer'. It was one power chord and the singer taking a sip of beer.
Dream Theater, Opeth or any other prog band counts, I think.
2:49 Alright here are my guesses 1: and justice for all 2: some kind of monster 3: outlaw torn
If CDs could hold up to 12 hours of music and you had to choose 96 Metallica songs to go on the CD, which song would you chose as the opening song?
This has to be the most specific music question I've heard lol
But for the opening song...I'm stuck between Orion/Ktulu
Epic instrumentals that are heavy in their own right, and what a more...unique-ish(?) way to start your Metallica journey than to start with the beloved Instrumentals
This Album is like what a Commercial Album would be.
To me it could be James's ad-libs, many of the yeahs are ok, but sometimes that -andah at the end of certain words gets a bit corny after a while. At the same time it's one of the trademarks of his singing tho.
Since St. Anger they wrote unnecessary long songs just to say "hey we did some work here".
Fuel must have the longest intro without vocals in their catalogue, takes forever to start...
You have to wait 7 minutes and 33 seconds for James to open his mouth on To Live Is To Die... smh
Slayer have long intros and to live is to die, James talks 5-6 minuts in the song 🤘
My death metal band has one track where the lyrics start at 2.33, which is over one third into the song. It's pretty much just a large amount of cool riffs that are pointlessly packed together just because we thought they were cool. If we were to make that song now, we definitely would remove at least half of that intro :b
What's your band called?
I'd love it if you gave your opinion about the track after you heard it. Also, did you listen to the album version or the single version? I have no idea which Yotube/Spotify would recommend to a first-time listener
Unpopular opinion but its probably why Im not the biggest fan of Master of Puppets. 😅
Probably the worst thing about Metallica today is, Majority of Hammet's solos don't hit as much as they used too
And I'm not one of those people who'll say "Classic Kirk was the best!" , because Kirk can absolutely still bring Godly Solos, look at how we just unwinds unto Death Magnetic, and giving us another 10/10 solo on "Day That Never Comes".
Actually the worst solo on that record, "End of the Line"...Is at worse, 3-4/10, but then again that song itself is like a mash of other riffs that could have fit onto other songs...the rest of his work on that record is close to how he was on Puppets/Ride in my personal opinion, Not exact but it's clear Old Kirk can still mimic his Prime, and Live shows...well, show this even today
Hardwired/Seasons have 1 arguably "Kirk Hammet is Back" moment
That face melting solo on Spit out the Bone, especially with that cool ending piece of the descalating sound he does. And for Seasons, Room of Mirrors, The Harmonies are a Plus.
His solos on both these recordings are not as bad as like "End of the Line", But feel like they could have been more than what he made.
I'm not a professional guitarist myself, but his solos I feel like could have been improved. Kirk has proved to us He absolutely can nail it, Look at his EP "Portals", He is a creative artist at heart.
And neither am I saying just copy and paste what he did back in the old days, Listen to his solos on
-Struggle Within
-Bleeding Me
-Fuel/Prince Charming
-Day That Never Comes
All songs from records that are not "Classic Metallica" but are close to being...Perfect or ARE perfect in my personal opinion.
And Hardwired/Seasons, Love these albums to death, but Kirk can do better in my humble fan opinion.
Not saying he has to pour his heart out every solo, but some songs would have benefited more if his solos were overall, better.
This is my rambling, hope you enjoyed it my Weird Web Strangers
Glad you mentioned Prince Charming! Doesn't get nearly enough credit that it deserves
James lyrics (after justice) are usually awful. But I really don't care that much about it.
Most lyrics on Load And Reload are pretty good to me honestly. Some hidden lyrical gems in the later albums like That Was Just Your Life or Judas Kiss
I have to disagree there, bud.
Respectfully disagree
-Bleeding Me
-Fixxxer
-Outlaw
-Inamorata
-Room of Mirrors
-Spit Out The Bone
-ManUNkind (Unpopular opinion)
-Unforgiven...3
-That Was Just Your Life
-Judas Kiss (Arguably the most 80s sounding 'Tallica modern track)
-Wild Things
-Misery
@@redyyz4489 The dude has no idea what he's talking about. Thanks for the examples.
The curse of Metallica is fake double bass on official live videos :D
this is what i hate the most of Metallica and it doesn't depend of the album, it's just boring
Come on don't be like that. We're all here for Metallica they are such a good band
@@rambolambo007 I'm a fan, and as a fan, i have to accept the worst part of one of my favorite bands.
Darn I was gonna say Orion
