Great video Gary - some great hints & tips & some drop dead gorgeous pics. Loving the Glencoe footage which also serves as a great reminder of the fantastic 3 days imaging I had in your presence..
WRT to "don't tell the wife" - my man in Wex in London greets me with a smile and a chat when I pop in for a kit fix, but pretends he's never met me before when I'm accompanied by Mrs T.
Great presentation Gary. Love the moody skies and rugged mountains such a change from other channels which are sunrise/sunset focused. Best images are when the weather is changeable 👍
Hey Gary, I was the photographer in the house next door on Skye during that very wet and windy week. Never got a chance to say hello, but was interested to see what you got in those “challenging conditions”! Unfortunately I had to leave on the day the snow came. Shooting hand held was definitely the order of the day in those winds though! My tips from that week, “keep wiping the lens” and “use the weather you’re given” my best shots came from the worst weather, worth all the drenchings.
Hi Andy. Would love to have said hello, sorry we missed each other. Challenging conditions indeed. You're so right, and as Alistair's tip said "if the weather gives you lemons, shoot lemons" 🤣😊😁 I'd love to see what you came away with
Thanks for that Gary, and you are never to old to learn, watching your an others blogs, there is always something to pick up.👍 All the best.............Peter.
Love your latest video great tips last tip could work the other way don't tell hubby what you spend. Great photos I used to live in Fort William it's a stunning place
Loved the video Gary, the food tip was the best, I never leave without my Cadburys Chocolate and a can of IRN-BRU, which is a bit of a luxury here in Canada.
@@GaryGough Think I am older than you, and still love the sweet stuff, but then we Scott's are not known for our diet, ps I mentioned you In my very first video from pollett river.
This is a superb video Gary,, really like this format, the photos you make are always stellar. Ps... when will the next round table be ? Miss you guys!
Some outstanding tips here Gary along with a healthy dose of humor thrown in! The one with the " pickles " gave me a good laugh too... As always, great images! Bill on the Hill, Vermont, USA... :~)
I always think photography is easy to learn but difficult to master. When you have a master making it look easy that's Gary Gough. Another great watch!
Great fun Gary, loved the tips and loved the moody images of the boat - surprised though you didn't include a tip about not flying a drone near the pier!!
The photos of the stranded boat in the mist at fantastic. Love that sort of shot. Great tips, especially the Monster Munch one.......but Beef flavoured! 😀
Good to see the smiles and hear your dolcid tones again, I thought nessy might have got ya! Late tip -Watch out for the local tipple it will blur your shots MJ
Good Stuff! Tip 1 is basically like 'A joke isn't funny if you have to explain it'. Of course tho with abstract photography this doesn't matter so much as it probably won't have a 'story' but a good one for more 'standard' photography. Going up to Scotland with my trusty LUMIX G9 soon, looking forward to shooting in a few Lochs and mountains :) Cheers Gary
Loving the Isle of Skye, great video as always Gary. Tip, side lighting can be best for showing texture, contours and often detail, remember photography doesn't have to be a competition!
Great video and great tips. I live by The No1 tip and when I pop my clogs, if the wife sells my kit for what I told her it cost, someone is going to get a real bargain ha ha 🤣
One of my Ecology tutors used to say, "if a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing badly!", meaning you might not have much time or the ideal equipment but better imperfect than not at all.
Gary, Oh, you said "tips." I thought you said "ti...." well, never mind. Good to see you back, buddy! Good wisdom you've accumulated and disbursed here. Thank-You, Mike
Great tips... And stunningly beautiful images! Mine never turn out like that, so I think I'll just go and buy a new lens (-definitely won't tell the wife what it cost!).
Much easier than squinting the eyes. Set the mode to Black and white on camera. Get a good idea on shadows and highlights. Image will download in colour, when you show it in your software.
Speaking of so called RUclips experts, which there are many and have a huge following. It's the images that count not the constant talking or equipment tests. I consider my self lucky to learn from a darkroom and film, though I use do use digital now. Having said that, the photographer who constantly produces the goods with stunning images in my opinion, is Gary Gough. Thoroughly entertaining too.
After hearing your No 1 tip I have now amended my will with a note to my son, "don't let your mum sell my gear for the price she thinks I paid for it!" Great video, now I wish I was back on Skye.
At apprrox 13.45 you suggest that 'practice makes perfect'. I'd like to amend that to 'perfect practice makes perfect'. There's little point practicing if the method used is incorrect. Trite - maybe - but true.
Great video and some great tips, thank you. I’d be interested to hear your opinion - whilst to self critique your images is good, there is a danger you might not spot potential improvements as you will only see what you can see. You might think your image is fantastic when actually it’s pretty average. But, if you get a better photographer to critique your images, they can really point out opportunities to improve.
I must I agree with some but dont agree with many haha. It's funny how people see stuff at the end of the day photography is subjective and you should do it for yourself and it o ly becomes an issue if you need to make money from it. My tip to everyone if to chill out and have fun with taking photos.
That's because it's hard work :) Besides, wouldn't you rather live in a crappy house overlooking rather than live a castle looking out to crappy houses?
by woodland do you mean forest??? are those shots HDR'd? keep up the good work. unfortunately my wife pays the bills. but get out and shoot, can't score without shooting.
I wrestle with commenting on a photo I've taken. I feel sometimes people need a push to get what you're trying to say with a photo. People's brains are so cluttered, they need some reining in to get them to focus and see your point. But another way to look at it is maybe you are only playing toward the people that are getting it without the comments...
Totally agree with the “sexist “ comment.. My wife thinks I got a bargain purchasing my Nikon Z7, 24-70 F4 and 14-30 F4 for the brilliant price of £800
Tips? Lmao 😂 tips... every time you said tips it sounded like... well watch it back Gary. Haha brilliant! I’m more of an arse man myself 😘😜 hope your keeping well, your looking well as ever, you tip
Not really a landscape specific tip, more of a beginner tip. Always have at least one spare memory card, which you keep in your bag.to protect against the day when you get your camera out and realise your card is still in your laptop at home. It happened to me when I was on a boat in the North Sea. I was totally screwed. I called myself a few names that day.
Our landscape is blighted with seika spruce woodlands ‘ devoid of color ‘ sown to close together for maximum profit with little or no life in the understory’ looks the same regardless of the time of year’ bring back our natural wild woodlands and give wildlife a refuge and help the planet as well ‘ we owe it to our future childern
Re 1st tip. I think that people who don't take photographs don't always understand the elements that create an effective image. As with many aspects of "Art", we do need a little bit of education.
i understand using a phone camera to help find and visualize a comp but refuse to elevate my telephone to the status of a real camera, instead try using a comp/ viewing card like charles cramer and the master ansel adams, you will find comps much faster than your overpriced iphone :)
Oh, the number one tip could be easily rewritten to be non-sexist (because it is true in any way and form): Never reveal the true cost of your equipment to your significant other! Well, it might not help due to the internet and Amazon …
Well I think just like you did in your video. Have fun and laugh. A pleasure to view.
Thank you Gary, very kind 👍👍
Excellent help and well done for your landscape photography.

Just an observation, there are not many RUclipsrs shooting landscape that actually get in or up the mountains it almost always shot from the roadside.

My best tip to all: Always give your photography instructor a tip.
That should have been my number one tip. Love it 😊😁🤣
Hand held landscape photography, I wish, to start with you need a steady hand, and a reasonably fast shutter speed.
Obtaining a fast shutter speed whilst out shooting during the day shouldn't be a problem. If in doubt just raise your ISO
I wrestle with commenting on a photo I've taken. I feel sometimes people need a push to get what you're trying to say with a photo. Fair point. I'm very self critical. If I feel I could have done better I get upset. It keeps me on my toes :)
I buy the odd lens that my wife doesn't know about - hasn't seemed to improve my photography though 😂👍
lol Cheers🤣😊😂 Elton
Regarding the last tip - always buy black, it's less noticable. It also helps to buy from your local camera shop, they understand the rules.
I have a small problem with your top tip as she's the branch manager at our bank. ;-D
