    Wonderfull!! One of the most thorough tutorial video ever watched on RUclips. It's really reflecting your flexibility on the theory of guitar and a very clear explanation of the harmony side of the track, with triads details. Nothing else to say, simply a perfect tutorial!

    • @DefinitelyDean
      @DefinitelyDean  10 лет назад

      Thanks for the positive feedback Marcus, very much appreciated!
      I always try to offer some applied music theory when teaching, especially with the more complicated songs.
      After learning basic scale theory on piano it opened up a whole new world to my guitar playing, as I suddenly understood all the formulas of harmony and how the notes were connected to the scale (kinda like decoding the matrix - lol).
      Glad to hear the explanation was clear and comprehensive. I hope you have as much enjoyment learning some of the other Winehouse classics in my playlist.
      Thanks again (,")

  • @parachutes2005

    Thanks for the great lesson, was really helpful! Can you please recommend some more jazz songs to learn? I'm falling in love with these kinds of chords. Perhaps a short list of jazz standards? To give you an indication, I'm comfortably playing the chords to this song (I Heard Love Is Blind), Till There Was You and learning Desafinado. Would greatly appreciate a list of standards to work on. Thanks!

    • @DefinitelyDean
      @DefinitelyDean  9 лет назад

      +parachutes2005 Glad this lesson was helpful. Re: jazz chords - I've never had any formal training so have never learnt any actual standards. All my knowledge of these chords initially cam from learning songs by Amy, CBR, Stevie Wonder...
      From there I began to break down the harmony using scale theory and started working out the common voicings for 4 & 5 note chords. I still have a desire to take it further but learning standards just isn't practical for my.
      Unfortunately I can't recommend what standards to learn as I have no experience other than learning songs. If you're into music from the 80's however, you'll find that most of them use these 'extended chords'. Funk, Blues & Gospel will also take you down that route.

And a couple of intermediate chords can be added too, for transitions, and the lolz obviously. I do understand you had to explain them anyway. Thanks a lot

    That was a really great lesson! Thank you do much. I also thought it was really cool how you didn't bother to swap the genders when you were singing it, so silly and bro-ish when guys do that. Lastly is your guitar a seagull spruce top, if so we have the same guitar! Haha

      +Will Riley Cheers Will, glad to hear you enjoyed the lesson. These songs can be tricky so good to hear the lesson was helpful.
      Yeah I'm playing a Coastline S6 - spruce top with cherry back & sides. Not a very common guitar so cool that you play the same model. The warm tones are great but the wider nut with can sometimes make barring & thumb over techniques a little tricky.
      The Gully has served me well for over a decade but I've got my eye on a Taylor with a tapered neck for my next purchase (,")
