I like to use outdoor Christmas light holders/clips for the pothos. They are compact, clip to the back of a rimless tank nicely, and you can get a lot of them for little money. 🙂
That's a great idea!
Whitch one's? There are so many.
Holiday Joy - 200 Mighty Clip Lights on Amazon.
@@anthonychang2367 I am going to check em out now
There are so many excellent ideas in the chat. Putting everyone's heads together works. ❤️
I'm using clear, suction cup tooth brush holders to hold pothos in my rimless tank. I like that I can position them a little further down, since I keep the water level a few inches below the top to prevent jumpers.
I like it!
Just use a peice of tiny plastic coated wire. Costs nothing and works perfectly. Plus it's fully adjustable. No need for anything fancy.
I bought about 20 meters of airline tube years ago. I now cut wire coat hangers or garden wire into various lengths, slide it into an airline tube and melt the ends closed. Agree with you, keep it simple, minimal and adjustable.
@@jonduffin7560 another brilliant idea!!
I'm going to try that. Have been thinking of perspex brackets and over complicating things. Now I'm just joint to chop up a plastic coated clothes hanger 👍🏻
@@matthewburley880 Does the trick! Just make sure you check it isn't getting too tight around the base of the plant every so often! That's the only thing to be aware of.
@@IndoorEcosystem will do thank you.
I use a small binder clip because that's what I have. The little metal loop is just big enough to hold a pothos stem, and the rest of the thing is hidden under the plant so it looks fine.
For my open top tanks I use large cork lids for canning and larger jars. Cut a hole in the center and poke some pothos cuttings in the hole and just let it float around. Works great, if the plants start getting tight I just enlarge the center hole a bit. Easy peasy.
I really like the pothos holder though, very nice to keep plants on one side or end of the tank. Very nice, thanks, Mike.
👍❤️👍
Thats a great Idea! Before i found they I was trying to brainstorm a floating solution, couldn't think of one... thanks Shelby!!!
@@AQUAPROS I like the round floating cork lids because I can float 3 or 4 of them in a tank, and they grow some great good bacteria. My ramshorn snails are always all over them, bottom, sides, and out of the water on top of them happily munching away, and it's cool to see the plants floating gently around like they do naturally on a lazy, slow creek.
But I really like the pothos carrier thing because that gives stability to more sturdy, heavier plants. I'm thinking a combo of both will be the best of both worlds. 👍💖👍
When you add emersed plants of any kind to an aquarium nitrogen and nitrates go out the window. All the CO2 the plants have access to allows for far more nutrient absorption as well and the root mass of the plant. One that works super well just to suck up nitrogen is purple waffle plant. Super easy to grow.
The purple waffle looks great. I'll be trying to find one. It's definitely better than emerged plants.
I use big short cholla for a natural look. I use a black coated wire to fix in place. Put your roots in the inside, the roots fix themselves, growing through the holes. If you want to fix it to the substrate too, let it sink and pull (or don’t pull) the pathos leaves. I would definitely use the other one in a contemporary tank.
My aquarium is near a window. The house plants I put just the roots in are doing great, and so are the fish. It's a win-win situation.
If you use glass tops for standard rimmed tanks you can just take a one inch hole saw and drill holes in the plastic strip along the back. Works perfectly!
I've been using this plant holder for 3 years now I love it and try to spread the word
Wow, I've been using them for 3 years now. You won't be disappointed. Quick delivery and the owner is a very nice guy. Enjoy!
Wow what a coincidence! I recently saw them on Etsy and thought about getting them but I wasn’t sure how good they were. Then along comes your video….Now I’m definitely going to get some. Thx for the review
Glad I could help!
I grew a pothos Vine in an aquarium for 15 years it ended up growing up my wall across the living room across other aquariums. Each aquarium that it touched along the way it would drop Roots I had the bend it back towards its original aquarium but eventually over the years it was attaching to the walls of my house so unfortunately I had to cut it all back I am still growing it but only around the original tank.
yooo thats awesome tho!!!!!!
The community would love to see pictures or even better a video 😓
Love that you gave Will a shout out. He comes off like good people and seems to have a good product
Heck ya, when I find something LEGIT i share the love 🥰
As I sit here in my sun room figuring out what I can add to my tank or mount to my wall to have pothos come outta my tanks this video pops up lol 🤙🏼
The algorithm is listening to your thoughts..... 😳😎😂
@@AQUAPROS lol I wouldnt doubt it .......those plant holders are "LEGIT" !!! thanks for the video my dude
Ooooh those clips are great! Thanks for the info on prepping the plants too
This is a great idea! I attached a chain to the ceiling that hangs down so my pothos grows upwards from the tank. It started as a small cutoff but its around 3 feet now. Still aways to go before it hits the ceiling, but its growing quite fast especially since I added growlight.
The main issue is dosing enough fertilizer, it is growing out of a planted blackwater tank with lots of floaters aswell so there is a real battle for nutrition going on 😄
I've only got a bristlenose and around 15 kuhli loaches inthere so its a small bioload aswell, but I am considering to add a bunch of male guppies for more color and poop 🤗
love those plant holders! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like them!
I got some pothos today for my aquarium.. I am so getting some of these!! Thank you for the review of them. The look great. 😊
I've never thought to use mondo grass. I have tons of it in my garden so will be sure to try that, thank you!
There's black mondo grass that I've been wanting to try. A mix of the two would be pretty cool.
I always just used aquatic plant pots and some wire to hook a plant with some LECA on the side. I do like these 3D printed models, though. I might get one or two.
These are sweet!
@@AQUAPROS I just ordered one. I will finally be able to combine multiple varieties of pothos together in a tank!
Awesome info. Thank you.
Great video Mike! 👏
Thanks Tiff 😎😇
What plant did you use besides the potos, thanks inspiring scape
Dude Pothos plant is the best plant for all your aquariums and ponds those things can grow directly in the water no dirt needed and it cleans your water so well I use them in all my ponds and aquariums its very underrated.
I agreeeee :D
I have pothos cuttings in clear jars of water all around the house. Love them. Now I will definitely add one to my fish tank. 👍😎
Good info and I think you mentioning Will is Awesome!!!
Omg those are epic. I was just wondering how I was going to add an orchid to my tank! What timing, thank you!
Hi! Orchids can be tricky - they often rot :( I had success once (only once), I had a piece of corkbark floating near the back covered in java moss and managed to keep it going for about 2 years. Also, tank water can be quite low in potassium for flowering - dried hibiscus flowers are a good/cheap source and great food for snails or shrimp. Good luck!!
@Jon Duffin Thanks Jon!
Glad I could help! ;)
You can use sponge or mesh and wrap smaller plants to fit the unit.
I discovered Poth-O-Cary just over 1 year ago & I love them!
YAY!
Repeat after me: "PAH-thōs, PAH-thōs, PAH-thōs"
Chihiros RGB magnet light is exactly what you want. Comes with the metal disc with adhesive on the back. Comes with power supply and had Bluetooth that lets you control it from your phone. It's less than 50 dollars on Amazon as well.
i like your original setup ,it looks more natural.I'm thinking of fix the pothos on floating driftwood.it look natural and neat
Attach a suction cup to the little black plastic basket/pot that comes with potted aquarium plants. No limit to how high or low you need the basket to be.
I've been thinking about adding some terrestrial plants to my 20 long for a while now. Just ordered one of those clips to check it out. Thanks for promoting that!
Thanks!!!! Glad to help :)
I have re-purposed Specimen Containers that I cracked - drill a few holes in them and use them instead of throwing them in the garbage - Also recycled yogurt cups and a cheap plastic clamp from Harbor freight -
I use paperclips to hold the plants out of the water and form around the stems and branches to redirect them where you want them.
Instead of washing of the soil and then waiting for the roots to get used to being in water, place a cutting into water then it would send out new roots that are capable of being in water.
We love Poth-O-Carry. I've even starting using some of the items around the house NOT in aquariums. LOL
Thats tight! 😎
Ok I gotta hear this! You gotta send some photos of improvised Poth-o-placement
Se houvesse legendas em português, seria muito mais legal ainda😊
Pois é hahaha
I use suction pieces from Petco/Petsmart and attach a loop of airline tubing, one end tucked in the other and glued. Size can be adjusted. Cost? A few dollars for many, vs $10 per item for these.
Amazon sells a common basket with suction cups/brackets that seems to work. The Pothocarry seems to secure it better. But what really caught my eye was the raised light/shelf. Who sells that?
PothOCarry FOR THE WIN!
oh heck yeah :)
I have lucky bamboo fully submerged in my fish tank. I give them 8 hours of light each day and they’ve been thriving since I planted them 9 months ago.
If you apply a heat gun or use the hottest hair dryer setting on the plant holder plastic you could reform the bend to fit your bigger tank.
Will try! Thanks!
Newb question what kind of light would I need above the tank for those plants to be happy
Great video. I tried it with pothos and all the roots rotted, caused ammonia spike what I was expecting because of rotting roots. My aquarium is 1.5 years old so it could stand so much ammonia and ofcourse I was changing water daily. Removed the plant and cut the roots. I recommend just cutting the plant and waiting for new roots if your tank is new
Thanks for sharing!
I’d like if they were camp or mottled somehow so they blend in with plants somewhat before plants bush out or moss grows on them.
BRILLIANT INFO FOR NEW FISH TANK KEEPER,
THANKS😊
Hi, how many hours of artificial light do you recommend that these plants get per day? What house plant do you think absorbs the most nitrates in an aquarium?
For the magnet fix, 3M makes those sticky Velcro things that are super and most importantly, cheap.
I use the same plant clips i use to clip my trailing vines to the wall in my tank
Put some crystal red shrimp in that fern tank!
Nice lights are they on Amazon ?
If i have a lid (with integrated light), can i just poke the pothos through the cord holes??
Several months ago, I purchased an HOB filter, and I put the pothos in the HOB. They grow, but not as fast as they used to. Is that because of water flow?
Will does have nice plants, I got some recently
chreers!
does plant grow under the white light?
A Potho carry. That's a pun and I am here for it
(apothecary)
Can you use any plant you want ? Thanks.
I've got a plant but roots wont come clean of dirt. Any recommendations
I've always been wiery to do no lod on a aquarium , don't want my fish jumping so through the area open of hob filter ima do
I really want to put pothos in my aquarium. I heard it's not safe for cats. Do you know anything this? If so can you recommend plant friendly plants?
I bought one of these ages ago. I've never used it, not sure why. I think I lost the front plate. I really need to find it and get it set up.
Its worth it!!!!
@@AQUAPROS I found the front plate! Going to get it set up today.
@@alyxandraramsey5828 🎉
Tried planting the bamboo in the water like I saw on other aqua shows and it just writes the same thing with the red bamboo which is not an bamboo either. Give us an update on your hanging system how it works I finally decided just use my old fashion cheap hang on that cost about nine to $10 for hang on filters I already had I put lava rock in it and I can adjust the depth for any plant by just adding or taking away a lava rock instead of using filter media in these cheap hang inside filters they’re not hanging on the back
Thanks for great informative video. Questions about the light... How many k is the color, how many lumen brightness, and how many hours on?
Thanks for the extra stickers bro
I gottchu Finn! 😎👍
Would you please add a link to the ONF light? Thank You!!
Girth Brookes
I bought one of these, I think I picked the wrong size :/ I have a tank with a rim. It still works better than the suction cup I was using at first though.
I hear they are pretty responsive to swaps. ;-)
Can you put a Japanese maple in or would it kill my fish
In my tank I have
A peace lily
Pothos
Monstrea
Chinese money plant
String of hearts
They are all thriving
They are in the back in the filter area that is cut off from the main tank.
Awesome!
How do you do this without fish jumping out?
In my experience the lucky bamboo grows very slowly and does little to purify tank water when compared to Pothos and a number of philodendron I have tried the last 10 years.
Interesting! imma do the experiment, already for the setup :)
I just use shower caddies. You know the ones with the suction cups? Ultimately though, I decided that anything looks worse than just hanging it or planning the tank around it.
I'd be worried about any anti-fungal material in those products
neat
i wonder if theyre safe for saltwater 🥺
you could blip some mangrove saplings in there
ocean water = highly corrosive
cant just throw whatever u want in there lol
Sir when ever I grow house plants in aquarium the plants root little brown type in after 5,6 months but plants health is good but same when ever I grow same plants in normal tap water there roots never brown always white can you tell me why?
What are those grass like plants in the begining of the vid (the ones beside the fern) ?,they look nice
I came for the clipping 3D printed holders. Left with “girth” lol. Really good product tho
Can you give me the names of houseplants that can be kept in an aquarium?
Is this good for gold fish tanks?
Where are you located? I can’t seem to find rimless tanks in Puerto Rico.
Is the Pothos safe for Shrimp?
Yes, I have had a pothos in my tank with amano shrimp for months and they're doing great.
I've heard others complaining about how weak the one magnet is!
... ya idk whats up, ive already sent the email :)
Does anyone have any good suggestions for turtle safe plants to grow on the side of tanks like this? I know pothos, bamboo, and peace lilies are toxic to turtles. I haven't seen any really fast growing plants that are pet safe
Your bamboo will grow if you put melted wax on the stump at the top.
i just cut bottle to attatch that plant
FYI, Lucky Bamboo isn't really bamboo... :)
You understand that girth is not just used to describe one’s genitalia diameter correct? You don’t have to apologize for using the word girth.
Girth isn’t a bad word
I think im gonna start just a empty 10 gallon an start putting some water change water in it an try growing random plants.
Pothos is easy to grow, even too easy till suddenly its roots have sticked to the wall. And usually the paint will got chipped, if we pull the pothos out. This is a drawback.
So I just do not understand why ppl just wouldn't buy taller bamboo stocks? I have them in my 40 breeder they 18inch stocks. I also got in the floral department of a grocery store, and at much cheaper price as well.
does anyone have a link to those shelves? 😭
ohhhhh Wayfair I think?
this is a plant torture show.
You can’t propagate a cutting if a prayer plant…it needs to be a root division.
Thanks, im a noob!
i would cut those weird weed looking plants in there. looks so dirty.
First! Ahaha
YEEEEET!
🤔
Bro, that's garbage plannnn😂😂😂
