That's true but you also have to remember that he can use higher percentages of One for All now, so that damage wouldn't be as significant.

Its less a counterattack quirk and more a reflection quirk, Flect uses it to redirect lazers. Every time Deku goes to hit him the physical force is reflected back at him.

Reflecting attacks back at your opponent is a counterattack. Don’t argue semantics if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
@@Croach193 a reflect is a type of counter attack. That doesn't mean they're interchangeable.
A reflect requires your opponent to be striking you, because it simply reflects it back to where it came from.
A counterattack is a means of striking back when you are attacked, that doesn't guarantee you did so by reflecting the attack back to its source. Deflecting an attack with a shield and then bashing your opponent with said shield would be a counter attack, but would not be a reflect.

Very early on, Horikoshi seeded the notion that Deku could occasionally go 100% without turning his bones to paste, though he doesn't quite have a handle on how to control it yet. It's kind of impressive how rarely that's gotten used. Must be tempting at times, as it's ostensibly a get out of jail free card for dealing with a singular threat like here
Unlike Toriyama, Horikoshi has a level of restraint as well as the ability to actually plan his series.

Knowing what we know now about OFA, every single time he's gone 100% you could argue that some of the other quirks within kinda leak out and show themselves.

We got a good hint of that the time he went 100% against Overhaul, too. What with Deku essentially floating in midair from the updraft of his movements, and a blink-and-you-miss-it shot of his ambient OFA electrical field whipping Overhaul's giant fighting form apart.
As much as I love this fight, that final hit always takes away from it for me a bit. It’s just that one extra word thrown in there. United States of world smash sounds so goofy

I've seen many super face offs before, but Deku... this was his greatest fight yet, never have I seen such a pulverizing on both sides. This was a battle to the death slug out between two MEN, and I refuse to believe otherwise, he may be a kid, but he's a battle born warrior when it comes down to it.

Goku and freiza v jiren is close simply because they were all exhausted going in to that final brawl. No of them had anything left in the tank.

while the animation and choreography was amazing , I was slightly disappointed.
When I saw the reflection quirk , I began wondering how in the world would you beat such a quirk which could reflect things with more force. I couldnt wait to see how streetsmart Deku would beat him.
I had no idea how Deku could even beat this villain, but sadly even the writer had no idea how to beat him. So it came down to hit it till it breaks. Sure quirks have a limit , but still
I feel like you're kind of missing the point here. To Izuku, this was his Nomu fight.
His opponent's quirk had a limit, and if it could handle what he could safely use, then he would just have to go beyond that and force him to surrender.
What were you expecting? Some physics breaking move that simultaneously hurt the villain without having any force behind it? It would make more sense for him to overwhelm it. It not only makes sense, since all quirks have limits, especially those that haven't trained them, but gives Izuku a moment to remind us that he only uses 7% of his power most of the time.
"Quirks have limits" but they also are superpowers that defy physics. A quirk that reflects kinetic energy so efficiently he fucking hovers because the force of gravity pushing his feet onto the ground is reflected back away from him should not be able to be beaten by just hitting it harder. And if it theoretically could, Deku's arms would be turned into paste LONG before they reached that limit by consecutively using OFA at 100% and also taking the damage of consecutive 100% smashes directly to his arms. It was a lazy, uninspired, and counterintuitive solution that defies what the canon has already taught us about the limits of quirks and the characters.
I was hoping he would do something clever like run around him so fast he creates a tornado, making a vacuum in the center and causing Flect to pass out. Sky High style. But sadly the fans expected too much of the writers.
@@bloodtypeinfinity5143 Truth be told, this movie makes me think that the bone breaking is mental. All Might told him it could kill him, so his fears are made manifest by OfA. Because even ignoring how many times he punches before his arms become broken, he's using 100% EVERYWHERE. His entire spine should be reduced to atoms along with his arms.
While not necessarily "beating" his opponent, an easy way to remove him as a threat is the tried and true "stick 'em in a hole" method

Gotta say. I love what the voice actor did at the "That's why, We can't lose!" I will say it hard to pin point exactly what he says in Japanese. I think its Dakara Make Rarenai. But it sounds like he ends it by just yelling right after. Muddies it a little bit. Could be saying Ra-Re and drawing out the Nai.

In the beginning he had no quirk and an impossible dream. A weakling but with a heart of gold.
Then he got a quirk but couldn't control it. He was self conscious about how far back he was.
Now he's good at his quirk. Confident in his resolve and ability.
Now he has both strength and heart.
What more is there to conflict or develop?
The newest episode has the past users goad him into killing Shigaraki.
That would've been a new direction.
But the previous users agree with him anyway.
It seems that for now, Deku is basically complete.
Todoroki has his family issues. Bakugou his ego.
What does Deku have that he needs to deal with as a person?

Really, counterattacks weakness is too many/much attack? Little cliche for a movie final boss.
It's not a weakness, it's just that Deku overwhelm the quirk until he got past its limit
But I do agree, this final boss was a fraud
What I enjoy about Flect telling Deku to shut up is that the hypocrite bastard knows that he's blaming his horrible past on his reflection quirk, when it would never have any influence on how his family/lovers/coworkers rejected him. The guy went right to blaming the world's problems on quirks, calling them a disease just like Overhaul because it covers for the fact that he's just projecting his disdain for others as gospel. Flect telling Deku to shut up just shows how right the young hero is, but doesn't want to humiliate himself by admitting his hypocrisy. It kind of feels like what Terry did to Joker in Batman Beyond Joker Returns where he's basically telling the clown that he's more of a joke now that he has to use someone else's body to come back and try keeping himself relevant. It probably passes people like Flect and Joker off like crazy when someone manages to tear apart all of the logic in their chaos.

Honestly, my issue here is that this fight feels like a repeat of the All Might vs Nomu fight, and the big bad is basically another Redestro.
I kinda felt like it was done purely to look cool.

@goddessyamato5238 no, haven't been able to yet, would love to though, MHA is a good anime with plenty of great scenes and a great soundtrack, it's definitely better than The Condom Pirate Hat Crew(Trash Piece) and Hyper Muscle Festival(Baki)
It's laughable that this joke of a side villain got a better animated fight than Shigaraki vs Deku in the latest season (or any other fight for that matter in the last 2 seasons). Making movies around side plots that don't matter and about about side characters that don't affect the main story. Budget wasted. All props the the animators who worked hard on this, but the higher ups that made the decision to shift most of the budget and talent to this side movie, are money hungry and nothing else.
Budget was not wasted because most people enjoyed the movie and that's it's purpose in the first place
