Su uses euphoniums, jsu uses baritones that’s why SU low brass is louder

I wanna give my unbiased opinion.. I’m a JSU die hard for good and bad. I’ve always loved SU music arrangements. I won’t give the edge to either band Bc they are equally yoked with two different styles they both are good at certain things and this was the battle we all were waiting for ima point out somethings that caught my attention tho.. both bands got tired lol it’s natural when you going at it all game. That Alicia junt was nice by SU. Jsu Lately was a nice response. 24:24 Little(Jsu band director) knew at this moment JSU was unmatched. 29:07 from SU that’s the one idk what’s it called but it’s lit. 38:50 JSU woodwinds are present and in full effect and 41:44 SU woodwinds responded back lol it’s all love man love JSU “like” SU 🥴

As a band director myself... I can tell you right now.. this ain't even close as far as musicianship. SU by far. That Beethoven Fur Elise/Alicia Keys was a flex to show we're REAL musicians classically AND we can blow you down... My God.. somebody turn the lights off 😭😭😭

This was a good and long battle. Both held their own. Whoever decided to place Jackson in the corner did them a huge favor. Their sound was consistent and you didn't hear any pitch and volume issues when they played. Thanks for sharing this video Kev. 😎🎼🎵🎶

Anyone with half of both ears working could hear the complexity of Southern’s arrangements. This is every year and not just this year. Inner and outer voicing, color and the ability to solidify the ending of a great arrangement as well. This is where the rest of the SWAC bands stop comparing and competing; including JSU. But, this is also why Southern is the Human Jukebox.
FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT!!! Like are people not hearing these crispy, articulate runs?!? There's no SWAC band in the nation that's playing with that much articulation, clarity, and musicianship. Lol. They literally played Beethoven (quite well) and transitioned into a CRAZY Alicia Keys arrangement that was amazing!! Like what are people listening to? 😭😭😭 It ain't even close.
SU btones had the volume of a few bands by themselves on a few songs 😮.... I still felt Jackson was more powerful...
Their low brass was powerful. Ngl. Their upper brass lost it for them to me. Su mellos finally showed up

As a JSU fan, I expected them to get stomped after all the footage I saw of SU this season... and then, JSU narrowly took the win. Color me suprised. SU sounded strangely inconsistent at times, and had some weak selections. But, Tbf, both bands didn't sound as strong as I'd have anticipated... although its the first season after covid, and it was COLD down in Baton Rouge. Great battle regardless. Good to have our favorite bands back.

Im hoping southern can expand their visitor section soon, it’s not very friendly to the other bands that visit. JSU didn’t even have room for their dance team, but I love two great bands showcasing their talents. These are things kids remember and want to be a part of. I know it helped me greatly on deciding to do band.
They do this purposely it doesn’t allow the visitors band the room needed so their sound can’t be fully heard. I’m glad JSU don’t do that crap

You're smoking crack if you think a collegiate athletic director is thinking about where a band sits when selling season tickets. The bands sit in the least desirable seats because premium seats are for season ticket holders and paying fans. Jeezus I wonder about some of yall
@@titus5097 I’ve seen high schools with a better visitor section, visitors come and spend money just like anybody else. At HBCU schools the band is arguably a bigger attraction than the actual football game. improving the visitor section only benefits the school. You don’t see white schools with this issue, so let’s fix it at our HBCU’s.

Very close battle. I got a tie. JSU rounds 2,4,5,7,9. However, I'm leaning JSU because they had better selections and surpisingly better arrangements overall. Great battle as I knew it would be.

Jsu won this fifth. They definitely humbled southern they were louder 🤷🏽♂️ southern sound died this performance their arrangements started to sound the same (loud half note/whole note , with a run into a loud ass tag note) they trombones also started getting drowned throughout the battle.

Ok after watching all channels footage, I give this battle to jackson. Southern "woman's worth" the whole prelude was beauty, it was their best song and I thoroughly enjoyed jsu "lately" right after. I'm starting to see ain't nobody trombones fkn wit jsu chords or anything they do that's just my opinion. Southern "power" I mean ain't nun you can dammit say the name says it all!. Jsu's first release on "knife talk" that is what precision on all cylinders get u man chills 🥶. This was a good ass 5th they both started gettin tired and Southern tbh should've just stopped after jsu left cuz that's when I heard some mistakes that Southern just don't usually make, I get the point they tried to make though. Now I'm ready for this Alcorn jsu battle to close the season out 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Acoustically why is JSU in the corner and SU in the middle of the stadium? Yeah I know they are AT SU but JSU overall sound and musicianship gets the edge, even in the corner of the stadium. SU, always dope as fudge, seems to get the edge because they play loud....like all the time. JSU, just sounded better for this 5th qtr battle. Both bands are superb.

These two bands really put on a show. The quality of arrangements and the showmanship goes beyond a mere battle. This is Culture. Both Bands believe they’re the best and you can hear it. I liked JSU in the earlier rounds and SU kicked it up in the late rounds. SU Power didn’t have the venom like I did against Texas Southern and JSU brought the energy. Slight edge to JSU. I was entertained more. Great 5th. Both Bands probably could’ve played another hour. That’s how good they both are.

Nothing jsu played did anything like the Juke's arrangement of A Woman's Worth. No consistent sections blended more eloquently in jsu's ensemble than SU the entire night. Arrangements separate bands from good to elite. The Jukes have been elite for decades; especially in the arrangement department.

Southern played with precision and power throughout the entire battle. They took everything JSU played and continued to eat. The song selections and arrangements were on point. Oh and don't act like you didn't hear dem Baritones and Trumpets feasting. SU took this one.
SU was good but JSU came with that BOOM & Precision for the win. SU been skating all year, POWER (which is a classic for SU)has been pushing them to wins not in this battle though.
I'm going to say this, Su had an answer for every song JSU played. I do believe JSU took the 4,5 and the round playing the nut cracker and a tie on the 3rd round. This night, SU had energy wasnt sounding tired in the later rounds. SU crank 5 more songs after JSU nut cracker.
It was a good classic battle, damn near an hour long. Close Battle. The Fans and the Bandheads Won with this one.
I'm an SU fan ALL DAY!!!! But I've never been one to sugar coat anything concerning them. You can't get better or fix the problem being delusional. SU is struggling with the arrangements and song selection. Yall lost two of your secret weapons... first Haymer and now Simmons. The talent is always gonna be there at SU but you have to know what to do with it and how to use it..... I gotta give the win to JSU... They were consistent and dominant!!!! SU was hit or miss with arrangements and had their scratch your head moments.

Ok had 2 listen again wit da Beatz. And Pay more attention to details. Still feel this wasn't Both shools best over this Band rivalry heated history wit SU dominating the last 2 or 3. But sadly it hurts my 💙 2 say with both Bands being quite equal on this night J-State controlled the flow and tempo. SU was reactionary. SU was sloppy on a few song endings and JState as well but SU more than I want to admit. JState song selections were a little bit better EVEN THE XMAS SONG YALL PLAYED. YALL PLAYED DAT 💩 WIT PASSION. Song Selection and Controlling da Flow is Everythang. Again I want to reiterate Brian Simmons is clearly missed. And You see and HEAR THAT. SEEMZ LIKE SU was to Cool and reserved. JSU fans are honestly just happy that thir band didn't suck this year and actually held its on against the Jukebox. SU Fans realize that we're not dominating the competition like we have been. Regardless of you wanna say we lost two awesome arrangers ( Heymer & Simmons) or not the gap is closing. Its Honestly a Tie. Both bands sounded amazing. Two of the best programs in America battling kids giving all they got. Im out yall be blessed keep god 1st.

12:30 is where SU shows their history of innovation, and it is at that point where they begin to pull away and gap competitors. 19:30 further extends their sweet science and originality. By the time we get to 35:45, SU has gone up too many levels and climbing.

If I was a visiting band director ain't no way I'd squeeze my band into that little section. The J-Settes couldn't even fit into the stands. Hell luckily last week FAMU was missing 40 members or they wouldn't have fit.
They sell the section right in front of the band, on purpose, so that the J-settes in some way will not be seen... They only do that when JSU plays at SU.
After listening several times the edge goes to SU. JSU had a few more arrangements that were better however SU arranges for POWER so that limits creativity sometimes. When SU had a great arrangement they KILLED JSU in execution of it. JSU didn't execute all of those arrangements and it was heard. There sound wasn't as mature as SU. Great battle though. No two band represent the 5th quarter better.
You need to go watch again because smoking out the window and a few others wasn’t executed good by SU and showed immaturity as well so stop with the biased review lol
@@jacktwnboss601 It wasn't a biased review. I would argue that you're a JSU fan and you simply want to hate on SU. I'm not a graduate of SU. I did attend a HBCU in the late eighties. I was in the band. I majored in Music education. I know respect isn't what you young people are about. I know SU doesn't play every song great or that the arrangements aren't always the best. However SU does not have an immature sound. There are a lot of factors to how a song sounds. Is it played in pregame or the 5th? Did they have a battle the night before? When did they get the song? So try to see the whole picture and not choosing a side. I've been listening to bands for over 35yrs. I know that means nothing to you. Like I said respect isn't what you young people are about. JSU used to sound way better than SU. They didn't have the power. Now they try to blow SU and they do not sound the same.In my opinion SU won. Sorry young blood. It ain't about being bias.

Wish JSU could beat them bass drums a lil harder. They had a dredlock guy a few years back that knew how to make the bass drums thump. Bring him back as a percussion staff
