Macca Will never be surpassed ! The Greatest Composer And Musician of of All time ! He Composes Produces Sings Plays and has Entertained Billions in his lifetime ! Nobody Close ! He Is A Saint Of Music ahead of all classical composers by miles and all other musicians too !!! A True Genius !!
Let's face it...if this was XTC it would have been released as a single and been a big success. This is as good as anything he did in the 1980's. I can't understand why it wasn't released.
One word: ... marvellous... Two words: ... wonderfull melody !! three words: ... Beautifull wandering song! I could go on, but it's clear .... love this song!
With the near arrival of McCartney III, I really do hope that Paul prepares to close his musical career with all of his previously unreleased projects such as this. Return To Pepperland deserves to be known and loved by millions of fans worldwide who haven’t heard of it yet! Imagine how amazing a 2020 remaster would be of this track?
This song is amazing!! The man is a master of melody! Noone today could write a melody as good as this!! Though the Donald Duck voice is a little weird!! lol Great song!!
It was an argument with Phil Ramone, the producer from Billy Joel who Paul liked and worked with on this album. The argument was after 10 songs were made, with Paul wanting electronic drums and Phil insisting on traditional drums. On this song, Phil won out and you got the traditional drumming. Phil was right (as he was back in the 1980s most of the time). Unfortunately, Paul, stuck in his ways would not agree and the album was never released even though it was complete. The 10 songs mostly have traditional drumming, and he did not like them even though in general, it was pretty strong album and you can find some of these songs online from this album whose title was this song. I think this individual posted them all.
What is really sad is this could have been a Beatles album. In 1988 they were trying to get a reunion going. We all know John didn't make to 88. Sad really. Imagine John doing backing vocals on this!
Excellent song by Macca, this could have been on a Beatles album (a follow-up to Sgt. Pepper or Yellow Submarine) had they not split up and continued into the 80's.
This song is so well written, great vocals, perfectly played & arranged...brings great vibes and is an uplifting masterpiece from a truly great musical talent...thanks much!
Paul McCartney’s one of unreleased the greatest song masterpieces “ Return To Pepperland “ ( 1986 - 1987 ) ! ...... Brilliant songwriting with the singing and harmony, this song had really cool rhythm and beat, and late the creation of a very lovely weird sound effect was fantastic ! ... Always favorite, thank you so much !! What a the greatest genius ! ... What a the miracle ! ♥🌎👍

Omg! I have been a life long Paul nut and I thought I'd heard and loved them all. Then this comes along and punches me hard in the face! It's superb, why didn't he release it? I think Paul was a bit rudderless in his career at this point. Although on top form, this could have been amalgamated with press to play to create a really strong album. His a bit later collaborations with Elvis costello produced some great songs on both sides and Paul got back into touring at this point.
Neil Innes and Paul should have collaborated a long time ago. Unfortunately, rumor has it that Paul didn't like The Rutles film (probably because Eric Idle made his Dirk/Paul character look so vapid) and he probably holds a grudge against Neil.
I think the production on some of these songs is dated, and I think re-recording some of the backing tracks would improve them. Some judicious editing and re-arrangement on some of the tracks might also be in order.
I think, Return To Pepperland is not (maybe) a brilliant album...but LP Press To Play is not brilliant too. I don´t know, why this album was unreleased...Paul, please...this project must be on CD now
Paul is writing for the future generations sometimes. Main stream pop music doesn't know what to do with it. They're sitting in a box. Nice, beautifully decorated, but a box.
This is the album that Paul should’ve released in 1987 in commemoration of the 20th anniversary Sergeant Pepper: Side 1 no 1 return the Pepperland no 2 Lindiana no 3 Yvonnes the one no 4 same love no 5 love mix no 6 only love remains. Side 2 no 1 press no 2 back on my feet no 3 pretty little head no 4 it’s not true single version no 5 tough on a tight rope no 6 once upon a long ago I’ve taken the best songs from press to play plus the unreleased songs from that era plus the A&B side of the single from November 1987 once upon a long ago and created what would’ve been a classic album. Some people might’ve replaced tough on a tight rope with stranglehold.
I really like this track list and I agree that Paul should have done this instead of Press to Play. Either way though I can’t see this album being received well by the public because it’s soft and poppy, but I would love it.
McCartney's extraordinary talent. With the track record he has, he has the right to do as he pleases and owes no explanation to anyone. I'm surprised he hadn't moved on by this point. Way back in the 60s, Lennon had got fed up with it and was messing around with avant garde and primitivism. McCartney had briefly done some film score stuff ("The Family Way" collaboration with George Martin) and he can't be unaware of the likes of Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldberg, John Barry, Morricone and the like or the "Birth of the cool" that exploded into jazz as the "other royalty" of counter-classical music but......he liked pop songs, rigid arrangements etc and so.......here we are. Hours in studios with machinery and overdubs? No thanks. I'm not McCartney, I'm merely a music listener and lover that was around at the time when McCartney began ploughing his furrow. I can listen to that with nostalgic pleasure but in general, I stopped listening to pop music before I stopped going to the cinema - the stories no longer out-did real life and there's no going back. That's life. Why was he still doing this stuff? I think McCartney works better with a boss that can stand up to him (Lennon, Martin..........) than being his own.
Macca's demos and out takes are better than many other people's full catalog.
so true
so so true.... and a funny comment... thanks
His 80s demos and b sides are so much better than his actual 80s output
yep I remember a demo he had done in the late 70's I think, called 'the cage'. Wow, he should have done something with that one

Absolutely criminal that McCartney/MPL hasn't released this album officially yet
Why hasn't this been released?
because life isn't fair
he was probably being cockblocked by his record label lol
My god, this song is catchy and I love it
VERY nostalgic, anyone hearing it in the 80s when the 60s were hated, would share a tear for sure
Not sure the 60s were hated, in the UK there were quite a few retro 60s style hits, even 60s reissues were big a handful of times
Honestly makes me cry.
Sounds pretty Neil Innes/Rutles to me.. LOVE IT.

Nice song sounds like klaatu
Except Klaatu was inspired by The Beatles. As I recall they were a bunch of studio musicians.
They do have that feel, don't they - they're a bona fide Canadian three-piece prog rock band though.
Almost as Klaatu/Stackridge/SPLHCB-ish as Pete Best's "Hayman's Green...
