@@adamb7744 that's too bad, if you can get the game installed by downloading the APK then you can look at what it's com address and make a shortcut for it like any of the ones I have done. These were free so figured everyone would have access!
Hey Bandit, I downloaded and installed the patched APK but I still can't play any MAME. I don't see MAME2010 available as a core to download. Ideas? edit: fixed it. I installed the APK while my play store version was installed. I uninstalled retroarch then installed the APK. All good!

Bandits No Clutter Collection is still alive and well, this change to retroarch will not kill the pack! :D Just want to update everyone that I have gotten a hold of the links for the full set of 2003 plus roms, and am working on a transition patch that will update this pack to include the new mandatory 2003 plus core for MAME. I will keep this thread updated with information about the status of this new project, look for a github page shortly with information about what to do and the new settings files.

@@MrMathLeB I have found an easy solution! simply do the install as normal, and instead of downloading retroarch from the play store, you download it from their website: buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.7.7/android/ This is the most up to date version before they updated to the next 1.7.8 buildbot! Everything is working just as I intended in that release build. Unfortunately this seems to break the Flycast core from retroarch. Will need to use redream instead. I will update when I have those launch codes.

UPDATE: I have not had the time to make a new video with my 1y/o always sleeping in the adjacent room. XD Its been a hassle to make time where I can do any of this stuff. The fix for the dreamcast is to use Redream instead. Download from the play store for free. Isnt that the 32bit version with a different name like 32 at the end? Dont you have e to edit more hyperspin files to point at this new ra? Also were you planning on still doing a mame2003 release?
And for the 2003 one, there are a lot of unsupported games. I was going through it and would need to be a separate list, but the benefit would he the ability to save games and rewind etc. Been busier than ever with a physio class on top of everything else, so I can't say if that's something I'm going to sink time into right now. But it has become more of a possibility now that I have the files.
@@BanditTech and this version wont auto update? That was my biggest irritation. Hell I don't like updating my shield.period, afraid the updates will break things. I'll go ahead and try it, but ra will have more features in the future. I hope you do eventually roll out a version 2 that works with the new 64bit ra.
@@ryecatcher25 the issue is not all cores support 64 bit, pcsx reloaded is a great example of this. Also the reason all the mame cores disappeared, I believe because they don't have 64 bit support. They did a post on their blog about the reason for the change, this is forced into them by Google in order to remain on the Google play store. I do not believe that this will Auto update from a manually installed apk, but for reference you can simply turn off Auto updates on your shield. And as far as the ra32 version, it's junk when you launch from hyperspin, I submit a support ticket and hopefully I get a response. Otherwise anything beyond 1.7.7 is unusable for this build.

expanded is 199 GB (214,654,549,627 bytes) I have a limited upload bandwidth and do not plan to make a torrent at this time. Once I have the ability to upload on IPtorrents it will go there, but you may not have access to that either.
I've been playing with this for a day or so now... its great!! thank you. hearing certain music in games is very nostalgic. I used to love playing the point and click games, things like broken sword, day of the tentacle.. stuff like that.. i'm attempting to add those today.....:-) thanks again for all your work!!

Hi man. You are a hero. I'm switching over from Raspi 3b+ to the Shield because I wanted more power for the newer consoles but didn't want to lose the amazing UI nor the roms collections I had for it. With this pack you've saved me from that. Thanks a lot for all your work!
Just an Update for anyone seeing this and wondering if this still works good. Yes. Make sure to use the patched retroarch 1.8.8 file from the pinned comment and use the dreamcast patch. Also to get Sega Saturn working properly use the emulator apk he provides with the download located in the "emulators" folder. I was able to get all systems working (Excluding the Atari Lynx) With just following this guide to the letter. Good luck to everyone finding this and thanks @Bandit Tech for this awesome build!
Everything is working beautifully on my 256GB thumb drive attached to the Shield. Running everything mostly through Hyperspin as I love the layout of it. Thanks a million for doing all this! Even trimmed down, I'll never have enough time to play everything on here!
@@@ryecatcher25 The Shield OS environment works the same as with an Android tablet or phone. You would need to install individual APK files from the Play store for android games. As Hyperspin is more it's own retro gaming program, everything needed is already included in the 200 GB upload. If you only wish to use the Shield for Android gaming, the download is unnecessary as the Shield is already has the hardware and software to play purchases from both the Play store and the Nvidia store as well. Hope that helps. :-)
@@ryecatcher25 Yes because the Hyperspin has no emulator for the PS2 on it. GTA SA has been offered via the Play store for years so that is the best way to get it. If you already purchased it you would simply need to tie your Play account Email or Gmail to the Shield and you can re-download it. If you've never purchased it now is as good a time as any.
@@TheJimmyztt as a side note were you able to get the dual joystick games working? Smash tv or robotron? I know I can get them working under retroarch with mame2003plus but dont know how to get hyperspin to just use those emulators when launching those games.
I appreciate the good work. Hopefully your channel will get the growth it deserves. I'd love a follow up on how to add more systems and games to this build as I am wary of messing it up as my knowledge of Hyperspin is quite limited.

Things are starting to wrap up in my other project and I'll find time for these again :) don't have as much free time with a 1 year old running around the house now :p

Hey just a quick question, so with the mame roms its seems to be using mame4droid and when I exit a game it brings me back to the home screen not hyperspin is there any fix/work around for this? cheers

The hypersin app is a little glitchy. So I'm loading in retroarch. Too bad, what z wonderful interface hyperspin has. But I was up and running in less than 48 hours. What a great collection. Well done.
If anyone is having issues with launching Dreamcast games, it's probably due to the bios files found in the roms\dc folder being in the external storage. You may have to move these to the retroarch system folder on the local 0 storage. (External storage cannot be modified by apps on an Nvidia shield, and the bios may need launching and setting the date/time first apparently) However I have yet to test this, and find out if it conflicts with the setting you suggest changing in retroarch, and if it impacts the other emulators. I will come back and post an update to let you know. Can I just say thanks for this release, it has helped me out no end, and I really appreciate the time you've spent, and the visuals are great. Kudos!
Yes, if you wish to do the bios the other way you need to place the bios files into the retroarch/bios folder. The issue you mention was from prior versions of Android and is no longer the case on shield.
@@BanditTech I have the latest shield running on the latest Android OS, and I'm unable to boot the Dreamcast bios from external hard drives or amend any files held on a folder outside the shield folder in the root of the usb drive. Pretty sure the issue is applicable to everyone on the latest version of Shield, as it also stops you modifying usb files over a network. I'll test it tonight and let you know how I get on.
@@ChrisBakerIsAwesome thanks for checking on that. I am running from the internal drive. Let me know what steps you have to take to get it working and I can always do a more thorough follow up for those situations.
@@BanditTech Hi Bandit, I've copied the dreamcast oms\dc folder and overwritten the empty retroarch\system\dc folder in 0 storage. I then turned off the advanced save setting you suggested in retroarch. Now the games boot past the "create save file screens" but it complains there is no free save slot space. The games then mostly get to the start screen, but start button does not work, or.. the game just crashes back to hyperspin depending on the game. Not sure what to try next, perhaps use the reicast emulator instead of retroarch? Any suggestions are welcome, perhaps if you temp rename your local hyperspin folder in 0 and test running your setup on a USB storage? Maybe the save file folder also needs to be on 0 storage but I'm unaware where the DC saves are stored? I'm out of ideas lol EDIT : the PS1 games launch still without the need to copy the bios over after changing retroarch bios setting so everything else so far appears to work
@@ChrisBakerIsAwesome maybe you need to delete everything else other than the bios files and let it make fresh memory cards. I'm on vacation, so will be a few days before I can do anything else.
Great, Smooth and works like a charm. After instal and a little callibrate the diffrent emulators, first time run, rom paths etc and installing the cores in retroarch... changed flycast in reicast works fantastic after loading tje reicast core in retroarch and putting your dreamcast.ini in the android settings map. The Reicast core is no longer available as it’s been replaced by Flycast. Would you be able to update the settings file so I can keep using this wonderful build?
Hey everyone. The new retroarch update doesnt support the mame2010 core which breaks this build. I guess the only options are to sideload the old 32bit version which is NOT available from the google play store. Or get a whole new rom set to match your arcade emulator. Fbneo works good but is not compatible with a lot of the roms in this build. Other than that the rest of the console emulators work ok except of course you need to change to flycast or redream for dreamcast.
Yeah this is an obnoxious change by the retroarch team. I will need to do the conversion to the 2003 plus core and it's romset, I think the easiest fix for the current situation is to use mame4droid since it's using the 2010 core. M4d loses the ability to play multiplayer though, that's mainly why I switched to retroarch
@@BanditTech yeah it sucks, but honestly you should look at this build as version 1.0. Now you can fix the little issues and maybe expand here and there. (Persoally love playing the naomi and atomiswave games which run great on the shield and would fit in great in the arcade sections, kof xi, fumble fish 2 and dolphin blue are awesome on the shield) I guess they lost a lot of mame builds 2010, 2014 and a few others. But 2003 and 2003plus I guess are easiest enough to port so they will be around for a long time. For ease of use it would be great to have an all in one download like before. Or you could just do a rebuild that doesnt include the console roms and just tell people to copy and paste the roms from the old build to the new. That way arcade with any additions and fixes would be good to go.
Really impressed with the work that has gone into this image. Thanks a lot for this. Only problem I can't seem to solve now is the Dreamcast system. It seems to have been setup to use a core in retroarch but this is not available anymore. I've installed reicast but unsure how to get hyperspin to use reicast instead or retroarch. Also the version of reicast with this system errors once installed but fresh version from play store is ok. Is there anyway to point hyperspin to reicast app rather than retroarch. I have updated the system.ini file as well. Thanks a lot

Hey Bandit Tech, this is the best Nvidia Hyperspin build I have seen freely available and it's very thoughtful of you to spend time for other people to enjoy it! 👍 I have had this working on my old shield which unfortunately gave up the ghost but I have recently had a new one which uses a 128gb usb flash drive as adopted internal storage where Hyperspin is installed and I have 2 X 2tb External HDD connected all through a usb splitter. I have extracted your Hyperspin pack to the root of one of my HDD bit whenever I start Hyperspin it loads the Hyperspin loading video but then crashes back to the Shield home screen? Could it be the most recent downloads of Hyperspin or Retroarch from the Google Play store that is causing the issue? If so which versions would you recommend downloading? Any help much appreciated. So I just tried this on the new 9.1.1 build with modified hyperspin APK. Got it loading some games. Looks promising, hopefully someone in this community has some fixes to revive this gem.

This is AMAZING! I quickly subscribed. I downloaded the nzb file and got all 188 raw files. Extracted to root of shield. Did everything in the video and downloaded Hyperspin, but when trying to launch, it immediately crashes.
just got it working. for me it was if you look at hyperspin folder tree on your hard-drive the it should just be - internal-hyperspin-(all folders associated). What i initially had was Internal-hyperspin-hyperspin-(all folders) so i just moved all the settings folders into the first hyperspin folder leaving a blank hyperspin folder. then it worked. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for putting this all together! Everything launches but I have an issue where the backdrop MP4s are not playing in Hpyerspin. The right hand menu graphics are there but no backdrop images\videos play. I followed your video but i'm not sure why the mp4s are not playing and everything else seems to work, the content is on a USB drive. Any ideas? Thanks again
Are the few Android games actually playable? I tried every single one of them and they all gave an error saying they don't exist (forgot the actual wording). Other than that, FANTASTIC WORK!! I appreciate it so much man, brings back childhood memories.
The Android section is more of a proof of concept and you can freely edit the com command so that it points to the correct source. You do need to install all of the programs which are listed in that section in order for them to work. So it's not configured out the box you need to install the programs but it gives you the way to do it. And all the games listed are free except for Grand theft Auto and that's also available as an APK if you look for it online
Great work - super easy to set up. One problem I noticed that some Sega driving games - like Outrun - were super slow. I presume that's a MAME 2010 limitation?
Yes, unfortunately there is no single mame core that works best for every game. 2010 was the best one in general though. You may want to mess around in retroarch and load up problematic roms with the different cores available. YMMV

Hey everybody, got everything working Saturn, Dreamcast and PSP...any tips? Saturn says 'Cannot initialize InternalBackup', Dreamcast quits me out to the Shield menu and PSP just loads into a black screen. Thanks for any replies.
I've been playing around with the patched APK today trying to get the MAME 2010 core as the emulator, and ran into an issue. Some of the roms that were running fine when the settings were using MAME4Droid as the emulator (Donkey Kong and Mario Bros were the first ones I tried) freeze on MAME 2010 core, usually within a second or 2 of launching. Is there any type of state setting that would need to be reverted (other than the ini files) if the roms were opened with mame4droid?
I rolled back just for this. Took me like 3 days to download and put everything on my HDD. Will try it out today ♥️ Edit: everything except Sega Dreamcast doesnt work. I put the dreamcast.ini in the suggested folder but nothing happens. Any idea? Edit #2: i'm so stupid. I had the file in Settings, not Settings_Android, now it works 👍 Thanks Bandit, great work!

My guess is you need to update your controllers firmware. Xbox ones controllers? And yes you can easily put bezels, simply go to the bezel project for instructions on that. There is an Android version that is out there
would be to redo the video of the configuration of retroarch because the mame 2010 is not even there and the whole menu has changed in version 1.8.3 so a little different everything
Use the retroarch that comes with the whole hyperspin download, found in the emulators folder. As opposed to (like I did initially) use the Play Store’s Retroarch. Or, in short, follow the actual instructions I guess.
Thank you for your incredible effort and time Bandit! I am slowly learning more and more about the finer ponts of customising HS. However how do you add Final Burn to this image please? Do I have to use Rocket Launcher or do I have to rename the MAME folder? I have looked in the comments and no one has mentioned much on FB Alpha setup. Thank you for any help.
To make a list for final burn, you go to the hyperspin website and download their XML list. then make sure that your files are matching the names just like any of the other lists. all files must match exactly with the name on the XML list. Build your media by putting them into the screenshots, videos, wheel folders for final burn, then put the ROM files into the rom folder and put the settings into the Android settings folder. You can duplicate the settings for mame and use that to launch final burn. Just edit the core

With Shield's mount network share option, it enabled me to use the files over my NAS, it works really well. Now I'm just trying different button mappings so I can play on every emulator seamless.... If you could point some insights on mapping (both Shield and Xbox controllers) I would appreciate.
In the nfo file I described some button mappings that I am using for retroarch. Other than that I just use the standard control scheme on the standalone. The only one with some special keybinds is the n64 emu, and that is only for specific games like Duke nukem. For those I just swapped the c buttons with the dpad.

I have been attempting to set the rompath in Hyperspin, but I'm a bit confused as to where this should go? Did you update the settings in the "SETTING" or the "SETTING_ANDROID" folder? Also - did you update the individual system INI's? Or were you able to edit the ANDROID.INI with the rom path? My NAS is named DISKSTATION, and I created a shared folder called 'emu', and Hyperspin directory lives there. I'm attempted to update the ANDROID.ini to rompath=/storage/DISKSTATION/emu/Hyperspin/Roms I've also attempted to update the SNES INI to /storage/DISKSTATION/emu/Hyperspin/Roms/Super Nintendo Entertainment System No dice. I'm using a QNAP NAS, but the concept I think it's the same First I made a Hyperspin folder, with capital "H" There it lies all the folders extracted from Bandit's files. I gave access to everyone, including guests Now on my Shield: Open settings. Select storage and reset. Next, select network Storage. In available network storage, select your drive. Click on connect as a guest (or registered user ... you will need to give credentials). Now you will see all shared folders from your NAS that the shield have permissions to read. You will be seeing your Hyperspin folder there. Now when I install the emulators just like Bandit instructed, Hyperspin will access the shared folder (I didn't had a Hyperspin folder on my Shield) It all works... Bandit's configured all emulators to be executed within Android's apk call ( ex.: com.retroarch/com.retroarch.browser.retroactivity.RetroActivityFuture) so you don't have to change anything on the config side. One thing that I did... I made a symlink within NAS/Hyperspin/hyperspin that points to my Hyperspin share path , as a measure to mitigate anything, I don't know if it's needed.
@@macvirii yeah from what I understand the thing you need to do is mount the shared drive into the shield as if it was an external drive, and Hyperion will pick it up from there.
Also, It might be a little slow if you change the systems/roms too fast, because everything is on the share and not local, but for me it's a really great way to keep even larger sets without worrying about disk space on the Shield.
ok there is it made everything go, the only problem I have left is the Dreamcast in practice even if I install retroarck from your folder I can't find the Core Dreamcast - Reicast and I don't understand why it's not in for whose games I don't upload
No plans for that, just don't have the time anymore. There is a huge collection that has packs compatible with this one. Look up Ron's all in one from the retromaniacUS
The work is definitely appreciated. But it seems to me that the correlation between Hyperspin and Retroarch is missing an explanation in the video. I saw where you extratcted Hyperspin to the root folder. And then that was the last I heard it mentioned in the video. From that point on it was mainly setting up retoarch. I'm assuming this is because Hyperspin is a frontend? Is it so straight forward that once I install and configure retroarch, then all I need to do is open Hyperspin and "point" it to retroarch and everything works? Or do I need to seek out a seperate Hyperspin install and configure video? One other thing that kinda confused me was that after Hyperspin was extracted to the root and then you went to the emulators folder, the Hyperspin apk file was also in that folder. Was it just there for backup or was it needed for some other reason? *Edit* I had a brainfart in regards to the apk. I understand why it's there now. LOL.
So given that you can load this build onto internal storage or external storage, I’m missing the part where you tell hyperspin where to find the emulators and media files, and where you tell the emulators where to find the rom files.
It just looks for the HyperSpin folder. Just place in the root of whatever storage. The file lists are inside the XML files, each system has a list of games. The name in there will correspond with the file names everywhere else

Hi, i finally got round to installing this to my Nvidia Shield this morning following your excellent instructions and awesome pack (great stuff buddy). One problem I have or perhaps don't understand is how I map the buttons on the game controller that shipped with the Shield. Can you offer some advise here or suggest an alternative Bluetooth controller (Xbox or PS) that you feel would be easier to integrate ?
The shield controller I haven't had the best luck with yet I've actually had to replace mine already and the second one is already drifting again. Probably because if my kid abusing the thing, idk. If you do intend to use it, all the emulators super remapping the keys. The favorite replacement controller ended up being neither my Xbox-oneS controller I bought just for the shield or PS4 controller I bought for the PC but instead a couple ns30 pro by 8bitdo. They are light, low Ms, and charge fast. Good shape for my big hands, only downside is the Nintendo style layout of the button YXBA. Have had them for years and they just keep working perfectly after plenty of drop checks.

Hi @BanditTech, can you advise how I run a game, say from MAME and force it to use a specific Retroarch core please? Is this even possible using HS? I can get it to work in LaunchBox but HS offers a much more aesthetically pleasing experience. Situation is I know this particular game will work with a specific Retroarch core as I have tested by launching directly from RA, however when I try to launch in HS the it wont work with the default RA core being used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok so i got the game hyperspin set up on my shield. But whenever i pick a system then click a game it goes to a black screen. Plz someone help me fix this
Use the retroarch that comes with the whole hyperspin download, found in the emulators folder. As opposed to (like I did initially) use the Play Store’s Retroarch. Or, in short, follow the actual instructions I guess.
Impressive work here. I have extracted the whole thing into a brand new 256gb MicroSD and inserted it in my Shield TV (2019, the tube one). Unfortunately, I can't install the Dolphin APK, even though I have allowed it. But that's not so important. What matters to me now is that I can't properly navigate in Retroarch to install the cores using the shield TV remote. I have connected my Switch Pro Controller (which works perfectly using nVidia Gamestream), but I have the same problem: I can navigate and go back, but I can't really confirm anything. So, I can't change any setting in Retroarch. Any idea? Thanks in advance
My only problem with this great build is the fact that Reicast changed their name to Flycast and now Dreamcast games won’t run. I’m not sure what ini’s to edit.
Yeah I have been working on another project, but I do know about the issue you talked about. The modification you would need to make is in the settings Android ini files. It points to the retroarch core and you change the value to the new core name. You can get that name by re-downloading the core and it will pop up I'm looking to get around to a patch soon, just have other priorities right now ahead of this project.
Ok so I subscribed and I got the download and just added a hard drive to my shield. Also, in the description I grabbed the custom retroarch and the fix for dreamcast. Now I'm just following the video step by step and downloading the cores. However, reicast is not listed in the retroarch cores. It has fly cast but not reicast. Not sure what to do.

I have downloaded the package 3 times, but all the files are damaged and the PAR2 is also partially damaged and is not able to complete the recovery to unpack. Is it possible to repost? After a few hours working on downloading, extracting and installing, the hyperspin app just says it was built for an older version and closes itself. I'm on a 2019 nvidia shield pro. Help?! 😔
Hello king Bandit, you’re the king. I installed the patch and retroArch new emulator. Any idea why getting into games inside “golden era” category leads to the last game i played instead of the specific game i choose?
For the this exact collection, would you recommend an external HHD mounted as internal storage? Or an external SSD mounted as internal storage? What do you use?
I actually have this internally on my shield, but any location should not really matter much. You are getting marginal improvements to load time between your different scenarios
I´m very frustrated. My Nvidia Shield (Android 9) refuses to work. Starting by the imposibility of having it sharing folders or content via wifi or ethernet. Windows says "I don´t have permissions". But I copy the content to the hard drive and plug it, and follow everything step by step, and... Hyperspin shows a warning about updating, and no matter if I update, or use the hyperspin app included in the download... it always shows a grey screen for a while and then closes. I´m pulling my hair for being two days now trying with no luck. Would anyone be so kind to help me?
How do you do map the controller keys for MAME 2010? When I press on the right joy button, the MAME menu comes up but as soon as I select Intput(general) or Input(this Game) it will quit Retroarch?
Just found this Hyperspin Collection last week. I've downloaded it and installed it. Love the set up and all the work that has gone into it. Just have a couple of questions. I've managed to add a few more games. Just need to know which romset has been used for MAME and if they should be joined, or split? Also can't get the Dreamcast emulator working. The games start but get to the intro screen where it says " VMU in B! is in use. Press A to create a new file." The controller doesn't repond at this point. Can't determine if there is a problem with the controller configuration or the VMU files. I've installed the patch. Any help would be appreciated.

A user named DrMore has given a very easy way to fix Retroarch so that we can continue to use mame 2010 as the original build was intended. I will go ahead and put a link to a modified version of the Android Retroarch 1.8.8 apk which has been fixed to work with the build. (june/18/2020) If those of you seeing this much later, and want to update your own copy of retroarch you download, then I am also providing links to the resources you will need.

Hey Bandit, I downloaded and installed the patched APK but I still can't play any MAME. I don't see MAME2010 available as a core to download. Ideas?
edit: fixed it. I installed the APK while my play store version was installed. I uninstalled retroarch then installed the APK. All good!

Just want to update everyone that I have gotten a hold of the links for the full set of 2003 plus roms, and am working on a transition patch that will update this pack to include the new mandatory 2003 plus core for MAME. I will keep this thread updated with information about the status of this new project, look for a github page shortly with information about what to do and the new settings files.

Unfortunately this seems to break the Flycast core from retroarch. Will need to use redream instead. I will update when I have those launch codes.

for anyone who updated their retroarch to the 1.7.8 version and is having issues, I have found an easy solution! Uninstall retroarch and reinstall from the version on the website:

This is the most up to date version before they updated to the next 1.7.8 buildbot!
The fix for the dreamcast is to use Redream instead. Download from the play store for free.
Go inside the Root:\\Hyperspin\Settings_Android\Sega Dreamcast.ini file and change it to match on these two lines:

Everything else is working just as I intended using the 1.7.7 retroarch.

@@ryecatcher25 nope, it's the last version they compiled 32 bit as main version
And for the 2003 one, there are a lot of unsupported games. I was going through it and would need to be a separate list, but the benefit would he the ability to save games and rewind etc.
Been busier than ever with a physio class on top of everything else, so I can't say if that's something I'm going to sink time into right now. But it has become more of a possibility now that I have the files.
@@BanditTech and this version wont auto update? That was my biggest irritation. Hell I don't like updating my shield.period, afraid the updates will break things.
I'll go ahead and try it, but ra will have more features in the future. I hope you do eventually roll out a version 2 that works with the new 64bit ra.
@@ryecatcher25 the issue is not all cores support 64 bit, pcsx reloaded is a great example of this. Also the reason all the mame cores disappeared, I believe because they don't have 64 bit support. They did a post on their blog about the reason for the change, this is forced into them by Google in order to remain on the Google play store.
I do not believe that this will Auto update from a manually installed apk, but for reference you can simply turn off Auto updates on your shield.
And as far as the ra32 version, it's junk when you launch from hyperspin, I submit a support ticket and hopefully I get a response. Otherwise anything beyond 1.7.7 is unusable for this build.

Just an Update for anyone seeing this and wondering if this still works good. Yes. Make sure to use the patched retroarch 1.8.8 file from the pinned comment and use the dreamcast patch. Also to get Sega Saturn working properly use the emulator apk he provides with the download located in the "emulators" folder. I was able to get all systems working (Excluding the Atari Lynx) With just following this guide to the letter. Good luck to everyone finding this and thanks @Bandit Tech for this awesome build!

Quick question if you dont mind. How do you play the android games? Do you have to install the Apk for each game separately?
@@@ryecatcher25 The Shield OS environment works the same as with an Android tablet or phone. You would need to install individual APK files from the Play store for android games. As Hyperspin is more it's own retro gaming program, everything needed is already included in the 200 GB upload. If you only wish to use the Shield for Android gaming, the download is unnecessary as the Shield is already has the hardware and software to play purchases from both the Play store and the Nvidia store as well. Hope that helps. :-)

@@ryecatcher25 Yes because the Hyperspin has no emulator for the PS2 on it. GTA SA has been offered via the Play store for years so that is the best way to get it.
If you already purchased it you would simply need to tie your Play account Email or Gmail to the Shield and you can re-download it. If you've never purchased it now is as good a time as any.
@@TheJimmyztt as a side note were you able to get the dual joystick games working? Smash tv or robotron? I know I can get them working under retroarch with mame2003plus but dont know how to get hyperspin to just use those emulators when launching those games.

It seems Hyperspin no longer supports the most current android. An update would be really appreciated.
I ended up rolling back my version of Android since it broke several apps, not just Hyperspin.

The hypersin app is a little glitchy. So I'm loading in retroarch. Too bad, what z wonderful interface hyperspin has. But I was up and running in less than 48 hours. What a great collection. Well done.

If anyone is having issues with launching Dreamcast games, it's probably due to the bios files found in the roms\dc folder being in the external storage.
You may have to move these to the retroarch system folder on the local 0 storage. (External storage cannot be modified by apps on an Nvidia shield, and the bios may need launching and setting the date/time first apparently)
However I have yet to test this, and find out if it conflicts with the setting you suggest changing in retroarch, and if it impacts the other emulators.
I will come back and post an update to let you know.

Yes, if you wish to do the bios the other way you need to place the bios files into the retroarch/bios folder.
The issue you mention was from prior versions of Android and is no longer the case on shield.
@@BanditTech I have the latest shield running on the latest Android OS, and I'm unable to boot the Dreamcast bios from external hard drives or amend any files held on a folder outside the shield folder in the root of the usb drive.
Pretty sure the issue is applicable to everyone on the latest version of Shield, as it also stops you modifying usb files over a network.
I'll test it tonight and let you know how I get on.
@@ChrisBakerIsAwesome thanks for checking on that. I am running from the internal drive. Let me know what steps you have to take to get it working and I can always do a more thorough follow up for those situations.
@@BanditTech Hi Bandit, I've copied the dreamcast
oms\dc folder and overwritten the empty retroarch\system\dc folder in 0 storage.
I then turned off the advanced save setting you suggested in retroarch.
Now the games boot past the "create save file screens" but it complains there is no free save slot space.
The games then mostly get to the start screen, but start button does not work, or.. the game just crashes back to hyperspin depending on the game.
Not sure what to try next, perhaps use the reicast emulator instead of retroarch?
Any suggestions are welcome, perhaps if you temp rename your local hyperspin folder in 0 and test running your setup on a USB storage?
Maybe the save file folder also needs to be on 0 storage but I'm unaware where the DC saves are stored?
I'm out of ideas lol
EDIT : the PS1 games launch still without the need to copy the bios over after changing retroarch bios setting so everything else so far appears to work
@@ChrisBakerIsAwesome maybe you need to delete everything else other than the bios files and let it make fresh memory cards. I'm on vacation, so will be a few days before I can do anything else.
Great, Smooth and works like a charm.
After instal and a little callibrate the diffrent emulators, first time run, rom paths etc and installing the cores in retroarch... changed flycast in reicast works fantastic after loading tje reicast core in retroarch and putting your dreamcast.ini in the android settings map.

The Reicast core is no longer available as it’s been replaced by Flycast. Would you be able to update the settings file so I can keep using this wonderful build?
Hey everyone. The new retroarch update doesnt support the mame2010 core which breaks this build.
I guess the only options are to sideload the old 32bit version which is NOT available from the google play store. Or get a whole new rom set to match your arcade emulator. Fbneo works good but is not compatible with a lot of the roms in this build.
Other than that the rest of the console emulators work ok except of course you need to change to flycast or redream for dreamcast.
Yeah this is an obnoxious change by the retroarch team. I will need to do the conversion to the 2003 plus core and it's romset, I think the easiest fix for the current situation is to use mame4droid since it's using the 2010 core. M4d loses the ability to play multiplayer though, that's mainly why I switched to retroarch
@@BanditTech yeah it sucks, but honestly you should look at this build as version 1.0. Now you can fix the little issues and maybe expand here and there. (Persoally love playing the naomi and atomiswave games which run great on the shield and would fit in great in the arcade sections, kof xi, fumble fish 2 and dolphin blue are awesome on the shield)
I guess they lost a lot of mame builds 2010, 2014 and a few others. But 2003 and 2003plus I guess are easiest enough to port so they will be around for a long time.
For ease of use it would be great to have an all in one download like before. Or you could just do a rebuild that doesnt include the console roms and just tell people to copy and paste the roms from the old build to the new.
That way arcade with any additions and fixes would be good to go.

Only problem I can't seem to solve now is the Dreamcast system. It seems to have been setup to use a core in retroarch but this is not available anymore.
I've installed reicast but unsure how to get hyperspin to use reicast instead or retroarch. Also the version of reicast with this system errors once installed but fresh version from play store is ok.
Is there anyway to point hyperspin to reicast app rather than retroarch. I have updated the system.ini file as well.

Hey Bandit Tech, this is the best Nvidia Hyperspin build I have seen freely available and it's very thoughtful of you to spend time for other people to enjoy it! 👍 I have had this working on my old shield which unfortunately gave up the ghost but I have recently had a new one which uses a 128gb usb flash drive as adopted internal storage where Hyperspin is installed and I have 2 X 2tb External HDD connected all through a usb splitter. I have extracted your Hyperspin pack to the root of one of my HDD bit whenever I start Hyperspin it loads the Hyperspin loading video but then crashes back to the Shield home screen? Could it be the most recent downloads of Hyperspin or Retroarch from the Google Play store that is causing the issue? If so which versions would you recommend downloading? Any help much appreciated. So I just tried this on the new 9.1.1 build with modified hyperspin APK. Got it loading some games. Looks promising, hopefully someone in this community has some fixes to revive this gem.

This is AMAZING! I quickly subscribed. I downloaded the nzb file and got all 188 raw files. Extracted to root of shield. Did everything in the video and downloaded Hyperspin, but when trying to launch, it immediately crashes.

just got it working. for me it was if you look at hyperspin folder tree on your hard-drive the it should just be - internal-hyperspin-(all folders associated). What i initially had was Internal-hyperspin-hyperspin-(all folders) so i just moved all the settings folders into the first hyperspin folder leaving a blank hyperspin folder. then it worked.
Hope that makes sense.
if i dont have room for all 200gb is there a way I can add a few select emulators and games instead of the whole lot?
Thank you for putting this all together! Everything launches but I have an issue where the backdrop MP4s are not playing in Hpyerspin. The right hand menu graphics are there but no backdrop images\videos play. I followed your video but i'm not sure why the mp4s are not playing and everything else seems to work, the content is on a USB drive. Any ideas? Thanks again
Are the few Android games actually playable? I tried every single one of them and they all gave an error saying they don't exist (forgot the actual wording). Other than that, FANTASTIC WORK!! I appreciate it so much man, brings back childhood memories.
The Android section is more of a proof of concept and you can freely edit the com command so that it points to the correct source. You do need to install all of the programs which are listed in that section in order for them to work. So it's not configured out the box you need to install the programs but it gives you the way to do it.
And all the games listed are free except for Grand theft Auto and that's also available as an APK if you look for it online
Great work - super easy to set up. One problem I noticed that some Sega driving games - like Outrun - were super slow. I presume that's a MAME 2010 limitation?
Yes, unfortunately there is no single mame core that works best for every game. 2010 was the best one in general though. You may want to mess around in retroarch and load up problematic roms with the different cores available. YMMV
After trying everything only atari lynx does't work.. it throws me back to the home sreen of nvidia shield.. some how i missing someting?

Hey everybody, got everything working Saturn, Dreamcast and PSP...any tips? Saturn says 'Cannot initialize InternalBackup', Dreamcast quits me out to the Shield menu and PSP just loads into a black screen.

I've been playing around with the patched APK today trying to get the MAME 2010 core as the emulator, and ran into an issue. Some of the roms that were running fine when the settings were using MAME4Droid as the emulator (Donkey Kong and Mario Bros were the first ones I tried) freeze on MAME 2010 core, usually within a second or 2 of launching. Is there any type of state setting that would need to be reverted (other than the ini files) if the roms were opened with mame4droid?
Hyperspin no longer works with recent Android 11 so beware, if you buy a shield just for this purpose make sure is not updated yo the latest.

My guess is you need to update your controllers firmware. Xbox ones controllers?
And yes you can easily put bezels, simply go to the bezel project for instructions on that. There is an Android version that is out there

would be to redo the video of the configuration of retroarch because the mame 2010 is not even there and the whole menu has changed in version 1.8.3 so a little different everything

Thank you for your incredible effort and time Bandit! I am slowly learning more and more about the finer ponts of customising HS. However how do you add Final Burn to this image please? Do I have to use Rocket Launcher or do I have to rename the MAME folder? I have looked in the comments and no one has mentioned much on FB Alpha setup. Thank you for any help.
To make a list for final burn, you go to the hyperspin website and download their XML list. then make sure that your files are matching the names just like any of the other lists. all files must match exactly with the name on the XML list. Build your media by putting them into the screenshots, videos, wheel folders for final burn, then put the ROM files into the rom folder and put the settings into the Android settings folder. You can duplicate the settings for mame and use that to launch final burn. Just edit the core

With Shield's mount network share option, it enabled me to use the files over my NAS, it works really well.
Now I'm just trying different button mappings so I can play on every emulator seamless.... If you could point some insights on mapping (both Shield and Xbox controllers) I would appreciate.
In the nfo file I described some button mappings that I am using for retroarch. Other than that I just use the standard control scheme on the standalone. The only one with some special keybinds is the n64 emu, and that is only for specific games like Duke nukem. For those I just swapped the c buttons with the dpad.

Did you update the settings in the "SETTING" or the "SETTING_ANDROID" folder?
Also - did you update the individual system INI's? Or were you able to edit the ANDROID.INI with the rom path?
My NAS is named DISKSTATION, and I created a shared folder called 'emu', and Hyperspin directory lives there.
I'm attempted to update the ANDROID.ini to rompath=/storage/DISKSTATION/emu/Hyperspin/Roms
I've also attempted to update the SNES INI to /storage/DISKSTATION/emu/Hyperspin/Roms/Super Nintendo Entertainment System

I'm using a QNAP NAS, but the concept I think it's the same
First I made a Hyperspin folder, with capital "H"
There it lies all the folders extracted from Bandit's files.
I gave access to everyone, including guests
Now on my Shield:
Open settings.
Select storage and reset.
Next, select network Storage.
In available network storage, select your drive.
Click on connect as a guest (or registered user ... you will need to give credentials).
Now you will see all shared folders from your NAS that the shield have permissions to read.
You will be seeing your Hyperspin folder there.
Now when I install the emulators just like Bandit instructed, Hyperspin will access the shared folder (I didn't had a Hyperspin folder on my Shield)
It all works...
Bandit's configured all emulators to be executed within Android's apk call ( ex.: com.retroarch/com.retroarch.browser.retroactivity.RetroActivityFuture) so you don't have to change anything on the config side.
One thing that I did... I made a symlink within NAS/Hyperspin/hyperspin that points to my Hyperspin share path , as a measure to mitigate anything, I don't know if it's needed.
@@macvirii yeah from what I understand the thing you need to do is mount the shared drive into the shield as if it was an external drive, and Hyperion will pick it up from there.
Also, It might be a little slow if you change the systems/roms too fast, because everything is on the share and not local, but for me it's a really great way to keep even larger sets without worrying about disk space on the Shield.

The work is definitely appreciated. But it seems to me that the correlation between Hyperspin and Retroarch is missing an explanation in the video. I saw where you extratcted Hyperspin to the root folder. And then that was the last I heard it mentioned in the video. From that point on it was mainly setting up retoarch. I'm assuming this is because Hyperspin is a frontend? Is it so straight forward that once I install and configure retroarch, then all I need to do is open Hyperspin and "point" it to retroarch and everything works? Or do I need to seek out a seperate Hyperspin install and configure video?
One other thing that kinda confused me was that after Hyperspin was extracted to the root and then you went to the emulators folder, the Hyperspin apk file was also in that folder. Was it just there for backup or was it needed for some other reason?

So given that you can load this build onto internal storage or external storage, I’m missing the part where you tell hyperspin where to find the emulators and media files, and where you tell the emulators where to find the rom files.
It just looks for the HyperSpin folder. Just place in the root of whatever storage.
The file lists are inside the XML files, each system has a list of games. The name in there will correspond with the file names everywhere else

I think the snes roms got left out. Had to create a super nintendo folder and add roms. still trying to get saturn to work. Does this work with the bezel project? Thanks for this compilation, nice little project for the shield..

Hi, i finally got round to installing this to my Nvidia Shield this morning following your excellent instructions and awesome pack (great stuff buddy). One problem I have or perhaps don't understand is how I map the buttons on the game controller that shipped with the Shield. Can you offer some advise here or suggest an alternative Bluetooth controller (Xbox or PS) that you feel would be easier to integrate ?
The shield controller I haven't had the best luck with yet I've actually had to replace mine already and the second one is already drifting again. Probably because if my kid abusing the thing, idk.
If you do intend to use it, all the emulators super remapping the keys.
The favorite replacement controller ended up being neither my Xbox-oneS controller I bought just for the shield or PS4 controller I bought for the PC but instead a couple ns30 pro by 8bitdo.
They are light, low Ms, and charge fast. Good shape for my big hands, only downside is the Nintendo style layout of the button YXBA.
Have had them for years and they just keep working perfectly after plenty of drop checks.

Hi @BanditTech, can you advise how I run a game, say from MAME and force it to use a specific Retroarch core please? Is this even possible using HS? I can get it to work in LaunchBox but HS offers a much more aesthetically pleasing experience. Situation is I know this particular game will work with a specific Retroarch core as I have tested by launching directly from RA, however when I try to launch in HS the it wont work with the default RA core being used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can't get mame/arcade games to work also for some reason mame2010 isn't an option to update in the cores on retroarch so may well be the reason why

Impressive work here. I have extracted the whole thing into a brand new 256gb MicroSD and inserted it in my Shield TV (2019, the tube one). Unfortunately, I can't install the Dolphin APK, even though I have allowed it. But that's not so important. What matters to me now is that I can't properly navigate in Retroarch to install the cores using the shield TV remote. I have connected my Switch Pro Controller (which works perfectly using nVidia Gamestream), but I have the same problem: I can navigate and go back, but I can't really confirm anything. So, I can't change any setting in Retroarch. Any idea? Thanks in advance
My only problem with this great build is the fact that Reicast changed their name to Flycast and now Dreamcast games won’t run. I’m not sure what ini’s to edit.
Yeah I have been working on another project, but I do know about the issue you talked about. The modification you would need to make is in the settings Android ini files. It points to the retroarch core and you change the value to the new core name. You can get that name by re-downloading the core and it will pop up

Ok so I subscribed and I got the download and just added a hard drive to my shield. Also, in the description I grabbed the custom retroarch and the fix for dreamcast. Now I'm just following the video step by step and downloading the cores. However, reicast is not listed in the retroarch cores. It has fly cast but not reicast. Not sure what to do.

For the this exact collection, would you recommend an external HHD mounted as internal storage? Or an external SSD mounted as internal storage? What do you use?
I actually have this internally on my shield, but any location should not really matter much. You are getting marginal improvements to load time between your different scenarios
I´m very frustrated. My Nvidia Shield (Android 9) refuses to work. Starting by the imposibility of having it sharing folders or content via wifi or ethernet. Windows says "I don´t have permissions". But I copy the content to the hard drive and plug it, and follow everything step by step, and... Hyperspin shows a warning about updating, and no matter if I update, or use the hyperspin app included in the download... it always shows a grey screen for a while and then closes. I´m pulling my hair for being two days now trying with no luck. Would anyone be so kind to help me?
How do you do map the controller keys for MAME 2010? When I press on the right joy button, the MAME menu comes up but as soon as I select Intput(general) or Input(this Game) it will quit Retroarch?

Just found this Hyperspin Collection last week. I've downloaded it and installed it. Love the set up and all the work that has gone into it. Just have a couple of questions. I've managed to add a few more games. Just need to know which romset has been used for MAME and if they should be joined, or split? Also can't get the Dreamcast emulator working. The games start but get to the intro screen where it says " VMU in B! is in use. Press A to create a new file." The controller doesn't repond at this point. Can't determine if there is a problem with the controller configuration or the VMU files. I've installed the patch. Any help would be appreciated.
