April, this is a very creative method for storing a seldom-used item. I found a bit of humor in the fact that you need a ladder to get to your ladder. Keep the projects, and videos coming. Well done!
Followed your video and used your website materials list. Two ladder ceiling hangers for my biggest ladders done today (60-something lady with no assistance.) You made it look easy, so I tried and success. You rock April!
Thanks. This is exactly what I need. I use the ladder twice a year. Moving my workbench to get the ladder, which stays behind the bench, is a major effort.
Great video April. Just hung my 8 foot ladder, but it took me two tries because after measuring, I thought it would clear the garage door. Nope, so had to change plan and install beyond the door. One thing, if I may suggest is to offset the rod holes and the L-brackets. I found my drill hit the roller and impeded the drill and driver from being perpendicular, so I offset the rod hole 1/2" from center and the L-bracket 1/2" from center in the opposite direction. Works perfectly. Thanks
you may not come back around to see this, but if you mess with pvc much, get a ratcheting cutter (like plumbers use) to make quick work of cuts vs using hack saw. very good channel and you are learning exponentially it appears. also, congrats to a fellow UTA alum. my son and I both are grads!
While watching another video April made I commented on getting the ladder down. I enjoyed this video and hope April will make more that can help people with small task that are very useful.
Awesome idea, thanks for posting this! I was able to make this completely with stuff laying around and get my extension ladder out of the way. Used reclaimed pallet wood, a dowel from a remodelled closet and a similar hook I've had around for years. Next up, the wife and I are going to try the fence board clock for above the fireplace but with pallet wood and I have a clock mechanism ready to go! Thanks again, we're looking forward to the next one!
Absolutely love this idea! I have a couple ladders I have wandering where to store as I no longer have wall space in the work shop. Thank you for you great idea!
This is a great idea. I put up both an 8' step ladder and a 12' extension ladder in my garage. It is nice to have them stored inside and out of the way. Thanks for posting this and the write-up on your blog.
It's something that I wouldn't have thought of. I have an 8ft ladder/6ft ladder that I need to place out of the way. It's something I'm fixing to remedy! Thanks for the video. Truly enjoyed it.
April, I like your style. You have a nice delivery. The optional detailed information is perfect! I have a similar, more primitive system to hang my canoe in my garage. Next time I'd do it your way. Don't stop.
Good one April... If you don't mind my adding...rather than using a stool, use an approximate 4' piece of old broom handle with a 1/4' threaded rod about 3 to 4 inches long bolted onto the handle and bent hook style so as to catch the ladder and then push it up into place... That's what i had to do after my stroke to get things up and down....worked great till I had to stop...
Snazzy project, the ceiling was lonely and feeling dejected, unused even. And you came along and made it feel important and appreciated. Now you're ceiling loves you. Lol Have a great day, David
Thank you April, I had my 10' and my 8' ladders on my wall in my shop/garage this was perfect. I did mine a little different, I am renting this house and my garage is unfinished so I cut mine to Mortis over the ceiling stud and put screws thru both sides and it worked great. Thanks again I really get a lot of great ideas from your ideas!
After watching the first time I was able to find scrap materials around and came up with my own version. I finished it today except for painting it. I'll send you pictures when I can so thanks for the great info and inspiration thanks so much it was fun making it the best thing was it only cost me time didn't have to buy anything ....yea !!!!!!!
April, I saw your video when you first posted it. I just made the ladder update to my shop. Off the floor and out of the way. Thank you for the solution where to put the extension ladder. Jared English
Hi April, thanks for sharing your proyects, I'm jose di maio i'm whatching it from venezuela, I will start showing mi videos as soon as I end renovation and expantions of mi home and as soon as i get mi workshop ready, thank for your ideas thouse are pretty much usefull and practical
After spending some time trying to figure out a good way to hang my ladders in the garage I thought to look on RUclips. Thanks for sharing April ! You Rock !
I was wondering where to get that hook. Glad you put that information in your blog! Right now, my ladder is sitting out in the yard. Hubby's building the chicken run. He's been building it since 2013....3 years and ticking. Not much action on that project. In fact, there goes a tumbleweed.
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I have a long extension ladder taking up a LOT of space on my wall and another to put with it, but wasn't looking forward to sucking up that much space. Such a SIMPLE idea, I can't believe I hadn't thought of it.
Hi I'm a web and graphic designer and a painter..its almost 3 months now since I began watching woodworking videos (actually I being addicted) specially yours..and now I realized that if the time comes that I am no longer in the IT industry I want to be a woodworker. I actually bought some serious tools like circular saw, router and electric sander, also some clamps..still need to buy some chisels and additional clamps.. I am planning to make our own dining table and bunked bed for the kids..I know I can do it...hopefully.. lol hope you can give some tips about it.. :) ..I really like your videos ...and..............................................................you're pretty too :)
Thanks for the idea! Did this last night and am able to use my old wall-mounted ladder brackets for a lumber rack now! Better yet, the ladder is now above the garage door (with about 3/4" clearance! Totally overlooked free storage space!)
Another great vid. Keep it up. I did this this some years ago (with my old wooded extension ladder with round rungs) and found later it had one unintended benefit. Using the rungs and a bunch of metal coat hangers (bent to suit) it makes a great, always ready, drying rack for hanging painted or stained parts.
I made something very similar to this myself but I used two bike hooks on the top of the ladder and and bungee cord and some angle on the other end. I like your idea much better!!! It seems like a much "more positive catch" for the ladder. Great project!!! You have some awesome ideas!!! Love 'em!!! I forgot to say that I mounted mine above the garage door. It was just wasted space before, now it's my ladder storage. I think I'm going to change mine out for your design!!!
Thanks April! I was going to mount both of my ladders horizontally low on the wall beneath my shelves. But that's still valuable walls space! This is a great idea and I'll be borrowing it for my garage!
Thank for the tip. I took your idea and modified it a bit to use 16 gauge perforated steel instead of wood. I figure if it's good enough for keeping the garage door up then it's plenty good enough for holding my 80 lb ladder
I like this, especially the PVC part. Also, it reminds me that I have a few annoying things around my shop that ALWAYS seem to be in the way. I think I'll find ways to store them like this. Thanks! ;)
I figured ity was only a matter of time before you remodeled the ceiling. Good job April, reclaiming space that was only of use to spiders and other bugs, well done.
I liked this idea. Cool. I think this is good if in the basement but not in the garage (9-11 feet ceiling). I ended up hanging my ladder with a simple hook I built for my ladder. Again. Awesome idea. I think I am going to use this idea for other things.
Good job ! HINT: If you pre-paint the wood with white paint it will blend in better with the pipe and ceiling surfaces and give you a more "finished" appearance 🙂
great idea! I use my ladders twice a year -- maybe... so they hang on the side of the shed. but I think it's a great idea and a great use of space if you store your ladders inside.
My rafters weren't laid out where I could screw into them and have my ladder where I wanted it. So, I used toggle bolt anchors into the ceiling drywall. It works, but I wouldn't recommend it since the drywall seam tape starts to show through the ceiling from the small vibrations to the drywall when taking it down and putting it back up again. If that matters to you. Since it's the garage and not my house, I didn't care if the drywall seams showed through somewhat.
Love that little roller, so simple and you made me laugh out loud when you forgot to put the conduit on - I wish I had a quid for everytime I've done something similar. I do wish you'd wear ear protection though, I worry for you.

Fantastic! Glad you found it useful. Thanks for Sharing and for watching.
Thank you so much for your videos. In the last two days, I've hung my ladders on the ceiling and built a fold up workbench! All worked out very well.
See, even years go by and people still find your video usefully, thanks
Thanks. This is exactly what I need. I use the ladder twice a year. Moving my workbench to get the ladder, which stays behind the bench, is a major effort.

: D Hey that's awesome! I'm glad it was helpful. I hope y'all have fun building the clock.

Awesome! I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video April. I just used your approach to hang a 12' A-Frame ladder in my garage. Saved me a ton of wall space!
It's something that I wouldn't have thought of. I have an 8ft ladder/6ft ladder that I need to place out of the way. It's something I'm fixing to remedy! Thanks for the video. Truly enjoyed it.
April,Congratulations, your idea to take advantage of every space in your garage , witty and simple.

: ) Thank you for the feedback and encouragement Robert. I appreciate it.
i'm telling my daughter about you. you are so good at what you do! thanks for the video
Perfect- Simple and efficient. Love it! Especially that you used only need one hook to more than adequately hold the end rung of the ladder .
Glad it was helpful!
great idea .. simple execution again ..
also love the way you show our mistakes .. keeps it real
Good one April...

ok, this is WAY better than the other tut i saw, which was similar. i like how you have it simplified with only the one hook at the end. *doing this!*
Snazzy project, the ceiling was lonely and feeling dejected, unused even. And you came along and made it feel important and appreciated. Now you're ceiling loves you. Lol Have a great day, David

I was looking for a good way to get my 10' step ladder stored up high. This is PERFECT. I'll be knocking this one out this week! Thanks!
Great idea April. Projects like these are my favorite type to watch, "real" and necessary stuff!
After watching the first time I was able to find scrap materials around and came up with my own version. I finished it today except for painting it. Best ladder hanging idea I've found on RUclips. Thanks for sharing

Hello! Sou Brasileiro watch all your videos , Congratulations on the professionalism and creativity.

April, thanks for posting your video. I made one unit for my 8' ladder and will make another for my 6' ladder.
this is a great idea. i have a 10 footer that I only need sometimes yet it takes up a bunch of space . perfect solution
How simple an easy is this. Wish I'd seen this years ago. thanks
Great Job April. It was either hang it on the wall or do it your way, I prefer the latter, lol.
Nick Ferry I prefer the ladder
Great idea! Straight forward rolling mechanism on the one side. Thanks for sharing.
Very easy solution that is what we call. Solucion rapida. Thank you for your ideas. God bless from Nicaragua.
Sweet project. I keep lumber on the ceiling the same way. The hook instead of a second roller is a great thought
Excellent solution.Out of the box thinking. Thanks!
I like this, especially the PVC part. Also, it reminds me that I have a few annoying things around my shop that ALWAYS seem to be in the way. I think I'll find ways to store them like this. Thanks! ;)
Nicely done April. It's a very cool solution.
Easy, cheap, useful. Absolutely love it!
We love this idea. We are going to do this in our new shop/shed. Thanks.
I like it. Think I'll go out in my garage right now and do this with my ladder. Thanks.
Cool way to store ladders and such. Thanks for sharing.
Отличная работа, April ! Хорошо бы еще добавить какой -то фиксатор, чтобы лестница не упала, если ее случайно зацепить :)
I figured ity was only a matter of time before you remodeled the ceiling. Good job April, reclaiming space that was only of use to spiders and other bugs, well done.
Keep up the great work! I appreciate the time you have put in to making these videos!

Glad you like it!
Good job ! HINT: If you pre-paint the wood with white paint it will blend in better with the pipe and ceiling surfaces and give you a more "finished" appearance 🙂
Yes great idea
As an older lady now I like the roller mechanism w the PVC alot smooth movement
Another well done project and video.
It worked really good for my shop, thank you April!!!!
Great tip, thanks April. Keep'm coming.
I really like the use of the pvc pipe. Definately going to save this video for a home improvement project
Glad it was helpful!
I built 2 of these today. Great video. Thank you
Thanks April. I just set this up in my garage, great space saver! Love your videos; keep 'em coming!
great idea! I use my ladders twice a year -- maybe... so they hang on the side of the shed. but I think it's a great idea and a great use of space if you store your ladders inside.
I like it. So simple yet very functional.
Nice work April fantastic idea...
Just today I was wondering how to store my 4 ladders. Then your idea popped up !! Thank you !!!
ingenious! Love the rolling mechanism.
Simple and Clever! Love it! Thanks!
A very smart idea for my own ladder, thanks for share your ideas April!!! Keep going!!
Very nice. Now I know where to put my ladders. Thank you.
Brilliant video! Great idea!!
That is a really good idea and video! Thank you!
Love it 😍, I have the exact ladder and problem , you where my first hit , problem solved , 🙏 thanks
Not bad. Pretty cool way to hang it. I thought I was clever until trying to hang my ladder and having hooks not line up easy. This is perfect!
Nice. Just what I needed. Thanks
Great idea and build. Thanks for sharing.
Nice! I keep meaning to do this.. thanks for the reminder!
I just built my wood rack and need to do this with a long ladder I hardly ever use :-)
Good job. Wow a two shop house... that rocks,
Super smart solution!
Great idea April. Thanks
Love this! Thanks. This worked out well for my 10’ft ladder
Great idea. Love the project. I have to be honest, I didn't notice you left the pvc off either.
Awesome idea. Now i need to find other things to store this way. Thanks
Oh that's so brilliant and cost effective! Thank you!!!
Well done just what I was looking for!
Very good work!
Love that little roller, so simple and you made me laugh out loud when you forgot to put the conduit on - I wish I had a quid for everytime I've done something similar.
I do wish you'd wear ear protection though, I worry for you.
very nice and simple solution.
Excellent idea! Many thanks!
Made this, this weekend - Perfect Solution
Smart Idea...good video....keep it up
Very nice work. I liked idea
Thanks so much for the idea. Now im not tripping over my ladder anymore.
