- NEW HEAVY RECOVERY TRUCK WITH AMERICAN TWIST!
----------------------
Welcome to Heavy Recovery with Steve!
I'm Steve - a Heavy Vehicle Recovery Driver from the South of England. I've been involved in recovery all my life, from a young age working in a family-owned car recovery business and acquiring the licences necessary to operate some of the largest vehicles on the road, to eventually working for some of the largest recovery firms in the UK.
I've set up this channel to provide insights into the world of recovery and whether you're here with the intent to step into the world of recovery or just interested in seeing the action - I hope you find thoroughly enjoy the videos!
During 2022 - my channel will provide content on the following, so feel free to subscribe if this is of interest you!
- How to start a career in Heavy Vehicle Recovery for the newcomers looking to take the plunge
- POV style videos of recovering Heavy Good Vehicles (HGVs) out in the UK roads
- Walkaround style videos of the largest heavy recovery vehicles in the UK
Drone footage in Intro from Marian Croitoru.
Note - these are not training videos. Авто/Мото
I thought you'd be unveiling a Peterbilt or something, but good to see it's another DAF - it looks fantastic with the American bodywork! Looking forward to future videos.
Glad you enjoyed it
American trucks would be too big for jobs here in Europe. Specially in tight spots in cities etc
@@adeksadeksinski681 NY Recovery and Mick Gould Commercials in the South East of England run Peterbilt and Kenworth wreckers.
This was in front of me a few weeks ago, around Heathrow. It had no sign writing on it. Very bright blue distinctive paint work at the rear.
Hi thanks for watching , probably same truck before sign writing was applied, we had it a couple of weeks before its gone into full service.
STUNNING...Worked for Warfield Garage "Bracknell Berkshire" as a heavy recovery tech "Driver" back in the 80's 90's cant say i miss it, its a young mans job..lol
Hi thanks for watching, yes i remember them yellow trucks of Warfields, yes young mans game being on call 24/7.
I always found a new truck to be a mixed blessing, until you get things the way you like them, hope you enjoy it!
Hi Kevin , yes you wright ,keep going to wrong lockers all the time lol.
Hey steve, I like your videos - thanks for bringing us along for the experience
Glad you like them!
Nice wrecker there Steve. Looking forward to future vlogs with it in
Thanks for commenting , yes hope find something interesting to film.
Congrats on the new wheels. I'm very much looking forward to more videos. You do such a great job, both as a recovery operator and a videographer.
Thanks very much for comments Linda.
Great to see a Miller body here in the UK. Would love to see a 50T rotator like Hulk (Pepe’s Towing) on UK roads 😎 Forgot to say, I drove past you on the A3 about 2 weeks ago, you were going Southbound, it was great to see the ‘old’ truck albeit for a few seconds!
Hi Jonny thanks for watching, i am based in Surrey area so you see me about that area.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Same, I'm in Farnham. Hopefully see you out and about again! 😎👊🏻
Hi Steve good luck with your new truck. There is also storage boxes at the rear near the break lights which could be used for the common used forks
Hi Stu thanks for watching , we got some extra forks on order which should of come with the truck , i probably store the ones i use most in there mate as you say.
8:15 you also have the chain ratings on the back of the door there for when the tags inevitably come off
Thanks for letting me that , swapped over and been flat out on jobs since not had much time to explore.
Nice looking forward to seeing your first vlog with this new truck.
Thanks for watching , recovered unit and trailer with it last night hope comes out ok on film.
Hi Steve - nice new truck! Seems those locker handles are a bit easier to use than those on your old truck. Enjoy your little piece of America!
Hi Ricky , yes locker handles come with led lights in handle, must say well made body from the US.
11:02 looks like your flipping us off lmao
Best of luck Steve with your fabulous new truck, really well made and kitted out👍🇮🇪
Thanks very much, well pleased with it, thanks for watching.
Brilliant thanks
Hi Eliot, glad you liked it.
Wow congrats on your new truck!! Looking fresh 👍🏼
Yes! Thank you!
Congrats on the new truck!
I’m really glad that we get to see a unique type of video. But Anyways great video Steve!
Thanks for watching.
Well done Steve, well deserved. Its always strange finding places for your tools and kit we carry, takes some getting used to but we'll worth it.
Hi Michael ,thanks for watching.
Nice new truck Steve. It'll take a bit of used to going to the new lockers for things. It looks like it has less locker space than the old one, but maybe similar space just laid out differently. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching James , yes lockers bit narrow than other truck body, would of liked one big locker to store all tools in same locker.
Hi Steve love the new truck and glad it came with all new goodies and they didn't swap it out for your old ones my HGV course is going well got my medical tomorrow and should be completed by late September once again thanks for taking time out your day to film these videos for us
Hi Jay , thanks for keeping in touch , good luck with HGV test, only quick look around as i was getting familiar with it.
Another great video, appreciated this time it takes to film and edit, 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow Daf comes out nice & strong💪
Hi thanks for watching.
Love the new truck and gd video mate
Hi Tom, glad you liked it , thanks for watching the channel.
That's really nice Steve. And typical Boniface quality by the looks of it. As an owner driver I exclusively ran Volvo FH16s and had them serviced and repaired at Volvo Thetford, a couple of doors along from Boniface. I was always fascinated by what they do, and saw some incredible stuff in their yard.
Nice to see a manual gearbox as well. I did most of my hgv driving with manuals, and despite liking the Volvo I Shift, couldn't really get on with autos other than on a motorway. Manuals offer more feel and control, especially at 90t!
Enjoy! Looking forward to seeing it in action 👍
Thanks for watching Simon, i agree mate , my colleague Pete drives a FH540 doing this work and dont think would go back to manual now. Especially all the London work we doing now.
Nice purchase, really nice! The body looks fantastic and a DAF is always a good choice!! But you said you have 4 speakers in the cab. It’s actual 6. You got the two tweeters at the windows, two midrange in the doors and two bass speakers behind the seats. You’re previous DAF didn’t have thees i think. So you will hear a big step up in sound quality!
Hi thanks for that, yes sounds good to me ,well pleased with truck.
Great video lovely bit of kit.
Glad you like it.
Wow, a Miller body, nice! That looks super familiar of a setup too. Very sweet rig.
Hi Seth , thought you would recognise body probably on Kenworth or Peterbuilt in the states, must say nicely made body.
steve good luck in your new recovery truck will still be looking for you around welwyn garden city be looking for some new videps with a new motor stay safe as allways
Hi Andrew thanks for watching , was not too far away from there the overnight night had a run to Peterborough and came back down A1.
Very smart wagon looking forward to seeing her at work
Hi Jacob thanks for watching, hope get video out this weekend with it.
Really good video Steve. Love the truck. Even though I live in Manchester (up north🤣), I've been watching Ron Pratt, who is also a recovery bloke in the USA. He's very good as well.
Same, I’m down south in Surrey. I found Ron Pratt a few years ago but Pepe’s Towing is also fantastic - check out their RUclips.
Thanks for watching Thomas , i agree about Ron Pratt hes done a lot for the Recovery industry worldwide on RUclips to raise the profile.
Nice new toy, can’t wait to see it in action.
Hi Paul , hopefully got one in bag for next week.
That was me blowing the horn and waving to you just now on Sutton Lane near the A4 at Colnbrook 👋
Hi thanks for tooting, I did wave back.
That's a beautiful new truck you have got there steve from John in kidlington in oxfordshire
Hi John thanks for watching.
I wondered whether the lifting gear came from America because for a few years I watched Ron Pratt of Midwest Trucks. However, he has mainly Peterbuilts and a couple Macks. I don't tend to watch him these days, as I have too much UK stuff to watch. Ron, like you, seems a very nice guy. However, I can't watch everything unfortunately! I have another hobby, which is vintage road vehicles of every type. However, even then, I guess I preferer the 'heavy stuff!'
Thanks very much for watching the channel Richard.
Very NICE
Thanks Tim glad you liked it.
id expect the uprate is on the springs , the differance between 44 and cat 1 is only suspention
Thanks for watching Stu.
cool steve looks mint
Thanks for watching again much appreciated.
Love the new truck Steve, wait no stacks 😭, hopefully alot of lights
Thanks for watching , no stack i am afraid but bit more bling , led lights built into locker handles.
Oooh not bad looking it look abit like Ron Pratt from Midwest trucking set up, he got controls on both sides, don't know how practical that is in UK
Deserved Steve, enjoy :)
Thanks for watching Dave, cheers.
Nice addition Steve,Millar make nice recovery gear, will do you ok.
Thanks for watching Ross , yes Boniface underlift working well.
New subscriber , nice truck.
Welcome Iain thanks for subscribing.
Nice , used to drive an XF with a Boniface trident , is was a good truck . I know you know this but a 25 litre drum is good for your spill dry granules 😉😁
Thanks for that Dave , very pleased with truck so far, getting use to it now thanks for watching
I saw you yesterday central London but checked the reg and thought it’s not you. Now seeing the video with new truck it was you 😎
Hi Adrian , good spot had a 3 axle coach out of Victoria Station to Northampton.
my process,
1. see a Steve video
2. like video
3. watch video
:D
Thanks for watching and glad you like it Adam.
Nice truck Steve, lucky man, wish i had an office like that😀 i bet it will take a while to remember where you have put everything in the lockers?
Hi Gary, thanks for watching, yes could do with labels on locker doors for now lol.
What a spiffing new truck :) The locks on the lockers appear to be a bit in the way, though. Bound to get caught on them when they stick out like that. I am curious about the wheel setup, both on this and the old one. On the continent trucks like these are all 8x4 (we've even had some 10x4 in the past), especially here in Scandinavia where we have lower axle weight limit. Don't think you'd be allowed to tow that much with a 6x2+2 here, although I'm not quite sure if the weight limits are suspended or raised for tow trucks.
Thanks for watching , it does seem a lot to tow with single drive axle 70 tonnes, think at that weight our first choice would be one of our 8x4 trucks.
I like the 2 daf recovery trucks Steve got!👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching , Daf heavies working out well for Steve.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve your welcome they are really good on heavy recovery!👍👍
Very nice
Hi Spencer thanks for watching.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve why do use prefer manual Steve
Hey Steve, like your new Truck and the tour you filmed. what is in the lockers on the back next to the taillights?
Hi Fabien , them small lockers will store extra lifting forks we have on order that should of come with truck. Be bit easier to grab them closer to rear of truck.
do us a video showing us your lights beacons work lights cabiin lights on your new truck please
videos are great who doesn't love a new truck
Thanks for watching Matthew.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve you’re welcome
Nice
Hi James thanks for commenting cheers.
What’s the different between bodywork in US and UK? It still will be built according to customer specific. Isn’t it.
Hi Eduard , Millers body came as standard from US to fit a variety of chassis. The Uk built body fitted to my old Daf was wider to fit maybe to fitted on more European trucks we have over here.
Were you towing a winnebago type motorhome north bound (possibly A34) on monday? Looked like this beast 👌
Hi Andy thanks for watching , was on A34 Tuesday but was recovering a truck loaded with steel.
Would love to see a video with Trucker Tim!
Hi Callum i have seen Trucker Tim on RUclips hes doing well ,good luck to him seems genuine bloke.
Nice, how many trucks does R&S have? I saw one of your vans not long ago.
Hi Faisal , company run a varied fleet of specialist recovery trucks not sure exact number must be over 30.
steve, i’ve watched all of your videos of the course of a couple weeks and they’ve inspired me to want to do my hgv licence. do you need your class 1 to do recovery? or do you just need a class 2
I’ve been looking for this also and can’t seem to find a definite answer, would also like to hear from Steve about this
Now the test has changed, if doing your test you will be better going straight to the class 1 to avoid paying for two tests.
If you want to do heavy recovery you need a class 1 as you become articulated for light car and commercial recovery you can do it on a class 2 as you would be driving a ridged slide bed
hey steve is there a reason why you don't use safety chains
Hi Logan thanks for watching, never used break away chains before as they dont normally come with UK Recovery Trucks as standard as we not require to use them in UK.
What a beast. Was you on the m1 yesterday heading northbound?
Hi Stuart , yes spotted twice yesterday lol , yes had 3 axle coach on from Victoria Station to Northampton.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve gutted I spotted you last minute 😢 always the way eh lol 😆
Steve did you get your second half shaft holder?
Hi Gary , unfortunately not mate , Millers made it take it standard spec body they manufacturer in US.
Frankly that is an Europeanized U.S body, mainly to pair it with the COE style truck. Tho the style is definitely Miller for sure.
Thanks for watching.
Any new light bars etc fitted?
Hi Simon , got few extras added 3 Kelsa bars , Air horns, mirror guards, and Dura-Bright alloy wheels.
Are you keeping the old daf recovery truck with the new daf recovery truck? It would be cool to see you on recovery with the old daf and new daf!👍👍👍
Thanks for watching , just be good to compare them side by side.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve your welcome it would be good to see the difference.
Steve, why the new truck? The last one also looked excellent!
Hi Colin thanks for watching, company growing taken on new driver for my old truck now , had to latest Euro 6 spec for London ULEZ .
I am at RAF FAIRFORD for the RIAT 2022 AIR SHOW
Hope you had a good day Dave.
Be awesome if.was.roller shutter doors? On some of them
Hi Simon , did have roller shutter on last truck which was handy in tight spaces, but was very stiff to use.
Are you an owner operator, or part of a larger fleet?
Hi thanks for watching , i am employed by R & S Recovery its there truck i drive and operate.
Looking very smart for DAF
Thanks very much Dave.
steve how many trucks u have in your fleet ????
Think company must have over 30 trucks now.
👍👍👍👍👍
That red bus at the start behind the truck looks like the bus that I had to get to school before I finished but I'm from Oxfordshire close to wantage so I don't know if it is
Hi thanks for watching, sorry dont know history of Bus.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve not to worry it just looked spot on as the one I got
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve it stays at a yard in Oxford if that is where this was filmed then it would be that I'm pretty sure but don't know if you can find out that would be great or even part of the number plate for it I could figure it out if not then it's fine anyway great videos
Where is your toe light bar
Hi Paul , got 2 light boards on truck, 1 cordless and other cable as back up. Thanks for watching.
Your Company Steve?
Thanks for watching , not my company i just work for them.
If it is a US body, was it 90 tons or tonnes, because 90 tons is 81.6 tonnes.
Hi Richard thanks for watching , truck got 90 000 kg gross train weight and weights in now 19 750 kg now.
Cheers, Steve. The first video I saw was the towing 60 tonnes episode. Hats off to you. You show such skill and patience.
Looks really nice BUT it's still a DAF.... The irony is you will need a recovery truck at the ready to come and recover this one... Luke C in a HGV always breaking down for example! I don't know why people don't get something half decent like a Volvo or Mercedes if a Scania is out of reach.
Hi Rich , honestly had very little problems with Daf trucks doing heavy recovery work, this is my 4th one now, thanks for watching.
Isn’t Boniface owned by Miller?
Hi Joe , think Boniface just sell there products mate.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve I know Century and Vulcan are owned by them and they are their own manufacturer as well. Do you guys get Jerr-Dans?
Check this out - I’ll be getting a walk-around on this truck in a few short weeks time!
ruclips.net/video/BtV6pmcr1yc/видео.html
Miller bought Boniface in 1996. I believe all heavy wreckers and rotators sold by Boniface now have bodies built by Miller at their Tennessee plant. The underlifts for both the rotators and wreckers are built by Boniface, not Miller.

Thanks for watching again, God Bless.
